Abstract
Description
The techniques disclosed herein relate to the combustion chamber structure of an engine.
Patent Document 1 describes a compression ignition engine that burns a part of the air-fuel mixture by compression ignition. In this engine, the igniter ignites the air-fuel mixture. Flame propagation combustion starts, and the heat generated by the flame propagation combustion causes the unburned air-fuel mixture to self-ignite and burn.
The engine includes a water injection device that injects water into the combustion chamber. When the water injection device injects water into the combustion chamber, the combustion chamber is cooled. This engine can suppress the occurrence of abnormal combustion.
In addition to the above-mentioned purpose of suppressing abnormal combustion, the inventors of the present application increase the piston work of the engine and improve the torque by increasing the amount of working gas by injecting water (and steam) into the combustion chamber. We paid attention to the point of trying.
However, the inventors of the present application have noticed that when water is injected into the combustion chamber of an engine for the purpose of improving torque, the combustion stability is lowered. This is because a large amount of water must be injected into the combustion chamber in order to improve the torque of the engine. That is, when the amount of water injected into the combustion chamber increases, the concentration of water in the vicinity of the ignition device increases, and it becomes difficult for the ignition device to ignite the air-fuel mixture.
The technique disclosed herein makes it possible to ignite the air-fuel mixture even if water is injected into the combustion chamber.
As a result of studies by the inventors of the present application on the above-mentioned problems, it has been found that there is an injection form capable of suppressing the diffusion of water even if a large amount of water is injected into the combustion chamber. The technology disclosed herein has been completed based on the new knowledge of the inventors of the present application.
Specifically, the technique disclosed herein relates to the combustion chamber structure of an engine. The combustion chamber structure of this engine
A combustion chamber formed by a cylinder provided in the engine and a piston reciprocating in the cylinder.
An ignition device arranged on the ceiling of the combustion chamber and
A water injection device for injecting water into the combustion chamber through an injection hole facing the combustion chamber is provided.
The water injection device injects water when the combustion chamber is in the compression stroke.
The water injection device has at least a first injection hole and a second injection hole.
The axis of the first injection hole and the axis of the second injection hole are parallel or substantially parallel.
During the compression stroke, the flow of gas in the combustion chamber is weaker than during the intake stroke. According to the above configuration, the water injection device injects water during the compression stroke, so that the diffusion of water due to the flow of gas is suppressed. The water injection device may inject water vapor into the combustion chamber. In this specification, "water" includes water vapor, which is a gas. If steam is injected into the combustion chamber, water does not consume or suppresses the consumption of combustion heat. Therefore, injecting steam into the combustion chamber is advantageous for improving the thermal efficiency of the engine. ..
In the above configuration, the axis of the first injection hole and the axis of the second injection hole of the water injection device are parallel or substantially parallel. The angle between the axis of the first injection hole and the axis of the second injection hole may be 0 degrees ± 5 degrees as an example.
According to the study by the inventors of the present application, if the axis of the first injection hole and the axis of the second injection hole are parallel or substantially parallel, the jet flow of water injected by the water injection device is orthogonal to the injection direction. It becomes difficult to spread in the direction. Since the water injected from the first injection hole into the combustion chamber and the water injected from the second injection hole into the combustion chamber travel in the same or substantially the same direction, the momentum of the jet traveling in that direction increases. As the momentum of the jet increases, the force that entrains the fluid around the jet of water jetted by the water jet device into the jet becomes stronger. By increasing the entrainment force, the diffusion of water is suppressed.
Since the diffusion of the water injected into the combustion chamber is suppressed, the concentration of water in the vicinity of the ignition device is kept low. As a result, the ignition device can stably ignite the air-fuel mixture. The combustion stability of the engine is improved.
Then, by injecting water into the combustion chamber, the amount of working gas increases, so that the torque of the engine is improved. A vehicle equipped with the engine has improved fuel efficiency.
In the water injection device, the axes of all the injection holes including the first injection hole and the second injection hole may be parallel or substantially parallel to each other.
If the axes of all the injection holes of the water injection device are parallel or substantially parallel to each other, the momentum of the water injected from each injection hole is further increased. The diffusion of water can be further suppressed. Even if a large amount of water is injected into the combustion chamber, the ignition device can stably ignite the air-fuel mixture.
The distance between the centers of the injection holes may be 5 mm or less.
When the distance between the centers of the injection holes is short, the density of water in the jet jetted by the water injection device increases. When the water density is high, the entrainment force of the fluid around the jet becomes stronger due to the increase in momentum. According to the study by the inventors of the present application, it was found that the diffusion of water is effectively suppressed when the distance between the centers of the injection holes is 5 mm or less. That is, even if a large amount of water is injected into the combustion chamber, the ignition device can stably ignite the air-fuel mixture.
The piston has a cavity recessed from its top surface
The water injection device injects water toward the cavity at a timing when an extension line of the shaft of at least a part of the injection holes intersects the cavity.
The ignition device may be installed at a position outside the cavity with respect to a direction orthogonal to the axis of the cylinder.
When the water injection device injects water toward the cavity, the water fits in or almost fits in the region inside the cavity. It is possible to further suppress the diffusion of water in the combustion chamber.
In the present specification, the "region in the cavity" is defined as a region in the cavity recessed from the upper surface of the piston and a projection surface in which the opening of the cavity is projected onto the ceiling of the combustion chamber in the direction of the cylinder axis. It means the area up to the opening of the cavity and the combined area. In the present specification, the "region outside the cavity" means a region other than the above-mentioned "region inside the cavity".
The igniter is installed at a position outside the cavity. The concentration of water in the vicinity of the igniter is low because the water fits in or almost fits in the area within the cavity. The igniter is stable and can ignite the air-fuel mixture.
The cavity may have a bottom portion to which the water jetted by the water injection device hits, and a winding top for winding the water spreading along the bottom portion toward the water injection device.
The water wound up by the winding top of the cavity is attracted toward the jet by the entrainment force of the jet of water described above. That is, the rolled up water is suppressed from spreading to the region outside the cavity. As a result, the water fits in or almost fits in the area within the cavity. Diffusion of water in the combustion chamber is suppressed.
The water injection device is arranged on the ceiling portion, and at least a part of the injection surface of the water injection device through which the injection hole opens is a cavity in a direction orthogonal to the axis of the cylinder. It may be located at the position of.
At least a portion of the injection surface of the water injection device is located directly above the cavity in the axial direction of the cylinder. By doing so, the water injection device can inject water toward the cavity even if the position of the piston is changed. In other words, even if the timing at which the water injection device injects water changes, the water injection device injects water toward the cavity. The jetted water fits in or almost fits in the area within the cavity.
The combustion chamber structure of the engine may include a heating device that heats the water injected by the water injection device.
By doing so, the water vaporized by heating can be injected into the combustion chamber. It is suppressed that the water injected into the combustion chamber consumes the heat of combustion. This configuration is advantageous for improving the thermal efficiency of the engine.
The heating device has a heat exchanger attached to the exhaust pipe of the engine.
The heat exchanger may heat the water before being supplied to the water injection device by the heat of the exhaust gas of the engine.
By doing so, the exhaust heat of the engine can be recovered using water as a medium, and the vaporized water can be injected into the combustion chamber. The thermal efficiency of the engine is improved.
The water injection device is a temperature raising unit that is interposed between the water injection valve, the water injection valve, and the combustion chamber, and raises the temperature of the water injected by the water injection valve before supplying it to the combustion chamber. And have
The heating device may have a heat pipe that sends the heat of the exhaust gas of the engine to the temperature raising unit.
By doing so, the exhaust heat of the engine can be recovered and the vaporized water can be injected into the combustion chamber. The thermal efficiency of the engine is improved.
The water injection device may inject water within the period from the first half to the middle of the compression stroke.
As described above, if the temperature of the water injected into the combustion chamber is raised, the water can be vaporized without using the heat of combustion, which is advantageous for improving the thermal efficiency of the engine. During the period from the first half to the middle of the compression stroke, the pressure in the combustion chamber is relatively low. When the pressure in the combustion chamber is low, the boiling point temperature of water is lowered, so that vaporized water can be injected into the combustion chamber even if the temperature of water is low. That is, by injecting water during the period from the first half to the middle of the compression stroke, the amount of heat required for heating the water can be saved. This configuration is advantageous for improving the fuel efficiency of the automobile equipped with the engine.
The "first half" and "middle" of the compression stroke may be "first half" and "middle" when the compression stroke period is divided into three equal parts, "first half", "middle" and "late", respectively.
The amount of water injected by the water injection device is less when the load of the engine is low than when it is high.
When the amount of water injected is small, the water injection device may delay the start timing of injection as compared with the case where the amount of water injected is large.
If water is injected into the combustion chamber at an early stage of the compression stroke, the compression resistance of the piston increases. It is advantageous to improve the thermal efficiency of the engine when the timing of injecting water is late. When the injection amount of water is small and the injection period of water is short, the water injection device delays the start timing of injection. Since the compression resistance of the piston is reduced, it is advantageous for improving the thermal efficiency of the engine.
Further, as the amount of water injected increases, the period during which the water injection device injects water becomes longer. When the amount of water injected is large, the water injection device accelerates the start timing of water injection. The water injection device can finish the water injection by the middle of the compression stroke. As a result, as described above, the amount of heat required for heating water can be saved.
The combustion chamber structure of the engine includes a water supply device that supplies water to the water injection device.
The water supply device
A condenser that condenses water in the exhaust gas of the engine,
A water tank that stores the condensed water in the condenser, and
It may have a water pump that pressurizes the water in the water tank and supplies it to the water injection device.
By doing so, the occupant does not have to supply the water jetted into the combustion chamber to the water tank. Further, since the water pump pressurizes the water, the water can be injected into the high-pressure combustion chamber during the compression stroke. At least part of the jetted water is vaporized by boiling under reduced pressure. The amount of heat required for vaporization of water can be reduced.
The combustion chamber structure of the engine includes a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel.
The fuel injection valve may be arranged at an intake port communicating with the combustion chamber.
By doing so, a homogeneous air-fuel mixture can be formed in the combustion chamber. Even if water is injected into the combustion chamber, the ignition device can stably ignite the air-fuel mixture.
The engine may be a compression ignition gasoline engine in which at least a part of the air-fuel mixture is burned by compression ignition.
Even if water is present in the combustion chamber, the air-fuel mixture can be stably burned by compression ignition.
As described above, the combustion chamber structure of the engine can ignite the air-fuel mixture even if water is injected into the combustion chamber.
Hereinafter, embodiments of the combustion chamber structure of the engine will be described with reference to the drawings. The combustion chamber structure described here is an example.
FIG. 1 illustrates an engine 1 to which the combustion chamber structure disclosed herein is applied. The engine 1 is a 4-stroke reciprocating engine operated by the
The engine 1 includes a
A
The

An
An
An
As shown in FIG. 3, a
When the
(Structure that injects water into the combustion chamber)
The engine 1 includes a
In order to improve the torque of the engine 1, a large amount of water must be injected into the
Therefore, the
The
The
The
The
As illustrated in FIG. 3, the
As shown in FIG. 4, the
The
The solenoid valve has a relatively low heat resistant temperature. As described above, the reliability of the
As illustrated in FIG. 3, the
The
The tip of the
The
The plurality of
The
On the other hand, if the
The
The
The
The lower end surface of the
As illustrated in FIG. 6, in this configuration example, the
In the
A
In the illustrated example, the diameter of the circle of the
The
A
The
Although details will be described later, the
(Structure to suppress the diffusion of water sprayed into the combustion chamber)
As described above, when a large amount of water is injected into the
As a result of studies by the inventors of the present application, they have found the water injection form of the
As described above, the
According to the study by the inventors of the present application, if the angle difference between the axes of the injection holes 432 is within 5 degrees, the jet flow of water injected by the
Further, as shown in FIG. 6, the center-to-center distance P of the plurality of injection holes 432 is relatively short. When the distance between the centers P is short, the density of water injected by the
As shown in FIG. 3, the
Since the
Then, when the entrainment force of the jet of water injected by the
The
Here, FIG. 7 is a diagram comparing Comparative Example 71 in which the density of the injection holes 432 of the
In Comparative Example 71, the center-to-center distance P of the
On the other hand, in Example 72, the center-to-center distance P of the
In this way, the
Here, as shown by the alternate long and short dash line in FIG. 3, at least a part of the
When at least a part of the
When the direction of the axis of the
Then, the diffusion of water can also be suppressed by injecting water during the compression stroke by the
FIG. 8 illustrates the simulation result of the water concentration distribution in the combustion chamber structure of the example. FIG. 8 shows the change in the water concentration distribution as the crank angle progresses. P81 of FIG. 8 shows the water concentration distribution at 60 ° bTDC (before Top Dead Center) immediately after the
As shown on P81, immediately after the water injection is completed, the concentration of water in the region on the rear side of the engine 1 including the

(Configuration of engine control device)
FIG. 10 illustrates the configuration of the control device of the engine 1. The control device of the engine 1 includes an
Various sensors SW1 to SW3 are connected to the
The air flow sensor SW1 is arranged in the
The
The
FIG. 11 illustrates a
More specifically, the
As described above, the
The
The
Here, the boundary between the
FIG. 12 illustrates the timing of fuel injection, water injection, and ignition under the control of the
The
At the end of the intake stroke and the subsequent compression stroke, the
The first half, middle, and second half of the compression stroke are defined as "first half," "middle," and "second half," when the compression stroke period is divided into three equal parts, "first half," "middle," and "late." May be good. The same applies to the first half, middle, and second half of the inspiratory stroke described below.
When the load of the engine 1 is high, the
When the engine 1 has a medium load (P122), the fuel injection amount is smaller than that when the engine 1 has a high load. The fuel injection period of the
At the end of the intake stroke and the subsequent compression stroke, the
When the engine 1 has a medium load, the
When the engine 1 has a low load (P123), the fuel injection amount is smaller than that at the medium load. The fuel injection period of the
At the end of the intake stroke and the subsequent compression stroke, the
When the engine 1 has a low load, the
