BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a monocular head-mounted display device (hereinafter also referred to as an HMD) that enlarges a virtual image formed by an image display means and presents the image to one of the left and right eyes of a user.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Such a monocular HMD has been proposed because of the necessity of viewing the display image and the outside scene image in parallel, or the necessity of visually viewing the display image mainly using the outside scene image. Expectations are increasing for instruction display for assisting work. In addition, due to the nature of its usage and usage location, there is a demand for dustproof and waterproofing, a demand for an exclusion function that excludes it from the user's field of view when not in use, and a monocular eye for visually recognizing a virtual image. It is required that can be selected.
[0003]
As a monocular HMD satisfying such a function and considered for the same purpose, for example, an HMD described in JP-A-2-63379 is known. This is a display that scans a one-dimensional image from an LED line array with a vibrating mirror and presents a two-dimensional image to the user by utilizing the afterimage effect of the human eye. Further, the display system is held in front of the user's eyes by supporting the side surface of the display system via a support arm extended from the side of the mounting means. Therefore, although the screen size that can be viewed with relatively low resolution is small, the display is extremely small and satisfies all the above requirements.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the above prior art has the following problems.
[0005]
First, switching of the eye for visually recognizing a virtual image by this technique is performed by changing the display system fixed to the wearing means on the head and changing the display direction of the virtual image electrically. Therefore, an extremely troublesome operation such as removing the HMD from the head each time is required when switching the eye for visually recognizing a virtual image.
[0006]
Secondly, the above-mentioned display has a low resolution, and if this is increased in the same manner, SPIE, Vol. 1664, p134-p140, the display system becomes larger, so that the holding method for the current small display system becomes unstable.
[0007]
The head-mounted display device of the present invention solves the above-mentioned problems. The purpose of the display device is, firstly, the image display means, the driving means, and the magnifying optical means are unitized to provide dustproof and waterproof requirements. It is to respond to. Second, by moving the display unit, the HMD can easily switch the eye for visually recognizing a virtual image and eliminate the display unit from the user's front vision while the HMD is mounted on the head. Is to realize. A third object is to realize switching means and exclusion means that can always hold the display unit stably for any of the above operations.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention includes an image display means;
Driving means for driving the image display means;
Magnifying optical means for enlarging a virtual image of the image formed by the image display means;
In a head-mounted display device comprising a virtual image forming unit for storing
Switching means for disposing the virtual image forming unit corresponding to one of the left and right eyes of the user;
Exclusion means for eliminating the virtual image forming unit from the field of view in front of the user;
Mounting means for mounting the virtual image forming unit, the switching means, and the exclusion means on a user's head;
Connecting the virtual image forming unit and the mounting means, and comprising a connecting means comprising the switching means and the exclusion means,
The connecting means includes
It has a tubular shape with a substantially cylindrical cross section,
A first straight portion that has a length equal to or greater than the user's half-eye width and fits with the mounting means;
A second straight line portion having a length equal to or greater than the half-eye width of the user and fitted with the virtual image forming unit;
With
The first straight line part and the second straight line part are both arranged substantially parallel to the user's eye width direction.
[0009]
According to said structure, since the image display means, its drive means, and the expansion optical means were unitized, it is easy to make the housing | casing which accommodates them into a dustproof and waterproof structure. In addition, since the structure is such that the eyes for visually recognizing the virtual image are switched and the virtual image forming unit is excluded from the user's front vision simply by moving the virtual image forming unit, the user can easily perform these operations while wearing the HMD. Can be done.
Furthermore, since the mounting means and the virtual image forming unit can rotate on the corresponding linear portions of the substantially cylindrical cross section, it is attempted to move the virtual image forming unit above the user's head by applying a force to the virtual image forming unit. Then, the connecting means rotates about the first straight line portion and the virtual image forming unit rotates about the second straight line portion. Therefore, when the connecting means rotates exactly 180 degrees, the virtual image forming unit is moved to the original position. It looks like it has moved straight up. Therefore, the virtual image forming unit can be easily excluded from the visual field in front of the user without causing the virtual image forming unit to protrude forward. In addition, since the mounting means and the virtual image forming unit can move on the corresponding straight line portions, a force is applied to the virtual image forming unit in the eye width direction of the user, and the connecting means is connected to the mounting means by the user. By moving in the eye width direction and further moving the virtual image forming unit in the user's eye width direction with respect to the connecting means, the user can simultaneously switch the eye for visually recognizing the virtual image and adjust the eye width. Can do. Furthermore, since the first and second linear portions have a relationship just like a two-stage hinge, the user can easily perform the forward / backward movement of the virtual image forming unit and the visual angle adjustment for viewing the virtual image.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, in the head-mounted display device of the present invention, the image display means, the driving means, and the magnifying optical means are unitized, so that the housing for storing them can be easily made dustproof and waterproof. It is. In addition, since the structure is such that the eyes for visually recognizing the virtual image are switched and the virtual image forming unit is excluded from the user's front vision simply by moving the virtual image forming unit, the user can easily perform these operations while wearing the HMD. Can be done.
[0039]
Further, by configuring the switching means and the exclusion means using a support portion having a rotation shaft parallel to both ends, the forward projection amount of the virtual image forming unit is always constant, and the virtual image forming unit is placed in front of the user. It can be easily excluded from view. Further, when the support unit is rotated 180 degrees, the display direction of the image remains constant, and thus the eye for visually recognizing the virtual image can be easily switched from the right eye to the left eye or from the left eye to the right eye. Furthermore, by adding an eye width adjustment means and an angle adjustment means to this, the user can visually recognize a virtual image in a state adapted to his / her eye width and use state.
[0040]
Further, by configuring the switching means and the exclusion means using the connecting means in which the hinge means and the sliding means are formed, the user can move the connecting means and the virtual image forming unit upward through the hinge means. By rotating, the virtual image forming unit can be easily excluded from the visual field in front of the user, and the angle of the line of sight at which the user views the virtual image can be adjusted by adjusting the rotation angle. At this time, no new forward protrusion of the virtual image forming unit in the excluded state occurs. Further, by sliding the virtual image forming unit in the direction of the eye width of the user via the sliding means, the user can simultaneously perform eye switching and eye width adjustment for visually recognizing the virtual image.
[0041]
Furthermore, by configuring the switching means and the exclusion means using an annular connecting means having two straight portions, the user can also change the HMD by moving or rotating the virtual image forming unit and the mounting means in the straight portions. The eye can be easily switched, the eye width can be adjusted, the angle can be adjusted, and the virtual image forming unit can be eliminated from the front field of view while wearing the head. At that time, no new forward protrusion of the virtual image forming unit in the excluded state occurs.
[0042]
In any of the above-described configurations, since the virtual image forming unit is held at substantially the center of the HMD, the stability in holding is high.
