BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a piezoelectric device such as a piezoelectric vibrator, a piezoelectric oscillator, or a SAW device used in an electronic apparatus, and more particularly to a package structure that supports a piezoelectric vibrating piece in a cantilever manner.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in various electronic devices such as OA equipment such as information communication equipment and computers, consumer equipment, etc., a piezoelectric vibrator as a clock source of an electronic circuit, a piezoelectric vibrator and an IC chip are sealed in the same package. Piezoelectric devices such as oscillators and real-time clock modules are widely used. Particularly recently, along with the miniaturization and thinning of these electronic devices, there has been a demand for further miniaturization and thinning of piezoelectric devices, and surface-mount type piezoelectric devices suitable for mounting on circuit boards of apparatuses have been developed. Many have been adopted.
[0003]
FIG. 4 shows a typical example of a conventional surface-mount type piezoelectric vibrator having an AT-cut
[0004]
In such a package structure that supports the piezoelectric vibrating piece in a cantilever manner, when an impact such as a drop is applied to the piezoelectric vibrator, the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece shakes greatly and collides with the inner surface of the package, causing chipping or cracking. There is a risk of causing damage. Therefore, in the vicinity of the free end of the
[0005]
Similarly, in order to improve the impact resistance, for example, in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-354228, one end of a piezoelectric vibrating piece is fixed to one of two steps opposed to the bottom surface inside a package, and the other end is connected to the other end. A structure of a piezoelectric vibrator is disclosed in which the distance between the upper surface of the piezoelectric vibrating piece and the inner surface of the lid is reduced to a certain value or less by being fixedly supported in a cantilevered manner slightly apart from the step. Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 10-23882 discloses that a piezoelectric vibrating piece is supported in a cantilever manner on the bottom surface inside the package having an inclined surface, and a slight gap is formed between the rising side of the inclined surface and the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece. The structure which was made to separate by is described.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the piezoelectric device that supports the piezoelectric vibrating piece in a cantilever manner as described above has recently been reduced in size in addition to the damage of the piezoelectric vibrating piece due to an impact such as a drop. There is a risk of causing resonance with mechanical vibration that occurs during use by another device mounted on the same electronic device, such as a mounted vibrator or speaker. In such a case, there is a high possibility that the free end portion of the piezoelectric vibrating piece comes into contact with the inner surface of the package, which may cause deterioration in frequency characteristics.
[0007]
On the other hand, in a piezoelectric device in which the gap between the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece and the inner surface of the package is reduced by a conventional metal pillow part or a step or inclined surface inside the package, the collision with the inner surface of the package due to resonance is sufficient. It cannot be absorbed. In particular, in order to reduce the size and thickness of the piezoelectric device, it is difficult to provide a sufficient gap that does not collide with the inner surface of the package even when the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece swings up and down.
[0008]
Also, as the gap between the piezoelectric vibrating piece and the inner surface of the package becomes smaller as the piezoelectric device becomes smaller and thinner, it is fixed with a conductive adhesive while the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece is in contact with the inner surface of the package. For this reason, there is a problem in that the frequency of the piezoelectric vibrator varies and the frequency characteristics are adversely affected.
[0009]
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide excellent impact resistance against dropping, vibration, etc. while responding to the demand for further miniaturization and thinning in a piezoelectric device in which a piezoelectric vibrating piece is supported in a cantilever manner in a package. It is to realize sex.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the present invention, in order to achieve the above object, a package and a piezoelectric vibrating piece mounted in a cantilever manner inside the package at one end thereof, the piezoelectric vibrating piece is disposed at the other end. There is provided a piezoelectric device having an elastic buffer in the portion.
[0011]
With this configuration, the gap between the other end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece, that is, the free end, and the inner surface of the package is reduced, so that the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece is shaken by an impact or vibration acting on the package from the outside. Or the vibration amplitude when vibrating. For this reason, the impact when the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece collides with the inner surface of the package can be reduced, and the impact can be absorbed by the elastic buffer, greatly improving the impact resistance of the piezoelectric device. To do.
[0012]
In addition, when the piezoelectric vibrating reed is mounted on the package, even if the elastic buffer is fixed in contact with the inner surface of the package, since the influence on the frequency characteristics is small, high performance stability and reliability can be obtained.
[0013]
In one embodiment, the package has a pillow portion in a region corresponding to the other end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece on the mounting surface of the piezoelectric vibrating piece, so that the other end or free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece is provided. And the inner surface of the package can be made smaller, and the deflection width can be made smaller, which is preferable.
[0014]
The elastic buffer is made of a resin adhesive that has elasticity after curing, and is attached to the other end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece and cured, making it relatively simple and inexpensive using conventional manufacturing processes. can do.
[0015]
The piezoelectric vibrating piece is preferably a piezoelectric vibrating piece having a thickness-shear mode as the main vibration, and in this case, the elastic buffer is preferably disposed in a portion where the excitation electrode of the piezoelectric vibrating piece is not provided.
Further, the thick electric vibrating piece is preferably a surface acoustic wave vibrating piece, and in that case, the elastic buffer is preferably disposed in a portion of the surface acoustic wave vibrating piece where the electrode film is not provided.
[0016]
According to the present invention, the piezoelectric device may further include an IC element mounted inside the package.

For example, the present invention can be similarly applied to a vibrating piece made of various piezoelectric materials such as lithium tantalate and lithium niobate other than quartz and a piezoelectric device having a surface acoustic wave vibrating piece.
[0030]
【The invention's effect】
As is apparent from the above description, according to the piezoelectric device of the present invention, the elastic buffer provided at the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece reduces the gap between the package inner surface and the free end of the piezoelectric vibrating piece. The width is reduced, the impact when it collides with the inner surface of the package is small, and it can be absorbed by an elastic buffer, greatly reducing the impact and resistance to external shocks and vibrations while supporting downsizing and thinning. A high quality piezoelectric device having high reliability and stability can be realized.
