【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、映像を再生する際に、該映像に関連付けられた関連情報を提示するための装置および方法に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来、映像と、その映像に関連する関連情報を提示する装置や方法として、映像と同期して関連情報を提示するものがある。例えば、ＳＭＩＬ（Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language）を用いて映像と関連情報の提示タイミングを記述しておき、映像と同時に関連情報を提示する仕組みが、Real Networks,Inc.のReal Player等のストリーム映像再生装置において実現されている。

同様に、ＡＲＩＢ ＳＴＤ−Ｂ２４“デジタル放送におけるデータ放送符号化方式と伝送方式”により既定されるシステムでは、ＢＳ／ＣＳデジタル放送などのデジタル放送の受信装置において、映像、音声放送チャネルで放送されるテレビ番組やラジオ番組に関する関連情報を、当該番組映像と同時に提示することが可能である。

上述の装置における映像および関連情報の閲覧インタフェースは、一般に、関連情報がブラウザに表示され、Picture in Pictureでブラウザ上に映像が提示される形式であり、再生映像の進行に同期して対応する関連情報が提示される。

また、映像中の特定の被写体を選択することにより該被写体に関連する情報が提示される関連情報の閲覧インタフェースが提案されている。例えば、Jonathan Dakss,Stefan Agamanolis,Edmond Chalom,V.Michael Bove,jr.,“Hyperlinked Video,"Proc.SPIE Multimedia Systems and Applications,v.352,(inpress),1998では、ＴＶ映像中の特定の被写体を選択することにより該被写体に関連する情報がＴＶ内の映像に重畳して提示されるシステムが提案されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、再生映像の進行に同期して対応する関連情報を提示する関連情報の閲覧インタフェースでは、視聴者は、映像視聴と同時に関連情報を視聴しなければならないため、関連情報の情報量が多いと十分に該情報の内容を把握できない。したがって、あまり多くの関連情報を提示できない問題がある。

さらに、上述のインタフェースでは、視聴者にとって興味のない関連情報も提示されるため、映像と同時に関連情報を表示する機能が、視聴者にとってわずらわしいと感じられる問題がある。

一方、映像中の特定の被写体を選択することにより該被写体に関連する情報が提示される関連情報の閲覧インタフェースでは、視聴者が特定の被写体に興味を示し、これを選択するまでは、再生映像のみが提示されているので視聴者にとっては上述のようなわずらわしさはない。

しかしながら、映像中のどのような関連情報が関連付けられているかを知る手段がない。このため、視聴者は興味を持った被写体に対して選択操作を行うが、視聴者が選択した被写体に関連情報が関連付けられていない場合には、関連情報が提示されない。このように選択操作に対する結果として関連情報が提示されたりされなかったりするため、視聴者にストレスを感じさせる問題がある。

あるいは、同様に映像中のどのような関連情報が関連付けられているかを知ることに起因して、興味深い関連情報が映像中の被写体に関連付けられているのにも関わらず、これを視聴者が見逃してしまう問題がある。

また、映像中の被写体そのものを選択するという操作は、映像中の被写体が高速に移動している場合などには極めて困難であるという問題がある。

さらに、ＶＯＤシステムによってネットワークを介して提供される配信映像や、蓄積映像を再生する場合においては、利用者は、早送りや巻き戻しや映像シーンのスキップ等の映像再生制御を行うことが可能である。この場合、前記の各種映像再生制御によって映像中の興味のあるシーンや被写体を検索することによって、該シーンもしくは被写体に関連付けられた関連情報を検索することが考えられる。

しかしながら、前述の関連情報提示インタフェースを用いて、前記の各種映像再生制御によって映像を制御しつつ、所望の関連情報を検索することは、上述した問題に起因して、必ずしも容易ではない。

本発明は、上述の問題を鑑みてなされたものであり、映像と同時に映像に関連する情報を提供する装置において、利便性に優れた関連情報提示インタフェースを実現することを目的とする。

ＶＯＤシステムによってネットワークを介して提供される配信映像や、蓄積映像を再生する場合においては、利用者は、早送りや巻き戻しや映像シーンのスキップ等の映像再生制御を行うことが可能である。本発明では、特に、このような映像再生制御が可能な映像を視聴する際に、効果的に関連情報の存在を通知し必要に応じて提示できるインタフェースを実現する。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記の課題を解決するために本発明では、映像に関連する情報である関連情報を提示する装置において、映像を表示する映像表示手段と、前記映像が表示される領域とは別の領域に、再生中のシーン、または、該シーンとその前後複数シーンに関する関連情報の内容を抽象した図形である関連情報アイコンを表示する関連情報アイコン表示手段と、制御手段より構成され、前記制御手段が、少なくとも各シーンのシーン番号を含む前記映像のシーン構造を示すシーン構造情報と、少なくとも前記関連情報アイコンに利用する画像を特定するための情報を含む関連情報属性情報を、前記シーン番号のそれぞれに対応して有し、該映像中の各シーンにどのような関連情報が関連付けられているかを示す、関連情報リンク情報とを記憶する手段と、前記シーン構造情報および前記関連情報リンク情報を参照して、前記映像表示手段で再生中のシーン、または、該シーンとその前後複数シーンに関する関連情報アイコンを前記関連情報アイコン表示手段に表示させる手段と、前記関連情報アイコンが選択された時点で、前記選択された関連情報アイコンに対応する関連情報を提示する手段とを有することを特徴とする映像関連情報提示装置を解決手段とする。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の実施の形態について図を用いて詳細に説明する。

本発明の一実施形態例における映像関連情報提示装置の基本構成例について図１を用いて説明する。

本発明の映像関連情報提示装置は、図１に示すように、映像を表示する映像表示手段１と、関連情報に対応するアイコンである関連情報アイコンを表示する関連情報アイコン表示手段２と、制御手段３より構成される。本発明の映像関連情報提示装置は、さらに、映像中において任意の２つのカット間にある連続した映像フレームの集合をシーンとする場合に、任意のシーンを選択するためのシーン選択手段４を具備する場合がある。また、制御手段３は、該映像のシーン構造を示すシーン構造情報、および、該映像中の各シーンにどのような関連情報が関連付けられているかを示す関連情報リンク情報を保持している。なお、図１には、詳細に記載していないが、本発明の映像関連情報提示装置は、デコーダー等、映像再生のために必要な各種手段は、基本機能として制御手段３に組み込むことができる。また、必要に応じて、ブラウザ等、関連情報を提示するための手段を具備する場合がある。

上記の映像関連情報提示装置は、映像再生と該映像に関連する情報を提供することに特化したハードウェアとして実装することができる。また、同様に、ＭｉｃｒｏＳｏｆｔ Ｗｉｎｄｏｗｓ（登録商標、以下同じ），ＭａｃＯＳ，Ｌｉｎｕｘ，ＵＮＩＸ（登録商標）などの汎用のＯＳが提供するＧＵＩ上で動作するソフトウェアアプリケーションプログラムとして実装することができる。ＯＳ上で動作するソフトウェアアプリケーションプログラムとして実装される場合、上記の映像再生のために必要な各種手段や、関連情報を提示するための手段は、ＯＳ上に実装され該手段を提供するモジュールを、本発明の映像関連情報提示装置の制御手段３が流用する構成とすることができる。

シーン選択手段４は、該映像関連情報提示装置を利用する視聴者が、無作為に映像中の所望するシーンを選択することを可能にするための手段である。シーン選択手段４は、例えば、全てのシーン番号を視聴者に提示し、視聴者がシーンを選択する構成でも良い。あるいは、視聴者が入力手段によりシーン番号などのシーンを特定するための情報を入力することによりシーンを選択する構成でも良い。あるいは、次のシーンを選択するボタンと、前のシーンを選択するボタンを具備し、視聴者が複数回、該ボタンを操作することによって所望のシーンを選択する構成でも良い。なお、図２には、映像関連情報提示装置のシーン選択手段４が、次のシーンを選択するボタンと、前のシーンを選択するボタンを具備し、視聴者が複数回、該ボタンを操作することによって所望のシーンを選択する構成となっている場合を示している。

関連情報リンク情報は、常に再生対象となっている映像に対応するものであり、該映像中の各シーンにどのような関連情報が関連付けられているかを示す情報が記述される。図４には、ＸＭＬ形式で記述した関連情報リンク情報の記述例を示す。図４に示す記述例では、＜ｓｃｅｎｅ ｉｄ＝”ｉ”＞…＜／ｓｃｅｎｅ＞で囲まれる記述が、シーン番号ｉのシーンに関連付けられた関連情報属性情報を示している。関連情報属性情報は＜ＲＤＦ＞…＜／ＲＤＦ＞で囲まれる部分が一つの関連情報に対応しており、各関連情報の関連情報属性情報には、関連情報を特定するための情報、関連情報アイコンとして利用する画像を特定するための情報、および、関連情報のタイトルなどが記述されている。なお、関連情報を特定するための情報、および、関連情報アイコンとして利用する画像を特定するための情報として、ＵＲＬを用いることができる。

映像関連情報提示装置は、これを利用する視聴者によって特定の映像の再生が指示された時点で動作を開始する。

まず、映像関連情報提示装置の制御手段３は、再生が指示された該映像に対応するシーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報を取得する。このために、映像関連情報提示装置には、シーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報を取得するための手順を予め設定しておくことができる。例えば、再生が指示された該映像に対応するシーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報は、該映像リソースファイルが存在するフォルダと同じフォルダ内に所定のファイル名で保持されるという規則を設定しておき、この規則に基づいて、映像関連情報提示装置の制御手段３が、必要なシーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報を特定し、これらを取得する。

また、あるいは、シーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報を一つにまとめた映像メタ情報ファイルを構成し、該映像メタ情報ファイル内に、対応する映像を特定するための情報を記述しておく。そして、視聴者は、前記のように構成された映像メタ情報ファイルを、映像関連情報提示装置に取り込むことによって、該映像メタ情報ファイル内に記述された映像を特定するための情報によって特定される映像の再生を指示するという手順を取ることができる。この手順の場合には、映像関連情報提示装置の制御手段３には、視聴者によって特定の映像の再生が指示されると同時に、該映像メタ情報ファイルの形式でシーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報が取得される。

いずれにせよ、上述した手順などにより、本映像関連情報提示装置において、映像再生が開始される時点においては、映像関連情報提示装置の制御手段３は、再生する映像に対応するシーン構造情報および関連情報リンク情報を保持する。

関連情報を提示する際には、映像再生を一時停止する場合がある。一つの関連情報の提示方法では、映像再生を一時停止し、図５に示すように、映像表示手段１が提供する映像表示のための領域において関連情報を提示するよう動作することができる。この場合、視聴者が関連情報の提示の終了を指示した時点で、関連情報の提示を取りやめるとともに、再び、映像表示手段１に、映像を表示し、一時停止を解除して再生を開始するよう動作することができる。

また、一方の関連情報の提示方法では、映像再生を一時停止せずに、映像表示手段１が提供する映像表示のための領域とは別に、新たに関連情報を提示するための領域を構築し、新たに構築された領域において関連情報を提示することができる。後者の方法に関して、いわゆるマルチウィンドウのデスクトップＧＵＩを提供するＯＳ上で動作するソフトウェアアプリケーションプログラムとして該映像関連情報提示装置が実装されている場合には、新たに構築する関連情報の提示のための領域は、ＧＵＩ上に新たに構築されるウィンドウとすることができる。
