本発明の目的は、前記した従来技術の問題点を除去し、人手を要することなく、受信画像の品質あるいは劣化度を自動的に客観評価することのできる圧縮伝送画像の品質評価装置およびそれに用いる送信装置および受信装置を提供することにある。

前記した目的を達成するために、本発明は、圧縮伝送画像の品質評価装置において、送信側に、送信される画像の圧縮の際に該画像の劣化度を求める手段と、該劣化度の情報を、該画像の圧縮ビットストリームに多重化して受信側へ伝送する手段とを設け、また、受信側に、受信した前記多重化された信号から前記画像の劣化度の情報を分離する手段と、該画像の劣化度の情報を基に受信画像の劣化度を評価する手段とを設けた点に第1の特徴がある。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下に、図面を参照して、本発明を詳細に説明する。図1は、本発明の概略の構成を示すブロック図である。
送信側では、入力画像aは符号化部1により符号化され、該符号化部1から画像の圧縮ビットストリームとして出力される。画質劣化測定部2は該符号化部1による符号化と同時に、該符号化による品質劣化度を計算する。該画質劣化測定部2で得られた符号化劣化度のデータは、多重化部3で前記画像の圧縮ビットストリームに多重化され、伝送ネットワーク11を経て、受信側へ伝送される。
