BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink jet recording head suitably used for an ink jet recording apparatus such as a printer or a plotter.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a conventional ink jet recording head, for example, a recording head using a piezoelectric vibrator as an electromechanical conversion element, a nozzle plate having a plurality of nozzle openings arranged in a row, and a nozzle opening from a common ink chamber to a nozzle opening. A flow path forming substrate having an ink flow path communicating therewith, and an elastic plate having an elastic film that seals one of the opening surfaces of the pressure chamber and the common ink chamber, and these members are joined in a stacked state. In some cases, a flow path unit is formed and the flow path unit is joined to a case. The flow path forming substrate is manufactured by, for example, etching a silicon wafer. A stainless steel nozzle plate is joined to one surface of the flow path forming substrate, and an elastic plate is bonded to the other surface. It is joined. The elastic plate is composed of a composite plate material in which, for example, a two-layered elastic film composed of an adhesive layer and a resin film is supported by a stainless steel support plate. It serves as both the chamber sealing part and the common ink chamber compliance part.
[0003]
In this ink jet recording head, a series of ink flow paths from a common ink chamber to a nozzle opening through a pressure chamber is formed for each nozzle opening. When ink droplets are ejected from the nozzle openings, the elastic film is deformed by the piezoelectric vibrator to change the volume of the pressure chamber, and the pressure in the pressure chamber is increased or decreased.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Incidentally, in the ink jet recording head having the above-described configuration, a plurality of ink supply ports face the common ink chamber. For this reason, if the pressure chamber is contracted when ink droplets are ejected, a pressure wave (ink jet) is generated from the ink supply port toward the common ink chamber. Here, an ink supply port communicating with each pressure chamber communicates with the common ink chamber. As a result, when a pressure wave coming out of the ink supply port acts on another pressure chamber through another ink supply port, ejection of ink droplets by this pressure chamber becomes unstable.
[0005]
In order to prevent such a problem, it is preferable to set a large compliance for the common ink chamber. On the other hand, from the viewpoint of enhancing the responsiveness of ink droplet ejection, it is preferable to set the compliance of the pressure chamber to be small.
However, in the conventional elastic film, the sealing part of the pressure chamber and the compliance part of the common ink chamber are formed with the same thickness, and the thickness of the elastic film is defined according to the responsiveness of ink droplet ejection. ing. For this reason, in order to obtain the required compliance with respect to the common ink chamber, the area of the compliance portion in the elastic film needs to be made sufficiently large. There was a problem of inhibiting miniaturization.
[0006]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems and maintain a good response of ink droplet discharge while maintaining a large common ink chamber compliance. An object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet recording head that can promote downsizing of the head.

The etching is roughly classified into dry etching and wet etching. Dry etching is a process of selectively etching a portion that has not been masked by exposing a diaphragm that has been masked in an oxidizing atmosphere or an alkaline atmosphere. The wet etching is, for example, a process in which a diaphragm subjected to masking is contacted with a strong alkaline solution such as KOH, and a portion not subjected to masking is selectively etched. Plasma ashing is a process in which an inert gas such as argon (Ar) or helium (He) is turned into plasma by an arc, and this is ejected from a thin nozzle, and unnecessary portions are selectively removed with an ultra-high temperature, high-speed plasma jet. It is. The laser processing is processing for selectively removing a portion to be removed by irradiating a laser beam. The injection process is a process for processing the surface by causing the medium to collide with the workpiece (that is, the elastic plate substrate 2 ') by applying pressure to the medium such as powder or fluid and spraying from the nozzle. For example, there are blast processing and water jet processing. Further, the ultrasonic treatment is a processing for processing by vibrating an abrasive slurry with ultrasonic waves.

In addition, a flexural vibration type piezoelectric vibrator may be used for the electromechanical transducer. This piezoelectric vibrator has a configuration in which a piezoelectric body is sandwiched between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, and the piezoelectric body bends in the electric field direction and changes the volume of the pressure chamber in accordance with a potential difference between the upper electrode and the lower electrode. Furthermore, the electromechanical conversion element is not limited to a piezoelectric vibrator, and may be any element that causes mechanical deformation when a drive signal is applied. For example, the electromechanical conversion element may be a magnetostrictive element.
[0058]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, the present invention has the following effects.
That is, an island part for abutting and fixing the displacement surface of the electromechanical conversion element is provided on the elastic film surface opposite to the pressure chamber, and the area around the island part corresponding to the pressure chamber of the elastic film is provided. An inorganic thin film is formed on the surface of the elastic film so as to cover the island part so that the thickness is larger than that of the part corresponding to the common ink chamber. A thin film is formed on the surface of the film, whereby the bending rigidity of the part can be increased and the compliance can be lowered. Moreover, since an island part is covered with a thin film, the rigidity of this island part can also be improved. Therefore, even when a highly compliant material is used for the elastic film, the responsiveness during ink droplet ejection can be further improved. By using a highly compliant material for the elastic film, the compliance portion can obtain higher compliance than before, so that necessary compliance can be obtained even if the common ink chamber is made small. Accordingly, it is possible to promote the downsizing of the recording head while further improving the responsiveness of ink droplet ejection.
[0059]
In addition, an island portion for abutting and fixing the displacement surface of the electromechanical conversion element is provided on the elastic film surface opposite to the pressure chamber, and the thickness of the portion corresponding to the common ink chamber of the elastic film is set. When an inorganic thin film is formed on the surface of the elastic film so as to cover the island part so as to be thinner than the thickness of the part around the island part corresponding to the pressure chamber, Since a thin film is formed on the surface of the elastic film, the bending rigidity of the part can be increased, and the compliance can be lowered. And since an island part is covered with a thin film, the rigidity of this island part can also be improved. Therefore, the compliance of the portion corresponding to the common ink chamber can be made higher than the portion around the island portion corresponding to the pressure chamber. For this reason, even when a highly compliant material is used for the elastic film, the responsiveness at the time of ink droplet ejection can be further improved. As a result, the compliance portion can obtain higher compliance than before, and necessary compliance can be obtained even if the common ink chamber is formed small. Accordingly, it is possible to promote the downsizing of the recording head while further improving the responsiveness of ink droplet ejection.
[0062]
In addition, when an air shielding layer that prevents the ink solvent from passing through is formed of an inorganic thin film, the thin film layer prevents permeation even if the ink solvent in the pressure chamber attempts to permeate the elastic film. For this reason, an increase in the viscosity of the ink in the pressure chamber can be prevented.
[0063]
Further, when an inorganic thin film is formed by vacuum plating, the inorganic thin film can be easily laminated on a desired portion on the support plate or the elastic film.
[0064]
Further, when an inorganic thin film is formed by a printing method, the inorganic thin film can be easily laminated on a desired portion on the support plate or the elastic film.
