Abstract
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a method and equipment for producing a solid electrolyte.
2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, with the rapid spread of information-related equipment such as personal computers, video cameras, mobile phones, and communication equipment, the development of batteries used as power sources for these devices has been emphasized. Lithium batteries are attracting attention as batteries used in these devices because of their high energy density. Solid electrolytes are being developed because of their excellent properties and safety.
For example, Patent Document 1 reports that lithium sulfide, diphosphorus pentasulfide, and lithium iodide are reacted in an organic solvent by wet mechanical milling to produce a solid electrolyte. Further, Patent Document 2 discloses that a lithium compound, a phosphorus compound and a halogen compound are reacted in a solvent containing a hydrocarbon and an ether compound to produce a solid electrolyte.
By the way, in recent years, with the rapid spread of the above-mentioned information-related equipment, communication equipment, etc., there is a demand for a large amount of solid electrolyte at a lower cost. There is a demand for the development of equipment. When using a larger manufacturing facility, there may be problems that were not a problem with the smaller manufacturing facility. For example, in the method of reacting raw materials in a solvent, such as the production methods described in Patent Documents 1 and 2, the obtained reaction product is dried, and the solvent ( It is common to perform a drying treatment after discarding the supernatant. However, when larger production facilities are used, the amount of solvent to be discarded increases, resulting in increased production costs and environmental impact, making it difficult to dispose of solvents as in the past.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and provides a production method and production equipment capable of producing a high-performance solid electrolyte while reducing the amount of waste liquid discharged from the production equipment. With the goal.

(Reaction in solvent)
In the method for producing a solid electrolyte according to the present embodiment, the reaction of raw materials containing at least lithium side element, elemental sulfur and elemental phosphorus must be carried out in a solvent. By conducting the reaction in a solvent, the contact between the raw materials is promoted and the reaction proceeds more easily, so that the ionic conductivity increases and better battery performance can be obtained.
Solvents used in the present embodiment include hydrocarbon solvents such as aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, alicyclic hydrocarbon solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; alcohol solvents, ester solvents, aldehyde solvents, ketone solvents, Solvents containing carbon atoms such as ether solvents and solvents containing carbon atoms and heteroatoms are preferred.
More specifically, aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents such as hexane, pentane, 2-ethylhexane, heptane, octane, decane, undecane, dodecane, and tridecane; alicyclic hydrocarbon solvents such as cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane; benzene and toluene. , xylene, mesitylene, ethylbenzene, tert-butylbenzene, trifluoromethylbenzene, nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, chlorotoluene, bromobenzene and other aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; ethanol, butanol and other aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; ethyl acetate, butyl acetate and other aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; Ester solvents; aldehyde solvents such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and dimethylformamide; ketone solvents such as acetone and methyl ethyl ketone; ether solvents such as diethyl ether, dibutyl ether and tetrahydrofuran; carbon disulfide, diethyl ether, dibutyl ether, tetrahydrofuran and the like and solvents containing carbon atoms and heteroatoms.
Among these, hydrocarbon solvents are preferred, aromatic hydrocarbon solvents are more preferred, toluene, xylene and ethylbenzene are more preferred, and toluene is particularly preferred. It should be noted that using water as a solvent is not preferable because it lowers the battery performance of the solid electrolyte.
Moreover, when using the substance X2 as a raw material, it is preferable to use a solvent capable of dissolving the substance X2 . By selecting such a solvent, direct contact between the substance X2 and various devices such as a reaction tank is reduced, so corrosion of various devices can be further suppressed. In addition, since the unreacted substance X2 can be easily removed from the solid electrolyte by dissolving the substance X2 in the solvent, it is possible to obtain a solid electrolyte that does not contain the substance X2 as an impurity or contains only a small amount of the substance X2. Furthermore, since the reaction rate is improved, the solid electrolyte can be obtained more efficiently.
As the solvent capable of dissolving the substance X2, the solubility of the substance X2 is preferably 0.01% by mass or more , more preferably 0.03% by mass or more, and still more preferably 0.05% by mass. The above, particularly preferably 0.1% by mass or more, are used. The upper limit of the solubility of the substance X2 is not particularly limited, but for example, solubility of 60% by mass or less, 55% by mass or less, or 10% by mass or less can be exemplified.
Here, the solubility of substance X2 is measured as follows.
Substance X 2 (2 g) was added to 3 mL of solvent and stirred at room temperature (25° C.) for 20 minutes. 0.1 g of the supernatant was weighed, and 1 g of an aqueous sodium thiosulfate solution (10% by mass, Na 2 S 2 O 3 ) was added to the supernatant and shaken for about 1 minute to confirm that the coloration of the solution had disappeared. . The iodine concentration of the above solution was quantified by ICP emission spectrometry ( high frequency inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry), and the solubility of substance X2 was calculated.
The solvent is preferably a solvent that hardly dissolves the alkali metal sulfide, for example, a solvent in which the solubility of the alkali metal sulfide is 1% by mass or less. When alkali metal sulfide is used as a raw material, the amount of alkali metal sulfide dissolved in the solvent is reduced by using such a solvent, so that it can be consumed more efficiently in the reaction with substance X2 and the like. can. The solubility of the alkali metal sulfide is more preferably 0.5% by mass or less, still more preferably 0.1% by mass or less, and even more preferably 0.07% by mass or less. Also, there is no limit on the lower limit of the solubility of the alkali metal sulfide.
Here, the solubility of alkali metal sulfide is measured as follows.
Alkali metal sulfide was added to the solvent and mixed well at 20° C. (room temperature). Alkali metal sulfide that could not be dissolved in the solvent was visually observed in the solution. The resulting solution was then subjected to inductively coupled plasma (ICP) emission spectrometry using an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) emission spectrometer. The content of the alkali metal in the solution thus obtained, that is, the content of the alkali metal dissolved in the solvent was measured, and the solubility (% by mass) of the alkali metal sulfide was calculated.
Examples of such solvents include hydrocarbon solvents such as aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents, alicyclic hydrocarbon solvents, and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents; Solvents are preferred.
Further, for example, when bromine ( Br 2 ) is used as the substance X 2 , one substituted with an electron-withdrawing group such as tert- A solvent having a benzene ring such as butylbenzene, trifluoromethylbenzene, nitrobenzene, chlorobenzene, chlorotoluene, etc. can be used.
The amount of the solvent used is such that the total amount of raw materials used per liter of the solvent is preferably 0.01 kg or more, more preferably 0.05 kg or more, and still more preferably 0.2 kg or more, The upper limit is preferably 1 kg or less, more preferably 0.8 kg or less, still more preferably 0.7 kg or less. When the amount of the solvent used is within the above range, a slurry is obtained, and the raw materials can be reacted more smoothly.
The raw materials can be reacted in a solvent by, for example, mixing, stirring, pulverizing, or a combination thereof.
The mixing method is not particularly limited, and for example, the raw materials and, if necessary, the solvent, etc. may be charged into an apparatus capable of mixing the solvent and the raw materials, and mixed. The apparatus is not particularly limited as long as it can mix the raw materials, solvent, etc., and for example, a media type pulverizer can be used.
The medium-type pulverizer is roughly classified into a container-driven pulverizer and a medium-agitation pulverizer. Examples of the container-driven pulverizer include a stirring tank, a pulverizing tank, or a combination of these, such as a ball mill and a bead mill (for example, those having the configuration shown in FIG. 1, as used in the examples). . Examples of medium agitating pulverizers include impact pulverizers such as cutter mills, hammer mills and pin mills; tower type pulverizers such as tower mills; stirring tank type pulverizers such as attritors, aquamizers and sand grinders; circulation tank-type pulverizers such as pearl mills; circulation tube-type pulverizers; annular-type pulverizers such as coball mills; continuous dynamic pulverizers;
These pulverizers can be appropriately selected according to the desired scale, etc. For relatively small scales, container-driven pulverizers such as ball mills and bead mills can be used. Alternatively, for mass production, other types of pulverizers may be used.
When these pulverizers are used, raw materials, solvents, etc., and pulverization media are put in, the device is started, and mixing, stirring, and pulverization can be carried out. Here, the raw material, solvent, etc. are charged to the grinding media, but the order of charging is not limited.
In the method for producing a solid electrolyte of the present embodiment, by mixing the raw material and the solvent, the raw materials are more likely to come into contact with each other, the reaction proceeds further, and the solid electrolyte is obtained. From the viewpoint of promoting contact between the raw materials and efficiently obtaining a solid electrolyte, it is preferable to mix the solvent and the raw materials, and then to perform stirring, pulverization, or a combination thereof. In addition, from the viewpoint of promoting contact between raw materials, it is preferable to perform a treatment including pulverization, that is, pulverization, or agitating and pulverizing. By performing a treatment including pulverization, the surface of the raw material is scraped off, a new surface is exposed, and the new surface and the surface of the other raw material come into contact, so the reaction between the raw materials proceeds more efficiently. Solid electrolytes are often obtained.
For example, using devices such as ball mills and bead mills, these mills are used to measure the particle size of media such as balls and beads (usually about φ2 to 20 mm for balls and about φ0.02 to 2 mm for beads), materials (for example , metals such as stainless steel, chrome steel, and tungsten carbide; ceramics such as zirconia and silicon nitride; Treatment can be performed, and the particle size of the obtained solid electrolyte can be adjusted.
In this embodiment, these conditions are not particularly limited. Stirring and grinding can be done at ~1000 rpm for 0.5-100 hours.
The temperature during mixing, stirring, and pulverization is not particularly limited, but may be, for example, 20 to 80°C.
In this embodiment, after mixing the raw materials with the solvent and the like, the raw materials may be further added and mixed, and this may be repeated twice or more.
When the raw materials and the solvent are mixed and stirred, the raw materials may be further added and mixed, mixed and stirred during and/or after the mixing and stirring, and this may be repeated twice or more. For example, the raw material and solvent or the like may be put into a ball mill or bead mill container, mixing and stirring may be started, and the raw material may be further put into the container during mixing and stirring, or after mixing and stirring (mixing and after the stirring is temporarily stopped), the raw materials may be charged into the container and the mixing and stirring may be resumed, or the raw materials may be charged into the container during and after the mixing and stirring.
In addition, when the raw material, solvent, etc. are mixed and pulverized, or when the mixture is stirred and pulverized, the raw material may be further added in the same manner as in the case of stirring.
In this way, by further adding the raw material, the number of treatments such as removal of the solvent to be performed as necessary can be reduced, so that the solid electrolyte can be obtained more efficiently.
In addition, when further raw materials are added, a solvent may be added as necessary, but since the solvent may be removed when obtaining the solid electrolyte, it is preferable to keep the amount of addition to a necessary minimum.

(Solid-liquid separation)
The solid electrolyte-containing liquid obtained by the above method comprises mainly solid electrolytes, unreacted raw materials (for example, solid raw materials such as lithium sulfide and diphosphorus pentasulfide), etc., and mainly solvent and unreacted solids. Raw materials (for example, substance X 2 , etc.), sulfur that is a reaction by-product due to the reaction between raw materials, and compounds represented by the above general formulas (2) and (3), for example, a solvent, sulfur and raw materials It consists of a liquid containing a halogen element, etc., which is generated by the reaction, and a reaction by-product, etc., generated by the reaction. In the manufacturing method of the present embodiment, it is necessary to separate the solid electrolyte-containing liquid composed of solid and liquid into solid and liquid by solid-liquid separation. By solid-liquid separation of the solid electrolyte-containing liquid, it is possible to recover the solvent contained in the liquid, and to reduce the load in the subsequent drying treatment as required.
The solid-liquid separation method is not particularly limited, but for example, a method using a centrifugal separator, a method using a vacuum filter such as a batch vacuum filter, and a method of recovering the liquid by decantation. etc. In the present embodiment, since a drying treatment can be performed thereafter as necessary, it is possible to accept a slurry-like solid with a liquid such as a solvent, and that it can be performed with less equipment. Taking this into account, it is preferable to separate the solid and the liquid by recovering the liquid by decantation.
The solids recovered by solid-liquid separation mainly contain solid electrolytes, unreacted raw materials (for example, solid raw materials such as lithium sulfide and diphosphorus pentasulfide), etc., but are accompanied by liquids such as solvents. It may be in the form of a slurry, and the content of solids in the slurry is preferably 5% by mass or more, more preferably 10% by mass or more, still more preferably 15% by mass or more, and the upper limit is preferably 50% by mass. % or less, more preferably 45 mass % or less, and still more preferably 40 mass % or less.
By solid separation, if the content of solids in the slurry containing solids is within the above range, the effect of reducing the amount of waste liquid discharged from the manufacturing facility by recovering the liquid, the scale and cost of the equipment used for solid-liquid separation, and becomes well-balanced.
The liquid recovered by solid-liquid separation mainly contains the solvent, unreacted raw materials (for example, substance X 2 ) and reaction by-products as described above, but solid electrolytes, unreacted raw materials, etc. may be included.
The content of sulfur, which is a reaction by-product due to the reaction between raw materials in the liquid recovered by solid-liquid separation, varies depending on the type of raw materials used and their blending ratio, so it cannot be determined unconditionally. In terms of sulfur atoms, it is usually about 0.1% by mass or more, and the upper limit is about 3% by mass or less.
The compounds represented by the general formulas (2) and (3) are usually dissolved or suspended in the solid electrolyte-containing liquid.
(Removal of sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds)
The method for producing a solid electrolyte according to the present embodiment includes removing sulfur-containing compounds contained in the liquid obtained by the solid-liquid separation. If the liquid contains a sulfur-containing compound, when the liquid is used for the reaction of the raw materials, the ionic conductivity is lowered, making it difficult to obtain excellent battery performance. Moreover, the use of the liquid for other purposes is also undesirable from the viewpoint of safety and the like.
Examples of the sulfur-containing compound include sulfur, which is a reaction by-product mainly due to the reaction between raw materials, and compounds represented by the above general formulas (2) and (3). Examples include reaction by-products containing at least elemental sulfur, which are produced by reactions with halogen elements and the like. The latter reaction by-product is, more specifically, a compound containing elemental sulfur among the compounds represented by the chemical formulas exemplified as representative examples of the compounds represented by the general formulas (2) and (3) above. (compounds in columns 2 and 3 of Exemplified Compounds). Here, the compound containing elemental chlorine is a compound detected mainly when chlorobenzene is used as a solvent, and the compound containing elemental bromine is mainly detected using bromine (Br 2 ), such as lithium bromide, as a raw material. It is a compound detected when a raw material containing a bromine element such as (LiBr) is used. Further, for example, when a raw material containing an iodine element such as iodine (I 2 ) or lithium iodide (LiI) is used as a raw material, a compound in which the bromine element of the above-mentioned compound containing the bromine element is replaced by the iodine element is produced. Mainly detected. Therefore, among the sulfur-containing compounds, the latter reaction by-product is a compound that can change depending on the type of raw material.
In addition, when a raw material containing a halogen element is used as a raw material, an organic halogen compound is generated as a reaction by-product. Battery performance becomes difficult to obtain. Moreover, the use of the liquid for other purposes is also undesirable from the viewpoint of safety and the like. Therefore, when a raw material containing a halogen element is used as the raw material, the production method of the present embodiment preferably includes removing the organic halogen compound from the liquid.
The organic halogen compound includes at least the halogen element contained in the raw material, which is generated by the reaction between the solvent and the halogen element contained in the raw material, such as the compounds represented by the above general formulas (2) and (3). It is a reaction by-product. Therefore, a solvent containing a halogen element such as chlorobenzene is not an organic halogen compound in the present embodiment.
As the organic halogen compound, among the compounds represented by the chemical formulas exemplified as representative examples of the compounds represented by the above general formulas (2) and (3), compounds containing a halogen element and not containing a sulfur element ( Exemplified compounds in the 1st row) can be mentioned. Therefore, the organic halogen compound is a compound that can change depending on the type of raw material.
Examples of methods for removing sulfur-containing compounds from liquids include oxide-based desulfurizing agents such as iron oxide and zinc oxide, Y-type zeolite ion-exchanged with copper (Cu) and cerium (Ce), and ion-exchanged with silver (Ag). Liquid-phase adsorption desulfurization method using a zeolite-based desulfurizing agent such as β zeolite, etc.; A hydrodesulfurization method using a hydrodesulfurization catalyst; a distillation method using a flash drum, a distillation column, or the like;
The boiling point of sulfur is usually about 444°C, the boiling point of the sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds represented by the general formulas (2) and (3) is usually about 170 to 210°C, and the boiling point of the solvent (for example, 111° C. for toluene and 131° C. for chlorobenzene), a distillation method using a flash drum, a distillation column, or the like is more preferable from the viewpoint of more easily removing sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds. In addition, when an organic halogen compound is contained in the liquid after solid-liquid separation, it is preferable to employ a distillation method from the viewpoint of removing the organic halogen compound at the same time.
Regarding the distillation method, when one solvent is used in the reaction, or when two or more solvents are used and there is no need to separate each solvent, sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds can be more easily separated. From the viewpoint of removal, a distillation method using a flash drum is more preferable. In addition, when two or more solvents are used in the reaction and it is necessary to separate each solvent, a distillation method using a distillation column may be employed.
When a distillation method is employed as a method for removing sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds, the distillation conditions are appropriately selected depending on the type of solvent, sulfur-containing compounds, and organic halogen compounds contained in the liquid, but usually 100 to 200. ° C., normal pressure or reduced pressure atmosphere (especially vacuum) is preferred.

By reusing the liquid after removal of sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds as a solvent in the raw material reaction, it is possible to reduce the amount of waste liquid discharged from the manufacturing facility and supply a new solvent for the raw material reaction. The amount can also be reduced, making it possible to manufacture the solid electrolyte at a lower cost.

In addition, by drying the slurry containing solids to remove the solvent, it is possible to remove sulfur, which is a reaction by-product.
As a method for drying the slurry containing solids, an appropriate method may be selected according to the amount of slurry containing solids to be dried. It is placed in a container and heated at 50 to 90° C. to volatilize the solvent. If the amount is relatively large, a method of drying using a drying apparatus such as various industrial dryers can be used.
As the drying device, for example, a drying device capable of drying while heating at about 50 to 90° C. under a reduced pressure atmosphere of about 1 to 80 kPa and stirring can be used. By using such a drying apparatus, the solid can be dried more efficiently, and the solvent can be easily recovered. As such a drying apparatus, those commercially available as a Henschel mixer or an FM mixer can be used.
The solvent (gas) obtained by drying the slurry containing solids contains particulate solids such as solid electrolytes and unreacted raw materials (for example, solid raw materials such as lithium sulfide and diphosphorus pentasulfide). There is In the present embodiment, the solvent (gas) containing particulate solids is removed by a particulate removing means such as a bag filter and then condensed to form a liquid, which can be used as desired. It can be reused. It is possible to reduce the amount of waste liquid discharged from manufacturing equipment and the amount of solvent newly supplied to the reaction of raw materials, and from the viewpoint of manufacturing solid electrolytes at a lower cost, it is possible to obtain by drying slurry containing solids. The solvent obtained is preferably reused as a solvent in the reaction of the raw materials. The obtained amorphous solid electrolyte, solvent, and solid electrolyte-containing liquid containing reaction by-products such as sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds are transferred to a tank for decantation, and solid-liquid separation is performed by decantation. and the supernatant was recovered as a liquid. The collected liquid was flashed with a flash drum (temperature: 150°C, pressure: normal pressure). With respect to the collected liquid and the liquid after flashing, the types of sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds were identified and the contents thereof were measured by gas chromatography. At this time, after removing the solid electrolyte with a Millipore filter, the liquid after flushing was corrected by gas chromatography, quantitative analysis was performed, and the type of compound was identified and its content was determined.
As a result of the measurement, the presence of sulfur as a sulfur-containing compound and the compounds represented by the following chemical formulas (1) and (2) as organic halogen compounds were confirmed. The content is 0.4% by mass, the total content of compounds (1) and (2) is 400 mass ppm, and the content of sulfur in terms of sulfur atoms in the liquid after flashing is 100 mass ppm or less , the total content of compounds (1) and (2) was 200 mass ppm or less. From these results, the liquid after flashing has extremely low contents of sulfur-containing compounds and organic halogen compounds of 1000 mass ppm or less and 200 mass ppm or less, respectively, and can be used instead of the dehydrated toluene. It was confirmed that the obtained toluene was of high quality.
Moreover, the solid content after the solid-liquid separation was dried at 80° C. using a dryer to obtain a powdery amorphous solid electrolyte. The powdery amorphous solid electrolyte thus obtained was subjected to powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement using an X-ray diffraction (XRD) device (SmartLab device, manufactured by Rigaku Corporation). It was found that there were no peaks other than those derived from the starting material. In addition, when the liquid obtained by condensing the gas exhausted from the dryer was analyzed by gas chromatography, it was confirmed to be high quality toluene with no detected sulfur-containing compounds or organic halogen compounds.

The powder after heating was subjected to powder X-ray analysis (XRD) measurement using an X-ray diffraction (XRD) device (SmartLab device, manufactured by Rigaku Corporation). According to the X-ray analysis spectrum, crystallization peaks were detected at 2θ=19.9° and 23.6°, confirming that a crystalline solid electrolyte was obtained. When the ionic conductivity of the obtained crystalline solid electrolyte was measured according to the following (measurement of ionic conductivity), it was 5.55 × 10 -3 (S/cm), which indicates high ionic conductivity. It was confirmed that
(Measurement of ionic conductivity)
A circular pellet having a diameter of 10 mm (cross-sectional area S: 0.785 cm 2 ) and a height (L) of 0.1 to 0.3 cm was molded from the crystalline solid electrolyte to obtain a sample. Electrode terminals were taken from the top and bottom of the sample, and measurement was performed at 25° C. by the AC impedance method (frequency range: 5 MHz to 0.5 Hz, amplitude: 10 mV) to obtain a Cole-Cole plot. Near the right end of the arc observed in the high-frequency region, the real part Z' (Ω) at the point where -Z'' (Ω) is the minimum is the bulk resistance R (Ω) of the electrolyte, and according to the following formula, ion Conductivity σ (S/cm) was calculated.
