Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an occupant protection device provided with occupant detection means for detecting an occupant's physique, sitting state, seating position, and the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
An air bag as an occupant protection means is intended to protect an occupant by rapidly inflating between a steering wheel or dashboard and the occupant at the time of a car collision.
However, when the driver is small and the driver is driving at a position close to the steering wheel, or when the child is standing in front of the passenger seat, the distance between the steering wheel or dashboard and the passenger is very close. It is known that the deployment of the airbag may cause injury to the occupant.
Further, when the passenger in the passenger seat is a child 6 years of age or younger, it is safer not to deploy the airbag even if the passenger sits in a normal position.
For this reason, in the United States, an occupant protection device using an air bag is about to be legally required to install an occupant detection device.
[0003]
For this reason, occupant protection devices having various occupant detection means have been proposed, but occupant protection devices having occupant detection means for detecting the occupant state using triangulation are common (for example, patents). Reference 1).
The occupant protection device includes an infrared radiation means for emitting an infrared beam, an infrared detection means for detecting a light spot formed on the object by the infrared beam, and the object according to the principle of triangulation from the detected light spot position. When the ECU determines that it is dangerous to deploy the airbag from the position of the object detected by the occupant detection means, provided with an occupant detection device comprising position detection means for detecting the position and collision detection means In addition, the deployment of the airbag is suppressed.
[0004]
In this conventional example, an infrared beam is used for radiating waves. However, other devices using ultrasonic waves (for example, see Patent Document 2) and devices using optical signals (for example, Patent Documents). 3).
And in the passenger | crew detection means using LED as a light projection part, what shortens LED lighting interval by the signal from a collision sensor is proposed (for example, refer patent document 4).

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in any occupant detection device that radiates any wave signal, if the radiation power is increased in order to improve the detection accuracy of the object, the wave radiation unit is burdened, which may reduce durability.
In addition, when the wave signal is a light beam such as a laser or LED, it is necessary to consider the effect on the occupant's eyes. When the wave signal is an ultrasonic wave, it is necessary to consider that the transmitted sound is uncomfortable to the passenger. Was. For this reason, there is a limit to increasing the radiation power.
[0007]
In addition, when the interval of radiation is shortened and the number of detections per unit time is increased, the number of times of radiation per unit time is increased, resulting in a problem that durability of the output unit is lowered.
On the contrary, when the radiation interval is increased in consideration of the durability of the output unit, there is a problem that the detection accuracy of the occupant is lowered.
[0008]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problem, and by obtaining a result earlier than the collision detection by the collision prediction, it is possible to afford time and to surely detect the occupant, and to detect the collision. It is an object of the present invention to provide an occupant protection device capable of easily and reliably predicting.
[0009]

[0026]
A third embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing a control operation of the ECU 6 that controls the deployment of the airbag in the third embodiment.
In the third embodiment, the contents other than the specific configuration and operation described here have the same configuration and operation contents as the configuration and operation in the first and second embodiments described above. It has the same effect.
[0027]
In the first and second embodiments, occupant detection sensing is started after a collision is detected. Therefore, it is necessary for the occupant detection means 10 to perform occupant detection sensing in a short time and make an airbag deployment determination.
Usually, the time required for occupant detection sensing needs to be about several milliseconds or less. For this reason, the occupant detection means 10 needs to use expensive electronic components capable of high-speed processing, and there is a problem that the cost is high.
[0028]
Therefore, in the third embodiment, occupant detection sensing is started using a threshold value smaller than the threshold value used for collision detection of the collision sensor 7. As a result, the time required for occupant detection can be increased, so that it is not necessary to use expensive electronic components capable of high-speed processing, and the apparatus can be configured at low cost. In addition, since it takes a long time for occupant detection, it is possible to repeatedly perform occupant detection sensing and improve detection accuracy.

[0032]
In the third embodiment, the collision can be predicted about 5 msec before the collision detection.
In a collision accident, sudden braking called pre-breaking is often performed immediately before the collision. Therefore, if the collision prediction is performed by detecting that the brake has been depressed, the collision prediction can be performed in advance.
In general, the vehicle is already equipped with a braking detection switch for lighting the brake lamp, and there is an advantage that it is not necessary to provide a new sensor.

In the seventh embodiment, the contents other than the specific configuration and operation described here have the same configuration and operation contents as the configuration and operation in the first to sixth embodiments described above. It has the same effect.
[0045]
In the seventh embodiment, a sensor for detecting the brake force is provided as the collision prediction means described in the third to sixth embodiments. The brake force is input at
In this case, it is possible to prevent a misprediction of a collision due to a normal brake operation such as deceleration at an intersection, and to reliably perform a collision prediction.
[0046]
According to Embodiment 7 of the present invention, the collision predicting means described in
[0047]
As described above, in the embodiment according to the present invention, when a vehicle collision is not detected or when a vehicle collision is not predicted, power is not supplied to the occupant detection means, and a vehicle collision is detected. If a vehicle collision is predicted, the occupant detection means is supplied with power.
Since the time for radiating the wave is extremely shortened by the above means, the influence on the occupant's eyes is negligible, and the decrease in the durability of the wave radiating means can be suppressed. Further, the control for the occupant detection means can be realized with a simple circuit configuration.
[0048]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, the mode of the output unit of the occupant detection means is switched using a threshold value smaller than the threshold value used for the collision detection means for controlling the operation of the protective device such as an airbag.
By the above means, the mode switching of the output part of the occupant detection means can be performed at an earlier timing than the operation of the protective device such as an airbag, so that it takes a long time to detect the occupant and the detection accuracy is improved.
[0049]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, when a vehicle collision is detected, the mode is switched to a mode in which the radiation power of the wave radiation portion of the occupant detection means is increased as compared with the case where no vehicle collision is detected.
By the above means, the radiation power is increased only when a vehicle collision is detected, so that a decrease in durability can be suppressed. Further, by increasing the radiation power, it is possible to detect a subject with low reflectivity, and it is difficult to be affected by light disturbance caused by sunlight or the like, so that the detection accuracy of the occupant can be improved. Further, since the radiation power increases for a short time, the influence on the occupant's eyes is negligible.
[0050]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, when a vehicle collision is detected, a mode in which the radiation power of the occupant detection means is increased and the radiation time is further shortened compared to the case where no vehicle collision is detected. Switch to.
By the above means, the radiation power is increased only when a vehicle collision is detected, so that a decrease in durability can be suppressed. In addition, if the radiation power is large, the reflected wave power is also large, so the radiation time can be set short and the time required to detect the reflected wave can be shortened, thus suppressing a decrease in the detection accuracy of the occupant. In addition, the detection time can be shortened.
[0051]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, a collision prediction unit for predicting a vehicle collision is provided, and the mode of the occupant detection unit is switched when a vehicle collision is predicted.
Therefore, since the mode switching of the occupant detection means can be performed at an earlier timing than when a vehicle collision is detected, it takes a longer time to detect the occupant and the detection accuracy is improved.
[0052]
In an embodiment according to the present invention, a collision prediction unit for predicting a vehicle collision is provided. When a vehicle collision is predicted, the wave of the occupant detection unit is compared with a case where a vehicle collision is not predicted. It is characterized by switching to a mode for shortening the radiation interval of the radiation part.
By the above means, the number of detections per unit time is increased, so that the occupant detection accuracy can be improved. Moreover, since it is a short time to radiate waves at short intervals, it is possible to suppress a decrease in durability.
[0053]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, it is determined that a collision has been predicted when it is detected that the brake has been depressed by a sensor that detects the brake.
The collision prediction can be easily performed by the above means. For example, there is no need to add a new sensor in conjunction with the stop lamp.
[0054]
In the embodiment according to the present invention, a sensor for detecting a braking force is provided, and it is determined that a collision has been predicted when the braking force is equal to or greater than an arbitrary threshold value.
By the above-described means, it is possible to reliably perform the collision prediction by detecting the sudden braking before the collision generally called pre-breaking.
[0055]
【The invention's effect】
According to this invention, By obtaining results earlier than collision detection by collision prediction, time can be spared, occupant detection can be performed reliably, and collision prediction can be performed easily and reliably. An occupant protection device can be provided.
