BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a frequency characteristic control device and a frequency characteristic control method for a musical tone signal that controls the frequency characteristic of a musical tone signal in accordance with the number of musical sounds that are simultaneously generated.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Some recent electronic musical instruments using a digital sound source produce a plurality of musical sounds at the same time. This is because a tone signal generated using digital data is generated one by one in a multi-channel time division system, and these digital tone signals are accumulated and converted into an analog signal by a DA converter, Pronounced from sound systems.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in an electronic musical instrument equipped with a digital sound source system as described above, for example, an electronic piano, when a song with a large number of simultaneous sounds is played, the musical sounds are mixed and the intelligibility of the musical sound is lowered. As one means for solving this, it is conceivable to uniformly increase the decay speed of each musical sound so that each musical sound is attenuated early after sound generation. However, if the decay time of each musical sound is shortened uniformly in this way, it is good when there are many simultaneous pronunciations, but when playing a quiet song with few simultaneous pronunciations, there are many periods when only a single sound is played, Moreover, since this single tone is attenuated quickly, there arises a problem that it becomes an unnatural tone. In addition, the ambiguity when the number of simultaneous pronunciations is large is considered to be due to the fact that many sounds in a specific frequency band included in each musical sound are mixed.
[0004]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and an object of the present invention is to eliminate the ambiguity of musical sounds when the number of simultaneous pronunciations is large, and to be unnatural when the number of simultaneous pronunciations is small. The purpose is to produce clear and natural musical sounds by preventing the decay of musical sounds.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-mentioned problem, as shown in FIG. 1, the present invention provides a tone generation instruction means M1, a tone signal generation means M2, a plurality of filter means M3-1 to M3-n, and a determinant detection means. M4 and selection means M5 are provided.
[0006]
The musical tone signal generating means M2 generates and outputs a plurality of musical tone signals in accordance with instructions from the plurality of musical tone instruction means M1. A determinant for determining which of the plurality of filter units M3-1 to M3-n is selected is detected by the determinant detecting unit M4. Based on this determinant, the selection means M5 is a filter means having a characteristic that appropriately attenuates a frequency component of a specific band that causes an obscured musical tone to be generated when the number of simultaneous sounds increases. Select to supply a musical tone signal. Also, when the number of simultaneous sounds decreases, a filter means having a characteristic that can provide a natural tone without a sense of incongruity is selected and a tone signal is supplied.
[0007]
As a result, filter means having appropriate filter characteristics is selected according to the increase / decrease in the number of simultaneous sounds, and the frequency characteristics of the synthesized musical tone signal are appropriately controlled. Therefore, when the number of simultaneous sounds is large, a filter means having an attenuation characteristic corresponding to the number of simultaneous sounds is selected. As a result, the frequency components in a specific band that obscure the tone to be generated are attenuated, and the tone to be generated becomes clear. In addition, when the number of simultaneous sounds is small, a natural musical sound without a sense of incongruity can be produced by selecting a filter means that has a low degree of attenuation at a specific frequency or does not perform attenuation.

An example of reverberation sound generation processing is disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 6-38608, and an example of resonance generation processing is disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 5-137863.

When a key tone that has a key-on event is played, its envelope changes in the order attack, decay, and release, and is muted, but the key tone that has a key-on event by the reverberation and resonance generation processing Reverberation sound and resonance sound are generated. Therefore, the number of simultaneous sounds is increased by performing the process of generating the musical tone of the key having the key-on event and the process of generating the reverberation sound and the resonance sound. In addition, since reverberant sounds are often generated after a key-off event, the number of simultaneous sounds may be greater than the number of key presses even if the number of key presses is reduced due to key-off. The key-on event and key-off event are based not only on the operation of the

Further, the note-on count value ONn may be corrected by addition multiplication or the like according to the number of reverberation sounds or the number of resonance sounds when the reverberation sound generation process or the resonance sound generation process is performed.

[0042]
An acoustic piano has thick and long strings in the low range, and thin and short strings in the high range. For this reason, since the low-tone musical sound has a long decay time, when the number of simultaneous sounds is large, many low-frequency musical sounds are mixed and the musical sound is often unclear. On the other hand, the high frequency range musical sound has a shorter decay time than the low frequency range musical sound, and therefore, even when the number of simultaneous pronunciations is large, the musical sound is less obscured. The data table 50 in FIG. 10 is determined in consideration of the fact that the decay time of the piano sound differs depending on the key range that is pressed as described above.
[0043]
Note that the tone range (timbre, touch) distribution coefficient EL in FIG. 11 is not limited to that shown in FIG. 11, but is stepped, V-shaped, U-shaped, M-shaped, W-shaped, N-shaped, S-shaped, and Futami-shaped. Any shape is acceptable. The distribution coefficient EL may be determined according to the pitch (key number KN), octave chord, tone number TN (tone), touch data, effect data, sound generation elapsed time, and performance part. . (9) Filter determination level calculation processing
FIG. 12 is a flowchart of the filter determination level calculation process (step 550) in FIG. In this processing, a variable called a filter determination level AL for determining which of the four digital filters F1 to F4 is supplied with the synthesized musical tone signal SD is a key pressing number that is a determinant related to the number of simultaneous sounds, Increase / decrease according to the operation range (tone, touch) and damper pedal. First, the note-on count value data ONn obtained by the
[0047]
Since the note-on count value ONn is data indicating the number of key presses, and the musical sound of the key with the note-on is sounded simultaneously, the note-on count value ONn indicates the number of sound effects such as reverberation sound and resonance sound. It corresponds to the number of simultaneous pronunciations excluded. Of course, you may include numbers, such as a reverberation sound. When the number of simultaneous pronunciations exceeds a certain value, the musical sound produced from the
[0048]
When the filter determination level AL is obtained, the accumulated distribution coefficient TEL is read from the register 34 (step 556) and added to the filter determination level AL (step 558). This is a coefficient determined by the filter determination level AL according to the note-on count value ONn, that is, the number of keys that are note-on, and this coefficient is further used as the key range (timbre, touch) of the key where the key-on event occurred. This is because of correction according to the situation. As a result, the filter determination level AL is increased based on the increase in the number of key presses and the increase in the number of sounds generated by the tone range (tone color, touch). The corrected filter determination level AL is stored in the
[0049]
As described above, the level control coefficient AL obtained according to the number of key presses and corrected according to the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution is further increased or decreased according to the on / off state of the damper pedal. Following

(10) Filter determination processing
FIG. 14 is a flowchart of the filter determination process (step 580) in FIG. In this process, the synthesized musical tone signal SD is sent to any of the four digital filters F1 to F4 in accordance with the magnitude of the filter determination level AL determined and corrected in the filter determination level calculation process (step 550). A decision is made whether to supply. First, the
[0053]
Next, the filter determination level AL and each threshold value XA, XB, XC are compared (
[0054]
Of the four digital filters F1 to F4, the three digital filters F2, F3, and F4 are low and medium frequency bands of low and medium frequencies as shown in FIGS. 15 (B), (C), and (D). This is a band elimination filter (BEF) having frequency characteristics with the frequency band as an attenuation region. The remaining one is an all-pass filter (APF) having a flat frequency characteristic as shown in FIG. The gains F2a, F3a, and F4a in the attenuation regions of the digital filters F2, F3, and F4 are 1>F2a>F3a> F4a. That is, the digital filter F4 has the largest attenuation rate in the attenuation region, the digital filter F3 is next largest, and the attenuation rate of the digital filter F2 is small. The digital filter F1 does not have an attenuation range.
[0055]
The low-frequency music of an acoustic piano contains a lot of low and medium frequency components and has a long decay time, so when there are many simultaneous sounds, the low and medium frequency components are not easily attenuated, so the sound that is produced is not good. May be clear. Therefore, by attenuating the low and medium frequency components by the digital filters F2 to F4, the tone to be generated is clarified. However, if the low and medium frequency components are attenuated uniformly, the low and medium frequency components may be attenuated unnecessarily when the number of simultaneous sounds is small, resulting in an unnatural musical tone. Digital filters F1 to F4 having different attenuation factors are selected according to the degree.
[0056]
As described above, a digital filter having a larger attenuation rate is selected as the filter determination level AL is larger. The filter determination level AL basically increases as the number of key presses increases, so that the low and medium frequency components increase as shown in FIG. Further, since the low tone musical tone includes a lot of low and medium frequency components, and the high tone musical tone does not contain much low and medium frequency components, the tone range (tone color and touch) distribution coefficient EL is determined as shown in FIG. The filter decision level AL is corrected so as to increase as the number of low-tone musical sounds is increased (
[0057]
As described above, in the present embodiment, the four filters F1 having different attenuation factors in the low and middle frequency bands based on the number of depressed keys, the tone range (tone color, touch) of the depressed key, and on / off of the damper pedal. -F4 is selected, the synthesized musical tone signal SD is filtered, and control is performed so that the low and medium frequency components are at appropriate levels.

(11) Key event processing (second embodiment)
FIG. 16 shows in place of the above tone generation process (step 400), note-on count process (step 450), tone range (tone color, touch) distribution discrimination process (step 500), and filter determination level calculation process (step 550). Key event processing (step 800) may be executed. In this process, the
[0059]
On the other hand, when there is a key-off event, it is determined after
[0060]
The above key-on event process is a process as shown in FIG. First, the note-on count value ONn is incremented (step 820). Then, the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution determination process (step 500) of FIG. 10 is performed, and the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL corresponding to the tone range (tone color, touch) of the key having the key-on event is obtained. (Step 822). Then, the filter determination level AL is determined by the note-on count value ONn and the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL (step 824). For this filter determination level AL, for example, a standard parameter constant TAL is determined in advance, and an operation for correcting the standard parameter constant TAL by a note-on count value ONn and a tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL is executed. Alternatively, it is determined by a process of reading from a data table using ONn and EL as parameters. The tone range (tone color, touch) distribution constant EL acts in the direction of increasing the standard parameter TAL at the time of a key-on event. The determined filter determination level AL is stored in the
[0061]
FIG. 18 is a flowchart of the key-off event process. First, the note-on count value ONn is decremented (step 830). Then, the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution determination process (step 500) of FIG. 10 is performed, and the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL corresponding to the tone range (tone color, touch) of the key having the key-off event is obtained. (Step 832). Then, the filter determination level AL is determined by the note-on count value ONn and the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL (step 834). At the time of this key-off event, the tone range (tone color, touch) distribution coefficient EL acts in the direction of decreasing the standard parameter TAL. The determined filter determination level AL is stored in the
[0062]
The filter determination level AL obtained as described above is compared with threshold values XA, XB, and XC by the filter determination process (step 580) in FIG. 14, and the select data ST of the digital filters F1 to F4 is determined. .
[0063]
(12) Overall circuit (third embodiment)
In the above embodiment, an example in which the four digital filters F1 to F4 are provided has been shown. However, as shown in FIG. 19, the synthesized musical tone signal SD output from the
[0064]
The present invention is not limited to the above embodiments, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. For example, in the above embodiment, the filter determination level AL is determined based on the number of key presses, the tone range (tone, touch) of the key that was turned on / off, and the damper pedal on / off. Alternatively, it may be determined based only on the key range or pitch, or only on / off of the damper pedal. Alternatively, the determination may be made based on the number of key presses and the range or pitch, the number of key presses and the damper pedal on / off, and the range or pitch and the damper pedal on / off. This is because these are all related to the increase or decrease in the number of simultaneous pronunciations.
[0065]
Further, in the note-on counting process (step 450) of FIG. 9, the number of channels storing key-on data is counted (step 456). As shown in FIG. The number of channels that have been set may be counted (step 470). As a result, it is possible to perform control in consideration of the number of simultaneous sounds when there is a musical sound to be generated even if no key is pressed. This is because, depending on the model, a plurality of channels may be used with one key, and the number of channels to be used may change depending on the tone setting (for example, piano, organ, harpsichord, etc.).
[0066]
Further, the filter determination level AL is not limited to that determined by the relationship as in the data table 60 shown in FIG. For example, as shown in D1 and D2 of FIG. 21, the relationship may increase in a curve when the note-on count value ONn is equal to or greater than a certain value K, or as indicated by D3, D4, and D5 of FIG. A relationship of increasing from a constant value P in a curvilinear or linear manner as the note-on count value ONn increases may be employed.
[0067]
Further, the number of filters is not limited, and the frequency characteristics of the filters are not limited to the characteristics having an attenuation region in the low and middle frequency bands as described above, and are not limited to a high pass filter, a low pass filter, a band pass filter, It may be a band stop filter, a band cutoff filter having a plurality of attenuation bands in different frequency bands, or the like.
[0068]
Further, the digital filters F1 to F4 may be configured by software in the
[0069]
In the above embodiment, the filter is selected by comparing the filter determination level AL, but the filter selection is not limited to this. For example, the number of key presses, the range or pitch of a musical tone to be generated, a damper pedal, etc. Based on the determinant related to the increase / decrease in the number of simultaneous sounds such as on / off of the effect adding device, it is determined by the calculation result of a predetermined arithmetic expression (may be an arithmetic circuit), or is appropriately determined from a preset data table A suitable filter may be determined.
[0070]
Moreover, although the said Example demonstrated the electronic musical instrument which simulates and produces | generates the sound generated by an acoustic piano, this invention is applicable also to the electronic musical instrument which produces | generates the sound generated of musical instruments other than a piano. In this case, the

Furthermore, in the above-described embodiment, an electronic musical instrument that performs processing for generating sound effects such as reverberation sound generation processing and resonance sound generation processing has been described. However, an electronic musical instrument that does not perform these processing may be used. In this case, at least the key-on number is detected and the filter determination level AL is determined.
[0072]
Further, even if the key of the
[0073]
Further, in each of the above-described embodiments, the same processing can be performed by replacing the pitch and tone range (key number data KN) with tone colors (tone number data TN) or touch data. In this case, the sound range distribution coefficient EL in FIG. 11 is a pitch distribution coefficient, a timbre distribution coefficient, or a touch distribution coefficient.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, the present invention detects a determinant related to increase or decrease in the number of simultaneous pronunciations or the number of simultaneous pronunciations such as a key-on number, a tone or touch with key on / off, or a damper pedal on / off. Filter means having a suitable frequency characteristic is selected from a plurality of filter means for filtering the synthesized musical tone signal based on the determinant. As a result, when the number of simultaneous sounds increases, the frequency components of a specific band in the sound to be sounded are attenuated to prevent the music from becoming unclear. By canceling or suppressing the attenuating operation of the frequency component in the specific band, it is possible to generate a natural musical tone without a sense of incongruity.
[0082]
Further, the present invention is configured to remove the ambiguity of the musical sound by attenuating the frequency component of the specific band, so that the envelope shape of the musical sound signal is deformed, and the sound generation time and attenuation of each musical sound to be sounded Since the time is not changed, the note length does not change and an accurate performance can be performed.
