Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a light-emitting diode which is suitable for the application such as a dot matrix. CONSTITUTION:A light-emitting diode element 3 is fixed to the inside of a bowl-shaped recess 12 which is formed on the tip of one (1a) of lead terminals 1a and 1b. The light-emitting diode element 3 is connected to the other lead terminal 1b with a fine metal wire 4 and the light-emitting diode element 3 and the fine metal wire 4 are sealed with light-transmitting resin to form a light-emitting diode lamp. In the respective cross sections of the bowl-shaped recess 12 which are perpendicular to each other, one of the cross sections of the inner walls of the recess 12 has a gentle rise and the other cross section of the inner wall has a sharp rise. With this constitution, different directivities can be obtained along two directions perpendicular to each other.

2. Description of the Related Art The structure of a conventional light emitting diode lamp of this type will be described with reference to FIG. As shown in FIG. 4A, this light emitting diode lamp has one lead terminal 1.
The light-emitting diode element 3 is fixed in a bowl-shaped recess 2 called a parabola formed at the tip of a, and the light-emitting diode element 3 and the other lead terminal 1b are connected by a thin metal wire 4, and the light-emitting diode element 3 The dome-shaped lens portion 5 is formed by sealing the thin metal wire 4 with a translucent resin.

[0003] The bowl-shaped recess 2 is formed such that the rising angle of its inner wall surface is substantially the same over the entire circumference. Therefore, the light emitted in the horizontal direction from the light emitting diode element 3 is reflected at substantially the same angle and guided upward around the entire inner wall surface of the bowl-shaped concave portion 2,
The directivity of this LED lamp is shown in FIG.
As shown in (c), it is uniform around the optical axis of the lens unit 5.

Incidentally, in recent years, a dot matrix display device in which a large number of light emitting diode lamps are two-dimensionally arranged to display characters and the like has been proposed and implemented. As shown in FIG. 5, such a display device 6 can be viewed from an arbitrary position by a plurality of observers, but there is no great difference in the height of the line of sight of each observer. Therefore, the display device 6 preferably has a wide directivity in the left-right direction, but a narrow directivity in the up-down direction is sufficient.

[0005] Contrary to such demands on the directional characteristics, the above-mentioned conventional light emitting diode lamp has the same directivity all around. Therefore, if the directivity of the left and right sides of the display device 6 is to be expanded, Inevitably, the directivity in the vertical direction expands. As a result, extra light that is not recognized by the observer is emitted in the vertical direction, so that there is a problem that the luminous intensity of the display device 6 viewed from the observer cannot be sufficiently increased. Conversely, if it is attempted to increase the luminous intensity by narrowing the directivity in the upper and lower directions, the directivity in the left and right becomes narrower, making it difficult for an observer not facing the display device 6 to see the display content.

The present invention has the following configuration in order to achieve the above object. That is, according to the present invention, a light-emitting diode element is fixed in a bowl-shaped recess formed at the tip of one lead terminal, and the light-emitting diode element and the other lead terminal are connected by a thin metal wire.
In the light-emitting diode lamp in which the light-emitting diode element and the thin metal wire are sealed with a translucent resin, in each of the orthogonal cross sections, one inner wall surface has a slow rising angle and the other inner wall surface has a gentle rising angle. Has a steep rising angle.

The operation of the present invention is as follows. That is,
The inner wall surface of the bowl-shaped concave portion to which the light-emitting diode element is fixed is reflected on the wall surface with a slow rising angle because one of the vertical walls has a slow rising angle and the other has a steep rising angle in each of the vertical cross sections. The reflected light is emitted in a wide range, while the light reflected on the wall with a steep rising angle is emitted in a narrow range. Therefore, this light-emitting diode lamp has two directivities that are wide and narrow in the orthogonal direction.

The light emitting diode element 3 is connected to the other lead terminal 1b via a thin metal wire 4. The bowl-shaped concave portion 12 is formed such that the rising angles of the inner wall surfaces thereof are different from each other in the orthogonal vertical sections XX and YY. That is, as shown in FIG. 6B, the cross section XX has a slow rising wall surface 12a, and as shown in FIG.
The Y-Y section has a steep rising wall surface 12b, and the rising angle of the wall surface changes smoothly over the entire circumference.

As shown in FIG. 1B, the light reflected on the inner wall surface 12a having a slow rising angle is converged to some extent by the lens unit 5, but is emitted in a relatively wide range. FIG. 2B shows the directivity of the XX section. On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 1C, the light reflected on the inner wall surface 12b having a steep rising angle is emitted from the lens unit 5 within a narrow range. Figure 2 shows the directional characteristics.
It is shown in (c). As described above, the light-emitting diode lamp according to the present embodiment has two directivities, wide and narrow in two orthogonal directions, and thus requires different directivities in the vertical and horizontal directions as in the dot matrix display device shown in FIG. It is suitable for various uses.

As is apparent from the above description, according to the present invention, one of the inner wall surfaces of the bowl-shaped recess to which the light emitting diode element is fixed has a slow rising angle in each of the perpendicular cross sections. Since the other has a steep rising angle, it is possible to easily obtain a light emitting diode lamp suitable for a dot matrix display device or the like, having two directional characteristics which are wide and narrow in two orthogonal directions.
