Description
This disclosure relates to a continuously variable transmission, and more specifically to a load-sensitive continuously variable transmission that changes gears steplessly according to the load.
There are various types of transmission mechanisms known for changing the speed of rotation of a power source, including wrap-around (belt), toroidal, ring-cone, and ball types. Many of these transmission mechanisms transmit power from an input member to an output member using friction or oil film traction. Some of these transmission mechanisms can transmit power in both rotational directions, while others can only transmit power in one rotational direction and cannot transmit power in the reverse rotational direction. There are also transmission mechanisms equipped with a planetary gear mechanism that can transmit power in the reverse rotational direction.
For example,
However, conventional speed change mechanisms have several problems, such as being large in size and heavy in weight, needing a drive source for speed change, not being able to achieve a sufficiently large speed change ratio, low torque capacity (transmittable torque), and low power transmission efficiency.
For example, these speed change mechanisms are larger in size and weight than wave reducers. This is because these speed change mechanisms typically use friction, which requires a high pressing load, has a low limit on the torque that can be transmitted, and uses high-strength materials to prevent wear (durability) and slippage of the power transmission components. Also, in order to ensure the stability of the speed change function, each element of the mechanism has a complex structure, which also increases the size and weight. Also, because these speed change mechanisms use friction, the torque is very small compared to when power is transmitted by the meshing of gears.
In addition, there is a trade-off between a small and lightweight transmission and the ability to transmit large torque and high-speed torque at a reduction ratio. Therefore, there is a demand for a continuously variable transmission that can achieve both and change speeds according to the load.
In view of the above background, the present invention aims to provide a continuously variable transmission that is small and lightweight, yet capable of transmitting large torque and high-speed torque, and that changes speed according to the load.
In order to solve the above problem, one embodiment of the present invention is a continuously variable transmission (1, 101, 201), which includes a central shaft (2) rotatably provided around a predetermined central axis (X), an outer ring (12) arranged radially outwardly of the central shaft at a distance, and a torque transmission section (4, 104, 204) that transmits torque between the central shaft and the outer ring, the torque transmission section including at least one rotating member (21, 30) arranged between the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring, and at least one of the outer surface of the rotating member and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring is a drive member. The outer ring is configured to have adhesive properties, and includes an outer ring body (41) having multiple cam surfaces (44) on the inner circumference side that are inclined relative to the circumferential direction, rolling elements (45) arranged on each of the cam surfaces, and an annular outer ring inner member (42) arranged inside the outer ring body to form the inner circumference surface of the outer ring, the outer ring inner member being configured to hold the rolling elements in the circumferential direction and resiliently bias the rolling elements toward the outside in the radial direction, and to reduce the inner diameter by the rolling elements moving on the cam surfaces and displacing radially inward.
According to this aspect, the circumferential length of the inner surface changes in response to the change in the inner diameter of the outer ring, thereby changing the speed ratio of the rotation between the central shaft and the outer ring transmitted by the torque transmission unit (the gear ratio of the continuously variable transmission). The greater the torque transmitted between the central shaft and the outer ring, i.e., the greater the load, the smaller the inner diameter of the outer ring becomes, and the gear ratio changes continuously accordingly. In addition, since the torque transmission unit includes a rotating member, and the outer surface of the rotating member is bonded to the inner surface of the outer ring by dry bonding, a large torque can be transmitted without requiring a high pressing force or a complex structure. Therefore, it is possible to achieve both a compact and lightweight continuously variable transmission and a large torque transmission.
In the above aspect, the outer ring inner member (42) may have a plurality of arcuate portions (46) each forming a part of the arcuate surface (46a) of the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring (12) and spaced apart from one another in the circumferential direction by a predetermined distance, and a plurality of connecting portions (47) that connect the adjacent arcuate portions so as to resiliently bias them in a direction that extends the distance, and hold the rolling elements (45).
According to this aspect, the inner member of the outer ring shortens the distance between the arcuate portions, thereby shortening the apparent circumferential length of the inner surface of the outer ring. This makes it possible to realize an outer ring whose inner diameter changes depending on the load with a simple configuration.
In the above aspect, the torque transmission part (204) includes an elastically deformable flexible cylinder (30) having an outer peripheral surface having a circumferential length shorter than the circumferential length of the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring (12) when the outer ring inner member (42) is at its most contracted, and at least one of the outer peripheral surface of the flexible cylinder and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring is preferably configured to have dry adhesion.
According to this aspect, when the flexible cylinder is deformed so as to rotate the long axis once while the outer circumferential surface of the approximately elliptical long axis portion is in contact with the inner circumferential surface of the outer ring, it rotates by the difference in circumferential length between the outer circumferential surface and the inner circumferential surface. This results in a continuously variable transmission with a large gear ratio. Also, when the inner diameter of the outer ring is reduced in response to the load, the difference in circumferential length is suddenly reduced, resulting in a large change in the gear ratio.
Alternatively, in the above aspect, the torque transmission section (104) may include a belt mechanism (21) including a plurality of rollers (31) extending along the central axis (X), a roller support member (carrier 22) supporting the plurality of rollers, and an endless belt (33) wound around the plurality of rollers and having an outer surface that contacts the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring and the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft, and at least one of the outer surface of the endless belt and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring and the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft may be configured to have dry adhesion.
According to this aspect, when the central shaft rotates, the belt mechanism, which has an endless belt in contact with the outer circumferential surface of the central shaft and the inner circumferential surface of the outer ring, revolves around the central shaft while transmitting torque. In other words, the belt mechanism operates in the same way as a planetary gear. This creates a continuously variable transmission in which the gear ratio changes when the inner diameter of the outer ring shrinks in response to the load.
Alternatively, in the above aspect, the torque transmission part (4) includes an elastically deformable flexible cylinder (30) having an outer peripheral surface and an inner peripheral surface having a circumferential length shorter than the circumferential length of the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring (12) when the outer ring inner member (42) is most contracted, a plurality of rollers (31) extending along the central axis (X), a roller support member (carrier 22) supporting the plurality of rollers, and a belt mechanism (21) including an endless belt (33) wound around the plurality of rollers and having an outer surface that contacts the inner peripheral surface of the flexible cylinder and the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft, and at least one of the outer peripheral surface of the flexible cylinder and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring has dry adhesion, and at least one of the outer surface of the endless belt and the inner peripheral surface of the flexible cylinder and the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft has dry adhesion.
According to this aspect, when the central shaft rotates, the belt mechanism, which has an endless belt abutting the outer peripheral surface of the central shaft and the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring, revolves around the central shaft while transmitting torque. In other words, the belt mechanism acts in the same way as a planetary gear. In addition, when the flexible cylinder deforms so as to rotate one revolution around its major axis with the outer peripheral surface of the approximately elliptical major axis portion abutting the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring as the belt mechanism revolves, it rotates by the difference in circumferential length between the outer peripheral surface and the inner peripheral surface. This results in a transmission mechanism with a large gear ratio. In addition, when the inner diameter of the outer ring shrinks in response to the load, the difference in circumferential length suddenly decreases, causing a large change in the gear ratio.
In a configuration in which the torque transmission unit (4, 104) includes the flexible cylinder (30), it is preferable that the torque transmission unit (4, 104) further includes a biasing member (
According to this aspect, when the inner diameter of the inner member of the outer ring changes, a circumferential portion of the flexible cylinder can be brought into surface contact with the inner surface of the outer ring while changing its curvature. This maintains a torque-transmitting relationship between the inner member of the outer ring and the flexible cylinder.
In a configuration in which the continuously variable transmission is provided with the flexible cylinder (30), the continuously variable transmission may further include an elastic holding member (60) that resiliently holds the flexible cylinder from the outside around its entire circumference.
According to this aspect, the shape of the flexible cylinder is stabilized even in areas other than the area where the shape is stabilized by contact with the inner member of the outer ring. In addition, an elastic retaining member can be used as a member for outputting torque.
In the embodiment including the belt mechanism (21), the belt mechanism may further include a biasing member (spring member 36) that resiliently biases the endless belt (33) toward the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring (12) when the inner diameter of the outer ring inner member (42) changes.
According to this aspect, when the inner diameter of the inner member of the outer ring changes, a circumferential portion of the endless belt can be brought into surface contact with the radially outer member while changing its curvature. This maintains a torque-transmitting relationship between the inner member of the outer ring or the flexible cylinder and the endless belt.
In a configuration equipped with the belt mechanism (21), the roller support member (22) may elastically support the rollers (31) so as to bias the endless belt (33) from the inside toward the outside.
According to this aspect, when the inner diameter of the inner member of the outer ring is reduced, the rollers can move relative to the roller support member, so that the endless belt can be biased outward and brought into surface contact with the member on the radially outer side without applying excessive tension to the endless belt.
The above aspects make it possible to provide a continuously variable transmission that is small and lightweight, yet capable of transmitting large torque and high-speed torque.

The fixed
The fixed
The movable
The movable

The
The
The

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the continuously

The

The five rows of
The
A dry adhesive sheet 39 (see FIG. 9) is attached to the entire outer circumferential surface of the
As shown in FIG. 4, the pair of
The
In this embodiment, since the
The
When the
The operation of the continuously
When the
The
In the above-described continuously
When the
The
If the circumferential length of the outer peripheral surface of the
On the other hand, since the movable
As a result, when the
The operation of the fixed
In other embodiments, the inner circumferential surface of the movable
When the inner circumferential surface of the movable
On the other hand, if the inner circumferential surface of the movable
However, the
For example, if the reduction ratio of a mechanism equivalent to the planetary gear mechanism in the continuously
On the other hand, when torque is input to the movable
This speed change mechanism is described in detail in Japanese Patent Application No. 2021-163663 by the present applicant. Please refer to that application for details of the configuration and operation of the speed change mechanism. The disclosure of Japanese Patent Application No. 2021-163663 is incorporated herein by reference.
As described above, according to the continuously
The continuously
Dry adhesion is achieved by at least one of the outer surface of the rotating member and the inner surface of the
In the second embodiment, an example is given. In the case where the
The continuously
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view taken along line V-V in Figure 2, and Figure 6 is an enlarged view of part VI in Figure 5. Note that while Figure 5 shows a cross-section of the fixed
As shown in Figures 5 and 6, the
The
The outer ring
Next, the operation of the
7B shows a load acting state in which a load is acting on the output member due to the rotation of the
When the inner circumference of the
Thus, the
As shown in FIG. 6, the outer ring
Next, referring to FIG. 8, the operation of the
The
Figure 9 is a schematic diagram of the
The outer ring
The outer ring
In this way, the
As shown in FIG. 3, the
The
Figure 10 is a side view showing the holding structure of the
11 is a side view of the elastic retaining
In this way, by providing the elastic retaining
Second Embodiment
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to Fig. 12. Elements having the same or similar form or function as those in the first embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and duplicated explanations will be omitted.
Figure 12 is a schematic diagram of the
The continuously
The continuously
As in the first embodiment, when a load is applied to the output member by the rotation of the
In this embodiment, the
Third Embodiment
Next, a third embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 13. Elements having the same or similar form or function as those in the first embodiment are given the same reference numerals, and duplicated descriptions will be omitted.
Figure 13 is a schematic diagram of the
The continuously
The
The elastic
The continuously
As in the first embodiment, when a load is applied to the output member by the rotation of the
In this embodiment, the
