これは例えば、図3に示すように、切欠き部16の軸方向長さDを、距離X(係合溝のロック壁331がレジスタリング7を介して第一ストッパ21と係合した時点の、ハウジング1の開口端から切欠き部16内のレジスタリング7の後端までの距離)よりも大きくなるよう設定することによって実現することができる(D>X)。
【0050】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a chain tensioner that keeps the tension of a chain, for example, the tension of a chain that drives a cam shaft, constant.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a chain transmission device, for example, a chain transmission device that transmits rotation of a crankshaft to a camshaft in an automobile engine, a chain tensioner is generally arranged on the slack side of the chain so as to keep the chain tension constant.
[0003]
A chain tensioner in which a spring and a plunger are incorporated in a housing and the plunger is given an outward projecting property by the spring pressure of the spring is conventionally known. In this type of chain tensioner, the plunger is pressed by a spring pressed against the chain to be in a tension state, while the pushing force applied from the chain to the plunger is buffered by the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic damper chamber formed on the back of the plunger. By doing so, the tension of the chain is kept constant.
[0004]
In this chain tensioner, if the chain is held in a tensioned state by the cam stop posture when the engine is stopped, the plunger may be pushed in by the chain and may be largely retracted. At this time, when the engine is restarted, a sudden slack occurs in the chain, and the plunger moves greatly outward. In this case, since the hydraulic pump that supplies the hydraulic pressure to the hydraulic damper chamber is just after start-up and the discharge amount is small, it is not possible to supply sufficient oil to the hydraulic damper chamber, and air enters the hydraulic damper chamber and is dumped. The characteristics may deteriorate and abnormal noise may be generated.
[0005]
In order to solve this type of problem, a chain tensioner that can limit the return movement of the plunger is disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 3-10819, Japanese Patent Publication No. 9-512884, US Pat. No. 5,931,754, etc. Proposed.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The invention described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 3-10819 has the following problems.
[0007]
(1) In the present invention, a locking groove is provided on the inner peripheral surface of the casing, and the stopper ring engaged with the locking groove is engaged with the outer peripheral surface of the buffer piston, thereby restricting the return movement of the buffer piston. However, since the locking groove is formed on the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical casing, it is difficult to form the locking groove with high accuracy, and the manufacturing cost increases.
[0008]
(2) Since the spring member is arranged behind the buffer piston and the check valve is arranged behind the spring member, and the buffer piston has a solid structure, the axial dimension of the entire unit becomes large.
[0009]
(3) Since the stopper ring is not directly touched from the outside and is expanded only by the axial movement of the buffer piston, the piston and the stopper ring are not locked by the stopper ring when the buffer piston is inserted into the casing during assembly. A complicated and highly accurate groove processing is required for the casing.
[0010]
(4) In order to maintain the initial set state after assembly (the piston is pushed deepest into the casing: Fig. 2 of the publication), special mechanisms such as grooves and assembly rings and special tools are required. Processing man-hours increase.
[0011]
(5) Since the register ring cannot be operated from the outside, it is difficult to separate the piston and the casing, resulting in poor maintainability.
[0012]
The invention described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 9-512884 is based on the same technical idea as the invention described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 3-10819, and basically has the same problems. The problem (4) is solved by realizing the initial set state with a single ring member, but the groove shape is complicated accordingly.
[0013]
On the other hand, in U.S. Pat. No. 5,931,754, an engagement groove that engages with the clip is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the piston, but the engagement groove and the spring are at positions separated in the axial direction. Furthermore, since the piston has a solid structure, the required space in the axial direction is large. Further, as a member for restricting the return of the described piston, a two-arm U-shaped clip is used instead of the ring member. This clip cannot be set in the housing in advance before inserting the piston into the housing at the time of assembly, and it must be inserted into the gap between the inner periphery of the housing and the outer periphery of the piston after the piston is inserted. I don't get it. Therefore, it is necessary to make the inner diameter of the housing opening larger than the outer diameter of the clip. In this case, in order to prevent the clip from falling off, it is necessary to attach another ring member (second stop ring) to the housing opening. Yes, the number of parts increases. Further, in order to maintain the initial set state after assembly, a dedicated member (such as a stopper pin) or a groove is required, which increases the number of parts and the number of processing steps.
[0014]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a chain tensioner that solves the above-described problems of the conventional techniques, is compact, has excellent operability and maintainability, is easy to handle, and can be manufactured at low cost.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a chain tensioner according to the present invention includes a bottomed cylindrical housing, a plunger that is slidably incorporated in the housing, a hollow portion, and a hollow portion of the plunger that is inserted into the plunger. A return spring that imparts projecting properties in the direction, a plurality of engaging grooves each having a tapered surface formed on the outer periphery of the plunger including the outer periphery of the hollow portion, and an operating portion for expanding the diameter of the ring portion and the ring portion A register ring that can be operated from the outside of the housing through a notch provided in the housing, can be engaged with the engagement groove, and can slide on the tapered surface of the engagement groove; A check valve that is disposed at the bottom of the housing and supplies working fluid into the housing and prevents backflow, and is provided on the inner periphery of the housing and is engaged with an engaging groove. A first stopper for restricting the retraction of the plunger by engagement with the register ring, provided on the front side of the first stopper circumferential housing, and a second stopper register ring and engageable, in the outer periphery of the plunger It is characterized by comprising a set wall that is formed in front of the foremost engaging groove and engages with the second stopper via the register ring .
[0016]
According to this chain tensioner, a hollow part is provided in the plunger that moves back and forth according to the slack and tension of the belt, and a spring is inserted into this hollow part. Therefore, the axial dimension of the entire unit can be reduced by this amount. Further, the axial dimension can be made more compact than the conventional product. In addition, a plurality of engagement grooves are formed on the outer periphery of the plunger including the outer periphery of the hollow portion, and the engagement groove formation area and the return spring arrangement area are overlapped in the axial direction. The axial dimension can be made more compact than the separated conventional product. In consideration of downsizing, it is desirable that all of the plurality of engagement grooves are formed on the outer periphery of the hollow portion. However, as long as at least one engagement groove is formed on the outer periphery of the hollow portion, a certain effect can be obtained. It is done.
[0017]
Further, according to the chain tensioner, since the engagement groove is formed on the outer peripheral surface of the plunger, the engagement groove can be processed with high accuracy and low cost by, for example, plastic processing, and the accuracy is high. The engagement groove can be obtained at low cost.
[0018]
Since the register ring has a ring part and an operation part for expanding the diameter of the ring part, the diameter of the register ring can be expanded regardless of the axial movement of the plunger, and the operating state of the chain tensioner ( Switching between initial setting, return motion regulation, disassembly regulation, etc.) can be performed smoothly and easily. In this case, by enabling the operation portion to be operated from the outside of the housing through a notch provided in the housing, it becomes possible for the operator to increase the diameter of the register ring manually (or using a tool). Further improvement in handleability is achieved.
[0019]
By providing a portion that intersects the register ring, an expanded state can be easily obtained.
[0020]
The notch is formed so that the register ring is not in contact with the inner part of the notch when the register ring engaged with the engaging groove is engaged with the first stopper. Even when the register ring moves back and forth with the movement, the impact due to the collision with the housing does not act on the register ring, and deformation of the register ring is prevented.
[0021]
By providing a second stopper that can be engaged with the register ring on the front side of the first stopper on the inner periphery of the housing, it is possible to prevent the plunger from popping out due to the spring force of the return spring. Is done. By forming the second stopper integrally with the housing instead of a separate member, the number of parts can be reduced. “Front” means the direction in which the plunger protrudes from the housing.
[0022]
The inner diameter of the second stopper of the housing can be made smaller than the outer diameter of the register ring, whereby the second stopper prevents the register ring from falling out of the housing.
[0023]
A state in which the plunger is housed deep in the housing by forming a set wall that engages with the second stopper via the register ring on the outer periphery of the plunger and in front of the engagement groove in the front row (initial setting state) It is possible to hold it at the same time and the handling property during transportation is improved. This initial set state can be easily released by expanding the register ring so that the inner diameter of the register ring is larger than the outer diameter of the set wall.
[0024]
A situation where the plunger falls off the housing due to the spring force of the return spring by forming a safety wall that engages with the second stopper via the register ring on the outer periphery of the plunger and behind the engagement groove in the last row Can be reliably prevented. In this case, if the diameter of the register ring is increased so that the outer diameter of the register ring is larger than the outer diameter of the safety wall, the plunger can be removed from the housing, so that the disassembling work is facilitated and the maintainability is improved. “Backward” means the direction in which the plunger returns into the housing.
[0025]
By providing the plunger with an air vent hole that opens in the hollow portion, the air mixed in the working fluid is quickly discharged to the outside, so that the buffer function by the working fluid is stably maintained.
[0026]
By making each engagement groove into a shape with a tapered surface on the rear side, the register ring guided by the tapered surface can be smoothly expanded in diameter, so the plunger can move forward smoothly and operate stably. Will increase.
[0027]
By providing a cylindrical surface behind the taper surface of each engagement groove, this cylindrical surface is fitted to the inner peripheral surface of the housing, so that the vibration when the plunger moves back and forth is suppressed, and the inner peripheral surface of the housing and the plunger The leakage amount of the working fluid passing through the gap between the outer peripheral surface can be easily managed.
