Description
The present invention relates to a portable thermal printing device having a thermal head.
In a thermal printer, a large amount of power is required to heat the heating element of the thermal head and color the thermal paper. To achieve this large amount of power, the driving power supply that is supplied to the heating element has a higher voltage value and a larger current value than the control power supply that controls the ON/OFF of the heating element. Furthermore, the driving power supply that is supplied to the heating element is frequently turned ON/OFF in a short period of time and also passes a large current, so the voltage is prone to fluctuations. As a countermeasure, a large-capacity capacitor is connected to the driving power supply to suppress the fluctuations. As a result, the charge accumulated in the capacitor, etc. remains for a long time after the driving power supply is turned off after printing, etc. If the charge remains in the capacitor of the driving power supply for a long time when the control power supply is turned off, the thermal head may operate unintentionally, causing unintentional printing, or in the worst case, the thermal head may be damaged. Therefore, it is desirable to quickly discharge the remaining charge after the driving power supply is turned off.
To solve this problem, for example,
However, after the power is turned off, the control power supply that controls the power supply to the heating element of the thermal head also drops, so the control unit can only control the power supply to the heating element up to a voltage that it can control, and there is a possibility that the charge remaining in the capacitor cannot be completely discharged. Furthermore, if the thermal head is operated to discharge electricity while the control unit is not operating, unintended printing may occur, and in the worst case scenario, the thermal head may be damaged.

Third Embodiment
A printing device according to a third embodiment of the present invention will be described. Descriptions of parts common to the first embodiment will be omitted. In the control performed when the power is turned off in the printing device according to this embodiment, the condition for measuring the residual charge in the drive unit in the first embodiment is changed from the voltage threshold to whether the voltage of the drive unit falls below the voltage of the control unit.
The configuration of the printing device in this embodiment, the current flow in the printing device, and the block diagram of the processing flow are the same as those in the first embodiment.
Below, the differences in the print control processing procedure from the first embodiment will be explained using the flowchart in Figure 7. Note that the same step numbers will be used for processes that are common to the flowchart in Figure 5 in the first embodiment, and explanations will be omitted.
If in S522 the voltage of the
If the voltage of the
If the voltage of the
If the measured voltage is not equal to or greater than the threshold in step S526, the
