【従来の技術】
原稿画像を読取る画像読取手段と、画像を送信するファクシミリ送信手段と、画像読取手段で読取った画像を記録するコピー手段とを備え、ファクシミリ送信手段とコピー手段とを切り替えて使用する通信端末装置は良く知られている。このような通信端末装置は、一般にオ−トドキュメントフィ−ダ（ＡＤＦ）や、フラットベッドスキャナ（ＦＢＳ）として機能するフラットベッド型の読み取り用原稿載置台が備え付けられている。

このような通信端末装置で原稿をコピ−する場合には、コピー手段の動作モ−ド（コピーモード）に切り替え、コピ−部数や原稿の種類（通常の文字や図形のイメ−ジ情報か写真か）に応じた読み取りモ−ド（解像度）を設定してから、スタ−トボタンを押して原稿の読み取りを開始し、設定したコピー部数記録紙に記録している。一方、ファクシミリ送信する場合には、ファクシミリ通信手段の動作モ−ド（ファクシミリ送信モ−ド）に切り替え、送信する相手先のダイヤル番号、通信時刻、解像度、原稿の読み取り濃度、親展、同報等の応用通信などを適宜設定してから、スタ−トボタンを押して原稿の読み取りを開始し、読取った原稿画像をその相手先に送信している。
