【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、車両が予め決められた通信エリア内に進入したときに通信エリア毎に対応して設けられた路上通信機との間でデータ通信を行う路車間通信用の光通信ユニットに関する。

【従来の技術】
路車間通信用車載端末の一例としてVICS(Vehicle Information and Communication System)サービスを受けるための光ビーコン用車載端末がある。この車載端末は、路上に設置された光ビーコン路上機による通信エリア内に車両が進入したときに、その路上機との間でダウンリンク(受信)→アップリンク(送信)→ダウンリンクからなる一連の基本送受信動作を行うようになっている。つまり、車両が通信エリア内に進入したときには、車載端末は、光ビーコン路上機からの光ビーコンデータのダウンリンクを行い、所定データの受信を確認できたときにダウンリンクを終了して、車両IDや前回通過した通信エリアからの走行時間などの情報を含む光データ信号のアップリンクを複数サイクル実行し、この後に再度ダウンリンク状態に切り替える。光ビーコン路上機側では、車載端末からのアップリンクデータの確認ができたときに、当該車載端末に対して基本的なVICS情報に渋滞情報、通行規制情報などの交通情報を付加したダウンリンク情報を一定時間送信する。

このような光ビーコン用車載端末に設けられる通信ユニットにあっては、従来より、光ビーコン用送受信装置を電波ビーコン用送受信装置と共に収納する本体ケースを設け、この本体ケースを車両のインストルメントパネル上に固定することが行われていた。この場合、光ビーコン用送受信装置の通信方向には強い指向性が存在するため、本体ケースの固定時には、光ビーコン用送受信装置の通信可能方向を予め決められた方位角に調節することが必要となる。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上記従来構成では、インストルメントパネル上に通信ユニットの本体ケースが突出した状態で配置されることになるため、インストルメントパネル周りの意匠性が悪化するという欠点があった。又、外観上などの問題により、その設置場所の自由度が低くなり、この点からもインストルメントパネル回りの意匠性の悪化を招く。さらに、本体ケースの固定時には、光ビーコン用送受信装置の通信可能方向を注意深く調節しなければならず(特に後付する場合)、その取り付け作業性が悪くなるという問題点もあった。

本発明は上記事情を考慮してなされたものであり、取り付け作業性の向上並びに設置場所周り意匠性の向上を図り得るなどの効果を奏する路車間通信用の光通信ユニットを提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
請求項1に記載した手段によれば、光通信ユニットは、車両が予め決められた通信エリア内に進入したときに、路上通信機からの所定のダウンリンクデータを受信し、その受信を確認できたときに当該路上通信機に向けてアップリンクデータを送信し、このアップリンクデータを受信した路上通信機からアンサバックされる交通情報を含むダウンリンクデータを受信するというデータ通信を行う。このようなデータ通信を行う場合、最初にダウンリンクデータを受信する必要性があると共に、ダウンリンクデータの情報量がアップリンクデータに比べて大幅に多くなるという事情があるため、上記通信エリアにあっては、ダウンリンクデータを受信するためのダウンリンク領域の範囲が、アップリンクデータを送信するためのアップリンク領域の範囲より広い状態とされるものである。一方、光通信ユニットを車両の所定部位に固定したときには、投光信手段及び受光手段を内蔵した本体ケースが所定部位に形成された穴部へ挿入されて埋設された状態となり、光通信ユニットの設置場所には平面形状が円形状のカバー部材のみが露出した状態となる。このため、光通信ユニットは、その設置状態において全体の突出量が小さくなり、しかも露出部分の平面形状が視覚的な違和感の少ない円形状であるから、設置場所周りの意匠性を向上させ得る。又、光通信ユニットの固定時において本体ケースを穴部へ挿入する際には、位置決め手段によって光通信ユニットの通信可能方向が予め決められた方位角となるように位置決めされるから、通信可能方向を予め決められた方位角に調節する作業が不要になり、その取り付け作業性が向上する。この場合、上述したように、ダウンリンク領域がアップリンク領域より広いという背景があるため、受光手段の指向角を投光手段の指向角より広くする必要があるが、それら投光手段及び受光手段は、本体ケース内に傾斜状に配置された基板上に、受光手段が投光手段より上方の位置となるように上下方向に並べた状態で実装されているから、そのような必要性に対応できるようになる。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明をVICS用の光ビーコン車載端末に適用した一実施例について図1乃至図6を参照しながら説明する。
図5及び図6には、VICSにおいて、車両Aの例えばインストルメントパネル上に設置された光ビーコン車載端末用通信ユニット1と、道路B上に設置された光ビーコン路上機2(路上通信機、光ビーコン、路側光通信機)との間で双方向通信を行う場合の原理図が模式的に示されている。

具体的には、図3に示すように、インストルメントパネル16上には、本体ケース5を挿入するための穴部19が形成されている。この穴部19は、本体ケース5の外形に沿った矩形状となっており、特に、フロントガラス17寄りの縁部には本体ケース5側の突条部14が嵌まり込む位置決め用切欠部19aが形成されている。穴部19のレイアウトは、本体ケース5を位置決め状態で挿入した状態において、送受信装置6の指向角度範囲と対応した通信可能方向が、光ビーコン路上機2との間で光通信が可能な方位角となるように予め設計的に設定される。光通信ユニット1をインストルメントパネル16に固定する際には、突条部14を本体ケース5の適正な取り付け方向を示す目印として利用し、その突条部14を前方に向けた状態で穴部19に挿入する。これにより、本体ケース5は、突条部14が位置決め用切欠部19aに嵌まり込んだ状態で穴部19内に容易に挿入される。つまり、本体ケース5とカバー部材7とよりなる本体構造体は、部分的に埋設された状態となる。尚、本体ケース5の挿入過程において、その両側面に形成された係合爪部15は、穴部19の縁部により押圧されて弾性変形すると共に、本体ケース5が穴部19内に完全に挿入されたときに復帰変形するものであり、これにより係合爪部15の係合部15bが穴部19の縁部に下方から当接し、以て本体ケース5の抜止めが行われる。

上記した本実施例の構成によれば、以下に述べるような作用・効果を奏することができる。
光通信ユニット1は、LED8及びPD9よりなる送受信装置6を備え、インストルメントパネル16上に光ビーコン路上機2との間で光通信が可能な状態で固定されるから、VICSサービスなどのような光ビーコン信号を使用した通信システムに容易に適用できる。このように光通信ユニット1を車両のインストルメントパネル16に固定したときには、送受信装置6を内蔵した本体ケース5がインストルメントパネル16に形成された穴部19へ挿入されて埋設された状態となり、その光通信ユニット1の設置場所には平面形状が円形状のカバー部材7のみが露出した状態となる。このため、光通信ユニット1は、その設置状態において全体の突出量が小さくなり、しかも露出部分(カバー部材7)の平面形状が視覚的な違和感の少ない円形状であるから、設置場所周りの意匠性を向上させ得、外観上美観を有するものとなる。さらに、光通信ユニット1の固定時において本体ケース5を穴部19へ挿入する際には、本体ケース5側の突条部14が穴部19側の位置決め用切欠部19aに嵌まり込むことにより光通信ユニット1の通信可能方向が予め決められた方位角となるように位置決めされるから、通信可能方向を予め決められた方位角に調節する作業が不要になり、製造工程においてその取り付け作業性が向上する。
