【0001】
【0004】
燃料極 2H2→4H++4e ̄ …(1)
【0070】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fuel cell using a solid polymer as an electrolyte, and in particular, even in a fuel cell that operates with a gas supply in a low or non-humidified state, stable operation is possible without causing deterioration in cell characteristics. In addition, the present invention relates to a fuel cell that can improve power generation efficiency by maintaining a high operating temperature.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A fuel cell is a cell that converts chemical energy possessed by fuel into electrical energy by electrochemically reacting a fuel gas such as hydrogen, which is a reaction gas, and an oxidant gas such as air. The fuel cells are classified into various types depending on the difference in electrolytes, and one of them is a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell using a solid polymer membrane as an electrolyte.
[0003]
In general, the electrode reactions proceeding at both the fuel electrode (anode electrode) and the oxidant electrode (cathode electrode) of the fuel cell are as follows.
[0004]
Fuel electrode 2H 2 → 4H + + 4e ̄ ... (1)
Oxidant electrode 4H + + 4e ̄ + O 2 → 2H 2 O ... (2)
That is, when hydrogen gas is supplied to the fuel electrode, the reaction of Formula (1) proceeds at the fuel electrode to generate hydrogen ions. The generated hydrogen ions permeate (diffuse) through the electrolyte (in the case of a solid polymer electrolyte battery, a solid polymer electrolyte membrane) in a hydrated state and reach the oxidizer electrode. Then, an oxygen-containing gas such as air is supplied to the oxidizer electrode, whereby the reaction of the formula (2) proceeds at the cathode. As the electrode reactions (1) and (2) proceed at each electrode, the fuel cell generates an electromotive force.
[0005]
In general, in power generation in a fuel cell, the chemical energy of the fuel that cannot be converted into electrical energy is released as heat, so that the electrode reaction can proceed smoothly, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 5-190193 discloses. As described, cooling fuel cells with circulating cooling water is widely practiced.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As shown in the above formula (2), in the electrode reaction, since water is generated at the cathode electrode, the generated water penetrates into the pores of the electrode and the diffusion layer, so-called electrode wetting (flooding) occurs. The gas diffusibility is lowered, causing the cell characteristics to deteriorate.
[0007]
On the other hand, in a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell, the proton conductivity of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane remarkably depends on the humidity of the reaction gas, and if the humidity of the reaction gas is too low, the solid polymer electrolyte membrane is dried. As a result, the film resistance is increased and the cell characteristics are deteriorated. For this reason, in order to appropriately maintain the wet state of the electrode, it is generally performed that the reaction gas is humidified and supplied by a humidifying means such as a humidifier. However, when humidifying means such as a humidifier is used in this way, the solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell becomes large and the power generation efficiency of the power generation system decreases.
[0008]
For this reason, an unhumidified operation in which a reaction gas is supplied without being humidified and a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell is operated has been attempted. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 2001-185172 and 2001-6698 include In addition, it is disclosed that the polymer electrolyte membrane is made thin, or the reactive gas supplied to the anode electrode and the cathode electrode is supplied as a counterflow that circulates in opposite directions.
[0009]
However, when power generation is performed with the reaction gas in a low or non-humidified state, the water content of the MEA (membrane electrode assembly), which is a portion that consumes fuel gas and oxidant gas to generate power, is not good. As a result, the protons necessary for power generation cannot be stably transferred. For this reason, it has been difficult to stably generate power without deteriorating cell characteristics. In the conventional fuel cell, the temperature range where power can be generated stably is limited to around 60 ° C. Therefore, it has been difficult to maintain operation at a temperature close to 90 ° C. at which the power generation efficiency of the fuel cell becomes more desirable.
[0010]
Furthermore, when using the electric power from the fuel cell as the propulsion energy of the vehicle, a radiator is required to smoothly exhaust the heat from the fuel cell. On the other hand, at the limited operating temperature as described above, there is not much temperature difference from the outside air temperature, so that it is not possible to achieve good heat removal efficiency. For this reason, in order to maintain the heat removal efficiency, a very large radiator is required, which increases the size of the power generation system using the fuel cell and causes the efficiency to decrease.
[0011]
Furthermore, as a fuel cell used in a fuel cell vehicle (FCV), a transient response that changes an operation state according to a load is required. That is, since the gas flow rate is relatively low compared to the generated water generated by power generation in the low load state, the drying of the MEA can be suppressed to some extent, while the amount of water generated according to the load also increases in the high load state. Although more, the gas flow rate becomes faster than that, so it is necessary to promote the drying of the MEA and to respond in part to the water shortage condition of the MEA. Further, since the evaporated water is stored in the gas on the downstream side of the gas, the gas cannot hold a moisture amount of a certain amount or more, which causes a pool of water, that is, flooding, and it is necessary to respond to this. . Thus, in the cell, the water content of the MEA becomes non-uniform so that the cell characteristics are deteriorated and it is difficult to operate the fuel cell stably.
[0012]
Therefore, the present invention has been made in consideration of such conventional problems, and its purpose is to suppress the drying of the membrane electrode assembly by water generated by the electrode reaction and to suppress the humidification. It is an object of the present invention to provide a fuel cell that has high power generation efficiency and can be miniaturized without causing deterioration of cell characteristics even in power generation under the supply of the above.
[0013]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the invention according to
[0014]
In the first aspect of the invention, the oxidant gas adjustment cooling water channel causes the gas temperature at the gas outlet portion of the oxidant gas having a high water content to be different from the gas temperature at the gas inlet portion. It is possible to agglomerate and collect the water. At this time, the water temperature can be recovered by making the gas temperature of the gas outlet portion lower than the gas temperature of the gas inlet portion, and for the gas inlet portion of the fuel gas with a low water content installed on the opposite side of the electrolyte membrane, It is possible to increase the difference in water content between the front and back surfaces of the electrolyte membrane, thereby promoting the supply of water from the gas outlet side of the oxidant gas to the gas inlet side via the electrolyte membrane.
[0015]
Furthermore, since the humidified fuel gas brings moisture into the cell center, drying of the membrane electrode assembly can be suppressed. For this reason, it becomes possible to suppress the deterioration of the cell characteristics and perform stable power generation.
[0016]
Furthermore, an oxidant gas adjustment cooling channel that adjusts the gas temperature of the outlet part to a different temperature state compared to the temperature of the gas inlet part of the oxidant gas, and a cooling water channel for exhaust heat of heat generated from the fuel cell itself By providing it independently, the operating temperature of the cell can be kept high. For this reason, while being able to maintain high electric power generation efficiency, the temperature difference with external temperature can be hold | maintained and it also becomes possible to perform the exhaust heat from a fuel cell smoothly.
[0017]
According to a second aspect of the present invention, there is provided a membrane electrode assembly in which an electrode comprising a catalyst layer containing a polymer electrolyte and a porous diffusion layer is disposed on both surfaces of the electrolyte membrane, and the membrane electrode assembly sandwiched between the membrane electrode assembly and the membrane electrode assembly. An anode-side separator and a cathode-side separator, Low or non-humidified A fuel gas flow path formed in the anode-side separator so that the fuel gas flows in a plane facing the membrane electrode assembly; Low or non-humidified An oxidant gas flow path formed in the cathode-side separator so that an oxidant gas flows in a plane facing the fuel gas in a plane facing the membrane electrode assembly, and the fuel gas flow path And a gas outlet and a gas outlet of the oxidant gas passage are arranged so as to face each other with a membrane electrode assembly interposed therebetween, and a fuel cell provided with a cooling water passage for exhaust heat that exhausts heat generated by power generation The oxidant gas flow path Cool the gas outlet An oxidant gas adjustment cooling water channel is formed in the cathode separator independently of the exhaust heat cooling water channel, and the fuel gas flow channel Cool the gas outlet A fuel gas adjusting cooling water channel is formed in the anode separator independently of the exhaust heat cooling water channel and the oxidant gas adjusting cooling water channel. That is, in the invention according to
[0018]
Therefore, in the invention described in
[0019]
Moreover, since both the humidified fuel gas and the oxidant gas bring moisture into the cell central portion, the drying operation of the membrane electrode assembly can be further suppressed. For this reason, it is possible to further suppress the deterioration of the cell characteristics and to stably generate power.
[0020]
The invention according to
[0021]
Therefore, in the invention according to
[0022]
Further, in the invention according to
[0023]
In general, in a portion where the temperature is lowered due to water aggregation, the temperature is lower than that in the central portion, so that the power generation efficiency is lower than that in the central portion, and the stability of the entire cell is impaired. In this invention, since the adjustment cooling water channel is not overlapped with the catalyst application part necessary for power generation, the catalyst can be used effectively. Thereby, the stability of the operation of the fuel cell can be increased, and the use of an excess catalyst can be suppressed.
[0024]
A fourth aspect of the present invention is the fuel cell according to any one of the first to third aspects, wherein the exhaust heat cooling water channel, the oxidant gas adjustment cooling water channel, and the fuel gas adjustment. The cooling water channel is connected to a separate temperature control system.

【The invention's effect】
According to the first aspect of the present invention, the gas temperature at the gas outlet portion of the oxidant gas having a high water content is set to a temperature different from the gas temperature at the gas inlet portion, so that the water scattered in the gas is aggregated and recovered. can do. Then, by collecting the water by lowering the gas temperature at the gas outlet portion below the gas temperature at the gas inlet portion, the moisture to the gas inlet portion of the fuel gas with a low water content installed on the opposite side of the electrolyte membrane It is possible to increase the concentration difference between the amounts, and to promote the supply of water from the gas outlet side of the oxidant gas to the gas inlet side through the electrolyte membrane.
[0031]
In addition, since the humidified fuel gas entrains moisture in the center of the cell, drying of the membrane electrode assembly can be suppressed, deterioration of cell characteristics can be suppressed, and power generation can be performed stably.
[0032]
In addition, since the adjustment cooling water channel is provided independently of the exhaust heat cooling water channel, the operating temperature of the cell can be maintained high, so that high power generation efficiency can be maintained and the temperature difference from the outside temperature can be maintained. In addition, the exhaust heat from the fuel cell can be smoothly performed.
[0033]
According to the invention of
[0034]
In addition, since both the humidified fuel gas and the oxidant gas entrain moisture in the center of the cell, it is possible to further suppress the dry operation of the membrane electrode assembly, and to suppress the deterioration of the cell characteristics, thereby generating power. It can be performed stably.
[0035]
According to the invention of
[0036]
Furthermore, since the adjustment cooling water channel does not overlap with the catalyst application part necessary for power generation, the catalyst can be used effectively, thereby improving the stability of the operation of the fuel cell, Since the use of an excess catalyst can be suppressed, the cost can be reduced.
