[Industrial applications]
The present invention relates to a developing device used in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus such as a printer, a facsimile or a copying machine, and more particularly, to a developing device characterized in that toner is charged and thinned using magnetic particles. Equipment related.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In developing devices that visualize images using powdered toner, the transition from developing devices using two-component developer to developing devices using one-component developer has been progressing in order to reduce maintenance of the developing device. In order to cope with colorization, the transition from a magnetic developer to a non-magnetic developer is progressing. Therefore, as disclosed in JP-A-59-3458, there has been proposed a developing device having both the advantages of a developing device using a two-component developer and the advantages of a developing device using a one-component developer. .
[0003]
However, in the developing device disclosed in the above-mentioned publication, it is necessary to arrange magnetic members inside and outside the toner carrier to close magnetic lines of force in order to prevent scattering of magnetic particles. Not only became complicated, but also the developing device became larger.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of such a conventional problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide a developing device having a simple structure suitable for downsizing. It is another object of the present invention to configure an efficient magnetic circuit and increase the holding power of magnetic particles. Further, another object of the present invention is to increase the chance of contact with the toner by using magnetic particles, to perform triboelectric charging of the toner at high speed, and to form an image with less fog (toner adhesion to a background portion). It is to provide a possible developing device. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a developing device that requires a small torque for rotating the toner carrier. Still another object of the present invention is to stabilize the torque to reduce noise of the apparatus and to prevent image defects such as jitter.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The developing device according to the present invention includes a non-magnetic toner carrier that conveys a non-magnetic one-component toner, a permanent magnet disposed to face the toner carrier, and a gap between the toner carrier and the permanent magnet. A magnetic particle disposed in the space of the permanent magnet and held along the line of magnetic force of the permanent magnet, The permanent magnet is sandwiched between a pair of soft magnetic yokes, and one of the pair of soft magnetic yokes is disposed upstream of the toner carrier in the rotational direction of the toner carrier. The width of the other yoke, which is disposed downstream of the toner carrier in the rotation direction, is greater than the width of the other yoke, which is opposed to the toner carrier. It is characterized by that.
[0017]
[Action]
According to the above configuration of the present invention, by causing at least a part of the magnetic particles to face the toner carrier in an arc shape by the lines of magnetic force of the permanent magnet, the surface area of the magnetic particles contacted by the non-magnetic one-component toner is sufficiently large. As a result, not only can the non-magnetic one-component toner be charged quickly and stably, but also a simple and high-efficiency closed magnetic circuit can be configured to hold the magnetic particles so that a small developing device without scattering of the magnetic particles can be provided. Can be provided.
[0018]
In addition, the magnetic particles are held directly on the permanent magnet, and the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier is set to be not less than 5 times the volume average particle diameter of the magnetic particles and not more than half the distance between the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet. Accordingly, the magnetic particles can be securely held on the permanent magnet, and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0019]
Furthermore, by making the permanent magnet conductive, conduction with the magnetic particles can be established, and not only can a bias voltage be applied to the magnetic particles, but also the accumulation of electric charges on the magnetic particles can be prevented. Can be.
[0020]
Furthermore, an efficient closed magnetic circuit can be configured by sandwiching the permanent magnet between a pair of yokes made of a soft magnetic material, and a high magnetic flux density for holding magnetic particles can be obtained.
[0021]
Further, the magnetic particles are held directly on the permanent magnet or the yoke, and a gap between the yoke and the toner carrier is formed between the yokes by the permanent magnet with a volume average particle diameter of 5 times or more of the magnetic particles. By setting the distance between the magnetic poles to half or less, the magnetic particles can be securely held on the yoke and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0022]
Further, with respect to the yoke made of a pair of soft magnetic materials, the opposing width of the yoke disposed on the upstream side in the rotation direction of the toner carrier with respect to the toner carrier is set to the width of the yoke disposed on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the toner carrier. By making the width larger than the width facing the toner carrier, the magnetic flux density (magnetic gradient) of the yoke provided on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the toner carrier is increased, and the retention force of the magnetic particles increases toward the downstream side. And the scattering of the magnetic particles out of the developing device can be prevented.
[0023]
Further, by disposing a plate-shaped member between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier and holding the magnetic particles on the plate-shaped member, the permanent magnet and the magnetic particles can be configured not to come into direct contact with each other, The degree of freedom of usable permanent magnets can be improved.
[0024]
Further, by making the plate-shaped member non-magnetic, the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet can be effectively applied to the magnetic particles, and the scattering of the magnetic particles can be prevented.
[0025]
Further, by making the plate-shaped member conductive, conduction with the magnetic particles can be achieved, and not only can a bias voltage be applied to the magnetic particles, but also the accumulation of electric charges on the magnetic particles can be prevented. be able to.
[0026]
Further, by setting the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier to be not less than 5 times the volume average particle diameter of the magnetic particles and not more than half the distance between the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet, the magnetic particles can be removed even if the plate-shaped member is interposed. Can be reliably held on the plate-like member, and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0027]
Further, by setting the thickness of the plate-shaped member to be equal to or less than half of the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier, even if the plate-shaped member is interposed, no excessive force is applied to the magnetic particles and the torque is reduced. In addition, the durability of the magnetic particles is not impaired.
[0028]
Further, the plate-like member is disposed so that the tip thereof is located on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the toner carrying member, and the plate-like member is elastically urged against the toner carrying member, so that the elastic blade at low pressure is provided. , It is possible to reduce the torque and prevent filming of the non-magnetic one-component toner.
[0029]
【Example】
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the illustrated embodiments.
[0030]
FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of the developing device of the present invention. reference It is a cross-sectional view showing an example.
[0031]
In the figure, reference numeral 11 denotes a case for accommodating a set of developing members. In this case 11, a non-magnetic toner carrier 13 for transporting a non-magnetic one-component toner 12 is provided. Is provided with a regulating member 14 which regulates the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 in a thin layer and frictionally charges, and on the other side, a sealing member 16 which collects the developed non-magnetic one-component toner 12 and prevents scattering. Are arranged so as to be in sliding contact with the toner carrier 13, and form a closed space inside the case 11. A supply member 15 for supplying the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 to the toner carrier 13 or the regulating member 14 is disposed adjacent to the toner carrier 13 inside the case 11. Supply, peeling, stirring and the like. The non-magnetic one-component toner 12 is thinned into one or two layers by the regulating member 14 and is charged to a predetermined polarity by frictional charging between the regulating member 14 and the toner carrier 13.
[0032]
In this way, the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 thinned to a predetermined toner transport amount and charged to a predetermined polarity has a predetermined amount corresponding to the developing electric field at a portion facing the electrostatic latent image. The process proceeds to the image pattern section to visualize the electrostatic latent image. Here, a DC voltage of −350 to −550 V is applied to a voltage of 1000 to 2000 V by a developing bias power supply (not shown). pp Is applied to the toner carrier 13 to form a developing electric field. Arrows A and B in the figure indicate the rotation directions of the toner carrier 13 and the supply member 15, respectively.
[0033]
In particular, the regulating member 14 is disposed in a space between the permanent magnet 17 and the permanent magnet 17 disposed opposite to the toner carrier 13 and is held along the line of magnetic force of the permanent magnet 17. And a soft magnetic mounting member 19 that fixes the permanent magnet 17 and forms a part of a magnetic circuit. The permanent magnet 17 has a pair of magnetic poles at a portion facing the toner carrier 13, and at least a part of the magnetic particles 18 can be made to face the toner carrier 13 in an arc shape by lines of magnetic force of the permanent magnet 17. Accordingly, since the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 passes through the dense space of the magnetic particles 18, a thin toner layer can be formed, and the chance of contact charging between the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 and the magnetic particles 18 is increased. Is possible. On the other hand, by forming a closed magnetic circuit with the permanent magnet 17, the magnetic particles 18, and the mounting member 19, the utilization efficiency of the magnetic flux is high and a high magnetic flux density can be obtained. Can be held. Although the symbols N and S in the figure indicate the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet 17, it goes without saying that a similar configuration can be obtained by using an electromagnet.
[0034]
As described above, by forming the regulating member 14 with the permanent magnet 17, the magnetic particles 18, and the mounting member 19, the magnetic particles 18 can be brought into soft contact with the toner carrier 13, and the toner carrier 13 is rotated. The torque can be reduced. Further, since the regulating member 14 can be disposed on one side of the toner carrier 13, the structure is simple and suitable for miniaturization. Further, the contact width between the magnetic particles 18 and the toner carrier 13 can be made sufficiently large, and the contact area of the magnetic particles 18 with the non-magnetic one-component toner 12 can be made sufficiently large. The toner can be made thinner and stably charged to a predetermined polarity, and an image with less fog can be formed.
[0035]
Here, as the permanent magnet 17, a known magnet material can be used, and more specifically, a magnetic material containing at least one element of Fe, Ni, Co, Cr, and Mn, for example, γ -Fe 2 O 3 , BaO-6Fe 2 O 3 , Ni-Co, Co-Cr, Mn-Al, etc. can be used, and using a resin-bound magnet is advantageous in terms of moldability and cost. Further, by making the permanent magnet 17 conductive, conduction with the magnetic particles 18 can be achieved, and not only can a bias voltage be applied to the magnetic particles 18 but also the accumulation of electric charges in the magnetic particles 18 can be achieved. Can be prevented. Further, when the magnet itself is insulative, a conductive coating can be applied to the surface to prevent the accumulation of electric charges on the magnetic particles 18. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the surface of the permanent magnet 17 can be smoothed. It is also effective to coat for prevention of oxidation and oxidation.
[0036]
As for the magnetic particles 18, as is well-known for magnetic carriers in two-component development, substantially the same material as the above-described permanent magnet material can be used, but the volume average particle diameter of the magnetic particles 18 is one-component non-magnetic. When the volume average particle diameter of the toner 12 is about several times (about 20 to 100 μm), the unevenness of the toner conveyance amount can be reduced.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, at least a part of the magnetic particles is made to face the toner carrier in an arc shape by the lines of magnetic force of the permanent magnet, so that the surface area of the magnetic particles contacted by the non-magnetic one-component toner can be sufficiently increased. Not only is it possible to charge a non-magnetic one-component toner quickly and stably by making it large, but also to form a simple and high-efficiency closed magnetic circuit to hold the magnetic particles, so that there is no scattering of magnetic particles, and compact and high-speed It is possible to provide a developing device suitable for image formation and colorization.
[0064]
In addition, the magnetic particles are held directly on the permanent magnet, and the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier is set to be not less than 5 times the volume average particle diameter of the magnetic particles and not more than half the distance between the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet. Accordingly, the magnetic particles can be securely held on the permanent magnet, and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0065]
Furthermore, by making the permanent magnet conductive, conduction with the magnetic particles can be established, and not only can a bias voltage be applied to the magnetic particles, but also the accumulation of electric charges on the magnetic particles can be prevented. Can be.
[0066]
Furthermore, an efficient closed magnetic circuit can be configured by sandwiching the permanent magnet between a pair of yokes made of a soft magnetic material, and a high magnetic flux density for holding magnetic particles can be obtained.
[0067]
Further, the magnetic particles are held directly on the permanent magnet or the yoke, and a gap between the yoke and the toner carrier is formed between the yokes by the permanent magnet with a volume average particle diameter of 5 times or more of the magnetic particles. By setting the distance between the magnetic poles to half or less, the magnetic particles can be securely held on the yoke and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0068]
[0069]
Further, by disposing a plate-shaped member between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier and holding the magnetic particles on the plate-shaped member, the permanent magnet and the magnetic particles can be configured not to come into direct contact with each other, The degree of freedom of usable permanent magnets can be improved.
[0070]
Further, by making the plate-shaped member non-magnetic, the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet can be effectively applied to the magnetic particles, and the scattering of the magnetic particles can be prevented.
[0071]
Further, by making the plate-shaped member conductive, conduction with the magnetic particles can be achieved, and not only can a bias voltage be applied to the magnetic particles, but also the accumulation of electric charges on the magnetic particles can be prevented. be able to.
[0072]
Further, by setting the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier to be not less than 5 times the volume average particle diameter of the magnetic particles and not more than half the distance between the magnetic poles of the permanent magnet, the magnetic particles can be removed even if the plate-shaped member is interposed. Can be reliably held on the plate-like member, and the brush-like magnetic particles can be softly brought into contact with the toner carrier to reduce the torque. Note that, by reducing the torque, image jitter due to uneven rotation of the toner carrier can also be reduced.
[0073]
Further, by setting the thickness of the plate-shaped member to be equal to or less than half of the gap between the permanent magnet and the toner carrier, even if the plate-shaped member is interposed, no excessive force is applied to the magnetic particles and the torque is reduced. In addition, the durability of the magnetic particles is not impaired.
[0074]
Further, the plate-like member is disposed so that the tip thereof is located on the downstream side in the rotation direction of the toner carrying member, and the plate-like member is elastically urged against the toner carrying member, so that the elastic blade at low pressure is provided. , It is possible to reduce the torque and prevent filming of the non-magnetic one-component toner.
