As a result, a state in which power consumption on the secondary side in the sleep mode is almost eliminated is realized.
[0035]
Here, 12V is a power supply system for driving a load with large power consumption such as a motor and a heater, 5V and 3.3VB are supplied to a power supply for a normal circuit, and 3.3VA is supplied to a circuit required for the operation of the CPU1. It is a power source, and is supplied to the

[0042]
Here, in this apparatus, the operation mode in the case of an extended function configuration in which the FAX unit 9 or PDL unit 10, the LAN interface 11, and the parallel interface 12 are mounted and the basic functions are expanded is shown in Table 2.
[0043]
[Table 2]
The settings of the normal mode and the power saving mode are the same as those in the basic configuration, but the setting of the sleep mode is changed and 3.3V A is kept on, so that the power supply for the

Although operation at 60 MHz is not sufficient for normal operation, in order to monitor the FAX unit 9, the LAN interface 11, and the parallel interface 12 and check whether there is incoming data, the minimum necessary communication processing is performed. It is enough. If there is incoming data, the

FIG. 3 is a flowchart showing the flow of processing when the image forming apparatus is activated. The control process shown in this flowchart and the flowchart of FIG. 4 to be corrected is executed by the
[0046]
When activated in step S1, power supply control signals PWR1 and PWR2 are both set to L in step S2 to start supplying all power, and the system clock is set to 90 MHz.
[0047]
Next, in step S3, the mounting state of the FAX unit 9 is confirmed. If the FAX unit 9 is present, the process proceeds to step S6, TRUE is set in the MFP flag, and then the process proceeds to step S8 to initialize the apparatus.
[0048]
If the FAX unit 9 is not attached in step S3, the process proceeds to step S4, and the attachment state of the LAN interface 11 is confirmed. If the LAN interface 11 is present, the process proceeds to step S6, TRUE is set in the MFP flag, and the process proceeds to step S8 to initialize the apparatus.
[0049]
If the LAN interface 11 is not attached in step S4, the process proceeds to step S5 to check the attachment state of the parallel interface 12. If the parallel interface 12 is present, the process proceeds to step S6, TRUE is set in the MFP flag, and then the process proceeds to step S8 to initialize the apparatus.
[0050]
If the parallel interface 12 is not attached in step S5, the process proceeds to step S7, FALSE is set in the MFP flag, and the apparatus is initialized in step S8.
[0051]
According to the above steps, when none of the FAX unit 9, the LAN interface 11, and the parallel interface 12 is mounted, the MFP flag is set to FALSE, and it is stored that only the basic copying function is configured.
[0052]
Next, the outline of the operation when entering the sleep state will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. The conditions for entering sleep include when the idle state has been maintained for a certain period of time, when the user has specified the sleep mode from the operation unit, or when an instruction is received from a connected computer by a command. When the process enters step S11 due to the above factors, the contents of the FMP flag are confirmed in step S12.
[0053]
If the MFP flag is FALSE, only the basic copy function is configured, and there is no need to cancel sleep due to an external factor. Therefore, the process proceeds to step S15, and the control signals PWR1 and PWR2 of the
[0054]
On the other hand, if the MFP flag is TRUE in step S12, the process proceeds to step S13 to control the I / O port 4 so that the signal PWR1 is L and the signal PWR2 is H. As a result, only the signal PWR2 becomes H, so that only 3.3VA of the output of the
[0055]
Next, in step S14, the I / O port 4 is set so that the system clock of the clock generator is 60 MHz. As a result, the operating frequency of the block using 3.3VA to which power is supplied is lowered, power consumption is reduced, and a sleep state is entered.
[0056]
As described above, the setting of the first standby state in the configuration in which the expansion unit is not mounted is set in the remaining devices except for the power of the expansion unit, compared to the setting of the second standby state in the state in which the expansion unit is mounted. Energy saving is achieved by controlling the power consumption so that the power consumption is reduced in terms of electric power.
[0057]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to eliminate the need to supply power to an extra circuit and to save unnecessary power consumption.
