従来より、多数の光ファイバを高密度に集合した光ファイバケーブルとして、図11に示すような、複数の光ファイバ素線1、1…を並列させ、これらの外側に一括被覆2を施しテープ状に成形したテ−プ心線3を用いて、図12に示すように構成したものが知られている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところで、この種の光ファイバケーブルは従来通信局と通信局との間の通信に使用されてきたが、近年、これをさらに加入者のエリアにまで拡大し、加入者の宅内までをも光ファイバにて接続する通信網の整備が進められており、上記高密度集合型光ファイバケーブルをかかる加入者系光ファイバケーブルに使用することが検討されている。

しかしながら、上記したような従来の高密度集合型光ファイバケーブルにおいては、次のような問題があった。

すなわち、従来のケーブルにおいては、複数の光ファイバ素線1、1…を全長に亘って結合一体化したテープ心線3を使用しているため、加入者系への引落しは、テープ心線単位で行わなければならず、一つの引落点での需要が 1〜2 心の場合には残りの光ファイバが使用されないままとなり、使用効率が低くなる問題があった。また、その際、加入者側からの単心線と接続するために、テープ心線を単心線に変換する心線変換装置を使用しなければならず、接続による伝送損失が大きい、クロージャのコンパクト化が困難であるなどの問題もあった。

本発明はこのような点に対処してなされたもので、光ファイバの高密度集合が可能で、かつ、必要な素線だけを引落し、残りをスルーさせることができ、したがって集中需要/疎らな需要に柔軟に対応でき、また、心線変換装置を要することなく単心線との接続が可能で、したがって接続部での伝送損失の低減や、クロージャのコンパクト化を図ることができる、加入者系光ファイバケーブルに好適な光ファイバケーブルを提供することを目的とする。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明の光ファイバケーブルは、並列配置した複数の光ファイバ素線を長さ方向に間隔をおいて結合してなる光ファイバ心線を具備してなる光ファイバケーブルにおいて、前記光ファイバ心線は複数枚がそれぞれの結合部を同一位置で重ね合わせて積層されており、かつ、前記結合部の重なり部の間で少なくとも 1 回の捩りが加えられていることを特徴とする。

【作用】
本発明の光ファイバケーブルにおいては、複数の光ファイバ素線が結合されている結合部と、結合されていない非結合部が交互に設けられた光ファイバ心線を用いているので、光ファイバの高密度集合が可能で、しかも、必要な素線だけを引落し、残りをスルーさせることができるため、集中需要/疎らな需要に柔軟に対応することが可能となる。また、心線変換装置を要することなく単心線と接続することができるため、接続部での伝送損失の低減や、クロージャのコンパクト化を図ることができる。さらに、心線間での切り替えや切り離しも容易となる。

【実施例】
以下、本発明の実施例を図面に基づいて説明する。

図1は、本発明の一実施例のスロット型光ファイバケーブルを示す一部切欠斜視図、図2はそれに用いる光ファイバ心線の一例を示す斜視図である。

図1において、20は、中心にFRPなどからなるテンションメンバ21を有し、外周に複数の溝22がSZ撚りに設けられたポリエチレンなどのプラスチックからなるスロットロッドを示している。このスロットロッド20の各溝22内には、図2に示すような、光ファイバの外周にUV樹脂などにより被覆を施した光ファイバ素線23を複数本並列させ、これらの光ファイバ素線23、23…の外周に長さ方向に間隔をおいて被覆24、24…を施すことにより、 4本の光ファイバ素線23、23…がテープ状に一体に結合されている結合部Aと、 4本の光ファイバ素線23、23…が結合されずフリー状態にある非結合部Bが交互に設けられた構造の光ファイバ心線25が複数本、それぞれの結合部Aを一致させるとともに、非結合部Bが少なくとも各溝22のSZ反転部22aに位置するように積層されて収納されている。図3は、このような溝内における光ファイバ心線25の積層構造を示したものである。そして、このように光ファイバ心線25が収納されたスロットロッド20の外周には、押えテープなどによる押え巻層26、およびポリエチレンなどのプラスチックの押出しなどによる外被27が順に設けられている。

この実施例の光ファイバケーブルにおいては、光ファイバ心線25の非結合部Bで光ファイバ素線23を個々に取り出すことができるため、加入者への引落しに際し、所要の光ファイバ素線23のみを引落し、残りの光ファイバ素線23をスルーさせることができ、したがって、集中需要、疎らな需要のいずれにも柔軟に対応することができる。また、心線変換装置が不要となるため、接続部における伝送損失の低下やクロージャのコンパクト化を図ることができる。すなわち、図4および図5は、それぞれ集中需要および疎らな需要地域における上記光ファイバケーブル27からの光ファイバ素線23の引落し構造の例を模式的に示したもので、光ファイバ心線25の非結合部Bで所要の光ファイバ素線23のみが切断され、加入者宅からの単心線28と直接接続されている。なお、これらの図において、29はクロージャ、30は光ファイバ素線23と加入者宅からの単心線28との接続点を示している。さらに、図示は省略するが、光ファイバ心線25間の素線の切り替え、切り離しも容易に行うことができるうえ、必要ならば、結合部Aにおいて、光ファイバ心線25同士の一括接続も可能である。

また、上記光ファイバケーブルにおいては、光ファイバ心線25間あるいは光ファイバ心線25と溝22底面との接触面積が小さいため、ケーブルに曲げが加わることがあっても、光ファイバ心線25に座屈を生じ、伝送特性を低下させるおそれがほとんどない。すなわち、光ファイバ素線外周に全長に亘って一括被覆が施されている従来のテープ心線を用いた場合には、テープ心線同士あるいはテープ心線と溝底面が全長に亘って面接触しているため、テープ心線の動きが拘束される。このため、ケーブルに曲げが加わると、一部のテープ心線に局部的な応力の集中による座屈を生じ、伝送損失が増加するおそれがある。しかしながら、上記光ファイバケーブルにおいては、光ファイバ素線23が長さ方向に間隔をおいて結合された光ファイバ心線25を使用しているため、光ファイバ心線25間あるいは光ファイバ心線25と溝22底面との接触面積が小さく、光ファイバ心線25の動きが強く拘束されることはない。したがってケーブルに曲げが加わった際、その曲げ応力は光ファイバ心線25あるいは光ファイバ素線23の移動によって緩和されるため、応力の集中による座屈、およびこれによる伝送損失の増大を防止することができる。

さらに、上記光ファイバケーブルにおいては、溝22のSZ反転部22aに非結合部Bが位置するように光ファイバ心線25が収納されており、収納時に該部で光ファイバ心線25に大きな曲げ応力が加わると、各光ファイバ素線23は溝22内を応力によるストレスを緩和する方向に移動するため、光ファイバ素線外周に全長に亘って一括被覆が施されている従来のテープ心線を収納した場合のような、光ファイバ素線23に大きな曲げ歪を生ずることはなく、かかる曲げ歪による光ファイバの伝送特性の低下を抑制することができる。

またさらに、各溝22内の各光ファイバ心線25はそれぞれの結合部Aが重なり合っているので、溝22内に侵水が生じた場合に、結合部Aの重なり部がダム部となって、走水を防止乃至抑制する効果も有する。また、結合部Aと非結合部Bが重なった場合の非結合部B側の光ファイバに加わる側圧も抑制することができる。

本発明においては、図6に示すように、積層した光ファイバ心線の結合部Aの重なり部の間で少なくとも 1回の捩りを加えることにより、光ファイバ心線に対する曲げ応力をさらに緩和することができる。また、かかる捩りを加えることにより、結合部Aを容易に重ね合わせることが可能になる。すなわち、光ファイバ心線25を積層してそのまま溝22に収納すると、光ファイバ心線25の撚径に微小な差を生ずることになり、各光ファイバ心線25の結合部Aの位置を一致させるためには、予めかかる撚径を考慮して結合部A間距離の異なる光ファイバ心線25を積層することが必要になる。しかしながら、上記のような捩りを加えることにより、撚径の差が緩和されるため、結合部A、A間の距離が等しい光ファイバ心線25を用いて容易に、溝内で各光ファイバ心線の結合部Aを重なり合った積層構造を形成することができる。なお、捩りはスパイラル状、SZ状のいずれであってもよい。

次に、図7および図8に示す本発明の他の実施例について説明する。

図7に示す実施例においては、ポリブチレンテレフタレート(PBT)やナイロンなどのプラスチックからなるチューブ31内に、複数枚の上記実施例と同様に構成された光ファイバ心線25が、上記実施例と同様に積層されてルースに収納されており、この光ファイバユニット32がさらに複数本、外周にプラスチック被覆33aを有する鋼線などの抗張力体33bからなるテンションメンバ33の外周に撚合わされ、その外側に押え巻層34を介してプラスチックからなる外被35が設けられている。

以上説明したように、本発明の光ファイバケーブルによれば、並列配置した複数の光ファイバ素線を長さ方向に間隔をおいて結合してなる光ファイバ心線を用いるようにしたので、光ファイバの高密度集合が可能であるうえ、引落しに際し、必要な素線だけを引落し、残りをスルーさせることができるため、集中需要/疎らな需要に柔軟に対応することができる。また、心線変換装置を要することなく素線と単心線との接続が可能となるため、接続部での伝送損失の低減や、クロージャのコンパクト化を図ることができる。さらに、心線間での切り替え、切り離しも容易で、また、必要ならば、光ファイバ心線同士の一括接続も可能である。したがって、かかる性能が要求される加入者系光ファイバケーブルなどとして有用である。
