【従来の技術】
近年の圧延機においては、圧延精度の向上のために多量の冷却水が使用され、、また、圧延荷重や圧延トルク低減のため圧延ロ−ルと被加工材料間に潤滑油(圧延油)が使用される。そしてこれらの冷却水や圧延油等が圧延ロ−ルのロ−ルネック用軸受部に多量にかかり、一部軸受内部に侵入する。このような冷却水、圧延油、スケ−ル等が軸箱内の軸受部に侵入すると、軸受寿命を大幅に短縮させかつ振動の原因となって圧延精度を劣化させる。かかる不都合を防止するため従来から軸受部を密封する種々の工夫がなされている(特公昭55−22648号、特公昭54−69639号等)。しかし、密封装置は、軸受及びロ−ルの取扱上、ロ−ルネックと軸受内輪とはル−ズフィットに嵌合されているものであり、冷却水や圧延油の侵入を防ぎ得なかったり、また、軸受用潤滑剤の漏出を阻止できず、或いはすべり運動による内輪端面の摩耗を促進するという問題があった。

上記するような従来技術の問題点を解決するため、図3に示すような、ロ−ルネック用軸受の密封装置が提案されている(実公平1−14323号)。
