Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus that forms an image by causing an electrostatic force to act on ink formed by dispersing colorant particles in an insulating liquid, and causing ink droplets to fly toward a recording medium.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, in the field of personal printers, ink jet printers using an ink jet recording method have been widely used. However, conventional ink-jet printers have problems such as poor image storability and light resistance because they use dye-based ink.
[0003]
On the other hand, WO93 / 11866 discloses an image forming apparatus which enables the use of pigment particles as a coloring agent and solves the above-mentioned problems of the dye ink. This device includes a conductive ink supply tube, a predetermined voltage is applied to the ink supply tube, and a predetermined electric field is formed between the ink supply tube and a counter electrode facing the tip. Then, ink containing pigment particles (hereinafter, referred to as charged toner) charged to the same polarity as the potential of the ink supply tube is supplied toward the tip of the ink supply tube through the inside of the ink supply tube. The recording medium on which an image is formed is interposed between the tip of the ink supply tube and the counter electrode.
[0004]
The charged toner in the ink receives an electrostatic attraction force from the counter electrode at a discharge point near the tip of the ink supply tube due to the electric field formed between the tip of the ink supply tube and the counter electrode, thereby supplying the ink. A semicircular ink meniscus is formed near the tip of the tube. However, the charged toner cannot fly from the ink meniscus due to the surface tension of the ink solvent, and stays at the tip of the ink meniscus. In this way, a large amount of charged toner collects at the tip of the ink meniscus and forms toner aggregates.
[0005]
When the voltage applied to the ink supply tube is further increased, the electric field from the tip of the ink supply tube to the counter electrode is strengthened, and the electrostatic attraction acting on the toner aggregates exceeds the surface tension of the solvent of the ink. From the toner aggregate and fly toward the recording medium. Then, the toner aggregate flying from the ink meniscus forms a predetermined image on the recording medium.
[0006]
In the image forming apparatus based on the above-described flying principle, since there is no nozzle for determining the size of the flying droplet as in the conventional inkjet recording, pigment particles can be used. This solves the problems of the conventional ink-jet printer, such as the image storability and light fastness.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the conventional image forming apparatus using the ink containing the charged toner also has the following problems.
In other words, when a conventional image forming apparatus causes ink droplets to fly, when a predetermined voltage is applied to the ink supply tube, an electric field is formed from the tip of the ink supply tube to the opposing electrode, and ink is supplied within the ink supply tube. An undesired electric field is generated in the opposite direction. When an electric field is generated in the ink supply tube in a direction opposite to the ink supply direction, an electrostatic force acts on the charged toner in the ink in a direction opposite to the ink supply direction, and the charged toner in the ink is supplied to the ink supply tube. It does not flow smoothly toward the end of the tube. As a result, the concentration efficiency of the charged toner on the tip of the ink supply tube is reduced, and it takes a long time to aggregate the amount of the charged toner required for flying on the tip of the ink meniscus, and achieves a high ejection frequency. You can't do that. Further, if the ejection frequency is increased in such a situation, there is a problem that the toner density of the flying ink droplets is reduced and the image density is reduced.
[0008]
An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming apparatus capable of efficiently concentrating toner, obtaining a high ejection frequency, and forming a high-density image.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, an image forming apparatus according to the present invention has an opening of a first size facing a recording medium at a predetermined distance, and an ink supply path formed by an insulating member. And an electrode provided around the opening and having an opening having a diameter of a second size greater than or equal to a first size, and an ink formed by dispersing charged coloring agent particles in an insulating liquid, Supply means for supplying the ink to the opening via the ink supply path, and aggregating means for applying a bias voltage to the electrode to aggregate the colorant particles in the ink supplied by the supply means near the center of the opening And flying means for applying a discharge voltage higher than the bias voltage to the electrode to fly the colorant particles aggregated by the aggregation means toward the recording medium.
[0010]
According to the above-described image forming apparatus, ink formed by dispersing charged colorant particles in an insulating liquid is supplied to an opening facing a recording medium via an ink supply path formed by an insulating member. Then, a bias voltage is applied to the electrodes provided around the opening, and the colorant particles are aggregated near the center of the opening. At this time, since the ink supply path is formed by an insulating member and the opening of the electrode is set to be larger than the opening of the ink supply path, the electric field formed around the electrode may act on the ink supply path. Be suppressed.
[0011]
Therefore, the coloring material particles can be efficiently concentrated near the opening without an electrostatic force acting in the opposite direction to the supply direction acting on the coloring material particles in the ink flowing toward the opening in the ink supply path. Thereby, a high ejection frequency can be achieved, and a high-density image without blur can be formed.
[0012]
In addition, the image forming apparatus of the present invention is configured such that an insulating base material, a plurality of openings having a diameter of a first size are formed on one surface of the base material, and each of the openings substantially penetrates the base material. A plurality of ink supply passages extending vertically downward, and openings provided on the one surface of the base material around the openings and having a diameter of a second size equal to or greater than the first size. A plurality of electrodes having a plurality of electrodes, a supply means for supplying an ink formed by dispersing charged colorant particles in an insulating liquid to each of the openings via the ink supply paths, and Collecting means for collecting excess ink overflowing from each opening, and aggregating means for applying a bias voltage to each of the electrodes and aggregating the colorant particles in the ink supplied by the supplying means near the center of each of the openings And a discharge voltage higher than the bias voltage is applied to an electrode selected in accordance with an image signal. Selectively applying a voltage colorant particles aggregate at the aggregation unit and a, a flying means of flying toward the recording medium.
[0013]
Further, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes an insulating base, an ink storage chamber storing ink formed by dispersing charged coloring agent particles in an insulating liquid, and a plurality of first bases on one surface of the base. A plurality of ink supply passages, each having an opening having a diameter of 1 and communicating with the ink storage chamber from each of the openings and extending in a substantially vertical direction; A plurality of electrodes provided around and having openings having a diameter of a second size greater than or equal to the first size, and each of the inks provided between the one surface of the base material and the ink storage chamber. A grounded metal sheet having a plurality of holes corresponding to the supply path, supply means for supplying the ink in the ink storage chamber to the openings via the ink supply paths, and a bias voltage applied to the electrodes; To apply the colorant particles in the ink supplied by the supply means. The aggregating means for aggregating near the center of each opening, and the colorant particles agglomerated by the aggregating means by selectively applying an ejection voltage higher than the bias voltage to an electrode selected in accordance with an image signal. Flying means for flying toward a recording medium.
[0014]
According to the image forming apparatus, a grounded metal sheet is provided between one surface of the base material and the ink storage chamber. This metal sheet suppresses an undesired electric field directed to the ink supply path and the ink storage chamber from acting on the colorant particles in the ink when a predetermined voltage is applied to an electrode provided on one surface of the base material. I do. Therefore, the electrostatic force acting in the opposite direction to the ink supply direction on the colorant particles in the ink is suppressed, and the colorant particles can be efficiently concentrated.
[0015]
Further, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes an insulating base, an ink storage chamber storing ink formed by dispersing charged coloring agent particles in an insulating liquid, and a plurality of first bases on one surface of the base. A plurality of ink supply passages, each having an opening having a diameter of 1 and communicating with the ink storage chamber from each of the openings and extending in a substantially vertical direction; A plurality of electrodes provided around and having an opening having a diameter of a second size greater than or equal to the first size, and disposed between the one surface of the base material and the ink storage chamber; A grounded metal sheet having a plurality of holes corresponding to the respective ink supply paths, a grounded metal film provided on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber, and the ink in the ink storage section. Supply means for supplying to each of the openings via An aggregating means for applying and aggregating the colorant particles in the ink supplied by the supplying means to the vicinity of the center of each of the openings, and an ejection voltage higher than the bias voltage is selected for an electrode selected according to an image signal. Flying means for causing the colorant particles aggregated by the aggregating means to fly toward the recording medium.
[0016]
According to the image forming apparatus, the metal sheet is provided between one surface of the base material and the ink supply chamber, and the grounded metal film is provided on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber. By providing a grounded metal film on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber, the potential in the ink supply chamber can be uniformly maintained.
[0017]
For example, when the colorant particles adhere to the inner wall of the ink storage chamber and the colorant particles are locally unevenly distributed, an undesired electric field is locally generated in the ink storage chamber, and uneven electric potential unevenness occurs in the ink storage chamber. As a result, the colorant particles cannot be uniformly supplied to each ink supply path. For this reason, a grounded metal film is provided on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber to make the potential in the ink storage chamber uniform. Thereby, the supply unevenness of the colorant particles can be prevented, and the colorant particles can be efficiently aggregated.
[0018]
Further, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes an insulating base, an ink storage chamber storing ink formed by dispersing charged coloring agent particles in an insulating liquid, and a plurality of first bases on one surface of the base. A plurality of ink supply passages, each having an opening having a diameter of 1 and communicating with the ink storage chamber from each of the openings and extending in a substantially vertical direction; A plurality of first electrodes provided around and having openings having a diameter of a second size greater than or equal to the first size; and a plurality of first electrodes provided on a bottom surface of the ink storage chamber in correspondence with the ink supply path. A plurality of second electrodes, a supply unit that supplies ink in the ink storage chamber to the openings via the ink supply paths, and a bias voltage applied to the first and second electrodes. An electric field from each second electrode to the recording medium via the ink supply path is generated. And forming an electric field from each of the first electrodes toward the recording medium to direct the colorant particles in the ink stored in the ink storage chamber to each of the ink supply paths, Aggregating means for aggregating the colorant particles in the ink supplied through the passage near the center of each of the openings, and an ejection voltage higher than the bias voltage to the first and second electrodes selected according to an image signal And a flying means for selectively applying the colorant to fly the colorant particles aggregated by the aggregation means toward the recording medium.
[0019]
According to the image forming apparatus, the plurality of second electrodes corresponding to the ink supply passages are provided on the bottom surface of the ink storage chamber. The same voltage as that of the first electrode provided on one surface of the base material is applied to these second electrodes. As described above, by applying a predetermined voltage to the second electrodes provided below the ink supply path, electric fields are formed from each of the second electrodes to the recording medium via the ink supply path, and the electric field causes the ink to flow through the ink supply path. The colorant particles inside are moved toward the opening. Therefore, the colorant particles can be efficiently concentrated at the opening of the ink supply path.
[0020]
Further, the image forming apparatus of the present invention has an ink storage chamber for storing ink formed by dispersing charged colorant particles in an insulating liquid, and an ink storage chamber having a first size opposed to a recording medium by a predetermined distance. An ink supply path having an opening having a diameter and extending from the opening to the ink storage chamber; and an opening provided around the opening and having a second size larger than the first size. A first electrode, a second electrode provided in the ink storage chamber corresponding to the ink supply path, and a hole provided between the opening and the ink storage chamber and corresponding to the ink supply path. A grounded metal sheet, a grounded metal film provided on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber, and a supply unit that supplies the ink in the ink storage unit to the opening via the ink supply path; A bias voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes. And forming an electric field from the second electrode to the recording medium via the ink supply path, and forming an electric field from the first electrode to the recording medium, the ink stored in the ink storage chamber. Aggregating means for directing the colorant particles in the ink supply path to the ink supply path, and for aggregating the colorant particles in the ink supplied through the ink supply path near the center of the opening; Flying means for applying an ejection voltage higher than the bias voltage to the two electrodes to fly the colorant particles aggregated by the aggregation means toward the recording medium.
[0021]
Further, the image forming apparatus of the present invention has an ink storage chamber for storing ink formed by dispersing charged colorant particles in an insulating liquid, and an ink storage chamber having a first size opposed to the recording medium by a predetermined distance. A grounded metal sheet, a grounded metal film provided on the inner wall of the ink storage chamber, and a supply unit that supplies the ink in the ink storage unit to the opening via the ink supply path; Supplied by the supply means and overflows from the opening A collection unit for collecting surplus ink; and applying a bias voltage to the first and second electrodes to form an electric field from the second electrode to the recording medium via the ink supply path, and An electric field is formed from the electrode to the recording medium, and the colorant particles in the ink stored in the ink storage chamber are directed to the ink supply path, and the colorant particles in the ink supplied through the ink supply path are An aggregating means for aggregating the colorant particles near the center of the opening; and applying a discharge voltage higher than the bias voltage to the first and second electrodes to cause the aggregating means to agglutinate the colorant particles by the aggregating means on the recording medium.
