Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to multimedia information having a plurality of clients for viewing a presentation configured by combining media information including document media such as still images and text, and streaming media such as audio, video, animation, and graphics. It relates to a processing device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Traditionally, a digital document can be marked, a personal note can be written, or an author can be annotated, much like a memo or a marker can be written on a printed document. There has been proposed a system for providing feedback to the user. In the future, as networking advances and multimedia documents become more widespread, support technologies for editing such digital documents will become very important in the case of performing collaborative work on a network.
[0003]
For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-189431 discloses a system capable of annotating a document composed of pages, such as a presentation using a so-called OHP. The system described in this publication is capable of annotating document media that does not include streaming media such as text, graphics, and images without impairing the integrity of the original document. In this system, the annotation is not written on the original document by writing the annotation on a separate layer from the document. This is a technology that is possible only with digital documents.
[0004]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. Hei 7-182282 discloses a technique for adding annotations to a document shared by a plurality of computers. With this technology, when displaying a common image on multiple computers connected to a network, the user can annotate the image and store the annotation data in a location different from the image data It is to do. The annotations are also displayed on other computers on the network. This technology provides an electronic conferencing system that allows multiple members participating in a conference to see at a glance which part of the image the other member's interaction (memos, annotations, questions, etc.) was added to. can do.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Here, it is assumed that a presentation is stored on a server and members in a specific group watch the presentation. In such a case, each member should know where other members are looking, where they are interested, where they are not interested, and where they have questions and opinions. Knowing this is very useful in sharing information within the group. Also, it is important for the sender of the presentation to know the above-mentioned reaction of the recipient in order to make a better presentation. In addition, in the case of a meeting on a network based on a presentation, the meeting chairperson must know whether the meeting members have seen the presentation and whether they correctly understand the presentation. Is important to stimulate discussions at meetings. Therefore, it is required to add interaction information (mark information) such as an annotation to the presentation so that the members can share the information.
[0006]
However, the conventional technology of specifying a certain place (spatial and temporal) in a presentation and adding mark information is mainly related to document media composed of pages, and is a streaming media having a time axis. However, there is a problem that the mark information cannot be appropriately added to a predetermined range of the streaming media only with a technique for indicating a specific “point” on the time axis for the purpose of search. In other words, according to the conventional technology, only one point on one time axis can be pointed for streaming media, and mark information (information such as read or unread) for a media mix presentation. The problem is that the content such as "where (on the time axis) and where" or "what part of the presentation or what media content" is missing even if the corresponding There is.
[0007]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a multimedia information processing apparatus which can appropriately manage mark information in association with streaming media constituting a presentation, and can easily and appropriately share the correspondence of the mark information among a plurality of terminals. Is to provide.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An object of the present invention is to provide a multimedia information processing apparatus having a server and a plurality of clients connected to the server via a network, wherein each client transmits a plurality of media information including stream media having a time axis in a temporal space. The invention is attained by a multimedia information processing apparatus comprising: a marking information calculating means for generating.
[0009]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
A multimedia information processing apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. First, the overall configuration of the multimedia information processing apparatus according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
This multimedia information processing apparatus has a plurality of (three in FIG. 1) clients A, B, and C, and a server S. Each of the clients A, B, and C and the server S Connected through.

Here, the concept of the playback schedule (score) of the multimedia presentation based on the playback scenario file shown in FIG. 3 will be described using FIG. 4 and FIG. In FIG. 4, the horizontal axis indicates time, and the vertical axis indicates space (window number or audio) for reproduction, and each rectangle indicates each medium. FIG. 5 shows a state of the multimedia presentation at time t = tp.
According to FIGS. 4 and 5, at time t = tp, media a is played in window W1, media b is played in window W2, media c is played in window W3, and media d is played in audio. I understand.
[0015]
Next, a basic multimedia reproducing operation of the present multimedia information viewing apparatus will be described with reference to FIG. This operation is started when the user presses the play button PLAY of the presentation on the display screen shown in FIG.
First, the scenario interpreting unit 5 reads out the playback scenario 200 of the corresponding presentation from the playback scenario management unit 2 (step S1). Next, the scenario interpreting section 5 reads the

[0017]
Next, mark information associated with media included in a presentation will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 7 shows an example in which mark information prepared as default (default) and mark information defined by the user are managed in one file (user definition file 201).
The
[0018]
In the user definition file shown in FIG. 7, for example, mark information that is set by default and indicates that viewing and listening has been completed, a symbol has already been performed, and skip processing is to be performed is defined. Also, the mark information is set by default to indicate that it is an important part, and mark information with a symbol ◎ or a part that is set by the user (me) and should be reproduced slowly later, and the symbol Yes, mark information for performing slow play processing is also defined. The symbol indicates that the part is set by the user himself and is a common sense, the symbol is △, the mark information indicating that the fast play processing is performed, and the symbol indicates that the part is set by the user and should be considered carefully. Is an asterisk (*), and mark information for pausing is defined. The mark information can be defined by the user using the mark definition unit 8. This allows the user to customize and personalize the presentation as needed to create and view his own presentation.
[0019]
It is useful to define general-purpose mark information in advance. For example, if the mark information (symbol ◎) that indicates importance is defined and the mark information (symbol ◎) is added to important media that the author of the presentation wants to see, the media of the presentation The symbol に つ い て can be displayed for the medium associated with the mark information when the is played back, and the recipient can pay attention. In addition, it is possible to save time by picking up and playing back only a portion of the medium associated with the mark information.
[0020]
Next, an operation of associating the mark information with the media included in the presentation will be described.
If the user wants to associate the mark information with a specific medium during the execution of the presentation, the user designates the desired medium of the presentation being reproduced by the visual
[0021]
For example, when associating the mark information of the symbol ★, the symbol ★ of the mark information is selected on the screen by using the
[0022]
When a plurality of semantic contents are simultaneously associated with the same medium, it is possible to associate a plurality of mark information or add another definition of semantic contents to already associated mark information. is there. When associating a plurality of mark information, the presentation may be rewound and played back once, and then the other mark information may be associated again. In the case where another definition of the meaning content is added to the already associated mark information The mark definition unit 8 may define a plurality of meaning contents in the mark information. In addition, the user can redefine the definition of the mark information once associated by the mark definition unit 8, so that the meaning of the mark information can be changed collectively. For example, if the definition of a process is deleted when the defined process is no longer necessary, the process is not performed in a portion associated with the mark information of the process. According to this, it is not necessary to change the association of the mark information one by one.
[0023]
Next, an example of a mark information file for managing mark information in association with a predetermined time of a medium will be described with reference to FIG. In this embodiment, a markup information file of a two-dimensional map is used so that the relation with the presentation playback scenario can be easily understood.
The marking information file has the same number of layers as the number of the mark information, and each layer stores the association of each mark information. Each layer is a two-dimensional map in which the horizontal axis represents time and the vertical axis represents media. The sampling interval of time on the horizontal axis may be an arbitrary interval (for example, in units of 1 second). In FIG. 8, each layer has one bit of information in units of one second for each medium. In the initial state, all bits of each layer are in a state of “0”.
[0024]
As shown in FIG. 9, each layer of the marking information file is set with either a Public attribute indicating that the layer may be made public or a Private attribute indicating that the layer is not allowed to be made public. I have. Note that the user can use the mark definition unit 8 to define the attribute of “Public” or “Private” for each layer.
[0025]
Next, an operation of associating the mark information will be described.
The marking information management unit 9 sets the corresponding media and time bits to “1” based on the instruction from the marking
By managing the mark information in this way, it is possible to easily perform the calculation when performing the processing defined in the mark information as described later.
[0026]
Next, a description will be given of an operation of associating mark information (unread read mark information) indicating read with a medium that has already been reproduced.
The operation of associating the unread read mark information with the medium is performed when the user turns on an option to attach an unread read mark and starts playback of the presentation.
In this operation, the basic multimedia reproducing operation shown in FIG. 6 described above is performed, and the scenario interpreting unit 5 sequentially reads out the corresponding media according to the reproducing scenario 200, and executes the visual

Next, the presentation playback operation when the user interrupts the presentation playback at time tc in FIG. 10 and then gives an instruction to play the subsequent presentation will be described.
When the user instructs the playback
[0028]
Specifically, the playback
According to the above operation, a scenario in which the read portion is skipped and the other portions are left as nothing, that is, a scenario file in which only the unread portion is reproduced is generated.
When the presentation playback is performed using the created playback scenario file as shown in FIG. 6, the presentation from time tc is played back.
[0029]
Next, an operation when a presentation is reproduced based on the association of a plurality of mark information will be described with reference to FIG.
Here, the marking information file of the marking information management unit 9 includes layers of important mark information (symbol ◎) assigned by the author and slow reproduction mark information (symbol ★) assigned by the user to perform slow reproduction. It is assumed that each piece of mark information is associated with a score in normal reproduction as shown in FIG. Further, it is assumed that, in the
[0030]
When the user instructs to play back the presentation, and further inputs (On, Off) whether or not each mark information whose layer is managed by the markup information management unit 9 is effective for playing back the presentation (Step). (S11), (On, Off) for each mark information is sent to the reproduction scenario calculation unit 6 (step S12). In this example, it is assumed that the slow reproduction mark information and the important mark information are set to On.
[0031]
Next, the reproduction
[0032]
The above processing (steps S14 to S17) is performed for all the mark information for which On is set (step S18). As a result, a two-dimensional map in which the association of a plurality of pieces of mark information is added as shown in FIG. 13 is created. In FIG. 13, ◎ indicates that processing for displaying a symbol is performed, and ★ indicates that slow reproduction is performed. Thereafter, the reproduction
[0033]
When the scenario interpretation unit 5 performs a presentation based on the playback scenario file generated as described above, slow playback is performed in a portion (time) associated with the slow playback mark information, and the important mark information is associated with the slow playback mark information. The symbol ◎ is displayed in the display window of the corresponding media in the presentation in the portion indicated by the symbol.
At this time, it is preferable to display the time for displaying the symbol ◎ corresponding to the important mark information longer than the time to which the important mark information is associated, and particularly to display the symbol ◎ before the time to which the important mark information is associated. It is desirable. This is because the user associates the important mark information by the marking
[0034]
In the above processing, there may be a case where different mark information is attached to the same part on the score, and the processing of the mark information may not be compatible. The processing may be performed based on the priority. For example, it is easy to change the order in which the operations are performed to give priority to the processing of the mark information.
[0035]
Next, a process of detecting an unread medium when a new medium is added in the read range of the scenario file will be described.
First, the playback
[0036]
In this way, the user can freely associate mark information such as annotation, memo writing, media processing, etc., with a specific part in a complex presentation composed of a plurality of media. In addition, it is possible to manage the read / unread details in detail, and to easily understand important parts of the presentation, so that the presentation can be viewed efficiently.
[0037]
Next, the operation of transmitting the marking information between the clients A, B, and C and the server S will be described with reference to FIG.
The marking information transmission unit 11 transmits the marking information from the marking information management unit 9 when the user finishes watching the presentation or when a specific event occurs, such as when the user gives an annotation. Read (step S21). Next, the marking information transmission unit 11 interprets the attribute set for each layer in the marking information (step S22), and if the attribute is Public, converts the layer into a transmission file (tmp). On the other hand, if the attribute is Private, nothing is done (steps S23 and S24). Then, the above processing steps S22 to S24 are performed for all layers in the marking information file (step S25).
[0038]
Next, the marking information transmission unit 11 writes a client ID such as an identifier of the client or a user ID operating the client in a file for transmission (step S26), and further writes the mark stored in the mark definition unit 8. The information is written in a file for transmission (step S27). FIG. 17 shows a file for transmission at this time. Thereafter, the marking information transmitting unit 11 establishes a connection with the marking information transmitting unit 23 of the server S so that data can be transmitted and received on the communication protocol, and the transmission file is marked. 23 (step S28). The marking information transmitting unit 23 receives the files for transmission from the marking information transmitting units 11 of the plurality of clients A, B, and C connected via the network N, and sends the files to the mark
[0039]
In the present embodiment, the system automatically sends the marking information or the like without the user's knowledge. However, for example, a marking information transmission button or the like is provided, and the user explicitly specifies the button. It is effective to transmit only when instructed by the user in consideration of protection of the privacy of the user. Further, in the present embodiment, the client ID is transmitted to the server S, but the client ID does not always need to be transmitted. For example, when respecting the privacy of the user, the client ID may not be transmitted together with the marking information. If the marking information is transmitted to the server S regardless of the user's intention, it is better not to transmit the client ID.
[0040]
Next, an operation of the server S for generating shared marking information from the marking information from the clients A, B, and C will be described with reference to FIG. Shared markup information is integrated information about how multiple users who have viewed a shared presentation with multiple clients have interacted with the presentation, who has watched which part of the presentation, This is information obtained by integrating information such as whether a part is annotated or where an important mark is added for a plurality of clients (users).
Here, a case will be described in which each client manages the association between the read / unread mark information, the important mark information, and the memo mark information.
In the present embodiment, this operation is started when the marking

In the above-described embodiment, the shared marking information in which the marking information relating to the plurality of mark information is integrated is determined. However, the shared marking information in which the marking information relating to any one of the mark information is integrated is determined. Is also good.
[0048]
Next, the operation when the presentation is reproduced in the clients A, B, and C based on the shared mark information will be described.

According to this, as shown in FIG. 21, a presentation is executed in which mark information M associated with a plurality of users is displayed at an appropriate timing and at an appropriate place.
Therefore, the user can grasp the mark information associated with a plurality of users during the presentation.
[0050]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, a user can appropriately associate mark information such as annotation, memo writing, media processing, etc., with a complex presentation composed of a plurality of media, and furthermore, mark information. Can be shared on the network. Thereby, the association of the mark information with the presentation can be easily shared without increasing the user's work load, and a plurality of users can quickly and accurately use the association of the mark information.
