Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a rosin-modified polyester resin for active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink, an active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink, and a printed matter.
The lithographic printing ink is an ink having a relatively high viscosity of 5 to 100 Pa · s. In the lithographic printing machine mechanism, ink is supplied from the ink jar of the printing machine to the image area of the plate surface via multiple rollers, and in lithographic printing using dampening water, dampening water is supplied to the non-image area. By doing so, in lithographic printing without dampening water, the non-image area is made of a silicon layer, and the ink is repelled to form an image.
In particular, in lithographic printing using dampening water, the emulsification balance between the ink and the fountain solution is important, and an ink having appropriate emulsification characteristics and suitable for high-speed printing is required. If the amount of emulsification of the ink is too high, the ink will easily adhere to the non-image areas and stains will occur. If the amount of emulsification is small, dampening water will be discharged to the ink surface during printing with a small number of patterns. Ink transfer and ink transfer to paper are deteriorated, and it becomes difficult to print stably.
Further, in recent years, there has been an increasing demand for labor saving, labor saving, automation, and speeding up at the time of printing, and in particular, the printing speed is getting faster and faster. An ink that can stably obtain high-quality printed matter for a long time without trouble under various printing conditions is desired, and ink makers have made various improvements.
On the other hand, the active energy ray-curable ink contains an unsaturated compound having active energy ray curability such as an acrylic ester compound as a constituent component, and is instantly cured by irradiation with active energy rays, and the above unsaturated compound 3 A tough film is formed by dimensional cross-linking. Since it cures instantly, post-processing can be performed immediately after printing, so active energy rays are used in packaging package printing and foam printing in the commercial field, where a strong film is required to improve productivity and protect the design. Curable inks are preferably used.
Generally, the active energy ray-curable ink is composed of a binder resin, an active energy ray-curable compound such as an acrylic ester compound, a pigment, a radical polymerization initiator, and various additives.
Further, in the active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink, high curability is required due to the demand for energy saving and high printing speed. In order to improve the curability, a method of using a radical polymerization initiator having high photosensitivity, a method of increasing the amount of the radical polymerization initiator blended, a method of using an active energy ray-curable compound having a large number of functional groups, and a binder resin. A method of imparting an active energy ray-curable functional group or the like is effective, and a method of using a radical polymerization initiator having particularly high photosensitivity or a method of increasing the amount of the radical polymerization initiator blended is particularly effective. However, on the other hand, since there is a concern about the influence of the radical polymerization initiator on the human body, the types and amounts of the radical polymerization initiators that can be used are being limited, and it is difficult for the radical polymerization initiators to exhibit high curability.
It is also effective to impart an active energy ray-curable functional group to the binder resin in order to enhance the curability. However, since the binder resin plays a role of imparting the printability of the ink, the binder resin maintains the printability. It is difficult to impart an active energy ray-curable functional group to the resin.
For this reason, it is effective to use an active energy ray-curable compound having a large number of functional groups in order to improve curability, but in general, a polyfunctional active energy ray-curable compound has a large molecular weight. High viscosity. Further, the compatibility with the binder resin is often not good, and the viscosity of the mixture of the binder resin and the active energy ray-curable compound increases remarkably, which causes a problem that the printability deteriorates when used in ink. It ends up.
Dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate, dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate, and the like are used as the polyfunctional active energy ray-curable compound for improving the curability, and these also tend to cause a significant increase in viscosity as described above. Therefore, it is important to select the binder resin when using it.
The active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink is required to have printability such as emulsification suitability and background stain resistance in addition to curability. It is effective to use a binder resin to develop printability, and in order to achieve both printability and curability, unsaturated polyester resin, epoxy acrylate resin, urethane acrylate resin, polyester acrylate resin, and rosin-modified polyester resin. Etc. have been considered. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a resin obtained by modifying a saturated polyester with an isocyanate group-containing urethane acrylate. However, since these resins have a highly linear structure, it is difficult to obtain sufficient ink viscoelasticity, and printability such as misting property and stain resistance is easily impaired. Patent Document 2 discloses a resin obtained by reacting a polyester compound having an excess of hydroxyl groups containing a rosin derivative polyvalent carboxylic acid as an essential component with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, but the rosin derivative polyvalent carboxylic acid can be sufficiently specified. Rather, when the residual amount of the conjugated double bond is large, curing inhibition is likely to occur, and problems such as insufficient curability and printing film strength are likely to occur. Patent Document 3 discloses a polyester resin containing a polyvalent carboxylic acid obtained by addition reaction of a resin acid with α and β-unsaturated carboxylic acid, but from the viewpoint of compatibility with dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate. Since there is a limit to the amount that can be blended in the ink, deterioration of fluidity and gloss has been a problem.
An object of the present invention is to provide an active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink having both printability and print film strength, and a printed matter thereof.
As a result of diligent studies to solve the above problems, a rosin-modified polyester resin containing a specific alkylene glycol as a constituent component and having a specific n-hexane tolerance value was used as a binder resin for active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink. By doing so, it was found that the compatibility with the polyfunctional active energy ray-curable compound was improved, and the fluidity and curability of the ink could be compatible with each other, and the present invention was completed.

These can be used alone or in combination of two or more.
The n-hexane tolerance value of the rosin-modified polyester resin of the present invention is preferably 2.00 or less. The n-hexane tolerance value is an index for comparing the polarity of the resin, and a large n-hexane tolerance value indicates that the resin is more hydrophobic, and a small n-hexane tolerance value indicates that the resin is more hydrophilic. When the n-hexane tolerance value is 2.00 or less, the compatibility with dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate and / or dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate is good. The n-hexane tolerance value of the rosin-modified polyester resin of the present invention is preferably 0.50 to 2.00, more preferably 0.70 to 1.90. When the n-hexane tolerance value is 0.5 or more, overemulsification is sufficiently suppressed and the printability is particularly good.
A method for measuring the n-hexane tolerance value will be described. First, a stirrer chip is placed in an Erlenmeyer flask, and about 3 g of resin and twice the mass of tetrahydrofuran (6.00 g of tetrahydrofuran for 3.00 g of resin) are added thereto. Next, the resin is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran by stirring with a stirrer to obtain a resin solution. Then, while stirring the obtained resin solution, n-hexane is added dropwise until the resin solution becomes turbid. The n-hexane tolerance value is calculated from the dropped n-hexane mass according to the following formula.
n-Hexane tolerance value = Mass of dropped n-hexane (g) ÷ Mass of resin (g)
For example, if the amount of n-hexane added dropwise is 3.60 g with respect to 3.00 g of resin, the n-hexane tolerance value is 1.20. If the mass of tetrahydrofuran to be dissolved is not twice the mass of the resin, the n-hexane tolerance value will change significantly, so the allowable error of the mass of tetrahydrofuran to be dissolved should be within ± 1%. Within this range, fluctuations in tetrahydrofuran mass do not affect the n-hexane tolerance value.
The method for obtaining the rosin-modified polyester resin of the present invention is not particularly limited, and can be obtained by a general synthetic method. As a method for obtaining the rosin-modified polyester resin of the present invention, for example, the resin acid (A) is first reacted with an α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or an acid anhydride thereof (B), and then a polyalkylene glycol-based compound ( It can be obtained by reacting with C). The reaction between the resin acid (A) and the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or its acid anhydride (B) is a conjugated double bond in the resin acid and a double in the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid. The deal alder addition reaction with the bond, followed by the reaction with the polyalkylene glycol compound (C) is an esterification reaction between the carboxyl group and the hydroxyl group. The polyol (D), monobasic acid (E), other polybasic acid or acid anhydride thereof (F) described above can also be incorporated into the rosin-modified polyester resin by an esterification reaction.
Either the Diels-Alder addition reaction or the esterification reaction may be carried out first, or the reaction may proceed at the same time. In addition, the order in which each component is added may be freely selected as appropriate.
Since the addition reaction product of the resin acid (A) and the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or its acid anhydride (B) is a polyvalent carboxylic acid compound, it is esterified with the polyalkylene glycol compound (C). The reaction enables polymerization. Furthermore, the conjugated double bond in the resin acid, which is a curing inhibitory component when irradiated with active energy rays, disappears due to the addition reaction, and the introduction of a polycyclic structure derived from the resin acid results in printability such as emulsification characteristics, high-speed printability, and curability. It is possible to achieve both film strength and film strength.
The conditions for the Diels-Alder reaction are not particularly limited and can be carried out according to a conventional method. The reaction temperature is preferably in the range of 80 ° C. to 200 ° C., but can be determined in consideration of the boiling point and reactivity of the compound used. It may be carried out in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor, for example, hydroquinone, p-methoxyphenol, methylhydroquinone, methoxyhydroquinone, 2,6-di-t-butylphenol, 2,6-di-t-butyl-4-. Examples thereof include hydroxytoluene, t-butylcatechol, 4-methoxy-1-naphthol, phenothiazine and the like.
The conditions for the esterification reaction are not particularly limited and can be carried out according to a conventional method. The reaction temperature is preferably in the range of 180 ° C. to 300 ° C., but can be determined in consideration of the boiling point and reactivity of the compound used. In addition, a catalyst can be used if necessary. Examples of the catalyst include organic sulfonic acids such as benzenesulfonic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, p-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, methanesulfonic acid and ethanesulfonic acid, mineral acids such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, trifluoromethylsulfate and trifluoromethylacetic acid. May be good. When blended at the same time, the reaction temperature may be adjusted so that the Diels-Alder addition reaction between the resin acid (A) and the α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or its acid anhydride (B) first occurs.

When the active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink of the present invention uses ultraviolet rays, it is preferable to add a photopolymerization initiator. The photopolymerization initiator can be roughly classified into two types: one in which a bond is cleaved in a molecule by light to generate an active species, and the other in which a hydrogen abstraction reaction occurs between molecules to produce an active species. When an electron beam or the like is used as the active energy ray, a photopolymerization initiator is not required.

If it is less than 0.01% by mass, it is difficult to sufficiently perform the curing reaction, and if it exceeds 15% by mass, a thermal polymerization reaction is likely to occur and the stability of the ink is likely to be impaired, which is not preferable.
In addition, a polymerization inhibitor can be added to the active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink of the present invention.

The atmosphere for irradiating the active energy rays is preferably an atmosphere in which an inert gas such as nitrogen gas is substituted, but there is no problem if the atmosphere is irradiated without any problem in curability. The varnish fluidity was good except for varnish B1, varnish B2 and varnish B6. It is considered that this is because the n-hexane tolerance values of the resin B1, the resin B2 and the resin B6 are inappropriate, and therefore the compatibility between the resin and the dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate and / or the dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate is poor. ..
The physical properties of the cured film and printability of the lithographic printing inks obtained in Examples and Comparative Examples were evaluated by the following methods.

<Evaluation of liquidity>
The lithographic printing inks A1 to A16 and B1 to B6 were dropped on an inclined plate tilted at 60 °, and the length of the ink flowing in 10 minutes was measured and evaluated in 4 steps. The evaluation criteria are shown below.
⊚: 30 mm or more 〇: 20 mm or more, 30 mm or less Δ: 10 mm or more, 20 mm or less ×: 10 mm or less The usable level is 〇 or more.
The stain resistance was particularly good in Examples 1-3, 7-10, 12-16. This is because the active energy ray-curable lithographic printing ink has a polarity suitable for printing by using a rosin-modified polyester resin obtained from a raw material in an appropriate blending amount and having an appropriate n-hexane tolerance value. Conceivable.
As shown in Table 4, the curability other than Comparative Examples 3 and 4 was good. However, in Comparative Example 3, α, β-unsaturated carboxylic acid or an acid anhydride (B) thereof was not blended in the resin composition, and a Diels-Alder reaction skeleton with the resin acid (A) was not formed. From this, it is considered that the residual amount of the conjugated double bond was large, which caused hardening inhibition and caused hardening failure. In Comparative Example 4, it is considered that the resin acid (A) was not blended in the resin composition, the rigidity of the resin was inferior, and curing failure occurred.
In terms of MEK resistance and abrasion resistance, Examples 1 to 6 and 9 to 14 in which the molecular weight of the resin was large and the amount of dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate and / or dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate in the ink was large were particularly good. It is considered that this is because the film strength is increased by increasing the molecular weight and increasing the amount of dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate and / or dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate.
The fluidity was good except for Comparative Examples 1, 2, 5 and 6. In Comparative Examples 1, 2 and 6, since the n-hexane tolerance value of the resin was inappropriate, the compatibility between the resin and dipentaerythritol pentaacrylate and / or dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate was poor, and the fluidity in varnish and ink was poor. Is thought to have deteriorated. Further, in Comparative Example 5, since the n-hexane tolerance value of the resin was appropriate, the fluidity of the varnish was good, but the wettability between the resin and the pigment was poor, so that the fluidity of the ink was poor. It is thought that it has deteriorated.
