Description
【0001】
【0003】
H2 → 2H++2e− …(1)
(1/2)O2+2H++2e− → H2O …(2)
H2+(1/2)O2 → H2O …(3)
【0004】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fuel cell device, and more particularly, to a fuel cell device having a stack structure in which a plurality of single cells are stacked.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A fuel cell is known as a method capable of realizing high energy conversion efficiency because it directly converts chemical energy of fuel into electric energy without passing through thermal energy or mechanical energy. In a fuel cell, an oxidizing gas containing oxygen is supplied to an anode side, and a fuel gas containing hydrogen is supplied to a cathode side, and the following electrochemical reaction proceeds at its electrode portion.
[0003]
H 2 → 2H + + 2e − … (1)
(1/2) O 2 + 2H + + 2e − → H 2 O ... (2)
H 2 + (1/2) O 2 → H 2 O ... (3)
[0004]
As described above, the electrochemical reaction in the fuel cell produces water. In addition, water vapor may be added to the fuel gas or the oxidizing gas for the purpose of preventing the electrolyte layer provided in the fuel cell from drying, and in a predetermined region inside the fuel cell, the water vapor and the generated water form water droplets to form a gas. In some cases, the flow path may be blocked. Hereinafter, the problem of water droplets generated in each part of the fuel cell will be described by taking a polymer electrolyte fuel cell as an example.
[0005]
First, prior to the description of the above-described generation of water droplets, the configuration of the polymer electrolyte fuel cell will be described, and then, the mechanism of generation of water droplets in each part in such a polymer electrolyte fuel cell will be described. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a membrane made of a polymer having good conductivity in a wet state as an electrolyte layer. Such a polymer electrolyte fuel cell usually has a stack structure in which a plurality of single cells are stacked. FIG. 16 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing the configuration of the

Next, in the fuel cell having the above-described configuration, locations where condensation of water may occur to cause inconvenience will be described.
1. Gas diffusion electrode
2. Gas flow path
a) Flow path inside each single cell (flow path inside single cell)
b) Exit portion from each single cell flow path to a gas flow path penetrating the fuel cell
c) Gas flow path (gas manifold) penetrating inside the fuel cell
[0008]
It is considered that the condensation of water vapor at these points occurs as follows.
First, as shown in the above-described equation (2), water is generated by the battery reaction on the anode side, and the water generated by the battery reaction forms a water film inside the gas diffusion electrode on the anode side. Sometimes. Further, the water that has moved to the anode side of the
[0009]
Further, the water generated by the battery reaction and the water moving in the
[0010]
The water droplets generated in the gas manifold include, as described above, water flowing from each single cell flow path, as well as water vapor condensed in fuel gas and oxidizing gas. As described above, on the cathode side, water is consumed during the cell reaction, and water molecules in the electrolyte membrane also move toward the anode side due to the movement of protons. The gas includes a predetermined amount of water vapor to prevent the electrolyte membrane from drying. Since the water vapor contained in such a fuel gas is usually in an excessive amount, even in the exhaust gas of the fuel gas after being subjected to the battery reaction in each single cell, the water vapor remaining without being supplied to the electrolyte membrane is included. It will be.
[0011]
In the case of oxidizing gas, it is not necessary to add water vapor for the battery reaction. However, when there is a concern about drying of the electrolyte membrane, such as when a pressurized oxidizing gas is supplied to the anode side, the oxidizing gas is not added. However, humidification may be performed. Further, in the exhaust gas of the oxidizing gas discharged from each single cell, since the water generated by the battery reaction and the water that has moved through the electrolyte membrane are evaporated and added, the vapor pressure thereof reaches a substantially saturated vapor pressure. .
[0012]
In a fuel cell in which such a humidified gas flows, for example, when the temperature outside the fuel cell decreases, the temperature of the wall surface of the gas manifold also decreases. Water vapor in the gas may condense. Also, when the operating temperature of the fuel cell is lowered, or when the inside of the fuel cell is not yet sufficiently heated when the fuel cell is started, condensation of water vapor occurs due to a decrease in the saturated vapor pressure. Condensation of water vapor in gas when the operating temperature of the fuel cell is lowered or when the fuel cell is started up is caused not only in the gas manifold described above but also in the entire gas flow path formed inside the fuel cell such as the single cell flow path. It can happen.
[0013]
When such condensation of water vapor occurs, if the condensation site is inside the gas diffusion electrode, gas diffusion in the electrode is inhibited, so that gas cannot be supplied to the gas diffusion electrode. Regions arise. When condensation occurs in each single-cell flow path, the single-cell flow path is blocked by water droplets, so that a gas diffusion electrode also has a region where gas cannot be supplied. If water droplets are generated at the outlet from each of the single-cell channels to the gas manifold, the supply of gas to the single-cell channels whose outlets are blocked will be delayed. Further, when water droplets are generated in the gas manifold, there is a possibility that the generated water droplets may block the connection with each of the single-cell channels. Thus, wherever condensation occurs in the fuel cell, water condensation inside the fuel cell has been a cause of deteriorating cell performance.
[0014]
Therefore, conventionally, in order to prevent the above-described inconvenience from occurring due to condensation of water vapor at various points inside the fuel cell, the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied to the fuel cell are temporarily increased to reduce the condensed water. There has been proposed a method of removing water droplets by blowing them off (for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 54-144934).
[0015]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when the condensed water is blown off by temporarily increasing the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied to the fuel cell as described above, even if the water droplets in the gas manifold can be easily blown off, However, there is a problem that it is difficult to obtain an effect on water condensed in the gas diffusion electrode, the flow path in the single cell, and the outlet from the flow path in the single cell to the gas manifold. This is because even if the flow rate and the pressure of the gas supplied to the fuel cell are increased on the gas supply device side, the flow rate and the pressure of the gas actually reaching the location where the water droplet is generated do not increase so much. . Since the fuel cell has a stack structure in which a plurality of unit cells are stacked as described above, when gas is distributed to each unit cell, the amount of gas supply increases according to the number of unit cells provided in the fuel cell. Are also split. For this reason, the amount of increase in the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied to the location where water droplets are generated is insufficient, and even when the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied to the fuel cell are increased, the water droplets cannot be removed as a result. Sometimes it was not done.
[0016]
Conversely, if it is desired to effectively increase the flow rate and pressure of the gas to be supplied to the location where the water droplets are generated and to remove the water drops effectively, the amount of increase in the flow rate and the pressure needs to be excessively large. It may be difficult to adopt. In particular, when attempting to remove water droplets by increasing the flow rate or pressure of the fuel gas, by increasing the supply amount of the fuel gas, the amount of hydrogen discharged without involving the cell reaction increases. Inconvenience. An increase in the amount of hydrogen not used in the cell reaction causes a decrease in energy efficiency of the entire fuel cell system including the fuel cell. This is particularly disadvantageous when the amount of fuel that can be prepared is limited, such as when a fuel cell is mounted on a vehicle as a power source for driving a vehicle. When a fuel cell is used as a power source for driving a vehicle, the above-described configuration in which water droplets are blown off by increasing the amount of supplied gas reduces the distance that can be traveled with a predetermined amount of fuel mounted on a vehicle. Become. Furthermore, if the amount of increase in the supplied gas is made to be a large excess, facilities such as piping for supplying gas to the fuel cell shall also withstand a large excess flow rate and pressure, and the gas supply device will have a large excess flow rate and pressure. It becomes necessary to be able to supply gas at a pressure, which may cause another problem such as an increase in the size of the entire apparatus.
[0017]
The fuel cell device of the present invention solves these problems, suppresses an increase in the amount of hydrogen discharged without being involved in the cell reaction, suppresses an increase in the size of the fuel cell, and improves the drainage performance of each unit cell constituting the fuel cell. It has the following configuration.
[0018]
[Means for Solving the Problems and Their Functions and Effects]
The first fuel cell device of the present invention comprises:
A fuel cell device comprising a stack structure in which a plurality of single cells are stacked, receiving gas supply to each electrode of the single cell, and obtaining an electromotive force by an electrochemical reaction using a predetermined component in the gas,
A gas supply manifold formed inside the stack structure and penetrating in the stacking direction of the stack structure, and supplying the gas to a gas flow path provided inside each of the single cells;
In a gas flow path from the gas supply manifold to each of the single cells, gas distribution means for temporarily stopping supply of the gas to a part of the single cell gas flow path;
The gist is that it is provided.
[0019]
The first fuel cell device of the present invention having the above-described configuration is configured such that a gas supply manifold formed in the stack structure in which a plurality of single cells are stacked is formed inside the single cell by a gas supply manifold formed in the stacking direction of the stack structure. The gas is supplied to the gas flow path provided in. Each electrode in the cell receives a gas supply and obtains an electromotive force by an electrochemical reaction using a predetermined component in the gas. Gas distribution means is provided in a gas flow path from the gas supply manifold to each of the single cells, and the gas distribution means supplies the gas to a part of the single cell gas flow path. Stop temporarily.
[0020]
According to the first fuel cell device of the present invention, since the gas distribution unit temporarily stops the supply of the gas to a part of the gas passage in the single cell, the gas supply is not stopped. In the gas flow path in the single cell, the flow rate and pressure of the supplied gas temporarily increase. Therefore, in the case where a water droplet that blocks the flow path is generated in the gas flow path in the single cell in which the gas supply is not stopped, the water droplet is removed from the flow path by blowing off the water droplet by the gas having increased pressure. Can be.
[0021]
Here, in the first fuel cell device of the present invention, by temporarily stopping the supply of the gas to a part of the gas flow path in the single cell, the gas is supplied to another gas flow path in the single cell. Since the flow rate and pressure of the gas are increased, it is not necessary to change the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied from the outside to the fuel cell device. Therefore, a predetermined gas supply device for supplying gas from the outside to the fuel cell device and a pipe connecting the gas supply device and the fuel cell, etc., must be enlarged or complicated in order to increase the flow rate and pressure of the gas. There is no. Further, even if the flow rate and pressure of the gas supplied to each gas flow path increase, the amount of gas consumed by the first fuel cell device of the present invention does not change. Further, since the above-described gas distribution means is provided in a gas flow path from the gas supply manifold formed in the stack structure to each of the single cells, the fuel cell device itself does not become large. Further, since water droplets are blown off using the pressure of the supplied gas, the water droplets can be removed regardless of the direction of the flow path inside the single cell.
[0022]
In such a first fuel cell device of the present invention,
Part of the gas flow path in the single cell is one of all gas flow paths in the single cell divided into a plurality of groups,
It is also preferable that the gas distribution means is a gas distribution switching means for sequentially switching the plurality of groups and performing the gas distribution while changing the gas flow path in the single cell for temporarily stopping the gas supply. .
[0023]
In such a configuration, all the gas flow paths in the single cell are divided into a plurality of groups, and the groups are sequentially switched to change the gas flow path in the single cell for temporarily stopping the gas supply. Therefore, since the flow rate and pressure of the supplied gas are temporarily increased in all the gas flow paths in the single cell, the water drops are formed in any of the gas flow paths in the single cell. It can be removed.
[0024]
The second fuel cell device of the present invention comprises:
A fuel cell device comprising a stack structure in which a plurality of single cells are stacked, receiving gas supply to each electrode of the single cell, and obtaining an electromotive force by an electrochemical reaction using a predetermined component in the gas,
A gas discharge manifold formed inside the stack structure to penetrate in the stacking direction of the stack structure and guide the gas discharged from a gas flow path provided inside each unit cell to the outside of the fuel cell device; ,
A water drop removing unit that has a movable member at a connection portion between the gas discharge manifold and the gas flow path in the single cell, and that, by the movement of the movable member, drips water remaining at the connection portion to the gas discharge manifold side.
The gist is to provide
[0025]
In the second fuel cell device of the present invention configured as described above, gas is supplied to each electrode of the single cell, and an electromotive force is obtained by an electrochemical reaction using a predetermined component in the gas. . The gas discharged from the gas flow path provided in each of the single cells, by a gas discharge manifold formed in the stacking direction of the stack structure in a stack structure in which a plurality of the single cells are stacked, It is guided outside the fuel cell device. A movable member is provided at a connection portion between the gas discharge manifold and the gas flow path in the single cell, and water droplets staying at the connection portion are scraped to the gas discharge manifold side by the movement of the movable member.
[0026]
According to the second fuel cell device of the present invention, the water droplets staying at the connection portion between the gas discharge manifold and the gas flow path in the single cell are scraped to the gas discharge manifold side by the movable member provided in the water droplet removing means. In addition, it is possible to prevent the water droplets from staying at the connection portion to block the gas flow path, thereby lowering the battery performance. Here, since the movable member for removing water droplets is provided at a connection portion between the gas discharge manifold and the gas flow path in the single cell, the provision of the water droplet removal means may increase the size of the fuel cell device. Absent.
[0027]
In such a second fuel cell device of the present invention,
The water droplet removing means,
A rotatably supported fan at a connection portion between each of the single-cell gas flow paths and the gas discharge manifold, and a plurality of provided fans;
A drive mechanism for rotating the plurality of provided fans in conjunction with each other;
May be provided.
[0028]
With such a configuration, the plurality of fans rotate in conjunction with each other, so that any of the fans can remove water droplets similarly, regardless of the position of the connection portion where the water droplets have accumulated. Can be removed.
[0029]
Here, the fan may be driven to rotate by the pressure of the gas discharged from each of the gas channels in the single cell.
[0030]
In such a case, the fan is driven to rotate by the pressure of the gas discharged from each of the gas channels in the single cell, so that it is not necessary to separately provide a device for driving the fan. Further, at this time, since the fans rotate in conjunction with each other as described above, the gas flow path is blocked by the stagnation of water droplets, and the fan is provided at a connection portion of the flow path that does not discharge gas that can drive the fan. This fan can also rotate in conjunction with the rotation of the other fans. Therefore, the fan provided at the connection portion of the closed flow path can also rotate sufficiently to remove water droplets.
[0031]
Alternatively, the fan may be driven to rotate by a motor having a predetermined power source.
[0032]
In such a case, since the fan is driven to rotate by a motor having a predetermined power source, the fan can be rotated at a desired speed at any time. At this time, the fans rotate in conjunction with each other as described above, so that the entire fan can be tuned and rotated, and when any of the gas passages is blocked, water drops can be removed in the same manner. Can be. In addition, the function of the fan driven by the motor makes it possible to forcibly extract water droplets from the gas flow path, and thus has the effect of easily removing water droplets regardless of the shape of the flow path.
[0033]
Further, in such a fuel cell device,
The connection portion provided with the fan includes an oxidizing gas passage provided on the anode side inside each of the single cells, and an oxidizing gas for guiding the oxidizing gas discharged from the oxidizing gas passage to the outside of the fuel cell device. The connection part with the discharge manifold,
The fan has a configuration in which when a predetermined rotational force is given by the motor, the inside of the oxidizing gas flow path provided inside each of the single cells can be set to a negative pressure,
An oxidizing gas supply device that supplies the oxidizing gas to the fuel cell device;
A valve body that is provided in a flow path that connects the fuel cell device and the oxidizing gas supply device, and that can switch a connection with the fuel cell device between the oxidizing gas supply device and outside air;
When the operating condition of the fuel cell device has reached a predetermined condition, an oxidizing gas flow path switching control means for switching the valve element to communicate the anode side of the fuel cell device with outside air.
May be provided.
[0034]
In the fuel cell device having such a configuration, when the operating condition of the fuel cell device becomes a predetermined condition, the valve body is switched so that the anode side of the fuel cell device communicates with the outside air. At this time, when the fan provided in the fuel cell device is driven to rotate by a motor having a predetermined power source to make the inside of the oxidizing gas flow path a negative pressure, the outside air is sucked with the rotation of the fan and the fuel cell device is taken out. Is supplied to the anode side.
[0035]
According to such a fuel cell device, by setting the time when the level of the battery reaction is low, such as when the fuel cell device is started or at a low load, as the predetermined condition in which the valve element is switched, When the fuel cell device is started or when the load is low, the outside air sucked can be used as the oxidizing gas. Therefore, when the level of the battery reaction is low, energy is not consumed for pressurizing or humidifying the oxidizing gas. Further, when the humidified oxidizing gas is supplied when the operating temperature in the fuel cell is low, such as when the fuel cell device is started or when the load is low, steam is condensed in the oxidizing gas flow path in the fuel cell and the gas is condensed. Although there is a possibility of blocking the flow path, such condensation of water vapor can be prevented by directly using the outside air as the oxidizing gas.
[0036]
Other aspects of the invention
The present invention can take other aspects described below. That is, as a first aspect of the present invention, a fuel cell device including the gas distribution switching means and the water droplet removing means can be mentioned.
[0037]
With such a configuration, the supplied gas pressure is increased to blow off generated water and condensed water in the gas flow path, and to flick off water drops remaining at a connection portion between the gas flow path and the gas discharge manifold, The water in the gas flow path can be effectively removed. In particular, when the water droplet removing unit is a fan that is driven to rotate by the pressure of the gas discharged from the gas flow path, when the gas pressure is increased by the gas distribution removing unit, the rotation of the fan is reduced. As the number increases, the efficiency of removing water increases. In such a fuel cell, even if the gas flow path closed by water droplets has a shape in which water droplets are hardly discharged, such as a horizontal direction, water droplets blocking the flow path can be effectively removed.
[0038]
Further, the second aspect of the present invention can be configured as an electric vehicle including the fuel cell device of the present invention. When the electric vehicle is equipped with the first fuel cell device of the present invention as a power source for driving the vehicle, and the fuel cell device includes the gas distribution switching means in at least the fuel gas supply manifold, When the flow path of the fuel gas in the single cell constituting the battery is blocked by water droplets, the flow rate and pressure of the fuel gas in the fuel gas flow channel are increased by the gas distribution switching means to remove water droplets. Can be. At this time, since the amount of fuel gas supplied to the fuel cell device does not change, the fuel mounted on the vehicle is not consumed even if water droplets are blown off and removed by the fuel gas. The travelable distance is not shortened.
[0039]

In a polymer electrolyte fuel cell, oxidizing gas may be humidified by supplying a pressurized oxidizing gas to the anode side to prevent the electrolyte membrane surface from drying out. In this case, the pressure of the oxidizing gas is low because the outside air is sucked and used, and it is not necessary to consider such drying of the electrolyte membrane. Therefore, it can be handled by the water vapor contained in the atmosphere.
