Description

【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an illumination device used for illuminating an arbitrary object. The present invention also relates to a liquid crystal device and an electronic apparatus using the lighting device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Currently, liquid crystal devices are widely used in various electronic devices such as mobile phones and portable information terminals. In many cases, the liquid crystal device is used to display visible information such as letters and numbers. A liquid crystal device generally includes a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal panel including a liquid crystal sealed between the substrates, and an illumination device attached to the liquid crystal panel.
[0003]
Examples of the illumination device include an illumination device having a structure in which light generated by a point-like light source such as an LED is emitted in a planar shape using a light guide, or an EL (Electro Luminescence) member that is a planar light source. Various lighting devices such as a lighting device using a light source are known.
[0004]
Conventionally, an illumination device having a structure as shown in FIG. 3 is known as an illumination device using an EL member. The lighting device 51 includes an EL member 52 and a circuit board 53, and the EL member 52 is provided with a lead terminal 54 that protrudes outward. In the EL member 52, the back surface of the light emitting surface 52a is affixed to the EL mounting surface 53a of the circuit board 53, and the lead terminals 54 are bent to the back side of the circuit board 53 as shown in FIG. It is connected to the land 56 of the substrate 53 by soldering or the like.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, with regard to the above-described conventional lighting device, (1) the reliability of the terminal itself is lowered because the lead terminal which is a metal terminal is bent, and (2) stress is applied to the terminal connecting portion due to the reaction force of the bent lead terminal. This causes problems such as a decrease in connection reliability and a decrease in safety because the terminal (3) can be easily touched from the outside.
[0006]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and an object of the present invention is to improve the connection reliability and safety of a terminal portion with respect to a lighting device using an EL member.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
(1) In order to achieve the above object, the lighting apparatus according to the present invention, the EL member having a terminal, in the illumination device and a circuit board having an EL mounting surface for mounting the EL member, The EL member is formed with a portion projecting outside from an end side of the EL member for connecting the terminal, and the terminal includes an end side of the EL member formed with the portion projecting outside. The terminal is connected to the portion projecting to the outside so as to extend in a parallel direction, and the terminal and the circuit board are connected on the EL mounting surface.
[0008]
In this lighting device, the terminal of the EL member is not bent and is conductively connected to an appropriate place on the EL mounting surface of the circuit board in the initial state, so that the terminal itself is not deteriorated by bending, and a reaction force is generated on the terminal. Connection reliability is improved, and the terminal is not exposed to the outside of the circuit board, thereby improving safety.
[0009]
(2) The circuit board includes a chip mounting part such as a resistor and a capacitor, and a circuit mounting surface for mounting an IC chip. The EL mounting surface for mounting the EL member is the same surface as the circuit mounting surface. Alternatively, it can be the surface opposite to the circuit mounting surface. However, if the back side of the EL mounting surface is the circuit mounting surface, that is, if the EL member is mounted on the opposite side of the circuit mounting surface, the workability for the mounting is improved, and further, the EL member and the circuit are mounted. The thickness after bonding to the substrate can be reduced. When the back side of the circuit mounting surface is an EL mounting surface, the circuit mounting surface can be electrically connected to the EL mounting surface through a through hole.
[0010]
(3) Next, a liquid crystal device according to the present invention includes a liquid crystal panel including a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal sealed between the substrates, and a lighting device attached to the liquid crystal panel. The apparatus is characterized in that the illuminating device is constituted by the illuminating device described in the above (1) or (2).
[0011]
(4) Next, an electronic apparatus according to the present invention includes an electronic device having a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal panel including a liquid crystal sealed between the substrates, and an illumination device attached to the liquid crystal panel. In the apparatus, the lighting device is configured by the lighting device described in the above (1) or (2).
[0012]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
(First embodiment)
The lighting device according to the present invention can be used alone for various purposes, but the following description will exemplify the case where the lighting device is incorporated in a liquid crystal device. FIG. 1 shows an embodiment of a lighting device according to the present invention and an embodiment of a liquid crystal device using the same. The liquid crystal device 1 shown here includes a liquid crystal panel 2, a flexible circuit board 6 on which a liquid crystal driving IC 4 is mounted, and an illumination device 3. The flexible circuit board 6 is conductively connected to the liquid crystal panel 2.
[0013]
The liquid crystal panel 2 includes a pair of translucent substrates 7a and 7b bonded to each other by a sealing material (not shown), and a liquid crystal 8 sealed in a so-called cell gap formed between the substrates. Consists of including. The translucent substrates 7a and 7b are made of, for example, glass or plastic. A polarizing plate 9 is attached to the outer surfaces of the translucent substrates 7a and 7b.
[0014]
Translucent electrodes (not shown) are formed on the inner surfaces of the translucent substrates 7a and 7b by ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) or the like. In addition, terminals 11a and 11b connected to the translucent electrodes are formed on the portions of the translucent substrates 7a and 7b that protrude to the outside of the opposite translucent substrates 7b and 7a, respectively. Is done.
[0015]
An appropriate wiring pattern (not shown) is formed on the flexible circuit board 6, and these wiring patterns include terminals 12 a and 12 b formed on the side edge portions. The flexible circuit board 6 is made of an anisotropic conductive adhesive such as ACF (Anisotropic Conductive Film) so that the terminals 12a and 12b are conductively connected to the terminals 11a and 11b on the liquid crystal panel 2 side. It adheres to each translucent board | substrate 7a and 7b.
[0016]
The illumination device 3 includes an EL member 13 and a circuit board 14. As is well known, the EL member 13 is a planar light-emitting source formed by sandwiching an EL light-emitting layer between a pair of planar light-transmitting electrodes, and each of the light-transmitting electrodes is a main part of the EL member 13. It is connected to lead terminals 16, 16 projecting outside. In the figure, the upper surface side of the EL member 13 is a light emitting surface, and light emitted from the light emitting surface is modulated according to the alignment of the liquid crystal while passing through the liquid crystal panel 2.
[0017]
These lead terminals 16 are provided so as to extend in a direction parallel to the end side 13 a of the EL member 13. By doing so, space saving can be achieved as compared with the case where these lead terminals 16 are provided in a direction perpendicular to the end side 13a, that is, in a direction protruding from the EL member 13.
[0018]
The upper surface of the circuit board 14 is the EL mounting surface 14a, and the opposite surface (that is, the back surface of the drawing) is the circuit mounting surface 14b. A drive circuit required for driving the EL member 13 and other necessary circuits are assembled on the circuit mounting surface 14b. The circuit mounting surface 14b has an uneven surface because various components such as an IC chip and a passive element chip are assembled. On the other hand, since no components can be assembled to the EL mounting surface 14a, the EL mounting surface 14a is a flat surface.
[0019]
Lands 17 are formed at one end of the EL mounting surface 14 a of the circuit board 14, and these lands 17 are conductively connected to the circuit mounting surface 14 b on the back side through conductive through holes 18 and 18.
[0020]
In this embodiment, the EL member 13 is attached to the EL mounting surface 14a which is the opposite surface of the circuit mounting surface 14b, and the lead terminals 16 and 16 are connected to the lands 17 and 17 on the circuit board 14 by soldering or the like. The Thereby, the electrodes constituting the EL member 13 are connected to the drive circuit on the circuit board 14. Further, the flexible circuit boards 6 and 6 are bent in a state where the illumination device 3 is disposed on the bottom surface of the liquid crystal device 2, and the terminals 15 and 15 are conductively connected to the circuit mounting surface 14 b of the circuit board 14.
[0021]
As described above, in the present embodiment, the lead terminal 16 of the EL member 13 is connected to the same surface as the EL mounting surface 14a of the circuit board 14, and a circuit like the lead terminal 54 in the conventional apparatus shown in FIG. No need to bend outside the substrate. Thus, since the lead terminal 16 of the EL member 13 can be conductively connected to the land 17 of the EL mounting surface 14a of the circuit board 14 without being bent, the terminal 16 itself can be prevented from being deteriorated due to the bending. By preventing the reaction force from being generated, the connection reliability can be improved. Further, since the terminal 16 is not exposed to the outside of the circuit board 14, the safety is improved.
[0022]
(Second Embodiment)
FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of a mobile phone which is an embodiment of an electronic apparatus according to the present invention. The cellular phone 21 shown here has a base portion 23 having a plurality of key switches 22 and a cover 26 having an antenna 24 connected to the base portion 23 so as to be rotatable. For example, the liquid crystal device 1 shown in FIG. 1 is disposed inside the cover 26 so that the image display area is exposed to the outside.
[0023]
(Other embodiments)
The present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments. However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments, and various modifications can be made within the scope of the invention described in the claims.
[0024]
For example, FIG. 1 illustrates the case where the illumination device 3 including the EL member 13 is incorporated in the liquid crystal device 1 in advance, but the illumination device 3 can also be handled separately from the liquid crystal panel 2. In that case, the illuminating device 3 and the liquid crystal panel 2 will be assembled | attached in a required place as needed. Of course, the illumination device 3 can be used to illuminate any object other than the liquid crystal panel 2.
[0025]
Further, in the EL member 13 shown in FIG. 1, the lead terminal 16 projecting outside from the main body portion of the EL member 13 is used. Thirteen terminals can also be configured. Further, the electronic device is not limited to the mobile phone having the structure shown in FIG. 2, and a mobile phone having any other structure, or a mobile electronic terminal or any other type of electronic device can be considered. In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the EL member 13 is bonded to the EL mounting surface 14a with the opposite surface of the circuit mounting surface 14b of the circuit board 14 as the EL mounting surface 14a. The EL member can also be bonded.
[0026]
【The invention's effect】
According to the lighting device, the liquid crystal device, and the electronic apparatus according to the present invention, the terminal of the EL member is not bent and is conductively connected to an appropriate position on the EL mounting surface of the circuit board without being bent. Since the terminal is not deteriorated and no reaction force is generated on the terminals, the connection reliability is improved, and the terminals are not exposed to the outside of the circuit board.
