そのための孔は、ドリル、EDM(放電加工、electron discharge method)技術などによって形成することができる。
【0040】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for repairing a core shroud of a nuclear reactor. In particular, the method and apparatus of the present invention provide a boiling water reactor shroud for safe operation of the reactor, even when there are extensive cracks along the heat affected area of the horizontal weld. Plate) repair.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Boiling water reactor shrouds are concentrically disposed within a reactor vessel to distribute the flow of cooling water through the reactor vessel and provide fuel assemblies, steam and water. A steam separator assembly and a control rod guide tube are structurally supported and aligned. The shroud is generally cylindrical and is usually formed of a plurality of arcuate steel plates having a thickness of about one and a half inches. The plates of each horizontal level of the shroud are joined by welding along relatively short vertical edges butted, surrounding the reactor at that level. The different adjacent levels of plates are welded and joined horizontally along the relatively long butted arched edges. Over time, corrosion, radiation and stress tend to crack the shroud in areas affected by the heat in the weld. The cracks in the vertical welds are such that the length of these welds is relatively short relative to the overall length of the shroud, and the function of the shroud (ie, the support and alignment of the nuclear fuel assembly, and the flow of reactor coolant) Is not considered to be adversely affected, and is therefore considered acceptable. In particular, the vertical welds of adjacent levels are angularly offset around the perimeter of the shroud so that the cracks in the weld can extend at most to that level of axis or vertical length. However, if a crack occurs along a longer horizontal or circumferential weld, the crack may spread around the entire circumference or perimeter of the shroud, which may result in relative lateral movement between plate levels. is there. Accordingly, such excessive cracks may prevent the core from supporting or aligning the fuel assembly, leading to or obstructing the flow of coolant improperly and leaking coolant. It is possible.
[0003]
If excessive cracks develop in the horizontal weld, the shroud must be replaced or repaired. Replacement is definitely the preferred method, as replacement is costly, results in a relatively long outage, and potential radiation exposure to workers. Repair techniques typically include bolting a bracket to a vertically adjacent plate across the crack in the weld. This method requires multiple brackets for each crack, depending on the length of the crack. In addition, after the repair, it is necessary to separately check that the repaired weld has no further cracks and that another weld has no new cracks.
[0004]
An excellent method for on-site repair of a reactor shroud of the type having multiple levels of integrally welded arcuate plates is disclosed in U.S. patent application Ser. No. 08 / 190,796. No. 304723). The method involves inspecting the shroud for horizontal cracks along the weld, attaching multiple tie rods in a vertical orientation spaced around the perimeter of the cracked shroud and compressing the shroud axially. , Whereby the opposing surfaces of the horizontal cracks are pressed together. This repair method is relatively inexpensive, allows safe operation of the reactor in the event of excessive cracks in the horizontal weld, and provides coolant in the annular space between the shroud and vessel. It does not obstruct the flow much.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a method for repairing a reactor shroud as described above, wherein coaxial longitudinal members separated by small radial gaps are used as tie rods, and tie rods caused by the flow of reactor coolant. To prevent excessive vibration of the shroud and to prevent excessive loading of the shroud caused by thermal transients (temperature changes) in the flow.
[0006]
Another object of the present invention is to fill such small radial gaps between the coaxial longitudinal members of the tie rods with a suitable damping fluid, such as a reactor coolant. The purpose is to improve the damping coefficient of the tie rod.
[0007]
It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a method for mounting a coaxial longitudinal member on another coaxial longitudinal member only after preloading the shroud and extending a predetermined axial distance. By using tie rods with coaxial longitudinal members that transmit loads in the direction, the effect of thermal transients on the shroud is minimized.
[0008]
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a tie rod mounted in a vertical orientation about the circumference of a shroud by holding a plurality of radial spacers at longitudinally spaced locations along the longitudinal direction of the tie rod. This ensures that the rod is inserted and reduces the pre-loaded load.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In accordance with the present invention, a method of repairing a reactor shroud having at least one horizontally extending weld connecting adjacent shroud plate segments includes a method of repairing a plurality of angularly spaced around the circumference of the shroud. Mounting a plurality of tie rods having a coaxial longitudinal member separated by a radial gap at each position in a vertical orientation to axially compress the shroud, thereby allowing the heat of the weld to This includes forming horizontal cracks along the affected area and / or preventing existing horizontal cracks from propagating to opposite surfaces. One of the longitudinal members may be attached to the top and bottom of the shroud for pre-loading the shroud, or the first longitudinal member may be elastically stretched at a predetermined axial distance. After that, it is combined with another coaxially arranged longitudinal member so as to transmit an axial load from the first longitudinal member to another coaxially arranged longitudinal member. You can also. This method ensures control rod insertion by placing a plurality of radial spacers at longitudinally spaced locations along the length of the tie rod to limit longitudinal movement of the shroud. And reducing the pre-applied load required to prevent the formation of new cracks and stabilize existing cracks.
[0010]
Another aspect of the invention is that a boiling water reactor shroud assembly generally includes a shroud and a plurality of respective locations angularly spaced about the circumference of the shroud at the top and bottom of the shroud. It includes a plurality of tie rods attached to adjacent shroud sites. Each tie rod includes a plurality of coaxial longitudinal members separated by a radial gap filled with a damping fluid. One of the longitudinal members may be attached to the top and bottom of the shroud for pre-loading the shroud, or the first longitudinal member may be elastically stretched at a predetermined axial distance. And then combining with another coaxially arranged longitudinal member to transmit an axial load from the first longitudinal member to another coaxially arranged longitudinal member. You can also. Placing a plurality of radial spacers at longitudinally spaced locations along the length of the tie rod to limit longitudinal movement of the shroud, thereby ensuring control rod insertion; and Pre-applied loads required to prevent the formation of new cracks and to stabilize existing cracks can also be reduced.
[0011]
Yet another aspect of the present invention generally features a tie rod for applying a compressive force to a boiling water reactor shroud, wherein the tie rods include a plurality of coaxial rings separated by a radial gap filled with a damping fluid. Includes vertical members. The tie rod includes means for attaching one end of the coaxial longitudinal member to a portion of the shroud adjacent the top and bottom of the shroud, and the first longitudinal member extending axially over a predetermined distance. Later comprising means for coupling the at least one other coaxial longitudinal member and the first member to apply an axial load. Multiple radial spacers are placed at longitudinally spaced locations along the length of the tie rods to limit the vertical movement of the shroud to ensure control rod insertion and to allow for new cracks. It is also possible to reduce the pre-applied load required to prevent the formation of cracks and to stabilize existing cracks.
[0012]
The foregoing and other objects, features and many attendant advantages of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are indicated with the same reference numerals in each drawing. It will be more easily recognized as it becomes better understood.
[0013]
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS AND EXAMPLES
The use of the method and apparatus of the present invention for repairing a boiling water reactor shroud of the type having horizontally extending welds joining adjacent shroud plate segments is described below, while the present invention is not limited to this. The method and apparatus may also be used to restore the structural integrity of a shroud having a horizontal crack extending along the heat affected area of the horizontal weld. The term "repair" as used herein is also meant to include the use of the present invention to prevent the formation of new cracks. For example, in the case of an uncracked shroud, which is nonetheless prone to cracking along the horizontal weld, to prevent cracking after the reactor becomes operational, The method and apparatus of the present invention can be used before, during, or after shroud installation. Alternatively, when used to restore a reactor that is already in operation, the method and apparatus of the present invention can stabilize existing cracks and add new cracks while still allowing safe operation and maintenance of the reactor. Can be prevented from occurring.

[0024]
According to the present invention, tie rods are attached to the shroud in situ before the reactor is put into operation or after shutting down a reactor already in operation. Installation of tie rods may require additional equipment, but whenever possible use existing structures in the reactor. The tie rods are spaced around the circumference of the shroud in an annular space between the shroud and the reactor vessel.
[0025]
The characteristics of the shroud assembly are typically the same at a plurality of angularly spaced locations around the circumference of the shroud to which the tie rods are attached. Accordingly, the shroud assembly will be described below with reference to one angular position for clarity.

[0030]
Tie rods perform two main functions. The first function is for the tie rods to compress (squeeze) the horizontal shroud level together, in the worst case where a horizontal crack extends 360 degrees around the circumference of the shroud. The design standard vertical load capacity of tie rods for this purpose is on the order of 1.5 to 2.0 x 1,000,000 pounds, depending on the actual reactor to be repaired. Another function is to prevent the tie rods from laterally offsetting between the shroud levels (shear deflection), otherwise the shroud wall thickness is completely reduced. Cracks around the 360 ° perimeter that pass can lead to free lateral movement. The prevention of lateral displacement is achieved by pressing the opposing surfaces of the horizontal crack against each other. Depending on the reactor, the design basis lateral load due to the earthquake is about 400,000 pounds.
[0031]
In a typical tie rod installation, varying forces up to about 15 pounds can be generated as a result of reactor coolant flowing past the tie rods. Depending on the value of the vibration damping coefficient of the tie rod, such forces may cause excessive vibration and may cause the tie rod to break due to fatigue and / or wear at the mounting point.
[0032]
The present invention provides for the mounting of a tie rod consisting of a plurality of coaxial longitudinal members separated by a small radial gap filled by the coolant to reduce the varying forces generated by the reactor coolant flowing through the tie rod. Reduce the impact. A typical value for the vibration damping coefficient of a single piece (ie, solid) tie rod is about 0.5% of critical. Thus, if a single member tie rod is loaded by a 15 pound force that varies in phase at the tie rod natural frequency, a stress of about ± 22,000 psi and a tie rod deflection of about ± 0.1 inch ( (Distortion) can occur. Such stress corresponds to a force of about 15,000 pounds on each tie rod.
[0033]
Because the coaxial longitudinal members used in the present invention are closely spaced, any significant lateral vibration will cause the movement of the reactor coolant to fill the radial gap between the members, causing the members to move apart. Frictional contact between them, the tendency of the various members to vibrate at different frequencies, or any combination of the above effects. As a result, the tie rods of the present invention can have a vibration damping coefficient of over 5%, and furthermore, have a stress and deflection (ie, a low fluctuating stress of about ± 2200 psi) that of a single part tie rod. And an amplitude of about ± 0.01 inch).
[0034]
One of the mechanisms for increasing the vibration damping coefficient involves collisions and / or frictional engagement between concentric members, so collisions between members are expected. Preferably, the region of interest is formed to prevent excessive wear or other damage, for example, by increasing the amount of material at the affected location.
[0035]
As already mentioned, the main purpose of attaching the tie rod is to hold the shroud together in case of cracks along the horizontal weld. To this end, a tie rod is mounted between the top and bottom of the shroud, and it is understood that the difference in axial extension and contraction of the shroud and the tie rod causes a significant load on both structures. Would. In particular, certain reactor thermal transients can cause a large temperature difference between the tie rod and the shroud that causes the tie rod to shrink relative to the shroud.
[0036]
For example, a reactor coolant temperature difference of 260 ° F. will cause a metal temperature difference of up to about 130 ° F. and the tie rod cross-section will be reduced (accidental conditions such as steam line breaks or recirculation water line breaks) When large enough to withstand all design basis loads (including those caused by, for example), the stress on the shroud and its support plate can increase by as much as about 110,000 psi.
[0037]
The tie rods of the present invention exert a minimal load on the shroud in response to large thermal transients in the coolant flow, while sufficient to hold the cracked shroud together under light loading conditions. The use of relatively small cross-section longitudinal spring members avoids the problems associated with large thermal transients. At the same time, a structure in which a load is applied in the axial direction only when a sudden condition occurs that causes the vertical spring member and the vertical spring member to extend beyond a predetermined axial gap. By connecting to a coaxial longitudinal stiffening member, which is adapted to sudden load conditions.

[0063]
From the above, the use of a coaxial longitudinal member as a tie rod for repairing a boiling water reactor shroud promotes the prevention of excessive vibration of the tie rod, and a certain thermal transient causes the shroud and its support to move. It will be appreciated that it helps prevent overstressing. "Repair" refers to the preventive or restorative use of tie rods to axially compress (press) the reactor shroud, which is already present by maintaining the reactor shroud in compression. Cracks that have formed can be stabilized (calmed down) and new cracks can be prevented from being formed, allowing safe operation and maintenance of the reactor.
[0064]
The term "coaxial", as used herein, should be interpreted broadly such that one is within the other. When the longitudinal members of the present invention are referred to as coaxial, as shown, the inner longitudinal member is concentrically disposed within the outer longitudinal member, and along the central longitudinal axis of the outer member. It should be understood that the elongate or inner elongate member may be disposed eccentrically within the outer elongate member and extend along the longitudinal eccentric axis of the outer member. The longitudinal members forming the tie rods can have any shape in cross-section, including circular, polygonal and hollow configurations, with the longitudinal members coaxially disposed around the inner longitudinal member. In that case, either or both members may have a symmetric or asymmetric outer shape. A coaxial longitudinal member, acting as a "spring rod", is mounted between the upper and lower parts of the shroud in a pre-loaded state, allowing cooling without excessive stress on the shroud. It is shaped to accommodate thermal transients in the material flow. The spring rod may be solid, as shown, surrounded by a coaxial longitudinal stiffener in the form of a pipe profile, or it may be a hollow tubular member, and It may be formed to accommodate a rigid rod or to be accommodated by a larger stiffening pipe profile. As shown, the longitudinal stiffening member may be attached at one end to a member that engages the shroud structure using any suitable attachment means, such as a threaded engagement, or both ends. May be suspended about a spring rod without being secured, and are axially spaced apart and located in end walls or flanges held by the spring rod and held by stiffening members. By using the annular flange, free movement in the axial direction can be prevented.
[0065]
Various materials can be used to construct the spring rod and the stiffened pipe section, and depending on the material selected, the cross-sectional area (cross-sectional area) of the spring rod can be adapted to thermal transients. It can also be adjusted to maintain a pre-loaded force sufficient to hold the two sides of the shroud crack together, while the cross-sectional area (cross-sectional area) of the pipe section is suddenly increased. Adjustments can be made to withstand conditions, such as those that occur when a steam line breaks. However, the spring rod is made of a high-strength material, such as XM-19, and the remaining components, such as pipe sections, radial spacers, beams and engaging members, are made of Type 304 stainless steel (SUS304). Is preferred. Further, the radial gaps between the longitudinal members may be communicated by a flow of reactor coolant and may be filled by reactor coolant or may be filled with reactor coolant (typically Can be formed in an enclosed space filled with water) or other suitable damping material.
[0066]
While a variety of different types of attachment of the tie rods at the top and bottom have been described, it should be understood that such attachment is not limiting. For example, the lower end of the tie rod may be hooked onto an existing bracket as shown, attached to a stiffener, or it may be automatically self-contained between the shroud and the container at the bottom of the shroud. A wedge-type spanning device may be used.
[0067]
As described, in many instances, the tie rods are attached to an existing substrate, but additional substrates may be provided, or another suitable engagement means may be provided for the tie rods. Similarly, the
[0068]
Although the tie rods of the present invention have been described as being mounted in an annular space between the shroud wall and the reactor vessel wall, tie rods are mounted on either or both sides of the shroud wall to hold the shroud together. It will be understood that it is possible. In most cases, the tie rods are attached to the existing substrate, but it is particularly advantageous to attach them in the annular space between the shroud and the reactor vessel wall.
[0069]
When using radial spacers with the tie rods of the present invention, depending on the location of the crack and the specific location of a given tie rod, any percentage of the total number of tie rods may or may not hold the spacer. All of the tie rods may hold the same number of spacers at the same or different locations along the length, or may hold different numbers of spacers at the same or different locations, respectively. The placement of radial spacers near the upper and lower
[0070]
The features of the various aspects described above may be combined in any desired manner depending on the particular configuration of the boiling water reactor shroud to be repaired.
[0071]
For example, any of the beams shown and described herein may be combined with any of the engagement members described above to attach a tie rod to an existing shroud structure. Similarly, a segmented and unsegmented outer sleeve may be used with any combination of beams and engagement members to fit within the annular space between the shroud and the reactor vessel wall. One or more radial spacers formed may also be retained.
[0072]
Having described preferred embodiments of the new and improved method and apparatus for repairing a boiling water reactor shroud in accordance with the present invention, the teachings set forth herein include other modifications, variations, and variations. Would also be suggested to those skilled in the art. Accordingly, all such changes, modifications and variations are to be considered within the scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
