オリーブ油は、酸価が６．６ｍｇ／ｇ以下であって、過酸化物価が３０ｍｅｑ／ｍｇ以下であってよい。オリーブ油は、上述のように、品質等級等によって区別された複数の種類が流通している。吸収性物品１にオリーブ油を設ける際に、肌に対する刺激、オリーブ油の劣化、及び吸収性物品１を構成する構成部材の劣化等の悪影響を抑制しつつ適切なオリーブ油を選択する観点では、改善の余地があった。出願人が鋭意研究した結果、酸価が６．６ｍｇ／ｇ以下であって、過酸化物価が３０ｍｅｑ／ｍｇ以下のオリーブ油が適切であることがわかった。酸価が６．６ｍｇ／ｇ以下であって、過酸化物価が３０ｍｅｑ／ｍｇ以下のオリーブ油は、エクストラ・ヴァージンオリーブ油、ヴァージンオリーブ油、オーディナリー・ヴァージンオリーブ油を例示できる。酸価が６．６ｍｇ／ｇ以下のオリーブ油は、酸化が進んでなく、肌に対して酸化が進んでいないオリーブ油を接触させることができる。酸化された(酸価の高い)オリーブ油は、低級脂肪酸が増加し、皮膚を刺激するおそれがある。しかし、酸価を規定することで、消費者にとって安全なオリーブ油を配合の吸収性物品を提供できる。また、過酸化物価が３０ｍｅｑ／ｍｇ以下であることで、酸化していないオリーブ油を配合の吸収性物品を消費者に提供できる。オリーブ油の過酸化物価が３０ｍｅｑ／ｍｇ以下であるため、オリーブ油が自動化酸化し難く、ヒドロペルオキシドが生成され難い。ヒドロペルオキシドが生成されると、金属イオンによって分解され、ペルオキシラジカルを経て、再びヒドロペルオキシドが生成され、過酸化物価が更に高くなる。過酸化物価が高くなると、肌に対する刺激が生じる恐れがある。しかし、オリーブ油の過酸化物価が低い状態を維持し易く、肌に対する刺激を抑制した吸収性物品を提供できる。また、オリーブ油は元々酸化しにくい不飽和脂肪酸なので、配合時から低い過酸化物価のオリーブ油を使用することで、より肌に対する刺激を抑制した吸収性物品を提供できる。劣化していないオリーブを付与できるため、色や香りの劣化を抑制し、着用者が香り等の違和感を得難く、安心して使用し続けることができる。
