【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、電池を保護するための保護回路基板を備えた電池に関する。

【従来の技術】
一般的に、高エネルギー密度を有するリチウムイオン二次電池には、電池本体を過充電、過放電等から保護するための保護回路基板が備えられている。

図4には、保護回路基板101を備えた電池100を示した。この保護回路基板101は、所定の回路パターンが形成されたプリント基板上に、電子部品が実装されたものである。回路パターンの一部は接続パッド102とされ、この接続パッド102上にはニッケルブロック103がはんだ付けにより固着されている。そして、このニッケルブロック103上に電池本体104のリード105がスポット溶接によって接続されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところが、ニッケルブロック103へのリード105の接続の際に、スポット溶接によってニッケルブロック103が熱せられ、この熱によってはんだ106が溶融してしまう場合がある。このような場合に、柔らかくなったはんだがニッケルブロック103の自重、およびスポット時の加圧によって押し潰され、接続パッド102からはみ出してしまうと、隣接する導体回路や電子部品との短絡を生じるおそれがある(図5参照)。特に、近年の電池の小型化の要請に伴って、保護回路基板101上の回路パターンが高密度化されるとともに、ニッケルブロック103にも小さく薄いものが使用されるようになってきたため、この問題が顕著となっていた。

本発明は上記事情に鑑みてなされたものであって、その目的は、保護回路基板上の接続ランドからのはんだのはみ出しを回避できる電池を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記の課題を解決するために請求項1の発明に係る電池は、電池本体と、この電池本体の保護を行うための保護回路基板とを備えてなり、前記保護回路基板の接続ランドに半田付けされた中間接続部材に、前記電池本体から導出されたリードを溶接するようにしたものにおいて、前記中間接続部材のうち前記接続ランドと対向する面には、前記中間接続部材を前記接続ランドに対して隙間を開けて支持するための半円球状の脚部が突設されていることを特徴とする。

【発明の作用、および発明の効果】
請求項1の発明によれば、中間接続部材において保護回路基板の接続ランドと対向する面には、半円球状の脚部が突設されており、接続ランドとの間に、脚部の突設高さ分の隙間が確保されるようになっている。したがって、はんだは、スポット溶接時の熱により溶融した場合でも、この中間接続部材に押し潰されることなく隙間内に留まることができる。これにより、はんだの接続ランドからのはみ出しを回避できる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の保護回路基板および電池を具体化した一実施形態について、図1〜図3を参照しつつ詳細に説明する。

図1には、本実施形態の電池1を示した。この電池1の電池本体2は、角型のリチウムイオン二次電池である。電池本体2には、アルミニウムにより有底の角型容器状に形成された電池缶3が備えられており、その内部に発電要素が収容されている。電池缶3の開口部は、蓋部4を溶着することにより塞がれている。この蓋部4には、この蓋部4を貫通する負極端子5が、絶縁材を介して取り付けられている。また、電池缶3の底面6には、薄板状のクラッド材8が取り付けられている。このクラッド材8は、ニッケルにより形成された薄板状の基材にアルミニウムが圧延されたものであり、アルミニウム面側が底面6との接触面となるようにして、底面6に溶着されている。なお、以下の説明において、電池1の蓋部4側(図示左上方向)を前方、底面6側(図示右下方向)を後方とする。

電池缶3内に収容される発電要素は、図示はしないが、正極用電極板と負極用電極板とをセパレーターを介して積層し、巻回することにより作製されたものである。正極用電極板からは正極リードが導出されて、電池缶3の底部に溶着されており、これにより、電池缶3全体が正極端子としての役割を担っている。また、負極用電極板からは負極リードが導出されて、蓋部4に備えられた負極端子5に溶着されている。

電池本体2には、後述の保護回路基板30を接続するための一対のリード11、21が取り付けられている。リード11、21は、ニッケル板を型抜き加工および曲げ加工することによって形成されており、短尺のプラスリード11と、長尺のマイナスリード21とで構成されている。

プラスリード11には、短冊状の基体部12と、この基体部12から突設された接続片13とが備えられている。このプラスリード11は、電池本体2における底面6の一端(図1において左端)寄りの位置に配され、基体部12がクラッド材8にスポット溶接により溶着されている。また、接続片13は、基体部12の上辺において左端よりの位置から、上方に向かって延設されるとともに、基体部12との連結部分から直角に折り曲げられて、後方に向かって突出した状態とされている。

一方、マイナスリード21には、長尺の帯状の基体部22と、この基体部22から突設された接続片23とが備えられている。基体部22は、その全長が電池本体2の側面7の長さよりもやや長くされるとともに、その一端よりもやや中央よりの位置で折り曲げられてL字状とされている。そして、電池本体2の底面6においてプラスリード11が溶着されているのとは逆側の端部(図1において右端部)および側面7に沿って配され、絶縁テープ24を介して電池本体2に接着されている。この絶縁テープ24は、正極端子である電池缶3とマイナスリード21との間に介在することで、両者が直接に接触して電池1が短絡するのを防止している。基体部22の後端部は、保護素子25を介して負極端子5に接続されている。そして、マイナスリード21において電池本体2の底面6に接着されている部分には、プラスリード11の接続片13と同様の形状の接続片23が設けられている。

さて、この電池本体2には、電池1の過充電や過放電を防止するための保護回路基板30が接続されている。保護回路基板30は、電池本体2の底面6とほぼ同じ大きさの矩形状のプリント基板37上に、所定の回路パターンが形成されるとともに、電子部品31が実装されたものである。回路パターンの一部は接続ランド32とされており、ここにリード11、21との接続のための一対のニッケルブロック34(本発明の中間接続部材に該当する)が固着されている。

ニッケルブロック34は、ニッケル板により矩形状に形成されている(図2参照)。このニッケルブロック34の表裏両面のうち一面側は、接続ランド32に固着される固着面35とされており、この固着面35において四隅の角部よりやや内側の位置には、それぞれ半円球状の脚部36が突設されている。この脚部36は、例えばニッケルブロック34の固着面35とは逆側の面から棒状の金具を押し込むことによって形成される。

ニッケルブロック34は、この固着面35を接続ランド32側に向けて、接続ランド32にはんだ付けにより固着されている。そして、ニッケルブロック34の上面側には、各リード11、21の接続片13、23が、スポット溶接により溶着されている。

次に、上記のように構成された本実施形態の作用および効果について説明する。

上記したように、ニッケルブロック34は、固着面35を接続ランド32側に向けて、接続ランド32にはんだ付けにより固着されている。このとき、固着面35には脚部36が形成されているので、固着面35と接続ランド32との間には、脚部36の突出高さ分の隙間が確保されており、この隙間がはんだ33によって埋められた状態となっている(図3A参照)。

このニッケルブロック34にリード11、21を接続する際には、まず、ニッケルブロック34の上面に、リード11、21における接続片13、23をあてがう。そして、スポット溶接を行うことにより、ニッケルブロック34と接続片13、23とを溶着する(図3B参照)。

このとき、スポット溶接によってニッケルブロック34が熱せられ、この熱によってはんだ33が溶融してしまう場合がある。しかし、脚部36によって固着面35と接続ランド32との間には、脚部36の突出高さ分の隙間が確保されている。このため、はんだ33はニッケルブロック34によって押し潰されることなく、この隙間内に留まることができる。これにより、はんだ33の接続ランド32からのはみ出しを防止できる。

本発明の技術的範囲は、上記した実施形態によって限定されるものではなく、例えば、次に記載するようなものも本発明の技術的範囲に含まれる。その他、本発明の技術的範囲は、均等の範囲にまで及ぶものである。
1)本実施形態によれば、脚部36は4個設けられているが、脚部の数は本実施形態に限るものではなく、3個以下、あるいは5個以上であってもよい。
2)本実施形態によれば、脚部36は固着面35において四隅の角部のやや内側にそれぞれ形成されているが、本発明によれば脚部の形成位置は本実施形態に限るものではなく、固着面内であればいずれの位置に形成されていてもよい。
