Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an ink jet printer, and more particularly to an ink jet printer in which a plurality of heads including head plates having different bending elastic moduli with respect to the displacement direction of piezoelectric elements are mounted in an interchangeable manner.
[0002]
In recent years, ink jet printers that record ink particles by directly spraying them onto the print medium are rapidly becoming popular because there are no restrictions on the print medium, high-speed printing is possible, low noise, and easy colorization. It's getting on.
[0003]
The head of this ink jet printer includes, for example, a plurality of pressure chambers formed of a nozzle plate having nozzles, a flow path plate, an elastic member, and a pressure plate, and a piezoelectric element is disposed on each pressure plate, thereby selectively selecting the piezoelectric element. A voltage is applied to each of the pressure chambers, and pressure is applied to each pressure chamber filled with ink through a pressure plate by displacement due to electrostriction, and ink is ejected from the nozzles to form dot printing on the paper.
[0004]
In order to increase the printing speed of this ink jet printer, it is necessary to increase the number of nozzles. However, when multiple colors of ink are mounted, the number of nozzles increases in proportion to the number of colors, and as a result, the head becomes larger. Also, a memory capacity is required, resulting in an expensive printer.

[0008]
The ink tank 11 is common to a plurality of nozzles and contains ink to be supplied to the head unit 10a. In the case of a color printer, the nozzles are divided into a plurality of groups, and inks of different colors are supplied. In this case, the ink common flow path and the ink tank 11 are also divided for each color.
[0009]
Accordingly, while the carrier 2 moves, the print head 1 ejects ink from the nozzles to form prints on the paper 7a with matrix dots. The sheet 7a is fed in the direction of arrow C by the rotation of the feed roller R.
[0010]
Next, regarding the head portion 10a, in Japanese Patent Application No. 3-51185 by the present applicant, a part of the flow path plate is made of an elastic member, and the pressure chamber is elastically displaced by the electrostriction of the piezoelectric element. An ink jet head that ejects ink by changing the pressure of the ink has been proposed.
[0011]
As shown in a perspective view of the head portion in FIG. 10, a perspective plan view of the head portion in FIG. 11 (a), and a side sectional view of a part of the head portion in FIG. 11 (b), the head plate 12a has nozzles 9 1 , 9 2 ,... (For example, a hole diameter of 30 to 50 μm), a

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
According to the conventional method, a large number of nozzles are provided to increase the recording speed. However, when a plurality of colors of ink are mounted, the number of nozzles increases in proportion to the number of colors, and as a result, the head Increase in size. In addition, a memory capacity provided in the control unit is also required, resulting in an expensive printer.
[0018]
In order to avoid this and obtain an inexpensive printer having a certain recording speed, it is advantageous to increase only the number of nozzles for a specific color. For example, in the case of a print head for monochrome printing, since the printing frequency is high, the number of nozzles is increased to increase the printing speed by simultaneous printing of two lines, etc., and multiple color inks are used for color graphic printing. In the case of an installed print head, a method of reducing the number of nozzles for each color can be considered.
[0019]
However, in a print head with a large number of nozzles, as shown in FIG. 12A, the head plate 12a is generated in the

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Examples 1 to 7 of the present invention will be described below with reference to FIGS. The same reference numerals denote the same objects throughout the drawings.
[0035]
1) Example 1
FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing Example 1 of the present invention. As shown in the drawing, in the plurality of head portions 10A and 10B, the piezoelectric elements 8a 1 , 8a 2 ,..., 8b 1 , 8b 2 ,. The end faces are joined vertically (side shoot type head), and the head plates 12a and 12b are three plate (a to c layer) flow

[0037]
Here, the formation method of the head portions 10A and 10B will be described. First, the pressure plates 14a 1 , 14a 2 , 14b 1 , 14b 2 , common ink are formed on the
[0038]
With such a configuration, the flexural modulus of the head portion 10A with the larger number of nozzles is high, and even if the ink 6a is ejected from a large number of nozzles at a time, the head portion 10A can be prevented from bending.
[0039]
Therefore, black printing can be performed at a high speed by the head unit 10A, and other colors (yellow, cyan, magenta) can be performed at a relatively low speed by the head unit 10B. Only the head portion 10A that requires a high flexural modulus can be made of a hard material, so that the elastic modulus can be increased, the bending at the time of driving can be prevented, the print quality can be ensured, and it can be manufactured at a low cost. Even if the flexural modulus is changed, the thickness is made equal, so that the step is eliminated, and the wipe (nozzle cleaning tool) having the same shape can be used, and it is not necessary to replace the wipe etc. for each of the head portions 10A and 10B.

2) Example 2
FIG. 3 is a side sectional view showing the second embodiment. The second embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that the thickness of the nozzle plate is changed by setting the thickness of the head plate to the same thickness in order to obtain a different flexural modulus.

[0048]
The elastic members 16a and 16b are formed of silicone rubber having a low Young's modulus (similar to the forming method described in the conventional example), and in order to make the thickness of the elastic members 16a and 16b uniform when formed, each of the elastic members 16a and 16b , Spacers Sa 1 , Sa 2 ,..., Sb 1 , Sb 2 ,.

Since the elastic members 16a and 16b are soft, the head plate 12a can be easily bent by the pressure generated in the pressure chambers 14a 1 , 14a 2 ,..., 14b 1 , 14b 2 ,. The thickness of 13a can be increased, and the head plate 12b can be coped with by laminating the dry film 20 on the

The substrate 21 is formed in a state where the

[0060]
Therefore, by forming the head plates 12a and 12b having different flexural moduli on the common substrate 21, there is no need for alignment, and the separately manufactured head plates 12a and 12b are aligned and mounted on the printer. Compared to the above, the manufacturing is easy and the manufacturing accuracy can be increased.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention,
(1) Only a head plate that requires a high bending elastic modulus can be made of a hard material, and the elastic modulus can be increased, and it can be manufactured at a low cost. The nozzle surface can be cleaned with the same shape of wipe, etc., and there is no need to replace the wipe etc. for each print head.
[0063]
(2) By forming head plates with different bending elastic moduli on a common substrate such as a nozzle, the positional accuracy can be improved rather than positioning the head plates with different bending elastic moduli separately. In addition, manufacturing can be facilitated.
[0064]
(3) When simultaneously mounting or replacing the print heads with different numbers of nozzles formed in one row, arrange a head plate with a high elastic modulus on the print head with the larger number of nozzles and make it the same thickness. This allows high-frequency black printing to be performed at high speed with the print head having the larger number of nozzles, and less frequent color printing to be performed at a relatively low speed with the print head having the smaller number of nozzles, and deflection during driving can be achieved. Thus, it is possible to obtain a printer with high printing speed at a low cost while preventing printing quality. There is an effect.
