BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This inventionAcousto-optic device, light beam scanning apparatus, and acousto-optic device attitude adjustment methodIn particular, an acoustooptic device such as an acoustooptic modulator (AOM) or an acoustooptic deflector (AOD) that utilizes an acoustooptic effect.Acousto-optic equipment including,thisAcousto-optic equipmentUsed for image recording and image readingAnd attitude adjustment method of acoustooptic deviceAbout.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A conventional AOD that is a kind of acoustooptic device using anisotropic Bragg diffraction generated between an ultrasonic wave traveling in an anisotropic crystal and a light wave traveling in an anisotropic crystal is tellurium dioxide as an acoustooptic medium. (TeO2) TeO2TeO is generated by transverse wave ultrasonic waves traveling in the [110] direction of the crystal and displaced in the [1′10] (where 1 ′ means −1 direction) direction.2The light wave incident on the crystal is diffracted (on [110] type deflector). This TeO2AOD using crystals can provide a large acoustooptic figure of merit and high diffraction efficiency compared to AOD using lithium niobate or quartz as the acoustooptic medium.
[0003]
However, flat diffraction efficiency cannot be obtained over a wide frequency band, and the efficiency drops near the center frequency, so that there is a problem that the used frequency band is limited. In addition, circularly polarized light is necessary to obtain high diffraction efficiency, and it is necessary to insert a λ / 4 plate into the optical path of linearly polarized laser light to convert it into circularly polarized light, which is expensive. was there.
[0004]
As an AOD that solves the above problems, an off- [110] type deflector in which the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves is greatly inclined from the [110] direction of the crystal is known (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 51-99039). According to this off [110] type deflector, the drop in efficiency near the center frequency, which was a problem of the above on [110] type deflector, is eliminated, and the incident laser light may be linearly polarized light, A λ / 4 plate becomes unnecessary.
[0005]
Conventionally, the diffraction efficiency is increased by adjusting only the Bragg angle so that the Bragg condition is satisfied in a plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and is orthogonal to the traveling direction of the incident light. Although the adjustment for translating the AOD in the direction in which the AOD is performed is made, the adjustment for rotating the other AOD is not made.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the conventional off [110] deflector has a problem in that it requires a large crystal to increase the cost because the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave needs to be greatly inclined from the [110] direction.
[0007]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and is a low-cost acousto-optic device that uses linearly polarized light and can obtain high diffraction efficiency over a wide frequency band.machine,This acousto-opticmachineLight beam scanning device usingAnd attitude adjustment method of acoustooptic deviceThe purpose is to provide.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
To achieve the above objective,An acousto-optic device according to
[0009]
The present inventionWhen anisotropic Bragg diffraction is availableboth,The optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the polarization plane of the incident light is the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. Not parallel to the plane containingThe conditionsAn acousto-optic element is arranged so as to satisfy.
[0010]
The optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the polarization plane of the incident light is the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. The optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave.
[0011]
On the other hand, as in the present invention,The optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the polarization plane of the incident light is the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. The optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the incident light is arranged so as not to be parallel to the plane including the incident light. The polarization plane is inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to a plane including the traveling direction of incident light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves.
[0012]
To arrange the acoustooptic device as described above, the incident light may be fixed to adjust the attitude of the acoustooptic device, or the acoustooptic device may be fixed to adjust the traveling direction of the incident light. Alternatively, both the attitude of the acoustooptic device and the traveling direction of the incident light may be adjusted.
[0013]
The inventors adjust the attitude of the acoustooptic device in a direction other than the Bragg angle that has not been adjusted conventionally, and the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal includes the traveling direction of incident light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves. It has been found by experiments that the diffraction efficiency increases when the acoustooptic element is arranged so as not to be parallel to the surface, and the present invention has been conceived.
[0014]
By disposing the acoustooptic device as described above, it is possible to increase the diffraction efficiency compared to the prior art using linearly polarized light without increasing the anisotropic crystal.
[0015]
The acoustooptic device is arranged so that the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of incident light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves. And differentThe optical axis of the isotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the polarization plane of the incident light determines the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. Not parallel to the containing surfaceThe condition may be satisfied.

The acoustooptic device according to
[0017]
That is, when the initial state is the state in which the [110] direction of the anisotropic crystal and the x-axis are parallel and the [001] direction coincides with the z-axis, the initial crystal is rotated around the axis in the [110] direction. Or rotated about both the axis in the [110] direction and the z axis and rotated by a predetermined angle around an axis perpendicular to the plane including the z axis and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. .
[0018]
From the initial state, the angle around the axis perpendicular to the plane including the z axis and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave is the first predetermined angle, the angle around the axis in the [110] direction is the second predetermined angle, and the angle around the z axis. When the first predetermined angle and the second predetermined angle are adjusted when the angle is the third predetermined angle, the first predetermined angle is a Bragg angle (for example, approximately 4 °), and the second predetermined angle. Can be set to approximately 3 ° or more, preferably approximately 9 °. When these angles are set within this range, the diffraction efficiency can be set to a preferable value.
[0019]
When adjusting the first to third predetermined angles together, the first predetermined angle is a Bragg angle (for example, approximately 4 °), the second predetermined angle is approximately 3 ° or more, and a third predetermined angle. The angle can be about 30 ° to about 90 °, and when these angles are set within this range, the diffraction efficiency can be set to a preferable value. Further, the first predetermined angle is a Bragg angle (for example, approximately 4 °), the second predetermined angle is approximately 5 ° to approximately 10 °, and the third predetermined angle is approximately 30 ° to approximately 90 °, preferably The predetermined angle of 1 is a Bragg angle (for example, approximately 4 °), the second predetermined angle is approximately 7 ° to approximately 10 °, the third predetermined angle is approximately 45 ° to approximately 90 °, more preferably the first The predetermined angle may be a Bragg angle (for example, approximately 4 °), the second predetermined angle may be approximately 9 ° to approximately 10 °, and the third predetermined angle may be approximately 70 ° to approximately 75 °. When the first to third predetermined angles are adjusted to the above preferable values, the highest and flat diffraction efficiency can be obtained over a wide frequency band.
[0020]
As the anisotropic crystal, a uniaxial crystal or a biaxial crystal can be used.2The acoustooptic device of the present invention is preferably an acoustooptic deflector. The acousto-optic device described above can be applied to an image recording apparatus that records an image by scanning a light beam, or a light beam scanning apparatus of an image reading apparatus that scans an optical beam and reads an image.
The light beam scanning apparatus according to
[0021]
According to a tenth aspect of the present invention, there is provided an acoustooptic device attitude adjusting method that uses an anisotropic Bragg diffraction generated between an ultrasonic wave traveling in an anisotropic crystal and a light wave traveling in the anisotropic crystal. In the attitude adjustment method, the acoustooptic device is rotated about an axis in the same direction as the traveling direction of incident light, and is rotated about an axis in the same direction as the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, thereby When incident light is incident, the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, and the polarization plane of the incident light is the traveling direction of the incident light. The posture of the acoustooptic device is adjusted so as to satisfy a condition that the direction is not parallel to the plane including the direction and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. First, the present invention is TeO2A case where the present invention is applied to an on [110] deflector (AOD) using a single crystal will be described. As shown in FIG. 1, this AOD has TeO whose head is cut obliquely.2
[0023]
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the z-axis coincides with the traveling direction of the incident light, the x-axis coincides with the polarization direction of the incident light, and the y-axis is determined by the right hand system from the z-axis and the x-axis. Define the xyz coordinate system.
[0024]
In addition, as shown in FIG.2The initial state is a state in which the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave traveling in the
[0025]
Bragg angle θBIs rotation of the AOD in a plane including the traveling direction (z-axis) of the incident light and the ultrasonic traveling direction, that is, rotation about the axis B perpendicular to the plane formed by the z-axis and the ultrasonic traveling direction. It is. This Bragg angle θBIs positive when rotated from the positive side of the z-axis in the positive direction of the ultrasonic traveling direction, that is, when rotated in the right-handed direction toward the positive direction of the axis B, and the ultrasonic traveling direction is changed to the z-axis. Θ for verticalB= 0.
[0026]
Tilt angle θA Is rotation about the axis in the ultrasonic traveling direction, that is, rotation about the axis A in the [110] direction. This tilt angle θA Is positive when rotated in the direction of the right-handed screw toward the ultrasonic traveling direction, and the optical axis [001] of the crystal indicates the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave.Including planeWhen parallel to θA = 0.
[0027]
Rotation angle θ around the axis of incident light traveling directionZIs rotation around the z-axis, and is positive when rotated in the right-handed direction toward the positive direction in the z-axis direction, and the ultrasonic wave traveling direction is parallel to the x-axis (the incident light polarization plane is incident When parallel to a plane including the traveling direction of light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves), θZ= 0.
[0028]
A high-frequency signal having a power of 0.25 W is applied to the
[0029]
The same rotation angle θZTilt angle θAIt has been confirmed by the present inventors that two characteristics can be obtained by adjusting the above, and FIG. 4 is a case where the shape of the frequency characteristic of the diffraction efficiency is flat (the diffraction efficiency is substantially constant regardless of the frequency). However, FIG. 6 shows a case where the shape of the frequency characteristic of the diffraction efficiency is a peak shape (the diffraction efficiency is high at the center frequency and low at the periphery).
[0030]
As can be seen from FIG. 3, the Bragg angle θBOnly when (θB≒ 4 °, θZ= ΘA= 0 °) compared to the diffraction efficiency (approximately 58% at 80 MHz), the Bragg angle θBAnd tilt angle θAThe diffraction efficiency is improved by adjusting both the angles. In particular, θAThe diffraction efficiency η is η≈95% at ≈ ± 9 °. And θA≒ ± 6 ° ~ ± 9 °, the diffraction efficiency η will be η ≒ 80 ~ 95%, θA≈ ± 4 ° to ± 9 °, the diffraction efficiency η is η≈70 to 95%. When the diffraction efficiency η is higher than the conventional diffraction efficiency by about 10% or more, the tilt angle θAShould be approximately 3 ° or more.
[0031]
Also, as can be seen from FIG. 4, the Bragg angle θ is compared with the diffraction efficiency when adjusted as in the prior art.BAnd the rotation angle θ about the axis of the incident light traveling directionZAnd tilt angle θAThe diffraction efficiency is improved by adjusting in the positive or negative direction. In particular, θZ≒ ± (70 ° ~ 75 °), θA≈ ± (9 ° to 10 °), and the diffraction efficiency η is η≈95%. And θZ≒ ± (45 ° ~ 90 °), θA≈ ± (7 ° to 10 °), the diffraction efficiency η becomes η≈80 to 95%, θZ≒ ± (30 ° ~ 90 °), θAThe diffraction efficiency η is η≈70 to 95% at approximately ± (5 ° to 10 °).
[0032]
Above is the Bragg angle θBIs positive, but the Bragg angle θBIs negative (θBThe same applies to the case of ≈−4 °, and the cases where the diffraction efficiency η reaches a peak (about 95%) are summarized in Table 1 below.
[0033]
[Table 1]
[0034]
In addition, the rotation angle θ about the axis of the incident light traveling directionZIs the angle at which the diffraction efficiency obtained from FIG.Z= 70 ° fixed, tilt angle θAFIG. 7 shows the diffraction efficiency characteristics when V is changed.
[0035]
As understood from FIG. 7, the rotation angle θ about the axis of the incident light traveling directionZThe tilt angle θAWhen changing only the tilt angle θAFor example, θABy adjusting to ≒ 1.5 ° or more, the diffraction efficiency can be improved compared to the conventional case, the diffraction efficiency is θA≒ 9 °, about 95%, θA≒ Approximately 80-95% over 4.5 °, θAApprox. 70 to 95% at 3 ° or more.
[0036]
Therefore, the rotation angle θ around the axis of the incident light traveling directionZAnd tilt angle θAWhen adjusting the rotation angle θ around the axis of the incident light traveling direction from the state where the maximum diffraction efficiency is obtainedZTilt angle θAIs changed, the tilt angle θAIs approximately 1.5 ° or more, the diffraction efficiency can be improved compared to the conventional case, and the tilt angle θAIs approximately 3 ° or more, a diffraction efficiency of approximately 70 to 95% is obtained, and the tilt angle θAIs about 4.5 ° or more, a diffraction efficiency of about 80 to 95% can be obtained.
[0037]
The above is the result at the center frequency, but the diffraction efficiency is improved even in a predetermined frequency band. FIG. 8 shows one of the conditions for achieving the peak diffraction efficiency in Table 1, θZ= 70 ° and θA= Frequency characteristics of diffraction efficiency at 9 °, rotation angle θ around the axis of the incident
[0038]
From the above, it is arranged so that anisotropic Bragg diffraction can be used, and the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is arranged not to be parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of incident light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves. Thus, the diffraction efficiency can be improved.
[0039]
That is, the anisotropic Bragg diffraction is arranged so that it can be used, and the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. The polarization plane is made parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave, or the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal determines the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. The diffraction efficiency can be improved by preventing the plane of polarization of incident light from being parallel to the plane including the incident light and the plane including the traveling direction of the incident light and the traveling direction of the ultrasonic wave. it can.
[0040]
In the above, TeO is used as the acousto-optic medium.2An example using a single crystal of PbMoO has been described.FourOther uniaxial crystals and biaxial crystals can also be used. In the above description, AOD has been described. However, the present invention can also be applied to AOM.
[0041]
Next, an embodiment of a cylindrical inner surface scanning type image recording apparatus using the AOD for a light beam scanning apparatus will be described with reference to the drawings. This cylindrical inner surface scanning type image recording apparatus includes a laser beam generating means for generating a plurality of laser beams arranged in parallel in a predetermined direction, a laser beam arranged in the optical path of each laser beam, and the laser beam in a parallel direction of the laser beam. A plurality of deflectors deflecting in an orthogonal direction and a reflecting surface inclined with respect to the central axis of the cylinder, and rotated about the central axis of the cylinder to scan the laser beam along the inner surface of the cylinder The scanning unit and an optical system that causes a plurality of laser beams deflected by the deflector to enter the reflecting surface of the scanning unit.
[0042]
As shown in FIG. 9, the image recording apparatus according to the present embodiment includes a

As described above, the AODs 18x, 20, and 22x are arranged so that the optical axis of the anisotropic crystal is not parallel to the plane including the traveling direction of incident light and the traveling direction of ultrasonic waves. . In this embodiment, θB≒ 4 °, θZ≒ 70 °, θAIt is preferable to adjust to ≈ 9 °, but θZ≒ 0 ° as θBAnd θAAnd may be adjusted.
