Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a continuous casting method.
In continuous casting, molten steel is temporarily stored in a tundish and is injected from above into the mold through a submerged nozzle, where the outer surface of the slab is cooled and solidified, and then the slab is pulled out from the bottom of the mold, allowing continuous casting. will be held. The solidified portion of the outer peripheral surface of the slab is called a solidified shell (hereinafter also simply referred to as "shell").
By the way, mass production of general-purpose low carbon steel for home appliances, building materials, automobiles, etc. is required, and it is necessary to efficiently produce slabs even in continuous casting. One way to improve production efficiency is to increase casting speed (throughput). On the other hand, the presence of surface defects on the steel sheet impairs its aesthetic appearance, so it is necessary to reduce the defects. However, generally speaking, increasing the casting speed in continuous casting increases the amount of molten steel supplied to the mold, which reduces the amount of molten steel discharged from the immersion nozzle. The flow rate of the molten steel increases, increasing the possibility that inclusions and air bubbles in the molten steel will be trapped on the surface of the slab, and that mold flux in the mold will be trapped on the surface of the slab. If inclusions, bubbles, or mold flux are captured and remain on the surface of the slab, they will cause defects on the surface of the steel plate after rolling. Currently, countermeasures are taken to ensure surface quality, such as setting an upper limit on the casting speed and applying a static magnetic field to the discharge flow to brake the discharge flow. A device that applies a static magnetic field to the discharge flow is also called an electromagnetic brake core. Furthermore, a technique is also known in which an electromagnetic stirring core installed on the long side surface of the upper part of the mold applies an alternating magnetic field to the slab in the mold. This alternating magnetic field forms an agitating flow, which can suppress inclusions, bubbles, and mold flux from being trapped in the shell.
However, especially in the high throughput range, the above-mentioned measures alone were insufficient. To be more specific, molten steel is supplied into the mold from the discharge hole of the immersion nozzle, but in a high throughput range, if the discharge flow is unstable, even if an electromagnetic brake or electromagnetic stirring is applied to the slab, it will not work. In some cases, the surface quality of the pieces deteriorated. Specifically, if the area of the discharge hole of the immersion nozzle is too large for the molten steel throughput, a suction flow will occur in the upper part of the hole, and one-sided flow (biased flow) between the left and right discharge holes will frequently occur. As a result, the reverse flow on the short side on the drifting side increases, and the surface quality of the slab deteriorates due to the capture of inclusions and air bubbles in the solidified shell and the entrainment of mold flux. On the other hand, if the area of the discharge hole is too small, the linear flow velocity of the discharge flow becomes too high, and large reverse flows are formed on both the left and right sides, which similarly deteriorates the surface quality of the slab.
As described above, simply installing an electromagnetic stirring device and an electromagnetic brake device and operating each of them does not necessarily reduce the amount of inclusions and bubbles that are taken into the shell. Furthermore, when both types of equipment are applied simultaneously, their effects may not add up but may even cancel each other out. In particular, electromagnetic brakes have the property that the magnetic flux density is highest at the center in the width direction of the installed core, so when the magnetic flux intensity is increased, an extreme braking force acts near the immersion nozzle discharge hole, causing the molten metal level in the mold to In some cases, it may even encourage fluctuations.
In both of the methods described in
Since the method described in
Therefore, the present inventors aimed to improve the quality of slabs by trapping inclusions and bubbles in the solidified shell caused by drifting and reverse flow in molten steel throughput of 4.0 ton/min or more and 8.0 ton/min or less, and by entraining mold flux. In order to reduce the decrease in water, we considered using electromagnetic stirring and an electromagnetic brake in combination, as well as appropriately designing the immersion nozzle discharge hole.
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a continuous casting method that can improve the surface quality of slabs and further suppress the occurrence of breakouts in continuous casting of low carbon steel.

<1. Continuous casting machine configuration>
First, the overall configuration of a continuous casting machine capable of producing slabs according to this embodiment will be briefly described. As shown in FIG. 1, a
The
The
In addition, in the following description, the up-down direction (namely, the direction in which the
Although illustration is omitted in FIG. 1 to avoid complicating the drawing, in this embodiment, an electromagnetic force is applied to the outer surface (i.e., the outer side of the long side surface) of the long side mold plate of the
The
The support rolls provided in the

The
The
The segment rolls 13 (also referred to as guide rolls) are non-driven rolls provided in the
The

FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the
Referring to FIGS. 2 to 5, the
As described above, the
Here, in this embodiment, continuous casting of steel slabs is targeted, and the slab size is, for example, about 800 to 2300 mm in width (i.e. length in the X-axis direction), or about 1000 to 1800 mm, and thickness (i.e. , the length in the Y-axis direction) is about 150 to 300 mm, or about 200 to 270 mm. That is, the
Further, in this embodiment, in order to more effectively obtain the effect of improving the quality of the
The
Since the
The long-
The
A water channel (not shown) through which cooling water passes is formed inside the long
The electromagnetic
The
The detailed configuration of the
The
A
An AC power source (not shown) is connected to each of the
The width W1 of the
The
As shown in FIG. 6, the
The detailed configuration of the
In addition, in the
The
A
A DC power source (not shown) is connected to each of the
The width W0 of the
When the

First, the reason for limiting the components of molten steel will be explained.
C: 0.01% by mass or more and 0.07% by mass or less In order to ensure the strength of the steel, the C content is set to 0.01% by mass or more. On the other hand, if the C content is too large, the formability of the steel will deteriorate, so the C content should be 0.07% by mass or less.
Si: 0.05% by mass or more and 0.5% by mass or less Since Si has the effect of strengthening steel, it is added to molten steel in an amount of 0.05% by mass or more depending on the required strength. On the other hand, if the Si content is too large, the formability of the molten steel will deteriorate, so the Si content should be 0.5% by mass or less.
Mn: 0.01% by mass or more and 0.5% by mass or less Since Mn has the effect of strengthening steel, 0.01% by mass or more is added to molten steel as necessary. On the other hand, if the Mn content is too large, the formability of the molten steel will deteriorate, so the Mn content is set to 0.5% by mass or less.
The remainder of the molten steel is iron and impurities. Impurities are components that are mixed into steel during the steel manufacturing process, and do not affect the properties of steel. Impurities are, for example, unavoidable impurities.
Next, the reason for limiting the throughput will be explained. The throughput (ton/min) is mold thickness (mm) x mold width (mm) x casting speed (mm/min) x molten steel density (7.0 x 10 -6 kg/mm 3 ) x 1000 (kg/ton). ) is calculated. The impact strength of the molten steel flow on the short side of the slab and the fluctuation of the molten steel level largely depend on the molten steel flow velocity from the immersion nozzle discharge hole, but since this is proportional to the throughput, it is appropriate to use this index (i.e., throughput). .
When the throughput is less than 4.0 ton/min, the flow rate of molten steel from the submerged

If the alternating magnetic field generated by the
If the static magnetic field generated by the
Next, the reason for limiting the total area (mm) of the discharge holes 6a of the

Tp=T×W×Vc×ρ/1000

If the total area of the
If the total area of the
Here, the ratio of the vertical dimension to the horizontal dimension (aspect ratio) of the
Moreover, the angle of the
Here, the magnetic field strength of the electromagnetic stirrer and electromagnetic brake is determined by the applied conditions (current, frequency) when operating the electromagnetic stirrer and electromagnetic brake core in a cold mold without molten steel, and the applied conditions (current, frequency) at the center of the core. This was determined based on the results of measuring the relationship between magnetic field strength. Regarding the electromagnetic stirring intensity, since it was an alternating magnetic field, the maximum value of the time change in magnetic flux density was taken as the value of the magnetic field intensity.
As explained above, according to the continuous casting method according to the present embodiment, the magnetic field strength of the
Next, an example of this embodiment will be described. In this example, the mold is made of water-cooled copper (water-cooled copper mold) and has a rectangular cross section with a length of 900 mm. The continuous casting machine was a vertical bending type. In the molten steel used in this embodiment, C is 0.05% by mass, Mn is 0.3% by mass, Si is 0.15% by mass, and the remainder is iron and impurities. In this example, the molten steel contains 0.012% by mass of P, 0.0035% by mass of S, and 0.02% by mass of Al as impurities. Casting was performed with the specific water amount for secondary cooling being 1.5 to 2.5 L/kg-steel. Here, the specific gravity when calculating the molten steel throughput was set to 7.0×10 −6 kg/mm 3 . The amount of argon gas blown into the immersion nozzle was 7 NL/min. The upper end of the electromagnetic stirring core was 100 mm from the upper end of the mold, and the height (distance in the casting direction) from the upper end to the lower end of the electromagnetic stirring core was 250 mm. The upper end of the electromagnetic brake core was 500 mm from the upper end of the mold, and the height from the upper end to the lower end of the electromagnetic brake core was 200 mm. The aspect ratio h/w of the discharge hole was 1.3, the angle of the discharge hole was 45° downward, and the shape of the discharge hole was rectangular.
After casting and rolling, the surface of the steel sheet coil was visually inspected to count the degree and number of surface defects. If no harmful surface defects were found, it was marked ◎, if there were a small number of surface defects but they could be removed by rounding down etc., it was marked ○, and if many surface defects were found and they could not be removed, it was marked ×. ◎ and ○ were considered to be a passing level, and × was a failing level. The results are shown in Table 1.
In Table 1, the number of electromagnetic brake cores indicates the number of pairs of iron cores that constitute the electromagnetic brake core. * indicates an item that does not satisfy the conditions of this embodiment. Further, for example, in the case of a throughput of 4.16 ton/min, the area of the submerged nozzle discharge hole that satisfies the conditions of this embodiment is 5200 to 11885 mm 2 .
Invention Examples 1 to 9 all satisfy the conditions of this embodiment. Therefore, all surface defects in the steel plate were at an acceptable level.
Comparative Example 1 is a continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and is an example in which only an electromagnetic stirring core is installed and no electromagnetic brake is provided. Although the cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole is 11,000 mm2 , which is within the range of this embodiment, since the discharge flow is not braked, reverse flow becomes noticeable, causing inclusions and bubble defects in the slab, and causing defects in the steel plate. An acceptable level of defect occurred.
Comparative Example 2 is a continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and although an electromagnetic stirring core and an electromagnetic brake core were installed, only one pair of iron cores making up the electromagnetic brake core was used. This is an example in which the static magnetic field in the width direction is unipolar. The cross-sectional area of the discharge hole of the immersion nozzle was the same as that of Invention Example 1. Under these conditions, the magnetic field at the center of the mold width is large compared to the result of the present invention example in which there are two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores, and an excessive upward flow occurs near the nozzle, inhibiting the electromagnetic stirring flow. Inclusions and bubble defects occurred in the pieces, resulting in unacceptable defects in the steel plate.
Comparative Example 3 is an example of continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. The cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was the same as that of Invention Example 1. In this example, the electromagnetic stirring strength was 0.01T, which was insufficient stirring force, and a sufficient stirring flow was not provided to suppress the fluctuation of the melt level, and inclusions and air bubbles remained on the surface layer of the slab, resulting in the steel plate A failure level defect occurred.
Comparative Example 4 is an example of continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. The cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was the same as that of Invention Example 1. In this example, although the electromagnetic brake strength was 0.2 T, which was within the range of this embodiment, the electromagnetic stirring was 0.18 T, which was greater than the range of this embodiment. As a result, the melt level fluctuation due to electromagnetic stirring became large, mold flux was entangled in the slab, resulting in surface defects, and as a result, defects at the level of failure occurred in the steel plate.
Comparative Example 5 is an example of continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. The cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was the same as that of Invention Example 1. In this example, the electromagnetic brake strength was set to 0.1 T, a value smaller than the range of this embodiment. Therefore, the braking of the discharge flow was insufficient and a reverse flow occurred, and this reverse flow inhibited the electromagnetic stirring flow, so that inclusions and air bubbles remained on the surface layer of the slab. As a result, defects at the level of failure occurred in the steel plate.
Comparative Example 6 is an example of continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. The cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was the same as that of Invention Example 1. In this example, the electromagnetic stirring strength was 0.05T, which was within the range of this embodiment, but the electromagnetic braking strength was 0.6T, which was outside the range of this embodiment. For this reason, molten steel accumulated near the nozzle, forming an upward flow at the center in the width direction of the slab, and obstructing the electromagnetic stirring flow. As a result, inclusions and bubble defects occurred in the surface layer of the slab, and defects at the level of failure occurred in the steel plate.
Comparative Example 7 is an example of continuous casting with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. In this example, the cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was set to 12,500 mm 2 , which is larger than the range of this embodiment. Although the electromagnetic stirring strength and the electromagnetic brake strength are within the range of this embodiment, the cross-sectional area of the discharge hole is too large for the throughput, and negative pressure (suction flow) is formed at the upper part of the discharge hole, increasing the frequency of uneven flow and causing reverse flow. Inclusions and bubble defects occurred on the surface layer of the slab along with the obstruction of the electromagnetic stirring flow. Furthermore, mold flux was caught in the slab due to the negative pressure above the discharge hole, resulting in surface layer defects. As a result, defects at the level of failure occurred in the steel plate.
Comparative Example 8 is an example in which continuous casting was performed with a throughput of 4.16 ton/min similar to Invention Example 1, and an electromagnetic stirring core and two pairs of electromagnetic brake cores were installed. In this example, the cross-sectional area of the immersion nozzle discharge hole was set to 5000 mm 2 , which is smaller than the range of this embodiment. In this example, although the electromagnetic stirring strength and the electromagnetic brake strength are within the range of the invention, the cross-sectional area of the discharge hole is too small for the throughput, and the flow velocity of the molten steel wire in the discharge hole becomes too high and cannot be stopped by the electromagnetic brake, resulting in a reverse flow. Inclusions and bubble defects occurred on the surface layer of the slab. As a result, defects at the level of failure occurred in the steel plate.
