【0013】
LL={(a+b)/2+(c+d)/2}/2
HL={(a−b)+(c−d)}/2
LH={(a+b)−(c+d)}/2
HH=(a−b)−(c−d) …(1)
a=20
b=24
c=24
d=20
LL=22
HL=0
LH=0
HH=−4
a=20
b=240
c=20
d=200
LL=125
HL=−220
LH=0
HH=−40
LL=255
HL=LH=HH=0
a=b=c=d=255
a=20
b=120
c=20
d=120
LL=70
HL=−100
LH=0
HH=0
となる。
【0026】
a=70
b=0
c=70
d=0
a=35
b=0
c=35
d=0

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image processing apparatus for performing toner saving when outputting image data to a printer that uses toner.
[0002]
[Prior art]
When an image is output by a printer using toner, a test image may be output first. In such a case, in general, the user does not have much problem with the quality of the test image and desires to obtain the output result obtained by extracting the features of the image in a short time. For example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 9-95009 As shown in FIG. 4, there are known methods for performing toner save output, draft printing, and the like.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, the conventional toner save relates to a binary image. However, there is a case where toner saving is desired for the same purpose even in a multi-valued image. In this case, the simplest toner saving method is to perform γ correction in the direction of decreasing the density value. However, this method makes it possible to save toner because the density is low, but there is no advantage in terms of high-speed processing, and there is a problem that thin characters are further thinned and difficult to read. In contrast to this method, the toner saving method by the simple thinning method has a problem that the thin line disappears although the processing time is high speed. On the other hand, when creating a test image, it may be sufficient to output an image in which only the contours of the constituent elements of the image are extracted if only the arrangement and characteristics of the image need to be grasped.
[0004]
An object of the present invention is to provide an image processing apparatus that can easily save toner when a multi-valued image is output as a test.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problem, the first means divides the image data into blocks of m × n pixels, and converts the image data into subband transform coefficients for each block divided by the dividing means. Subband conversion means that outputs the subband conversion coefficient of the block as it is when the high frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is equal to or greater than a threshold value, and the block when the high frequency coefficient is not equal to or greater than the threshold value. And a toner saving means for performing γ conversion of the subband conversion coefficient in the low density direction and outputting the same.
[0006]
In order to solve the above problem, the second means divides the image data into blocks of m × n pixels, and converts the image data into subband transform coefficients for each block divided by the dividing means. Subband conversion means, and when the difference between the low frequency coefficient of the target block and the adjacent block converted by the subband conversion means is equal to or greater than a threshold value, the subband conversion coefficient of the adjacent block is output as the coefficient of the target block And a toner save means for performing γ conversion of the subband conversion coefficient of the block of interest in the low density direction when the difference between the low frequency coefficients is not greater than or equal to a threshold value.
[0007]
In order to solve the above problem, the third means divides the image data into blocks of m × n pixels, and converts the image data into subband transform coefficients for each block divided by the dividing means. Subband conversion means that performs γ conversion of the subband conversion coefficient of the block in the direction of maximum density when the high frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is equal to or greater than a threshold value, and outputs the threshold. And a toner save means for performing γ conversion of the subband conversion coefficient of the block in the low density direction when the value is not equal to or greater than the value, and outputting.
[0008]
The fourth means is characterized in that, in the first to third means, all of the toner saving means sets “0” when the subband conversion coefficient is γ-converted in the low density direction.
[0009]
In order to solve the above problem, the fifth means divides the image data into blocks of m × n pixels, and converts the image data into subband transform coefficients for each block divided by the dividing means. And a toner saving means for simply sampling and outputting a low-frequency coefficient among the subband conversion coefficients.
[0010]
A sixth means is characterized in that, in the fifth means, the toner saving means simply samples a low frequency coefficient among the subband conversion coefficients, and then performs γ conversion in the low density direction and outputs the result. .
[0011]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing an embodiment of an image processing apparatus according to the present invention, FIG. 2 is an explanatory diagram showing Harr Wavelet transform processing as an example of processing of the subband transform unit of FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 is an outline of FIG. FIG. 4 is an explanatory diagram showing a specific example of the process of the first modification of the contour image creation unit of FIG. 1, and FIG. 5 is an explanatory diagram of the contour image creation unit of FIG. FIG. 6 is an explanatory diagram showing a specific example of the process of the second modification, FIG. 6 is an explanatory diagram showing a specific example of the process of the low frequency thinned image creating unit of FIG. 1, and FIG. 7 is the low frequency thinned image creating unit of FIG. It is explanatory drawing which shows the specific example of the process of a modification.
[0012]
In FIG. 1, for example, image data having a depth of 8 bits (256 gradations) is first displayed for each block including 2 × 2 pixels a, b, c, and d as shown in FIG. 2 by a 2 × 2
[0013]
LL = {(a + b) / 2 + (c + d) / 2} / 2
HL = {(ab) + (cd)} / 2
LH = {(a + b)-(c + d)} / 2
HH = (ab)-(cd) (1)
Here, when the input image data a to d are 8 bits deep (256 gradations), the LL component can take a value from 0 to 255, so the 8 bits, the HL and LH components are values from -255 to 255. Can be taken as 9 bits, and the HH component can take values from -510 to 510, so becomes 10 bits.
[0014]
This subband transform coefficient is sent to the contour image creation unit 203, the low frequency thinned
[0015]
The contour image creation unit 203 first determines a block that satisfies the following condition A as a contour region.
[0016]
Condition A: | HL |> 31 or | LH |> 31
Then, the subband transform coefficients are output as they are in the contour region, while all the subband transform coefficients are set to “0” in the other regions. With reference to FIG. 3A, processing of an area other than the outline area will be described. First, image data a to d are a = 20.
b = 24
c = 24
d = 20
In this case, the subband transform coefficient is LL = 22.
HL = 0
LH = 0
HH = -4
It becomes. Since this subband transform coefficient does not satisfy the condition A, it is determined as “an area other than the contour area”, and all the subband transform coefficients are set to “0”.
[0017]
Next, the contour region processing will be described with reference to FIG. First, image data a to d are a = 20.
b = 240
c = 20
d = 200
In this case, the subband transform coefficient is LL = 125
HL = −220
LH = 0
HH = -40
It becomes. Since this subband transform coefficient satisfies the condition A, it is determined as “contour region”, and the subband transform coefficient is output as it is.
[0018]
FIG. 3C shows an example in which a
[0019]
Next, a first modification of the contour image creation unit 203 will be described with reference to FIG. First, the region determination condition is determined as a contour region based on the condition A as in the first embodiment (see FIG. 3). In the contour region, the subband conversion coefficient is LL = 255.
HL = LH = HH = 0
On the other hand, in the other areas, all the subband transform coefficients are set to “0” as in the first embodiment (see FIG. 3).
[0020]
FIG. 4A shows processing of a region other than the contour region. Since the image data a to d are the same as those in FIG. 3A, the subband transform coefficient does not satisfy the condition A. And the subband conversion coefficients are all set to “0”. Here, this processing indicates that each pixel a to d in the block has been γ-transformed in the low density direction as shown in FIG.
[0021]
Next, the contour region processing will be described with reference to FIG. First, since the image data a to d are the same as those in FIG. 3B, this subband conversion coefficient satisfies the condition A and is determined as an “outline region”, and the subband conversion coefficient is converted as described above. Here, in this process, each pixel a to d in the block has a = b = c = d = 255 as shown in FIG.
It shows that γ conversion was performed in the direction of the highest density.
[0022]
FIG. 4C shows an example in which a
[0023]
By the way, when the edge exists at the boundary of the block and the density of each block is uniform as in the
[0024]
Condition B: (1) | HL |> 31 or | LH |> 31 or (2) The difference in LL coefficient between the adjacent block and the target block is greater than 31. Here, the 2 × 2 block shown in FIG. In the
[0025]
Next, the processing of the low-frequency thinned-out
a = 20
b = 120
c = 20
d = 120
In this case, the subband transform coefficient is LL = 70
HL = -100
LH = 0
HH = 0
It becomes.
[0026]
Then, when the low-frequency thinned
a = 70
b = 0
c = 70
d = 0
Therefore, a toner save rate of 50% {= (70 + 0 + 70 + 0) / (20 + 120 + 20 + 120)} can be realized. Here, the low-frequency thinned image 405 of the 2 × 2
[0027]
Next, this modification will be described with reference to FIG. The low-frequency thinned
a = 35
b = 0
c = 35

Therefore, a toner save rate of 25% {= (35 + 0 + 35 + 0) / (20 + 120 + 20 + 120)} can be realized.
[0028]
Here, the low-frequency thinned image 606 in FIG. 7B shows that 50% of toner is saved in the 2 × 2 block image 605 according to the first embodiment, and the low-frequency thinned

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the first aspect of the present invention, when the high frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is equal to or greater than the threshold value, the subband conversion coefficient of the block is output as it is, and the high frequency coefficient is not equal to or greater than the threshold value. In this case, since the subband conversion coefficient of the block is γ-converted in the low density direction and output, toner can be easily saved when a multi-value image is output as a test.
[0030]
According to the second aspect of the present invention, when the difference between the low frequency coefficient between the target block subjected to subband conversion and the adjacent block is equal to or greater than a threshold value, the subband conversion coefficient of the adjacent block is output as the coefficient of the target block. When the difference between the low-frequency coefficients of the target block that has undergone subband conversion and the adjacent block is not greater than or equal to the threshold value, the subband conversion coefficient of the target block is γ-transformed in the low density direction and output. A contour line can be detected.
[0031]
According to the third aspect of the present invention, when the high frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is equal to or higher than the threshold value, the subband coefficient of the block is γ-converted in the maximum density direction and output, and the high frequency coefficient is equal to or higher than the threshold value. If it is not, the subband conversion coefficient of the block is γ-converted in the low density direction and output, so it is possible to easily save toner when testing a multi-valued image, and this can be entropy encoded. When transmitting to a printer, the transmission time can be shortened.
[0032]
According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, all of the subband conversion coefficients are set to “0” when the γ conversion is performed in the low density direction, so that the toner can be easily saved when the multi-value image is output as a test. In addition, when this is entropy encoded and transmitted to the printer, the transmission time can be shortened.
[0033]
According to the fifth aspect of the present invention, since the low frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is simply sampled, the toner can be easily saved and the disappearance of the thin line can be prevented. Furthermore, when only low frequency coefficients are entropy encoded and transmitted to the printer, the transmission time can be shortened.
[0034]
According to the sixth aspect of the present invention, since the low frequency coefficient of the subband conversion coefficient is simply sampled and then γ-converted in the low density direction and output, the toner can be further saved.
