BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention mainly relates to a high output power amplifier in a mobile phone base station.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, high-power power amplifiers ranging from several tens of watts to several hundreds of watts have been used in digital mobile communication base stations. Such a high output power amplifier uses a push-pull amplifier in which two identical transistors are connected in parallel and signals of opposite phases are added, and a plurality of these are combined in parallel to obtain a high output power. The push-pull amplifier is described on pages 113 to 116 of “Radio Frequency Transistors” by Norm Dye and Helge Granberg and sold by Butterworth / Heinemann. This circuit requires a power distribution and synthesis circuit and an unbalance / balance conversion circuit (balun) for input and output.
[0003]
A conventional high output power amplifier will be described below with reference to FIG. In FIG. 6, 501 is a power n distributor, 502 is a power n combiner, 503 and 504 are n unbalanced / balanced converters (baluns), and 505 is n sets of push-pull amplifiers. A power distribution and synthesis circuit used in this configuration will be described with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8 show a configuration diagram of the Wilkinson power distribution circuit. FIG. 7A shows a general Wilkinson power distribution circuit, in which 601 is an input terminal, 602 is n quarter-wave lines, 603 is n absorption resistors, and 604 is n output terminals. . FIG. 7B is a two-distributed series type that can be configured by a planar circuit, where 605 is an input terminal, 606 is two quarter-wave lines, 607 is an absorption resistor, and 608 is four quarters. A wavelength line, 609 is two absorption resistors, and 610 is four output terminals. 8 is an asymmetrical power distribution type, 611 is an input terminal, 612, 613, 616 and 617 are quarter-wave lines having different characteristic impedances, 614 and 618 are absorption resistors, and 615, 619 and 620 are It is an impedance conversion circuit. The Wilkinson power synthesis circuit is described in “Basics and Applications of Microwave Circuits” on pages 205-210 of Yoshihiro Konishi, General Electronic Publishing, and will not be described in detail here.
[0004]
FIG. 9 shows the configuration of a conventional balun. 701 is an unbalanced terminal, 702 is a quarter-wavelength coaxial line having a characteristic impedance of 50Ω, 703 is an in-phase output terminal, and 704 is a reverse-phase output terminal. The balun is described on pages 179 to 181 of “Radio Frequency Transistors” by Norm Dye and Helge Granberg and sold by Butterworth / Heinemann.
[0005]
With the above configuration, the conventional high output power amplifier combines a plurality of output powers of each unit push-pull amplifier to obtain a large power for base station transmission.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the Wilkinson power distribution circuit shown in FIG. 7A can distribute power evenly to any n pieces at a time, but it is difficult to realize it by a planar circuit. For this purpose, it is common to use the configurations of FIGS. 7B and 8. However, the configuration of FIG. 7B has a problem that the transmission path becomes long and the loss during distribution / combination increases. Had. Furthermore, since it can be distributed only to the power-of-two path, it has a problem that flexibility is low. Further, the configuration of FIG. 8 has a problem that an imbalance occurs in power distribution because the transmission path is different for each output. Moreover, since the balun as shown in FIG. 9 uses a coaxial line, there is a problem that the circuit scale becomes large and miniaturization is difficult.
[0007]
An object of the present invention is to provide a high-output power amplifier capable of reducing the number of parts and greatly reducing the circuit scale in consideration of such conventional problems.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the first aspect of the present invention (corresponding to claim 1) , half of the input signal is output to the in-phase output terminal, and a quarter of the input signal is output to the first and second opposite-phase output terminals. Connected to the first unbalanced / balanced conversion circuit that outputs the output delayed by 180 degrees with respect to the output, and to the first and second antiphase output terminals of the first unbalanced / balanced conversion circuit, the same characteristics are obtained. A first power amplifier circuit having a first power amplifier circuit and a second power amplifier circuit connected to the common-mode output terminal of the first unbalanced / balanced converter circuit, wherein the output power is substantially twice that of the first or second power amplifier circuit; Power amplifier circuit, first and second negative phase input terminals for inputting the outputs of the first and second power amplifier circuits, and an in-phase input terminal for inputting the output of the third power amplifier circuit, respectively. Second unbalanced / balanced conversion for combining and outputting the outputs of the first, second and third power amplifier circuits It is a high output power amplifier and a road.
[0009]
According to a second aspect of the present invention (corresponding to claim 3) , there is provided a power distribution circuit that equally distributes an input signal to at least four outputs, and a high power supply circuit according to the first aspect of the present invention connected to each output terminal of the power distribution circuit. A high-output power amplifier including an output power amplifier circuit and a power combining circuit that has input terminals connected to the outputs of the high-output power amplifier circuits and combines the outputs of the high-output power amplifier circuit.
[0010]
For example, the high-output power amplifier of the present invention comprises a Wilkinson n-distribution / n-combination circuit and a 1-input 1-in-phase-output 2-reverse-phase output balun on a single multi-layer substrate in which a plurality of dielectric plates are stacked.
[0011]
The high output power amplifier of the present invention is realized by connecting a Wilkinson power divider of four or more distributions, which has been difficult to realize in a conventional planar circuit, to a common terminal through a through hole using a multilayer substrate. To do. Further, a balun that has been configured using a coaxial line so far is provided with a coupled line on the upper and lower layers of the strip line using a multilayer substrate to obtain two opposite phase outputs. With this configuration, the power distribution / synthesis circuit and the balun can be formed in one multilayer substrate, and the high-output power amplifier can be greatly reduced in size. In addition, since the balun can extract two opposite-phase outputs, the number of distributions can be reduced, and the circuit scale of the distribution circuit can be reduced. Further, since n distribution and n combination are performed at a time, the loss can be reduced and the efficiency of the power amplifier can be improved.
