Description
【0001】
図10において、Red(Y:M=1:1)、Green(Y:C=1:1)及びBlue(C:M=1:1)で示される色度座標は、図9の反射部の色度座標を比較のために再度プロットしたものである。
【0100】
つまり、図10のRed(Y:M=1:2)、Green(Y:C=1:1)及びBlue(C:M=3:1)の色度座標から構成される破線で示される三角形の内側の色度座標の色を表現することができる。
【0103】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device and an electrode substrate, and more particularly to a reflection / transmission liquid crystal display device and a method for manufacturing an electrode substrate.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, liquid crystal display devices characterized by low power consumption, low voltage operation, light weight, thinness, color display, and the like are rapidly expanding their applications to information equipment and the like.
[0003]
Since the liquid crystal display device is not a self-luminous display device that emits light by itself, it is necessary to display by supplying light. The liquid crystal display device is classified into a transmission type and a reflection type depending on the light supply method. In a transmissive liquid crystal display device, a backlight such as a fluorescent tube is disposed behind the liquid crystal display device, and display is performed based on light incident from the backlight. In the reflective liquid crystal display device, display is performed based on light reflected by the reflective layer from outside light.
[0004]
In a transmissive liquid crystal display device, since display is performed using a backlight, a bright and high-contrast display can be performed, but there is a disadvantage that power consumption is large. In addition, since a reflective liquid crystal display device does not use a backlight, power consumption can be extremely reduced, but there is a drawback in that display characteristics greatly affect the usage environment such as ambient brightness.
[0005]
Therefore, a reflection / transmission type liquid crystal display device (hereinafter also referred to as a semi-transmission type liquid crystal display device) having both functions of reflection and transmission has been developed. This transflective liquid crystal display device has a structure in which a reflection portion through which reflected light of external light is transmitted and a transmission portion through which light from a backlight is transmitted are formed for each pixel.
[0006]
For example, when the usage environment is completely dark, display is performed using the transmitted light from the backlight using the transmission unit. When the usage environment is dim, display is performed using both the transmitted light from the backlight and the reflected light from the outside light using both the transmissive part and the reflective part. Further, when the external light is sufficiently bright, the display is performed using the reflected light of the external light. As described above, in the transflective liquid crystal display device, a liquid crystal image can be displayed using any one of a reflection type, a transmission type, and a reflection / transmission type display method.
[0007]
In a color display type transflective liquid crystal display device, pixels that are display units in three pixel portions (sub-pixels) of a red (R) pixel portion, a green (G) pixel portion, and a blue (B) pixel portion are arranged. Constitute. Therefore, the color display type transflective liquid crystal display device includes a red (R) filter layer at positions corresponding to the red (R) pixel portion, the green (G) pixel portion, and the blue (B) pixel portion, A color filter having a green (G) filter layer and a blue (B) filter layer is provided.
[0008]
In a conventional color filter for a transflective liquid crystal display device, each color pixel portion is composed of a filter layer of the same color (R, G or B), and this filter layer is composed of a transmission portion and a reflection portion. The color filter performs color display based on the fact that the light from the backlight is transmitted through the transmissive part of the color filter and the reflected light from the external light is transmitted through the reflective part of the color filter.
[0009]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional color filter for a transflective liquid crystal display device, the reflection part transmits twice when external light is incident and is reflected and emitted, and the transmission part transmits light from the backlight. Therefore, there is a problem that the color purity is greatly reduced while displaying with transmitted light is brightened.
[0010]
Further, since the transflective liquid crystal display device is mainly used as a small-sized and light-weight liquid crystal display device such as a portable one, a white LED with a blue LED may be used as a backlight. In this case, when color display is performed, the display becomes strong blue. Therefore, a color filter capable of correcting the color display with strong blue by changing the color tone is desired.
[0011]
In JP-A-2000-111902, by providing a part where the color filter is not formed in a part of the color filter part of the reflection part, the color at the reflection part is lightened, but on the other hand, the brightness is reduced. It is described to improve. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-166286 discloses that a transparent layer is provided in a portion corresponding to a color filter portion of a reflective portion, and a colored layer is formed thereon, thereby changing the thickness of the colored layer of the reflective portion to a transmissive portion. It is described that the brightness of the reflective portion is improved by making the thickness of the colored layer thinner.
[0012]
However, although all of these methods have the effect of improving the brightness by lowering the color density at the reflecting portion, it is difficult to change the color tone of the color filter.
[0013]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and has a color filter and a liquid crystal display device capable of performing a very bright color display and obtaining a desired color tone while having high color purity. The purpose is to provide.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problems, the present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device, and includes a reflective layer having an opening in a required portion for each pixel and a reflective portion formed on the reflective layer. A color filter including a transmissive part that transmits light of the color and a reflective part that transmits light reflected by the reflective layer of external light, wherein the transmissive part includes yellow (Y), magenta (M), and A filter layer having a combination of two colors selected from the group of cyan (C) is laminated, and each of the filter layers having the same color combination as the two colors is a single layer. And the transmissive part includes the color filter disposed corresponding to the opening of the reflective layer, and a first transparent electrode formed above the color filter. A first electrode substrate and the first electrode substrate; Between the first electrode substrate and the second electrode substrate, the second electrode substrate provided with a second transparent electrode on the first electrode substrate side, which is disposed to be bonded with a gap And a sandwiched liquid crystal layer.
[0015]
The first electrode substrate of the liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a reflective layer, a color filter, and a first transparent electrode. In the color filter of the liquid crystal display device of the present invention, three complementary colors (yellow) are transmitted in the transmission portion of one pixel portion (red (R) pixel portion, green (G) pixel portion or blue (B) pixel portion) of the color filter. A filter layer of a combination of two colors of color (Y), magenta color (M), and cyan color (C)) is laminated, and when the light from the backlight part passes through the multilayer filter By subtractive color mixing of the two colors, one of the three primary colors (red (R), green (G), blue (B)) is obtained.
[0016]
On the other hand, in the reflection part of the color filter, the filter layers of the same color as the two color filter layers stacked on the transmission part are each formed as a single layer. Then, the reflected light of the outside light is transmitted through the filter layers of two colors formed by this single layer to emit light of two colors, and these colors are added and mixed, and the three primary colors (red ( R), green (G), and blue (B)).
[0017]
In this way, in one pixel portion of the color filter, light from the backlight portion is transmitted through the transmissive portion and the color purity is high, and a bright color is obtained. The reflected light passes through two different color single-layer filter layers of the thin film, and these two colors are added and mixed to obtain a very bright color.
[0018]
In addition, the color tone can be easily changed by appropriately changing the area ratio of the single-layer filter layers of two different colors formed in the reflective portion. Thereby, the white balance of the transmission part and the reflection part can be made different from each other.
[0019]
In the above-described color filter, the reflection portion may have a white portion where a part of the filter layer of at least one of the two color combination filter layers is not formed.
[0020]
In this case, the color of the light emitted from the color filter layer of the reflecting portion and the white color of the light emitted from the white portion are mixed to obtain a brighter color.
[0021]
In the color filter described above, the reflection portion may further include a structure in which filter layers of the combination of the two colors are stacked. That is, a laminated portion such as a transmissive portion may be provided in a part of the reflective portion. In this case, although the brightness becomes darker, the color purity can be improved.
[0022]
Further, in the color filter described above, the reflection part is constituted by a first reflection part and a second reflection part sandwiching the transmission part, and among the filter layers of a combination of two colors stacked on the transmission part, It is preferable that the filter layer of one color extends to the first reflection part and the filter layer of the other color extends to the second reflection part.
[0023]
By adopting such a structure, the yellow (Y) filter layer, the magenta (M) filter layer, and the cyan (C) filter layer are patterned once in a predetermined portion, so that each pixel unit In the transmission part, it is possible to easily obtain a structure in which filter layers of two predetermined colors are stacked in the transmission part, and filter layers of two predetermined colors are formed as single layers in the reflection part.
[0024]
That is, the color filter of the present invention can be easily manufactured by patterning the three color filter layers, although the color display is performed using six different colors.
[0025]
In addition, when the reflective portion of the color filter of the present invention has a structure sandwiching the transmissive portion, the liquid crystal is formed by bonding the first electrode base material and the second electrode base material provided with the color filter of the present invention together. When a display device is manufactured, there is no problem in the display characteristics of the liquid crystal display device, even if the accuracy related to the alignment of the two electrode base materials is relatively low.
[0026]
In addition, the liquid crystal display device provided with the color filter of the present invention is preferably manufactured based on the use of an electrode substrate in which the color filter of the present invention is formed on a plastic film by a transfer technique. . By using the transfer technique, it is possible to easily manufacture a transflective liquid crystal display device using a plastic film provided with the color filter of the present invention as an electrode substrate without limiting the manufacturing conditions.

(Manufacturing method of transflective liquid crystal display device provided with color filter of embodiment)
11 to 13 are partial cross-sectional views illustrating a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device including a color filter according to an embodiment of the present invention.
[0113]
When manufacturing color filters and liquid crystal display devices using plastic film as a base material, considering the manufacturing process, high-temperature processing cannot be performed from the viewpoint of heat resistance of plastic film. It is difficult to form a film directly on a film.
[0114]
In the case of manufacturing a transflective liquid crystal display device, the transparent electrode (ITO film) has a larger coefficient of thermal expansion than the plastic film. In addition, it is difficult to form them directly on the plastic film while accurately aligning the transparent electrodes and the like with each other.
[0115]
In view of the above-described problems, the liquid crystal display device according to the present embodiment is preferably manufactured by the following manufacturing method.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, a filter of a combination of two colors of complementary colors (Y, M, C) is laminated on the transmission part of one pixel part of the color filter of the present invention, and light from the backlight part is transmitted. When passing through the multilayer filter, the two colors become one of the three primary colors (red (R), green (G), and blue (B)) by subtractive color mixing. In addition, the reflective part is formed with a single layer of filter layers of two colors of the same color as the transmissive part, and the reflected light of the external light is transmitted through the filter layers of the two colors, and the two colors of light are transmitted. The two colors are added and mixed, resulting in substantially the same color as the light in the transmission part.
[0158]
By doing so, in one pixel portion of the color filter, light from the backlight portion is transmitted through the transmissive portion and color purity is high and a bright color is obtained. At the same time, reflection of external light is also performed at the reflective portion. The light passes through the two-color single-layer filter layers of the thin film, and the two colors are added and mixed to obtain a very bright color. In addition, the color tone can be easily changed by appropriately changing the area ratio of the two-color single-layer filter layers formed in the reflective portion.
