Exhaust gas from the engine is humidified with steam and flows into an expansion turbine of a turbocharger. During expansion in the turbine, condensation of water vapor occurs, and harmful substances such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and sulfur oxides are taken into the droplets. Since the droplet grows to about several μm, the exhaust gas is purified by separating the droplet from the exhaust gas by a dust collector.

In FIG. 1, the exhaust gas 7 containing harmful substances from the exhaust port 5 of the engine 6 is added with steam from the humidifier 8 and approaches a saturated state, and flows into the expansion turbine 9 of the supercharger. In the expansion turbine, the exhaust gas rapidly adiabatically expands, so that steam condenses. At this time, harmful substances such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and sulfur oxides in the exhaust gas act as condensation nuclei and are taken into the generated droplets. Exhaust gas from the outlet of the expansion turbine flows out in a gas-liquid two-phase state including droplets, and is separated as droplets from the exhaust gas when passing through a droplet separator 10 (comprising a centrifugal separator and an electrostatic precipitator). You. The exhaust gas from which the droplets have been removed passes through the silencer 11 and is released into the atmosphere as purified exhaust gas. On the other hand, droplets removed from the exhaust gas by the droplet separator 10, that is, the condensed water 13, are stored in the condensed water tank 14. The water in the condensed water tank is sent to the humidifier 8 through the circulation pump 16 and the harmful substance removing device (high-performance water filter) 15, and is reused as humidifying water. Reference numeral 17 denotes a fuel supply device.

FIG. 2 is a schematic view showing a state change of added steam in the exhaust gas in the turbocharger expansion turbine. In FIG. 2, A shows a state of exhaust gas to which water vapor is added and is close to saturation, B shows a state of condensation start in the expansion turbine 9, and C shows a state of an outlet of the expansion turbine. The steam in the expansion turbine 9
It expands rapidly along AB and becomes supersaturated. When the supersaturation reaches the state of B, the droplet condensation of water vapor occurs rapidly.
Droplets are generated between BC. The exhaust gas containing the droplets flows into the droplet separator 10 in the state C.

The kinetic energy of the exhaust gas 7 discharged from the engine 6 is recovered by the compressor 2 connected to the expansion turbine 9 in the same manner as in the case of the conventional turbocharged engine.
The outside air 1 is pressurized and supplied to the engine cylinder from an air supply port 4.
