【0001】
Phys.,76(1994)pp6673;US Patent 5,820,768及び5,956,216;R.H.M.New et al.,J.Vac.Sci.Technol.,B12(1994)pp3196;特開平10−233015号公報)。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a playback device and a recording / playback device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
With the dramatic improvement in functions of information devices such as personal computers, the amount of information handled by users has increased significantly. Under such circumstances, the expectation for a recording / reproducing apparatus and a reproducing apparatus having a remarkably high recording density is increasing.
[0003]
In order to improve the recording density of the recording / reproducing apparatus and the reproducing apparatus, it is necessary to miniaturize the recording marks on the recording medium. However, at present, a great difficulty is faced in realizing miniaturization of recording marks.
[0004]
For example, in a magnetic disk used in a hard disk drive (hereinafter referred to as HDD), a polycrystalline body having a wide particle size distribution is used in the recording layer, and as the number of small polycrystalline bodies contained in the recording layer increases, the heat of the crystal increases. The recording stability is lowered due to the fluctuation. For this reason, there is no problem when the recording mark is large, but when the recording mark is small, the recording stability is lowered and noise is increased. This is because when the recording mark is made smaller, the number of crystal grains contained in the recording mark is reduced and the interaction between the recording marks is relatively increased.
[0005]
Such a situation is the same for an optical disc using a phase change material. For example, in order to achieve a recording density of several hundred gigabits per square inch or more in a phase change type optical disc, the recording mark size must be approximately the same as the crystal size of the phase change material. In this case, recording is unstable. Medium noise increases.
[0006]
In order to avoid the problems described above, in the field of magnetic recording, there is a patterned medium in which non-recording materials are interposed between recording material particles so that the particles are separated from each other, and each recording material particle is one recording cell. Proposed (S. Y. Chou et al., J. Appl. Phys., 76 (1994) pp 6673; US Patents 5,820,768 and 5,956,216; RH M. New et al. , J. Vac. Sci. Technol., B12 (1994) pp 3196; For example, it is considered that the above problem can be avoided by using such a technique.
[0007]
Incidentally, in order to increase the recording density, it is necessary to increase the track density in addition to miniaturizing the recording marks. As the track density increases, extremely high positional accuracy is required for tracking servo marks. However, it is very difficult to achieve such positional accuracy by a method of forming servo marks by magnetic writing on the recording layer.
[0008]
In order to deal with such a problem, as a technique for performing tracking using a sector servo system, it has been proposed to previously make a tracking servo pattern on a disk as an uneven pattern (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-111502). ). According to this technique, the position of the servo pattern can be controlled with high accuracy, so that a higher track density can be realized as compared with a conventional HDD.
[0009]
However, with this technique, if the servo pattern becomes extremely fine when the recording density is set to 100 Gbps to 1 Tbpsi, it becomes difficult to draw the servo pattern by inexpensive lithography. In addition, it is necessary to increase the sampling frequency of the servo pattern as the track density increases. In this case, however, there is a problem that the data area is reduced in the sector servo system.
[0010]
On the other hand, a servo system using a magnetic double layer, that is, a buried servo system in which data is recorded in an upper magnetic layer and servo information is recorded in a lower magnetic layer is known. According to this method, servo position information in a sufficient frequency band can be continuously recorded in the track direction. However, when this technology is applied to a perpendicular magnetic recording medium, it is necessary to provide a soft magnetic layer under the perpendicular magnetic recording layer in order to improve the magnetic characteristics in the perpendicular magnetic recording medium. It becomes very difficult to detect.
[0011]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
An object of the present invention is to provide a reproducing apparatus and a recording / reproducing apparatus that hardly cause problems associated with tracking even when the recording density is increased.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problems, the present invention has a structure in which a plurality of recording cell groups in which a plurality of recording cells are arranged in a first direction are arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction. A reproducing apparatus capable of reproducing information held by recording media having the same recording state of each recording cell in each recording cell group, the reproducing device being capable of facing the recording medium, and facing the recording medium A reproducing head having a sensing unit for sensing a recording state of a recording cell; and a driving mechanism for moving the reproducing head relative to the recording medium in the second direction. The distance between the shortest centers of the recording cells in a direction that is oblique and extends in a third direction intersecting the second direction and that is perpendicular to the third direction is smaller than that in the recording cell group. Longer between recording cells Providing a reproducing apparatus which is characterized and.
[0013]
Further, the present invention can record information on a recording medium having a structure in which a plurality of recording cell groups in which a plurality of recording cells are arranged in the first direction are arranged in a second direction intersecting the first direction. And a recording / reproducing apparatus capable of reproducing information recorded on the recording medium, the recording / reproducing apparatus being capable of facing the recording medium, and individually recording so that the recording states of the recording cells are the same in each recording cell group A recording / reproducing head provided with a writing element capable of writing information in the recording cell group, and a sensing unit for sensing a recording state of the recording cell on a surface facing the recording medium, and the recording / reproducing head comprising the recording / reproducing head. A driving mechanism that moves relative to the medium in the second direction, the sensing unit extending in a third direction that is oblique to the first direction and intersects the second direction; Hanging in the third direction Shortest distance between the centers of the recording cells for such direction, compared with the recording cell group, to provide a recording and reproducing apparatus characterized by longer between the recording cell groups.
[0014]
Here, “the recording states of the recording cells in each recording cell group are the same” means that, for example, the information “0” and “1” are changed from the first state in which the magnetization is in the first direction. In the case of corresponding to each of the second states in the second direction different from the first direction, the magnetization of all the recording cells included in each recording cell group is in one of the first and second states. It means that it is in the state of. Further, for example, when information “0” and “1” are respectively associated with a first state in which optical characteristics such as reflectance and transmittance are higher than a predetermined threshold and a second state lower than the threshold, This means that the optical characteristics of all the recording cells included in the recording cell group are in one of the first and second states.
[0015]
In the present invention, each of the recording cells can include a magnetic recording layer. In this case, the sensing unit may be a magnetic sensing unit. In this case, the writing element may include a magnetic field generator.
[0016]
In the present invention, each of the recording cells can include a phase change recording layer. In this case, the sensing unit may be a photosensitive unit. In this case, the writing element may include a light emitting portion.
[0017]
In the present invention, the operation of the drive mechanism includes a first operation for changing the relative position of the head with respect to the recording medium in the second direction and a first operation for changing the relative position of the head with respect to the recording medium in a direction intersecting the second direction. Two operations. In this case, the apparatus of the present invention may further include a control unit that controls the second operation based on the output of the sensing unit. Further, in this case, the device may perform tracking by the control of the control unit.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, in the present invention, a plurality of recording cell groups in which a plurality of recording cells are arranged in the first direction are arranged in the second direction, and the recording state of the recording cells is the same in each recording cell group. And In the present invention, the sensing unit of the reading sensor extends in a third direction that is oblique to the first direction and intersects the second direction, and is a recording cell in a direction perpendicular to the third direction. The distance between the shortest centers is made longer between the recording cell groups than in the recording cell group. As a result, the recording cell itself can be used as a servo mark for tracking. Therefore, even when the recording density is increased, problems associated with tracking hardly occur.
That is, according to the present invention, there are provided a reproducing apparatus and a recording / reproducing apparatus that are less likely to cause a problem associated with tracking even when the recording density is increased.
