【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、エンジンの排ガスの一部を吸気マニホールドに還流ガスとして還流させる排ガス還流管と、還流ガスを水冷却させるEGRクーラーと、還流ガス量を制御する還流制御(EGR)弁、とを備えているEGR装置のEGRクーラーの水洩れ検出装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
図5において、従来の排ガス還流(EGR)装置の配置の一例を示している。エンジンEの排ガスGeの一部は、排気マニホールドEmから分岐されて還流ガスとなり、第1のEGR管2、第1のEGR管2に装着されたEGR弁4V、水冷のEGRクーラー1及び第2のEGR管3、を介して吸気マニホールドImに還流され、新吸入空気Aiと混合されてエンジンEに再度吸気されるようになっている。

この還流ガスの経路において、EGRクーラー1に水洩れが発生すると、水分と還流ガスとは一体になってエンジンEに吸入される。そして、エンジンEに吸入される水分の量が所定値以上では、不整燃焼にとどまらずエンジンEの破損にいたってしまう。

EGRクーラーの水洩れの検出については、特開平10ー169514で開示されて知られているが、エンジン破損回避の手段についてはまだ確定した方法及び装置は知られてはいない。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
本発明は上述した従来技術の問題点に鑑みて提案されたものであり、EGRクーラーの水洩れについて検出すると共に、その検出結果をエンジンの破損回避に活かすEGRクーラーの水洩れ検出装置の提供を目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明によれば、エンジンの排ガスの一部を吸気マニホールドImに還流ガスとして還流させる排ガス還流管2、3と、還流ガスを水冷却するEGRクーラー1と、還流ガス量を制御する還流制御弁4または14とで構成されたEGR装置Erにおける前記EGRクーラー1の水洩れ検出装置において、前記排ガス還流管2または3に水分検出装置5を設け、その水分検出装置5と還流制御装置6とを第3の信号線12を介して接続し、さらにその還流制御装置6と、警告装置8、前記還流制御弁14、およびエンジン始動装置とをそれぞれ第1、第2、および第3の制御線7、11、13を介して接続し、その還流制御装置6が、エンジンが運転中であるか否か判断し、運転中であれば水分検出装置5の検出信号から水洩れありと判断された場合に還流制御弁4を閉止し、かつ警告装置8を作動し、また運転停止中であれば水分検出装置5の検出信号から水洩れありと判断された場合にエンジン始動装置に対して再始動の禁止をさせ、かつ警告装置8を作動する制御機能を有している。

ここで上記の水分検出装置は、温度センサーでもグロープラグでも良く、温度センサーの場合は排ガス温度の低下を検出し、グロープラグでは水分による電気抵抗の変化によって水洩れを検出するのが好ましい。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、添付図面を参照して、本発明のEGRクーラーの水洩れ検出装置の実施の形態を説明する。
図1は、EGRクーラー1の水洩れ検出装置5と還流制御装置6を含む全体構成のブロック図を示している。

EGR装置Erの基本的構成は、図5に示したEGR装置Erの従来構成と同じである。
そのEGR装置Erの排ガス還流管の1部である第1のEGR管2にEGR弁4と水分検出装置5が装着されている。水分検出装置5は、例えば、還流ガスの温度を検出する温度センサであっても、ガス中の水分による電気抵抗の変化を検出して測温するグロープラグであっても良い。

そのEGR弁4は第2の制御線11で還流制御装置6に接続され、水分検出装置5は第3の信号線12で還流制御装置6に接続されている。

還流制御装置6は、第1の制御線7を介して警告ランプ8に接続され、また第1の信号線9でエンジン負荷を受信し、第2の信号線10でエンジン回転速度を受信し、第3の制御線13で図示しないエンジンの始動装置の制御部に送信するよう接続されている。そして、各信号線9、10、12から受信して、内部に保有する各種データにもとづき演算検討して各制御線7、11、13を介して制御信号を送信するよう構成されている。

図1及び図2で示す様な構成のEGR装置Erにかかわる水分検出の方法を、図3のフローチャートによって説明する。

ステップS1は、エンジン運転状態確認工程であって、運転状態にあるか(YES)停止状態にある(NO)かを第2の信号線10からのエンジン回転速度信号によって確認する。
YESであれば、ステップS2で水分検出装置5によって水洩れを検出し(水洩れ検出工程)、ステップS3で水洩れの有無を確認する。水洩れがなければ、ステップS2に戻って常時、水洩れを検出監視する。水洩れが発生していれば、ステップS4に行く。

ステップS4では、還流制御装置6の指示によってEGR弁4を閉止してそれまで作動していたEGR作動を停止させる。と、同時に警告ランプ8を点灯させて、オペレーターに水洩れを警告する。このステップS4が、還流停止工程である。そして、ステップS1にもどる。
これによって、EGR作動を停止させるが、車両の路上故障等の緊急事態をさけ、取りあえずの運行を行うことができる。

ステップS1において、NOのエンジン運転停止状態の場合は、ステップS5が水洩れ検出工程で、水洩れ検出を水分検出装置5で検出し、ステップS6で水洩れの有無を確認する。水洩れがなければ、ステップS5に戻って常時水洩れを検出監視する。水洩れが発生していれば、ステップS7に行く。

ステップS7では、還流制御装置6の指示によってエンジン再始動の禁止をさせる。具体的には、第3の制御線13を介して燃料供給装置からの燃料噴射を禁止させる。また、スタータ等の図示しないエンジン始動装置によるエンジン始動を禁止させる。これが始動禁止工程である。同時に、EGR弁4を閉止し、また警告ランプ8を点灯させて、オペレーターに水洩れを警告する。これが還流停止工程である。
このステップS7よって、エンジン停止中にEGRクーラー1から水洩れして溜まった水を吸気マニホールドImに送りこみ、かつエンジン始動〜運転させる危険を防止する。

ステップS11において、NOのエンジン運転停止状態の場合は、ステップS15で水洩れ検出を水分検出装置5で検出し(水洩れ検出工程)、ステップS16で水洩れの有無を確認する。水洩れがなければ、ステップS15に戻って常時、水洩れを検出監視する。水洩れが発生していれば、ステップS17に行く。

ステップS17では、還流制御装置16の指示によってEGR弁14を閉止してEGR作動不可にする。と同時に警告ランプ8を点灯させて、オペレーターに水洩れを警告する(還流停止工程)。そして、ステップS18に行く。

ステップS18では、運転再開に対する処置を行っている。即ち、EGRクーラー1からの水洩れがあっても、取りあえずの運転が必要であれば、EGR弁14が閉止されて吸気マニホールドImに水分は送り込まれないので、運転可能である。その場合には、ステップS19でエンジン始動〜運転をする。これによってEGR作動は停止させるが、車両の路上故障等の緊急事態をさけ、取りあえずの運行等を行うことができる。

【発明の効果】
本発明の作用効果を、以下に列記する。
(1) 本発明のEGRクーラーの水洩れ検出方法及び装置によって、運転中にEGRクーラーからの水洩れが発生した場合は、EGR弁を閉止してエンジンへの水の流入を防止し、警告ランプ点灯でオペレータに警告し、取りあえづの運転を継続させることができる。しかし、エンジン停止後のエンジン再始動を禁止してエンジン故障の発生を予防する。
(2) 第2の発明によれば、EGR弁がEGRクーラーより吸気マニホールド側に装着されているので、EGRクーラーから水洩れしてもエンジンに流入する懸念がない。従って、EGR弁を閉止することで、取りあえずのエンジン運転と、さらにはエンジン再始動と再運転ができる。
