【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a foldable mobile phone and a character input mode switching method thereof, and more particularly, to a foldable mobile phone and a character input mode switching method thereof that switch a character input mode in accordance with a relative angle of a casing.
[0002]
[Prior art]
With the rapid spread of mobile phones, the contents of telephone terminals themselves have become more sophisticated, screen displays have been provided, and functions such as multiple call modes and multiple call incoming modes have been added. However, although there is a strong demand for downsizing, there is a limit to reducing the size of the key that must be adjusted to human fingers. The problem is how to solve the demand for increasing the size and weight of the telephone.
[0003]
On the other hand, the mobile phone itself has changed from the conventional integrated type to the folding type in response to the demand for small size. Therefore, an attempt to detect the opening / closing of the fold and use it for switching the mode in the telephone function has been made. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-127855 provides a hinge portion between the first casing and the second casing of the mobile phone. An open / close angle detection device is disclosed, and a mobile phone that uses the open / close angle detection device to switch a plurality of voice communication modes to a normal call mode, a hands-free call mode, or a non-call mode is disclosed.
[0004]
In Japanese Patent Application No. 2002-082731, detection means for detecting the closed state and the fully open state of the first housing and the second housing is provided, or rotation in which the resistance value changes in response to a change in angle. An angle detection means that detects the angle using a variable resistance element or a switch that changes the contact position of the electrode in multiple stages in conjunction with the change of the angle is provided, and the incoming call operation in the telephone function is set as a ring tone, a vibrator, or both A foldable mobile phone that can be switched to inform the user, switch the screen display to the standby screen display and time display, switch the backlight on, or switch the incoming call response function to incoming call answer, incoming call disconnect, or answer hold It is disclosed.
[0005]
However, only the function related to the telephone is the target to be switched according to the open / closed state of the first casing and the second casing.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since the so-called i-mode character information service has recently started to be provided to mobile phones, the use of mobile phones has spread from voice transmission to information acquisition via the Internet, and the transmission of e-mail has expanded rapidly. I have done it.
[0007]
Therefore, it is necessary to input characters including Japanese input. On the other hand, it is difficult to add a key for inputting characters due to the demand for miniaturization. And a desired character is input by this continuous keystroke.
[0008]
FIG. 6 is a schematic key layout diagram of a keyboard in a conventional cellular phone having a telephone mode and a data processing mode. Although the actual key arrangement and some key functions differ depending on the mobile phone, the function of each key will be described according to this example.
[0009]
The keyboard 600 is composed of 24 keys, and the keys are composed of a control key portion 610 and a data key portion 630. An i-
[0010]
As one of the methods of inputting Japanese kana characters or English alphabets with a small number of keys from a character input keyboard, twelve numeric keys and symbol keys for inputting the telephone number of the data key portion 630 are input. The same key is used as both a numeric key and a character input key by switching the input mode with the
[0011]
For this reason, for kana input, keys are arranged in the order of each line by the arrangement of the known kana 50 syllables. For inputting the English alphabet, alphabets arranged in the well-known ABC order are used. Is assigned to each numeric key. However, since there are about ten numeric keys, a plurality of kana characters or alphabets are overlapped on one key in the key arrangement of FIG. Therefore, since it is necessary to input a plurality of types of characters separately from one key, in the conventional method, different characters are input depending on the number of consecutive keystrokes of the same key. The symbol key [*] 640 and the symbol key [#] 642 are keys for inputting symbols, and in accordance with the number of consecutive keystrokes of the symbol key [*] 640, the next symbol, i.e. A cloud point [°] can be input. Depending on the number of consecutive keystrokes of the symbol key [#] 642, the next symbol, long sound [-], reading [,] punctuation [. ], Midpoint [•], question mark [? ],Exclamation point[! ] Can be entered.
[0012]
In this way, the twelve keys of the data key portion 630 and the

In this example, uppercase / lowercase letters and full-width / half-width letters can be designated by pressing the
[0014]
An object of the present invention is to detect an opening / closing angle between the first casing and the second casing of a folding cellular phone, and to switch the character input mode corresponding to the opening / closing angle without continuously pressing the key. It is to provide a mobile phone to be performed.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The foldable mobile phone of the present invention is
