Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a laser printer using an electrophotographic system, and in particular, transfers an unfixed toner image formed on a photosensitive drum onto a recording medium via an intermediate transfer member. The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In the image forming apparatus, an unfixed toner image formed on the surface of an image carrier such as a photosensitive drum is primarily transferred onto a belt-shaped intermediate transfer member, and the unfixed toner image is transferred from the intermediate transfer member onto a recording medium. There are known a secondary transfer type and a type in which an unfixed toner image formed on a photosensitive drum is directly transferred onto a recording medium.
[0003]
Here, in the case where a developing device corresponding to each color of black (K), yellow (Y), magenta (M), and cyan (C) is provided and a full color image is formed by superimposing unfixed toner images of the respective colors, In an image forming apparatus that is not provided with a transfer body, unfixed toner images of respective colors are directly multiplex-transferred onto a recording medium.
[0004]
On the other hand, in an image forming apparatus provided with an intermediate transfer member, for example, as described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 49-209 or Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 62-206567, the image forming apparatus is formed every rotation of the photosensitive drum. The unfixed toner images of the respective colors are superposed on the intermediate transfer member, and this composite image is collectively transferred onto the recording medium.
[0005]
In the secondary transfer portion, contact-type transfer means such as a transfer roll is in contact with the intermediate transfer body, and the paper is sandwiched between the contact portions. At this time, a transfer bias voltage having a polarity opposite to that of the toner is applied to the transfer roll, and the toner image on the intermediate transfer member is primarily transferred onto the paper.
[0006]
However, in the image forming apparatus having such a configuration, if a toner image larger than the size of the paper is formed on the intermediate transfer member, the toner image directly contacts the surface of the transfer roll, and the contact portion The toner adheres to the surface of the transfer roll due to the transfer bias voltage. Further, since the toner attached to the surface of the transfer roll is attached to the back surface of the paper, there is a problem that the back surface of the paper becomes dirty.
[0007]
In order to solve such problems, for example, in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-313525 or Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-210316, the toner on the transfer roll is transferred to the intermediate transfer member side contrary to the normal transfer. Thus, a technique for cleaning the surface of a transfer roll by executing a reverse transfer sequence in which a high voltage opposite to that during secondary transfer is applied to the transfer roll is disclosed.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the image forming apparatus configured as described above, if a paper jam occurs during the conveyance of the paper, the toner image on the transfer belt is directly transferred to the transfer roll, and thus a large amount of toner adheres to the transfer roll surface. become. If such a large amount of toner adheres, the reverse transfer sequence alone cannot be sufficiently cleaned, and there is a problem that the back side of the paper is soiled at the next secondary transfer.
[0009]
An object of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems of the prior art and to provide an image forming apparatus capable of sufficiently removing a large amount of toner adhering to the surface of a transfer roll due to a paper jam.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, according to the present invention, in the image forming apparatus configured to clean the surface of the transfer roll by the contact cleaner that is in contact with the surface of the transfer roll when the transfer roll rotates during the secondary transfer. In addition to the secondary transfer, a transfer roll cleaning sequence is performed in which at least the transfer roll is rotated to clean the surface thereof.
[0011]
According to the above configuration, since the surface of the transfer roll is cleaned by the contact-type cleaner other than at the time of secondary transfer, toner contamination of the transfer roll can be prevented and toner contamination that may occur on the back surface of the recording paper can be prevented. become.

[0037]
In each of the above-described embodiments, the transfer roll cleaning sequence of the present invention has been described as being executed in the return sequence after a paper jam or in the inspection sequence started at the start after the return sequence. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and may be executed unconditionally before image formation is performed regardless of the presence or absence of a paper jam.

【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, the following effects are achieved.
(1) The transfer roll cleaning sequence is executed at times other than the secondary transfer to clean the surface of the transfer roll, so that toner contamination of the transfer roll is prevented and toner contamination that may occur on the back side of the recording paper can be prevented. An unfixed toner image developed on the surface of the image carrier is primarily transferred to an intermediate transfer member, and then secondarily transferred onto a recording medium conveyed between the intermediate transfer member and a transfer roll. In the image forming apparatus in which when the transfer roll rotates, the transfer roll surface is cleaned by a contact cleaner that is in contact with the surface of the transfer roll.
An inspection sequence including a density control process for forming a predetermined toner image on the surface of the image carrier, detecting the density thereof to determine image forming conditions, and removing the predetermined toner image;
A transfer roll cleaning sequence that rotates at least the transfer roll and cleans the surface thereof;
A secondary transfer resistance detection process that determines the image forming conditions by detecting the resistance of the secondary transfer portion,
In addition to the secondary transfer time period, the secondary transfer resistance detection process is performed after the transfer roll cleaning sequence is started after the density detection of the inspection sequence is completed and executed in parallel with the inspection sequence. An image forming apparatus.
