Abstract
Description
The present invention is a composition for a thick film resistor and a paste for a thick film resistor used for forming a thick film resistor in a resistance component such as a chip resistor or a hybrid IC, and formed by using these. Regarding thick film resistors.
Conventionally, as a resistance component among electronic components, there are a thick film resistor formed by using a resistance paste and a thin film resistor formed by sputtering of a film forming material. Of these, thick film resistors are widely used as resistance components such as chip resistors and hybrid ICs because their manufacturing equipment is inexpensive and their productivity is high.
The thick film resistor is formed by printing a thick film resistor paste on a ceramic substrate and firing it. This thick film resistor paste is substantially composed of a conductive powder, glass frit, and an organic vehicle for forming these into a paste suitable for printing.
As the conductive powder, ruthenium (Ru) compounds such as ruthenium dioxide (RuO 2 ) and pyrochlore-type ruthenium oxides (Pb 2 Ru 2 O 7-X , Bi 2 Ru 2 O 7 ) are generally used. ing. The reason why the ruthenium compound is used as the conductive powder is mainly because it has a property that the resistance value changes gently with respect to the change in its concentration.
As the glass frit, borosilicate containing a large amount of lead such as lead borosilicate glass (PbO-SiO 2- B 2 O 3 ) and lead aluminoborosilicate glass (PbO-SiO 2- B 2 O 3- Al 2 O 3 ) Lead acid acid glass is used. The reason why lead borosilicate glass is used for the glass frit is that it has good wettability with ruthenium oxide, its coefficient of thermal expansion is close to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrate, and it is suitable for viscosity during firing. Because.
In these thick film resistor pastes, various additives are contained in order to improve the characteristics of the thick film resistor after film formation. For example, conventional additives used to adjust the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and reduce current noise include titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) or niobium oxide (Nb 2 O 5 ). Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 61-206201 describes 0.025 parts by weight to 6.0 parts by weight of Ti as Ti per 100 parts by weight of solid content in the composition of conductive powder, glass powder containing PbO, and titanium oxide. The composition for thick film resistors that has been added is disclosed. Further, Japanese Patent Publication No. Sho 63-035081, glass containing RuO 2, PbO, and Nb 2 O 5 of finely divided inorganic powder is dispersed in an inert liquid vehicle, the addition amount of Nb 2 O 5 A composition for a thick film resistor is disclosed in which the amount is 0.1% by weight to 0.8% by weight.
Lead is contained in the glass powder constituting these thick film resistor compositions. Since the use of such a paste for a thick film resistor containing harmful lead is not desirable from the viewpoint of environmental problems, in recent years, there has been a strong demand for the practical application of a paste for a thick film resistor containing no lead. For this reason, research and development of lead-free thick film resistor paste is currently underway, and a lead-free glass frit is proposed in the thick film resistor composition used for the thick film resistor paste. Has been made.
In the composition for thick film resistors containing titanium oxide or niobium oxide as an additive, titanium oxide or niobium oxide is added as a powder in the composition for thick film resistors, or for thick film resistors. It is pre-added in the glass powder constituting the composition. However, when a lead-free thick film resistor is produced by using titanium oxide or niobium oxide as an additive, there is a problem that current noise becomes large when the resistance value is 10 kΩ or more.
An object of the present invention is that when a thick film resistor substantially free of lead is produced, it is possible to form a resistor having a high resistance value, a small current noise, and good electrical characteristics. The composition for a thick film resistor, the paste for a thick film resistor, and the thick film resistor of the present invention do not contain harmful lead, have a high resistance value, and have a small current noise, and have good electricity. By substituting the conventional thick film resistor paste containing lead, it is possible to provide resistance parts such as chip resistors and hybrid ICs that do not have the problem of environmental pollution. The value is extremely high.
Hereinafter, the composition for a thick film resistor, the thick film resistor paste, and the thick film resistor of the present invention will be described in detail.
(1) Composition for thick film resistor The composition for thick film resistor of the present invention is characterized by containing a conductive powder, a glass frit, and forsterite as main components.
[Conductive powder]
The conductive powder constituting the thick film resistor composition of the present invention is preferably a ruthenium compound. Examples of the ruthenium compound include ruthenium dioxide (RuO 2 ), an alkaline earth metal ruthenate, that is, calcium ruthenate (CaRuO 3 ), strontium ruthenate (SrRuO 3 ), and barium ruthenate (BaRuO 3 ). The composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention preferably contains at least one selected from these as a ruthenium compound. These conductive powders can be obtained by a known production method.
Calcium ruthenate, strontium ruthenate, or barium ruthenate is obtained by a dry method in which ruthenium dioxide powder is mechanically mixed with calcium, strontium, or a hydroxide or carbonate of barium, heat-treated, and then pulverized. be able to. Further, in order to obtain these powders having a small particle size and being uniform, a solution containing ruthenium chloride and calcium chloride, strontium chloride, or barium chloride is added to an alkaline aqueous solution to cause precipitation, and the precipitate thereof. Is washed, dried, and then roasted at a temperature of about 600 ° C. or higher and 900 ° C. or lower.
The average particle size of the conductive powder by the BET method is preferably 1.0 μm or less, and more preferably 0.2 μm or less. As a result, in the thick film resistor obtained by firing, the conductive path becomes fine, and it is possible to appropriately suppress the variation in the resistance value and the magnitude of the current noise.
In the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention, the content of the conductive powder is appropriately adjusted according to a desired resistance value in the obtained thick film resistor, the type and particle size of the conductive powder and the glass frit. To. For example, when a high resistance resistor having an area resistance value of 5 kΩ or more is obtained, the content of the conductive powder is usually 5% by mass or more and 30% by mass or less.
[Glass frit]
The glass frit constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention is characterized in that it contains substantially no lead.
Here, "substantially free of lead" means that the lead content in the glass frit is less than or equal to the regulation value (0.1% by mass) of the RoHS Directive, or the lead content is usually measured. It means that it is below the detection limit in the device.
The other glass components in the glass frit constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention are basically not limited. As glass frit, aluminoborosilicate alkaline earth zinc glass (SiO 2- B 2 O 3- RO-ZnO-Al 2 O 3 : R is at least one selected from Ca, Sr, and Ba), borosilicate glass. (SiO 2 −B 2 O 3 ), aluminoborosilicate glass (SiO 2 −B 2 O 3 − Al 2 O 3 ), or alkaline earth borosilicate (SiO 2 −B 2 O 3 −RO: R is Ca , Sr, and Ba) can be preferably used.
The average particle size of the glass frit constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention is preferably 5 μm or less in D50 (median diameter) measured by laser diffraction type particle size distribution measurement, and is in the range of 1 μm or more and 3 μm or less. More preferably. If the particle size of the glass frit is fine, the conductive path in the thick film resistor can be made fine, and thus variation in the resistance value of the thick film resistor and current noise can be suppressed. In order to obtain a glass frit having a desired average particle size, the melted and cooled glass frit may be pulverized by using a known pulverization method such as a ball mill or a jet mill.
In the glass frit constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention, the softening point of the glass is preferably in the range of 550 ° C or higher and 750 ° C or lower, and more preferably in the range of 600 ° C or higher and 700 ° C or lower. preferable. If the softening point of the glass is lower than 550 ° C., the glass frit may melt too much when the thick film resistor paste is fired to form the resistor, and the pattern of the resistor may be broken. If the softening point of the glass is higher than 750 ° C., the glass frit becomes difficult to melt and the compatibility (wetting) with the conductive powder becomes poor, so that the current noise of the obtained thick film resistor increases.
Here, the softening point is the differential thermal curve on the lowest temperature side of the obtained differential thermal curve obtained by heating and heating the glass at 5 ° C./min or more and 20 ° C./min or less in the air by a differential thermal analysis method. It is the temperature of the peak at which the next differential thermal curve on the higher temperature side than the temperature at which the decrease occurs decreases.
In the glass frit constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention, the coefficient of thermal expansion of the glass is preferably in the range of 40 × 10-7 / K or more and 100 × 10-7 / K or less, and 50 × More preferably, it is in the range of 10-7 / K or more and 90 × 10-7 / K or less. For example, when an alumina substrate is used, the thermal expansion coefficient of the thick film resistor obtained by using a glass frit made of glass having a coefficient of thermal expansion in this range becomes a value close to the coefficient of thermal expansion of the alumina substrate. , The problem of tensile stress disappears. The coefficient of thermal expansion can be measured by a thermomechanical analyzer (TMA) by forming a glass frit into a rod shape.
The softening point and the coefficient of thermal expansion of the glass frit described above can be controlled by examining the composition of the glass frit.
The content of the glass frit in the composition for the thick film resistor is also appropriately adjusted according to the desired resistance value in the obtained thick film resistor, the type and the particle size of the conductive powder and the glass frit. For example, when a high resistance resistor having an area resistance value of 5 kΩ or more is obtained, the glass frit content is usually 70% by mass or more and 95% by mass or less, depending on the content of the conductive powder.
[Forsterite]
The composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention is characterized by containing forsterite. Forsterite is represented by a composition formula of 2 MgO · SiO 2 (or Mg 2 SO 4 ), and contains MgO and SiO 2 in a molar ratio of 2: 1. Forsterite is characterized by excellent insulating properties even in a high temperature environment, excellent high frequency characteristics, and a large coefficient of thermal expansion, and has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 97 × 10-7 / K.
Forsterite exerts a function of increasing the resistance value of the thick film resistor and reducing current noise by its addition. Forsterite has a function of reducing agglutination of conductive particles collected between glass particles due to melting and flow of glass that occur in the firing process. It is considered that forsterite is easily wetted with glass and has a large coefficient of thermal expansion, which enhances this function.
The BET average particle size of the forsterite powder constituting the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention is preferably 2 μm or less, and more preferably 1 μm or less.
The content of forsterite in the composition for a thick film resistor is preferably 3.0% by mass or more and 15.0% by mass or less, and preferably 4.0% by mass or more and 12.0% by mass or less. When the content of forsterite is 3.0% by mass or more, the effect of reducing current noise can be sufficiently exhibited. Further, when the content of forsterite is 15.0% by mass or less, the current noise can be reduced without making the resistance value too high.
[Arbitrary ingredients]
In addition to the conductive powder, glass frit, and forsterite, other additives can be added to the composition for a thick film resistor of the present invention. For example, for the thick film resistor of the present invention for the purpose of adjusting electrical characteristics such as area resistance value and temperature coefficient of resistance, adjusting expansion coefficient, improving withstand voltage, and other modifications of the thick film resistor. The composition can appropriately contain inorganic components such as manganese dioxide, copper oxide, niobium pentoxide, tin oxide, tantalum oxide, and titanium oxide.
The content of these inorganic components is generally in the range of 0.05% by mass or more and 10% by mass or less with respect to the total mass of the conductive powder and the glass frit.

The organic vehicle constituting the thick film resistor paste is composed of at least a resin and a solvent.
Examples of the resin that can be used as an organic vehicle include ethyl cellulose resin, butyral resin (polyvinyl butyral), and acrylic resin. These resins are preferably resins that decompose at a temperature before the glass softens. More preferably, a resin that decomposes at a temperature of 500 ° C. or lower is preferable.
As the solvent for dissolving the resin, tarpineol, butyl carbitol, butyl carbitol acetate and the like can be used.
The blending ratio of the resin and the solvent of the organic vehicle prepared by these resins and the solvent can be appropriately adjusted according to the desired viscosity and application.
Further, a plasticizer having a high boiling point can be further added from the viewpoint of controlling the drying rate of the paste in consideration of the continuous printability required for the thick film resistor paste. The blending ratio of the plasticizer in this case can also be appropriately adjusted according to the desired drying rate.
The ratio of the organic vehicle to the thick film resistor paste is not particularly limited, but it is generally 30% by mass or more and 50% by mass or less with respect to the mass of the thick film resistor paste.

For example, a dispersant can be included from the viewpoint of preventing agglomeration of conductive powder and other inorganic components. Further, from the viewpoint of coating workability, a rheology control agent can be contained.

[How to prepare paste for thick film resistors]
A known technique may be used for preparing the paste for a thick film resistor, and for example, a three-roll mill, a ball mill, or the like can be used.
In the thick film resistor paste, it is desirable to disaggregate the conductive powder, glass frit, forsterite, and other inorganic components and disperse them in the organic vehicle.

The conductive component comprises at least one selected from ruthenium compounds, namely ruthenium dioxide, calcium ruthenate, strontium ruthenate, and barium ruthenium. The glass component is characterized by being substantially free of lead. That is, the thick film resistor of the present invention is formed by using the thick film resistor paste of the present invention, and is composed of a fired body containing the composition for the thick film resistor of the present invention.
Therefore, the conductive component has the same composition as the conductive powder constituting the composition for the thick film resistor of the present invention, and the glass component has the same composition as the glass frit constituting the composition for the thick film resistor of the present invention. Further, the content of forsterite is also 3.0% by mass or more and 15.0% by mass or less with respect to the total mass of the conductive component and the glass component, as in the composition for thick film resistors of the present invention. First, a coating step of applying the thick film resistor paste to the substrate is performed. Apply by the means of.
Next, a firing step of firing the substrate coated with the thick film resistor paste is performed to produce a thick film resistor.
[Discussion]
From the electrical characteristics of the thick film resistors produced in the examples and comparative examples of the present invention, the thick film resistors using forsterite as an additive (Examples 1 to 3) are thick films containing no additive. In comparison with resistors (Comparative Examples 1 to 3) and thick film resistors (Comparative Examples 4 and 5) in which the amount of forsterite added is outside the range of the present invention, current noise is generated according to the desired area resistance value. It is small enough and it is understood that it is excellent as a thick film resistor.
