本発明は電子写真装置に係り、特に小型で取扱性が良く高画質のカラー画像を得ることが出来るカラー電子写真装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
電子写真方法においては感光体である記録体にトナー画像を形成し、出来たトナー画像を紙などの転写媒体に転写して記録している。カラー画像を得るためには三原色であるシアン,マゼンタ,イエローのトナー、あるいは前記三原色のトナーに黒トナーを加えた四種類のトナー画像を順次重ねる方法が広く使われている。カラー画像を得る方法として一般に感光体ドラムの周りに四個の現像機を配置しているが、この方法では通常、四個の現像機の構造が異なり、装置が複雑、かつ大型でまた取扱性が良くないという欠点があった。この点を改良するため、ベルト状の感光体の平面に沿って三または四個の現像機を配置する方法が提案されている。例えば特開平2−213884 号公報には、水平に張ったベルト感光体の上面に沿って三個の現像機を配置し、ベルト感光体に形成したトナー画像を中間転写ベルトに重ねて転写するカラー電子写真装置が示されている。この例では三個の現像機をベルト感光体の上面に配置しているため、不要なトナー,キャリアが感光体の上に付着しやすいという問題がある。又、感光体も中間転写体も共にベルト状なのでトナー画像の位置合わせが難しいという問題も有る。同様に現像機を水平に張ったベルト感光体の上面に配置した例として特開平5−142955 号公報がある。この例では中間転写体がドラムであるため、トナー画像の位置合わせが容易でかつ用紙がカラー電子写真装置の上面に排紙されるので印刷後の用紙の収納部が装置の外部に不要で、小型化に有利であるという利点を有しているが、やはり現像機を水平に張ったベルト感光体の上面に配置しているため不要なトナー,キャリアが感光体の上に付着しやすいという問題がある。また、現像機を水平に張ったベルト感光体の下面に配置した例として特表平5−503377 号公報がある。この例では現像機を手前に引き出すことになりメインテナンス性が良くないという問題がある。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
本発明の目的は、上記事情に鑑み、多種多様な用紙に対応でき、小型,低価格な電子写真装置を提供することにある。また、本発明の他の目的は、位置ずれがなく高画質な電子写真装置を提供することにある。また、本発明の他の目的は、小型,低価格で画面印字が可能な電子写真装置を提供することにある。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明は、上記目的を達成すめために、少なくとも感光体ベルトと、複数の現像機と、中間転写体と、転写部と、定着部と、用紙カセットとを備えた筐体を有し、記録媒体が、前記用紙カセットの端部から給紙され、前記転写部及び前記定着部を介して排紙されるまでの用紙搬送経路を前記筐体内の壁面に沿って設けた構成にし、また、重力方向縦長に張られた感光体ベルトと、その一方側面に積層配置された複数の現像機と、感光体ベルトの他方側面に配置された中間転写体と、記録媒体を格納する用紙カセットとを有し、用紙カセットの末端から前記中間転写体上に形成されたトナー画像を前記記録媒体上に転写するまで概ね垂直な用紙搬送経路を設ける構成にし、また、重力方向縦長に張られた感光体ベルトと、前記感光体ベルトの一方側面に積層配置された複数の現像機と、前記感光体ベルトの他方側面に配置された中間転写体とからなる印写機構と、感光体ベルトの下方に配置され、記録媒体を格納する用紙カセットと、前記用紙カセットから搬送され、現像されて排紙されるまでの用紙搬送経路とを有し、その用紙搬送経路は、前記印写機構を囲むように設けた構成にしたものである。
また、中間転写体にドラムを用いる構成にし、更には、記録媒体の両面にトナー画像を記録するために前記用紙搬送経路とは別に他の用紙搬送経路を設けた構成にしたものである。

【作用】
本発明は、用紙の搬送経路をなるべく曲げずにほぼ垂直に設けることにより、多種多様な用紙に対応でき、印写機構が容易な構成で、小型,低価格な電子写真装置を実現出来る。また、非磁性一成分現像方式の現像を行うことによりトナー室を含む現像機が小型化でき、更には、中間写真ドラムを設けることで、トナーを重ねる時の位置合わせが容易にでき、安定で高品質な電子写真装置が実現できる。
