Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a carbon fiber aggregate.
In recent years, carbon fiber aggregates in which carbon fibers are bound with resin carbide are used in various applications such as gas diffusion layers of fuel cells and heat insulating materials of induction heating furnaces.
For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a porous carbon plate in which carbon fibers and carbonaceous powder used as a gas diffusion layer of a fuel cell are bound with resin carbide, and has a thickness of 0.1 to 0.3 mm and a density of 0 .25 to 0.55 g/cm 3 , bending strength in a three-point bending test (JIS K6911-1995 compliant) is in the range of 20 MPa or more, and pore diameter is in the range of 25 to 55 μm. A porous carbon plate is disclosed.
When manufacturing the porous carbon plate described in Patent Document 1, a carbon fiber aggregate is impregnated with a resin, and the carbon fiber aggregate is fired. By firing the carbon fiber aggregate, the resin becomes a resin carbide.
The carbon fibers forming the carbon fiber aggregate are produced by firing a carbon fiber precursor.
That is, when manufacturing the porous carbon plate described in Patent Document 1, at least two firing steps are required, one for producing the carbon fiber and one for carbonizing the resin.
In manufacturing a porous carbon plate, if the number of sintering steps increases, a large amount of energy is required, and there is a problem that the environmental load such as CO 2 emission increases.
When the porous carbon substrate described in Patent Document 1 is used as a gas diffusion layer, the electrical conductivity is insufficient and there is room for improvement.
The present invention is an invention made to solve the above problems, and an object of the present invention is a method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate that sufficiently suppresses environmental loads such as CO 2 emissions and has sufficiently high conductivity. is to provide
The method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention includes an aggregate forming step of gathering carbon fiber precursors to form an aggregate, and a resin impregnation step of impregnating the aggregate with a resin to form a resin-impregnated aggregate. and firing the resin-impregnated aggregate while pressurizing it, thereby converting the carbon fiber precursor and the resin into carbon fibers and a resin carbide, respectively, and firing the resin-impregnated aggregate into a carbon fiber aggregate. and a step.
In the sintering step of the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, the carbon fiber precursor and the resin are made into the carbon fiber and the resin charcoal at the same time, so the number of sintering can be reduced compared to the case where they are individually sintered. . Therefore, it is possible to reduce the environmental load such as CO 2 emissions associated with firing.
Moreover, in the sintering step of the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, sintering is performed while applying pressure.
Therefore, even if the carbon fiber precursor or the resin is partly decomposed by the heat during firing and shrinkage or deformation occurs, the shrinkage or deformation can be filled with pressure. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the formation of voids only partially in the produced carbon fiber aggregate. Moreover, in the produced carbon fiber aggregate, it is possible to prevent stress from being applied only to a part of the carbonized resin, thereby preventing the carbonized resin from being cracked or peeled off. As a result, the strength of the produced carbon fiber aggregate can be increased.
Incidentally, in the carbon fiber aggregate, the resin carbide forms a conductive path. As described above, in the carbon fiber aggregate produced by the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, cracks and peeling of the resin charcoal are less likely to occur, resulting in high electrical conductivity.
Therefore, when the carbon fiber aggregate is required to have high conductivity, the carbon fiber aggregate produced by the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention is useful.
In the firing step of the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, it is preferable to perform firing only once.
When the carbon fiber precursor and the resin are converted into the carbon fiber and the resin charcoal by one firing, it is possible to reduce the environmental load such as CO 2 emission accompanying the firing.
In the present specification, "fired only once" means that the resin-impregnated assembly is heated without an interval such as a cooling period from the start of heating to the end of firing.
In the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, the carbon fiber precursor is preferably subjected to a flameproofing treatment.
The flameproofing treatment is to change the chemical structure of the carbon fiber precursor by a cyclization reaction. If the carbon fiber precursor is flameproofed, the carbon fiber precursor melts during carbonization and graphitization. can be prevented.
In the sintering step of the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, sintering is preferably performed at 1000 to 2500° C. for 1 to 60 minutes.
By heating under the above conditions, the carbon fiber precursor and the resin are suitably sintered into the carbon fiber and the resin carbide, respectively.
In the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, the resin is at least one selected from the group consisting of phenol resin, epoxy resin, furan resin, melamine resin, imide resin, urethane resin, aramid resin and pitch. is preferred.
These resins are suitable for forming resin carbides.
In the firing step of the method for producing a carbon fiber aggregate of the present invention, it is preferable to apply a pressure of 0.1 to 50 kPa to the resin-impregnated aggregate.
By heating the resin-impregnated assembly while applying a pressure within the above range, it is possible to further prevent cracks and peeling of the resin carbide.
In the carbon fiber assembly manufacturing method of the present invention, the weight ratio of the resin to the weight of the carbon fiber precursor is preferably 5 to 80% by weight.
If the weight ratio is less than 5% by weight, the amount of the resin is small, so it becomes difficult to bond the carbon fibers together.
If the weight ratio exceeds 80% by weight, the number of carbon fibers is relatively small, and the strength of the carbon fiber aggregate tends to be lowered.

In the firing step, the
