本実施例で示すスイッチ機構は、図3に示すように前記固定台座10に配設された板バネ30と、その後方に配設されたマイクロスイッチ17とによって構成され、前記固定台座10に枢着されたステップ部材20の前枢支部22の後端部が前記ステップ部材20起伏回動に伴って、伏臥状態時には図3(a)に示すように、前記板バネ30を後方に撓曲させ、前記撓曲した板バネ30が前記マイクロスイッチ17のアクチュエータ17aを後方に押す作用によってマイクロスイッチ17がONとなり照明具14が点灯する仕組みとなっている。そして、起立状態時には図3(b)に示すように、前記板バネ30の後方への撓曲が生ぜず、したがってマイクロスイッチ17のアクチュエータ17aは前方に留まるので、マイクロスイッチ17はOFFでとなり照明具14は消灯状態となる。
前記マイクロスイッチ17はマイクロスイッチ取付板17を介して後板40にねじ止めされている。
本実施例における点灯機構のマイクロスイッチ17に変えて 金属の存在を検出する誘導型近接スイッチ、物体の存在を検出する静電容量型スイッチを用いれば、前記近接スイッチが物体の接近を非接触で検知して照明具14を0N・OFFすることから、高速応答、長寿命、高い信頼性の点灯機構が得られるので好ましい。
なお、前記照明具14は伏臥状態にあるステップ板21の上面を効率よく照射するために、下方に傾けられた取付基板15の上に取り付けられ、照明光照射窓16の形状も照射効果が高められるよう考慮されている。

そして、図3(b)に示すように、前記ステップ部材20を起立状態にした時、前記ステップ板21内側の大開口部24が、前記固定台座10の上端より高い位置に存在するよう形成されているので、ステップ部材20を起立位置から伏臥位置に回動させようとする場合に、前記ステップ板21の大開口部24に指が掛けやすく、回動操作のしやすいものとなっている。
さらに、ステップ板21の上面は細かな凹凸面構造として足を掛けたときの滑り止め効果を高めている。
