【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a semiconductor laser element and an optical element, particularly a semiconductor laser element and an optical element having an optical waveguide formed by irradiating a laser beam in silicone oil to grow a light-transmitting material on the optical path. The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a waveguide.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, optical waveguides are widely used in various applications due to the development of optical communication networks. Conventionally, an optical waveguide is generally used which is configured by forming an optical waveguide material such as SiO 2 in a predetermined shape on a substrate.
Recently, a method of forming a self-forming waveguide by irradiating light in a photo-curing resin mixture with an optical fiber has been considered and studied.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the optical waveguide formed on the substrate is manufactured separately from, for example, a laser element that is a light emitting element and an optical fiber that is a typical optical transmission path, and is combined with the laser element and the optical fiber after manufacturing. As a result, there is a problem that the number of processes increases.
Furthermore, the waveguide formed by the method of irradiating light with an optical fiber in a photo-curing resin mixture is not transparent for light of blue and shorter wavelengths, and its application is relatively long wavelength light. There was a problem that it was limited.
[0004]
Therefore, the present invention provides a waveguide material that is transparent (can be guided) with respect to light having a shorter wavelength than a waveguide configured using a conventional photocurable resin, and an optical waveguide using the waveguide material is applied. and purpose thereof is to provide a method of manufacturing a semiconductor laser element and the optical element and the optical waveguide with.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a semiconductor laser device according to the present invention is a semiconductor laser device having an optical waveguide on an emission end face, and the semiconductor laser device has an oscillation wavelength from a blue region to an ultraviolet region. The optical waveguide is grown on the emission end face by causing the semiconductor laser element to oscillate in a silicone oil selected from the group consisting of dimethyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, and their fluorine-modified silicone oil. to become Te said.
[0012]
An optical element according to the present invention is an optical element comprising a semiconductor laser element and an optical transmission path for transmitting laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser element,
The semiconductor laser element has an oscillation wavelength in a blue region to an ultraviolet region,
The emitting portion of the semiconductor laser element and the optical transmission line are connected by an optical waveguide, and the optical waveguide is selected from the group consisting of dimethyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, and fluorine-modified silicone oil thereof. In particular , the semiconductor laser element is formed by guiding a laser beam toward an incident surface of the optical transmission line.
The optical transmission line may be an optical fiber.
[0013]
Method of manufacturing an optical waveguide according to the present invention comprises a base plate and a semiconductor laser device and the optical transmission line the oscillation wavelength is in the ultraviolet region from the blue region, emission surface and the incident surface of the light transmission path of the semiconductor laser element A first step of arranging so as to face each other,
A second step of filling a silicone oil selected from the group consisting of dimethyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil and their fluorine-modified silicone oil between the semiconductor laser element and the optical transmission line;
And a third step of continuously irradiating the laser beam of the semiconductor laser element toward the optical transmission line.
[0014]
In the method for manufacturing an optical waveguide according to the present invention, in the third step, the laser beam of the semiconductor laser element is irradiated toward the optical transmission path, and light is emitted from the optical transmission path toward the semiconductor laser element. Irradiation can also be performed.
As described above, when the waveguide is formed from both the semiconductor laser element side and the optical transmission line side, the light is concentrated in the higher refractive index, so that an optical waveguide having a high refractive index is grown from both sides. By doing so, an effect of attracting each other can be expected even if the optical axis is slightly deviated.
Further, the time can be shortened by forming the waveguide from both the semiconductor laser element side and the optical transmission line side.
[0015]

However, examples of silicone oils suitable for the present invention include dimethyl silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, and fluorine-modified silicone oils thereof. Among them, when dimethyl silicone oil is used, the growth rate of the optical waveguide material is high. It is preferable because a long material can be grown in a relatively short time.

Such a semiconductor laser device having an oscillation wavelength in the blue region or shorter wavelength (UV) can be realized by adopting a double hetero structure using a nitride semiconductor and using a nitride semiconductor containing In in the active layer.
[0020]
The optical waveguide material manufactured as described above is not only for long-wavelength light but also for blue and lower wavelength light compared to conventional waveguide material manufactured using a photocurable resin. Furthermore, since the transparency is extremely high, an optical waveguide that is excellent as an optical waveguide material and can guide light having a wide wavelength can be configured.
