【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、主として回転角速度を検出するためのジャイロスコープに属されると共に、特に圧電振動子のエネルギー閉じ込め振動モードを利用した圧電振動ジャイロスコープに関する。

【従来の技術】
従来、この種の圧電振動ジャイロスコープ(以下、簡略して圧電振動ジャイロと呼ぶ)は、圧電振動子を一定方向に励振した状態において、圧電振動子がその励振方向に直角な方向の軸の周りに回転した際、励振方向及び回転軸に直角な方向に生ずるコリオリ力を検知することにより回転角速度を検出するもので、種々応用分野が知られており、最近では、例えば自動車のナビゲーションシステムや、VTRカメラの手振れ補正機構等に用いられている。

圧電振動ジャイロとして、例えば特開昭62−162915号や特開平5−322580号には、振動エネルギーが駆動電極近傍に集中しているエネルギー閉じ込め振動モードで振動する圧電振動子を用いたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロが提案されている。

このようなエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロは、振動エネルギーが圧電振動子の局部に集中しているので、圧電振動子の支持が簡単容易であり、遊離しているリード線が不要となるという利点がある。

特開昭62−162915号では、振動エネルギーを局部に閉じ込めるために、振動子の厚みを局部的に厚く形成し、その部分を厚み方向に分極し、厚い局部の対向端面に駆動電極を設け、対向側面に検出電極を設けたものを開示している。また、他の例として、駆動電極と検出電極とを圧電板の一面に設け、駆動電極間に検出電極として交差指電極を設けたものを開示している。

特開平5−322580号では、圧電板の一部領域を厚み方向に分極し、その分極領域の主面上に2組の対向電極を、対向方向を直角にして設け、一方の対向電極を駆動電極に、他方の対向電極を検出電極とした圧電振動ジャイロを開示している。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上記従来の圧電振動ジャイロでは、圧電板の分極方向と直角の方向に一対の駆動電極で圧電板を励振しておき、分極方向の回転が加わった時、分極方向及び励振方向に直角の方向に生じたコリオリ力による振動を一対の検出電極で検出することにより回転速度を検出しているが、圧電振動ジャイロに対して分極方向の回転以外の加速度が加わると、圧電板の振動に影響を与えてしまい、この結果、検出速度に誤差が生じてしまうという欠点がある。

又、特開昭62−162915号に開示されたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロは、圧電板の厚みを局部的に厚くしなければならないとか、或いは交差指電極を形成しなければならないといった製造上の難点がある。また、一対の駆動電極に対して一対の検出電極が互いに近傍に設けられているので、駆動電極から圧電板内に印加した駆動電界が検出電極に影響され、駆動電界方向が変化することにより精度が低くなってしまうという欠点がある。

更に、特開平5−322580号に開示されたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロは、構成が簡単で製造も容易であるが、一対の駆動電極に対して一対の検出電極が互いに近傍に設けられているので、駆動電極から圧電板内に印加した駆動電界が検出電極に影響され、駆動電界方向が変化することにより精度の良い検出出力を得ることが困難であるという欠点がある。

本発明は、このような問題点を解決すべくなされたもので、その技術的課題は、簡単な小型構造で圧電振動板に加わる加速度の影響を受けずに高精度に検出し得るエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロを提供することにある。

又、本発明の他の技術的課題は、圧電板の主面の限定された領域において、出力電極を駆動電極の一部に共用することによって、出力電極が駆動電界に悪影響を与えないようにしたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロを提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明によれば、圧電板の厚み方向に分極を有する領域の主面上に駆動用電極の対と検出用電極の対とを形成し、該駆動用電極の対を用いて分極方向と垂直方向の該主面と平行な方向に電界を印加して該圧電板における所定の方向に厚みすべり振動を励起すると共に、該検出用電極の対を用いてコリオリ力により生じる該所定の方向と垂直な方向の厚みすべり振動を検出するように構成したエネルギー閉じ込め振動を利用した圧電振動ジャイロであって、圧電板における一方の主面上には、駆動用電極及び検出用電極から成る第1の電極の組が形成されていると共に、厚み方向で一方の主面とは反対側の他方の主面上には、該駆動用電極及び該検出用電極から成る第2の電極の組が第1の電極の組と面対称に対向する位置に形成されており、第1の電極の組及び第2の電極の組にあっての厚み方向で対向する電極同士は、電気的に導通接続されて成るエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロが得られる。

又、本発明によれば、上記エネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロにおいて、第1の電極の組は、一方の主面上における所定の方向に互いに所定の間隔で離れた二つの位置のうち、一方の位置において該所定の方向と直角の方向に延在させて設けたストリップ状の第1の電極と、他方の位置において該所定の方向とほぼ直角方向に互いに間隔を有するように延在させて設けたストリップ状の第2の電極及び第3の電極とから成り、第2の電極の組は、他方の主面上で第1の電極,第2の電極,及び第3の電極にそれぞれ対向した位置に設けたストリップ状の第4の電極,第5の電極,及び第6の電極から成り、第1の電極,第2の電極,及び第3の電極は、それぞれ対向した第4の電極,第5の電極,及び第6の電極に対して電気的に導通接続されており、更に、第1の電極と第2の電極及び第3の電極との間に励振用の駆動電圧を印加すると共に、該第2の電極及び該第3の電極間に生じるコリオリ力による振動に対応した起電力を検出するようにして、該第1の電極と該第2の電極及び該第3の電極との間に生ずる厚みすべり振動のエネルギー閉じ込めモードを利用したエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロが得られる。

更に、本発明によれば、上記エネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロにおいて、第2の電極,第3の電極は、それぞれ仮想接地機能を備えた第1の電流検出回路,第2の電流検出回路に接続されており、第1の電極に対して励振用の駆動電圧を印加することにより該第1の電流検出回路及び該第2の電流検出回路の出力間に生ずる差電圧から検出出力を得るように構成されたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロが得られる。

加えて、本発明によれば、上記エネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロにおいて、第1の電流検出回路及び第2の電流検出回路の出力間に接続されて該第1の電流検出回路及び該第2の電流検出回路における出力電圧の差を検出するための差動回路と、差動回路出力 に接続された同期検波回路と、同期検波回路の出力に接続された整流回路と、第1の電流検出回路及び第2の電流検出回路の出力間に接続されて自励振駆動用周波数の信号を発振するための発振回路と、発振回路の出力に接続されて自励振駆動用周波数の交流電圧を第1の電極に印加する駆動回路とを備えたエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロが得られる。

【発明の実施の形態】
図1は、本発明の一つの実施の形態に係るエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動ジャイロに備えられる圧電振動子1の基本構成を示す外観斜視図である。図1を参照すれば、この圧電振動子1は、例えばPZTやチタン酸バリウム等の圧電セラミックス板を用いると共に、中央部が厚み方向に分極軸を有する圧電板10から成る。この圧電板10の中央部の一方の主面(表面)上にストリップ状の第1の電極11が設けられ、且つ第1の電極11と所定の距離だけ離れた位置において、第1の電極11と平行に第2の電極12及び第3の電極13が互いに離れて形成されている。これらの第1の電極11,第2の電極12,第3の電極13には、それぞれ外部に導出するための端子部14,15,16が接続されている。

又、圧電板10の他方の主面(裏面)には、同様のストリップ状の第4の電極21,第5の電極22,第6の電極23が第1の電極11,第2の電極12,第3の電極13に対向するように面対称形で設けられている。これらの第4の電極21,第5の電極22,第6の電極23についても、それぞれ外部に導出するための端子部24,25,26が接続されている。

尚、これらの電極11〜13,21〜23及び端子部14〜16,24〜26は、銀ペースト又は金スパッタで構成される場合を例示できる以外、他の導電膜を採用することができる。外部に導出するための端子部14〜16,24〜26については、振動子(圧電板10)上に設けずにリード線を用いた構成としても良い。

一方の主面の電極11〜13と他方の主面の電極21〜23とは、それぞれ互いに電気的に導通接続される。この導通接続には、端子部14,15,16と端子部24,25,26とを、それぞれ互いに外部導電体で接続することによって行われ得る。この場合、外部導線を用いる手段を採用すること、圧電板10の側面に表裏の対応する端子部同士(14−24,15−25,16−26)を導通するように導電膜を形成すること、対向する端子部同士(14−24,15−25,16−26)又は対向する電極同士(11−21,12−22,13−23)を接続するスルーホールを圧電板10に設けること、端子部14〜16,24〜26としてリード線を用いた場合に各リード線の対向するものを外部で接続すること等、何れも手法を採用しても良い。

図1に示される例では、圧電板10における厚み方向をZ軸、電極11〜13,21〜23の対向方向をX軸、これらに直交する方向をY軸とする三次元座標を定めている。

そこで、この圧電振動子1の場合、圧電板10における第1の電極11と第2の電極12及び第3の電極13との間(或いは第4の電極21と第5の電極22及び第6の電極23との間)に駆動電圧(交流)を印加すると、X方向の振動が励振される。この状態で圧電板10がZ軸の周りに回転すると、Y方向にコリオリ力による振動が発生し、これにより第2の電極12及び第3の電極13間(或いは第5の電極22及び第6の電極23間)に起電力が発生する。この起電力を検知することによって、コリオリ力による振動の大きさ、即ち、回転角速度を検出することができる。

このとき、圧電板10に外部からZ方向成分を有する加速度が加えられると、圧電板10の振動が影響を受ける。この影響は、圧電板10の表面と裏面とでは、逆位相となるので、表裏面に設けた対向する電極同士(11−21,12−22,13−23)を接続することによって、加速度の影響が相殺される。

以上により、振動エネルギーは圧電板10の中央部に閉じ込められ、周辺に及ばないので、圧電板10の周辺部を支持することが容易となることが判る。尚、上述した各電極11〜13,21〜23について、総括して換言すれば、圧電板10における一方の主面上の各電極11〜13については、後述するように第1の電極11が駆動用電極,第2の電極12及び第3の電極13が検出用電極であって、且つ第1の電極の組として分極領域に形成されており、厚み方向で一方の主面とは反対側の他方の主面上の各電極21〜23については、第4の電極21が駆動用電極,第5の電極22及び第6の電極23が検出用電極であって、且つ第2の電極の組として分極領域に形成されており、更に、第2の電極の組が第1の電極の組と面対称に対向する位置に形成された上、第1の電極の組及び第2の電極の組にあっての厚み方向で対向する電極同士が電気的に導通接続された構成となっている。

図2は、上述した圧電振動子1に接続される電気回路の構成を示した回路ブロック図である。図2を参照をすると、圧電振動子1の第2の電極12,第3の電極13には、それぞれ仮想接地機能を備えた第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32が接続されている。これらの第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32の出力側には、これらの各回路における出力電圧の差を検出するための差動回路33が接続され、差動回路33の出力に接続された同期検波回路34,同期検波回路の出力に接続された整流回路35を介して、圧電振動ジャイロの検出出力が得られる。一方、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32の出力間には、自励発振条件を満たして自励振駆動用周波数の信号を発振するための発振回路36が接続され、発振回路36の出力には自励振駆動用周波数の交流電圧を第1の電極11に印加してX方向に振動を与えるための駆動回路37が接続され、自励発振回路を構成している。この自励発振回路により第1の電極11に対して励振用の駆動電圧が印加(圧電振動子1の厚みすベり振動の共振周波数にほぼ等しい周波数の交流電圧が電極11に印加)され、第1の電流検出回路31及び第2の電流検出回路32の出力間に生ずる差電圧から検出出力を得ることができる。

図3は、図2の電気回路に備えられる第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32の回路構成の具体例を示したものである。この電流検出回路は、第2の電極12,第3の電極13を仮想的に接地させる機能を備えるもので、演算増幅器41の非反転入力端子(+)は基準電圧に接地されており、演算増幅器41の出力端子Voutから反転入力端子(−)iに抵抗器Rが接続されている。反転入力端子(−)iは,演算増幅器の仮想接地機能により常に接地基準電位に保たれる。この反転入力端子(−)iに電流が流入すると、抵抗器Rにより電圧に変換され、出力端子VoutからはVout=−iRなる出力が得られる。即ち、ここでの電流検出回路は、機能的には入力インピーダンスがほぼ0で、入力電流に比例した出力電圧を得ることができるものである。

このような電流検出回路を図2に示した電気回路中の第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32に用いる際、反転入力端子(−)iを第2の電極12,第3の電極13に接続する。これにより、駆動電圧は、第1の電極11と第2の電極12,第3の電極13との間に加わることになり、第2の電極12,第3の電極13間の起電力は、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32の出力間の電位差として検出できることになる。

次に、本発明の上記実施の形態における圧電振動子1の駆動原理を、図面を参照して具体的に説明する。

図4は、図1及び図2に示したエネルギー閉じ込め型圧電振動子1の駆動原理を説明するために電極を単純化した圧電板10の基本構造を示したものであり、同図(a)は平面図に関するもの,同図(b)は同図(a)の端子部を除いて電極部分のみを示した側面断面図に関するものである。図4(a)及び(b)を参照すると、厚さ方向(Z軸方向)に分極された圧電板10の中央部の同一面上には、X軸方向に間隔を持って対向するスリット状の電極D1,D2がY方向に延在して形成され、それらの延在方向とは垂直なX方向の外方に端子部T1,T2が接続されている。ここで、端子部T1,T2間に電圧を印加すると、対向する電極D1,D2の間の圧電板10の領域(電極間領域)には、ほぼ板の面に平行な方向(X方向)の電界が印加されるため、この電界と直交する厚さ方向(Z軸方向)の分極との相互作用により、電極D1,D2間領域にはX方向に歪みが生ずることになる。電極D1,D2の寸法を圧電板10の特性に合わせて設計し、印加電圧を電極D1,D2間領域の共振周波数に合った周波数の交流電圧とすると、電極D1,D2間領域に厚みすべり振動を励起することができる。その振動は電極D1,D2間領域の周囲には減衰して伝搬せずに閉じ込められるので、エネルギー閉じ込め振動子を構成することができる。尚、このときの振動は、圧電板10の面に平行な電界によって生ずる厚みすべり振動であるので、平行電界励振型厚みすべり振動と呼ばれる。因みに、厚みすべり振動とは、圧電板10の変位の方向が板面に平行で、波の伝搬方向が板の厚さ方向の振動である。

図5は、上述した圧電板10における厚みすべり振動の様子を図解するために半波長で共振している場合の厚さ方向(Z軸方向)の変位分布を示したものである。図1及び図2に示した圧電振動子1は、上述した駆動原理を利用したものであり、基本構造上では第1の電極11が電極D1、これと対向する第2の電極12,第3の電極13が電極D2に対応し、電極D2は検出電極を構成するために2分割され第2の電極12,第3の電極13を構成し、それぞれ仮想接地機能を備えた第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32に接続している。これにより、第2の電極12,第3の電極13は、仮想的に基準電位に保たれているから、電位的には接地端子とみなすことができる。従って、第1の電極11に圧電振動子1の厚みすベり振動モードの共振周波数にほぼ等しい周波数の励振用の駆動電圧を印加すると、図4(a),(b)で説明した圧電板10の場合と同様に、第1の電極11と第2の電極12,第3の電極13とによって囲まれる領域(電極間領域)に、第1の電極11の中心と、第2の電極12,第3の電極13の中心を結ぶ直線の中点を結ぶ直線の方向(X方向)のエネルギー閉じ込め振動モードの厚みすベり振動が発生する。

この状態で圧電振動子1をその主面と直交する軸の回りに回転させたると、コリオリ力の作用により、励振されている厚みすベり振動の方向と直角な方向(Y方向)の厚みすベり振動が発生する。このコリオリ力により発生した厚みすベり振動により、第1の電極11及び第2の電極12の間、第1の電極11及び第3の電極13の間のインピーダンスが変化し、その結果として、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32に流れ込む電流値が変化する。第2の電極12,第3の電極13は上述したように、励振されている厚みすベり振動の方向(X方向)に対して対称形に配置されているため、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32に流れ込むコリオリ力による振動により変化する電流は、振幅が等しく、互いに180度位相の異なった電流となる。従って、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32の出力電圧も、互いに180度位相の異なった電圧となり、これらの出力電圧の差を差動回路33により差電圧として検出し、同期検波回路34によってこの電圧を所定のタイミングで同期検波し、整流回路35で整流することにより、印加した回転角速度に比例した直流の出力電圧を検出出力として得ることが出来る。

一方、第1の電流検出回路31,第2の電流検出回路32は自励発振条件を満足するための発振回路36と振動子駆動回路37とを介して第1の電極11に接続され、自励発振ループを構成している。これにより、圧電振動子1の共振周波数を自動的に迫尾して効率良く圧電振動子1を駆動できるため、高感度なジャイロを得ることができる。

上述した例の場合、圧電板10の一方の主面(表面)上における第1の電極11と第2の電極12,第3の電極13とについての動作を述べたが、他方の主面(裏面)上における第4の電極21と第5の電極22,第6の電極23とについても、各電極11〜13と対称形でそれぞ接続されていることにより、一方の主面上の各電極11〜13の場合と同様に機能することになる。

更に、圧電板10に対してZ軸方向の加速度が加わると、この影響で第1の電極11,第2の電極12間のインピーダンス、及び第1の電極11,第3の電極13間のインピーダンスが変化する。ここでのインピーダンス変化が対称であれば、一方の主面側の一組の第1の電極11、第2の電極12及び第3の電極13のみでも、差動増幅回路33において誤差がキャンセルされる筈である。しかしながら、加速度により駆動振動の振幅全体が変化するので、一方の主面側の電極のみでは、キャンセルできず、誤差が残る。これに対して、他方の主面側の裏面上に第4の電極21、第5の電極22及び第6の電極23があると、加速度の影響による裏面の電極間のインピーダンスの変化は、表面の電極間のインピーダンスの変化とは逆位相になるから、表面上の各電極11〜13と裏面上の各電極21〜23との対称形なもの同士を導通接続することによって、逆位相のインピーダンス変化同士が加算されてキャンセルされることになる。これにより、加速度の影響を受けない高精度の圧電振動ジャイロが実現できる。

図6は、図2に示した電気回路に代用される他の回路構成を示した回路ブロック図である。図6を参照すると、第1の電極11を接地し、第2の電極12,第3の電極13間に抵抗R1,R2の直列回路からなる分圧回路を接続し、その分圧電圧で発振駆動回路38を制御する。この発振駆動回路38は、接地されており、これによって第1の電極11と第2の電極12及び第3の電極13との間に駆動電圧が印加される。尚、ここでの発振駆動回路38は、図2に示した電気回路に備えられる発振回路36と駆動回路37とから成るものである。分圧回路の両端は、差動増幅回路33に接続されており、この差動増幅回路33を含め、検波回路34及び整流回路35は、図2に示した電気回路の場合と同様である。

因みに、本発明に用いる圧電板10が「厚み方向の分極を有する」とは、厚み方向にのみ分極されているものに限定するものではなく、厚み方向の分極成分を有するものも含むものとする。勿論、厚み方向の分極成分の大きな方が良いので、厚み方向のみに分極されているものが最も有利である。

圧電板10として圧電セラミックスを用いた場合には、公知のように分極処理を必要とするが、分極領域は、圧電板10の全体に亘っても良いし、振動を閉じ込める領域のみに限っても良い。

圧電板10として、圧電結晶板(例えば水晶、LiNbO3,LiTO3等)を用いることができる。その場合、厚み方向の分極軸を持たせるために、Zカットの板が最も好ましいが、回転Yカットの板を用いることもできる。

【発明の効果】
以上に述べた通り、本発明の圧電振動ジャイロによれば、X方向駆動及びY方向振動検出用の電極の組を圧電板の厚み方向に分極を有する領域の表裏両面に一組づつ表裏対称形となるように設け、表裏の電極組の対応する電極同士を導通接続してY方向振動検出用の電極からY方向振動の出力信号を得るようにしたので、圧電振動子に加速度が加えられたときの振動に対する影響が表裏の電極の導通接続により相殺されることになり、圧電振動子に加わる加速度の影響を複雑な回路を用いることなくキャンセルすることができると共に、表面のみの電極で振動を励振・検出するよりも効率よく電界を生じさせることができ、結果として高い感度のジャイロ特性が得られるようになる。

又、本発明の圧電振動ジャイロの場合、圧電板の表裏両面に配置した1対の対向するスリット状電極のみを用いて駆動を行い、且つ圧電板の表裏両面で2分割されて離間された一対の対向する他の電極(各電極は互いに平行状態となる)を検出電極として検出を行うので、駆動電界が検出電極の存在によって悪影響を受けず、X方向振動を励振するための電界を保ったままY方向振動を検出することができるため、高精度で高感度のジャイロ特性が得られるようになり、しかもエネルギ一閉じ込め振動を用いているために支持が容易で信頼性の高いジャイロ特性が得られるようになる。
