Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a multi-antenna communication device and a distortion compensation method.
In recent years, from the viewpoints of downsizing of transmission devices, reduction of operating costs, environmental problems, and the like, there is an increasing need for power amplifiers that operate with high efficiency. When operating the power amplifier with high efficiency, in a region where the input power is relatively large, the input power is not linearly amplified and non-linear distortion occurs. Therefore, an amplification method may be used in which digital predistortion is used in combination to give a transmission signal a distortion having an inverse characteristic of the nonlinear distortion generated in the power amplifier in advance. The distortion that is added to the transmission signal in advance in digital predistortion is also called a distortion compensation coefficient, and is read from a look-up table or calculated using a series. Then, the distortion compensation coefficient is appropriately updated so as to sufficiently compensate for the non-linear distortion that varies depending on the environment such as temperature.
On the other hand, in order to reduce the interference of the transmission signal to other than the destination and improve the communication system capacity, beamforming for forming a directional beam may be performed. When beamforming is performed, a phase difference is set in the signals transmitted from the plurality of antenna elements that form the array antenna. Each of the plurality of antenna elements is provided with, for example, a phase shifter to control the phase of the signal, and the phase-controlled signal is amplified by the power amplifier corresponding to each antenna element.
In the 5th generation mobile communication (5G), use of hybrid beamforming is under study to realize low power consumption and high throughput. In hybrid beamforming, a plurality of antenna elements forming an array antenna are divided into subarrays, and beamforming is performed by an analog phased array antenna in each subarray. As a result, the beams formed by the sub-arrays can be directed in different directions, and the same number of D/A (Digital/Analog) converters and up-converters as the number of sub-arrays may be provided. It is possible to reduce power consumption and component cost.
However, when performing digital predistortion in the array antenna configuration, there is a problem that the circuit scale of the feedback system increases. Specifically, in an array antenna configuration including a plurality of antenna elements, the signal output from the power amplifier for each antenna element may be fed back to update the distortion compensation coefficient for each antenna element. Therefore, an individual feedback circuit including an A/D (Analog/Digital) converter corresponding to each antenna element is provided, and the circuit scale of the feedback system increases.
In hybrid beamforming, it is possible to apply digital predistortion to each sub-array and combine the outputs from the power amplifiers for each sub-array for feedback. However, even in such a case, a feedback circuit is provided for each sub-array, and the increase in circuit scale cannot be sufficiently solved.
As described above, when the circuit scale of the feedback system is increased, the size of the entire device is increased and power consumption is increased. In particular, recently, not only arranging a plurality of antenna elements in a straight line but also two-dimensionally arranging them in a plane has been studied, and the number of antenna elements tends to increase. Therefore, as the number of antenna elements increases, the circuit scale of the feedback system may increase more and more.
The disclosed technique has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide a multi-antenna communication device and a distortion compensation method that can suppress an increase in the circuit scale of a feedback system.
In one aspect, the multi-antenna communication device disclosed in the present application is provided corresponding to a plurality of antenna element groups each including one or more antenna elements, and distorts a transmission signal transmitted from the antenna elements of each antenna element group. A plurality of distortion compensating units for compensating, a plurality of power amplifiers for amplifying the transmission signals of the respective antenna elements, which are distortion-compensated by the plurality of distortion compensating units, and a signal output from the plurality of power amplifiers is combined and analog A combining unit for generating a combined feedback signal; an A/D (Analog/Digital) conversion of the analog combined feedback signal generated by the combining unit for generating a digital combined feedback signal; An order corresponding to a power amplifier for each antenna element group, using a digital combined feedback signal output from the D converter and a replica obtained by combining a plurality of transmission signals distortion-compensated by the plurality of distortion compensators. And a conversion unit that converts the forward characteristic of each antenna element group calculated by the calculation unit into an inverse characteristic, wherein the plurality of distortion compensation units are converted by the conversion unit. By using the obtained inverse characteristic for each antenna element group, the transmission signal of each antenna element group is distortion-compensated.
According to one aspect of the multi-antenna communication device and the distortion compensation method disclosed in the present application, it is possible to suppress an increase in the circuit scale of the feedback system.
Hereinafter, embodiments of a multi-antenna communication device and a distortion compensation method disclosed in the present application will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. The present invention is not limited to this embodiment.
図1に示す通信システムにおいては、BBU(BaseBand Unit)10に複数のRRH(Remote Radio Head)100が接続されており、RRH100とUE(User Equipment)20とが無線通信する。
(Embodiment 1)
FIG. 1 is a diagram showing an example of a communication system according to the first embodiment. In the communication system shown in FIG. 1, a plurality of RRHs (Remote Radio Heads) 100 are connected to a BBU (BaseBand Unit) 10, and the
The BBU 10 is a device that executes baseband processing on a signal, and for example, encodes information to generate a transmission baseband signal and transmits it to the
The
Although one UE 20 is illustrated in FIG. 1, the RRH 100 has a plurality of sub-arrays and forms a beam for each of the plurality of

The communication I/
プロセッサ120は、例えばCPU(Central Processing Unit)、FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)又はDSP(Digital Signal Processor)などを備え、RRH100の全体を統括制御する。
The
The
Further, in the
The
The forward
The
メモリ130は、例えばRAM(Random Access Memory)又はROM(Read Only Memory)などを備え、プロセッサ120によって処理が実行される際に、種々の情報を記憶する。
The
The D/
The
The combining
A/D変換部170は、合成FB信号をA/D変換する。
The A/
FIG. 3 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the forward
The
The combining
The
Further, in the forward
The multiplying
The

The baseband signal transmitted from the BBU 10 is received by the communication I/
The baseband signals x1 and x2 and the predistortion signals u1 and u2 of each sub-array are also output to the forward
The pre-distortion signals u1 and u2 for each sub-array are D/A converted by the D/
The transmission signal transmitted from each antenna element is fed back by the combining
However, in Expression (2), N represents the number of antenna elements belonging to the sub-array, j represents an imaginary unit, and φ 1,k and φ 2,k represent the phase shift of the transmission signal of the k-th antenna element in the sub-array.
However, in Expression (4), μ 1 and μ 2 represent step size parameters of the LMS algorithm, and u1 * and u2 * represent complex conjugates of u1 and u2, respectively. The calculation of the forward characteristic LUT 1 (i 1 ) and LUT 2 (i 2 ) is independently performed for each sub-array as in the above equation (4). This is because the cross-correlation between the transmission signals x1 and x2 of the sub-array A and the sub-array B is usually low, and it can be considered that the transmission signals x1 and x2 are orthogonal to each other.
When the forward characteristic LUT 1 (i 1 ) and LUT 2 (i 2 ) that reduce the error signal e are calculated in this way, these forward characteristic LUT 1 (i 1 ) and LUT 2 (i 2 ) are respectively calculated. It is stored in the forward
Then, the subsequent transmission signals x1 and x2 are subjected to distortion compensation using the updated distortion compensation coefficient (step S109). Therefore, the reciprocal of the forward characteristic with a small error from the forward characteristic of the power amplifier is used as the distortion compensation coefficient, so that accurate distortion compensation processing can be performed.
As described above, according to the present embodiment, when collectively performing distortion compensation processing for each sub-array, the transmission signals of all antenna elements are combined regardless of the sub-array to generate a combined FB signal, and the combined FB signal is generated. The FB signal is fed back to estimate the forward characteristic of the power amplifier for each sub-array. Then, the reciprocal of the estimated forward characteristic is calculated, and the calculated reciprocal is used as the distortion compensation coefficient for each sub-array. Therefore, in the feedback system for updating the distortion compensation coefficient, it is sufficient to provide one set of analog circuits for the combined FB signal, so that it is possible to suppress an increase in the circuit scale of the feedback system.
(Embodiment 2)
The feature of the second embodiment is that the variation width when updating the forward characteristic is changed according to the beam direction of each sub-array.
In the above-described first embodiment, since the transmission signals output from the power amplifiers of the respective antenna elements are simply combined, the combined FB signal is equivalent to a combination of signals radiated in the 0 degree direction from each sub-array. is there. The angle of the radiation direction is based on the direction perpendicular to the array direction of the antenna elements as shown in FIG. At this time, since the beam direction differs for each sub-array, the power in the 0 degree direction differs depending on the beam direction, and the level (power or amplitude) of the signal included in the combined FB signal differs between the sub-arrays.
Therefore, for a signal included in the combined FB signal having a low level, the ratio of the error in the error signal becomes relatively small, and the convergence may deteriorate when the
First, the amplitude ratio between the 0 degree direction and the beam direction will be described. In the sub-array shown in FIG. 5, the antenna element spacing is λ/2 (λ is the wavelength) and the beam direction is θ 0 . The phase φ n of each phase shifter is expressed by the following equation (6).
In the second embodiment, the amplitude range R calculated as described above is used to change the fluctuation range when updating the forward characteristic for each sub-array. Specifically, for example, in the configuration of the
The amplitude
The coefficient updating unit 252 updates the forward characteristic stored in the forward
In this way, by adjusting the step size parameter of the LMS algorithm according to the amplitude ratio R, the fluctuation range when updating the forward characteristic according to the beam direction of the sub-array is appropriately increased or decreased, and the convergence is improved. You can
It is also possible to adjust the gain of the feedback signal instead of adjusting the step size parameter of the LMS algorithm. FIG. 7 is a block diagram showing the configuration of

The gain adjusting units 270a and 270b adjust the gain of the combined signal for each sub-array based on the amplitude ratio R of the above equation (9).
The combining
In this way, by adjusting the gain of the combined signal for each sub-array according to the amplitude ratio R, the level (power or amplitude) of the signal included in the combined FB signal becomes equal between the sub-arrays, and the convergence is improved. You can Further, since the combined signal for each sub-array is further combined to generate the combined FB signal, only one down converter and one A/
As described above, according to the present embodiment, the amplitude ratio in the beam direction and the 0° direction is calculated for each sub-array, and the fluctuation range when updating the forward characteristic is adjusted based on the amplitude ratio. For this reason, even if the beam directions of the sub-arrays are different, the forward characteristic of each sub-array is appropriately updated, and the convergence can be improved.
(Embodiment 3)
The feature of the third embodiment is that a signal output from the power amplifier is provided with an opposite phase of the phase shift by the phase shifter.
Since the configuration of the communication system according to the third embodiment is the same as that of the first embodiment, the description thereof will be omitted.

FIG. 9 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the forward

The pre-distortion signal for each sub-array is D/A converted by the D/
The transmission signal transmitted from each antenna element is fed back to the
When the feedback signal is provided with the opposite phase, the combining unit 320 combines the feedback signals from all the antenna elements regardless of the sub-arrays to generate a combined FB signal (step S202). The combined FB signal is down-converted and A/D converted by the A/
The A/D-converted combined FB signal is output to the forward
When the forward characteristics that reduce the error signal are calculated, these forward characteristics are stored in the
Then, the
As described above, according to the present embodiment, when the distortion compensation processing is collectively performed for each sub-array, after applying the opposite phase of the phase shift to the signal of each antenna element, all the antennas are irrespective of the sub-array. The transmission signals of the elements are combined to generate a combined FB signal, and the combined FB signal is fed back to estimate the forward characteristic of the power amplifier for each sub-array.

The memory effect updating unit 452 updates the memory effect given to the pre-distortion signals by the memory
In the fourth embodiment, not only the instantaneous non-linear distortion of the power amplifier but also the distortion due to the memory effect is estimated, and the inverse characteristic of the memory effect is given to the transmission signal in advance, so that the memory effect of the power amplifier is caused. It also compensates for the distortion. The inverse characteristic of the memory effect is obtained by estimating the memory effect in the forward direction in the forward
By the way, regarding the memory effect of the power amplifier, there are three models as shown in FIG. 13, that is, (a) Wiener model, (b) Hammerstein model, and (c) Wiener-Hammerstein model. The Wiener model is a model in which non-linear distortion occurs after the distortion due to the memory effect, the Hammerstein model is a model in which the distortion due to the memory effect occurs after the non-linear distortion, and the Wiener-Hammerstein model is the Wiener model. And Hammerstein model.
Since the Wiener model is assumed as the model of the power amplifier in the above description, in FIG. 11, the memory effect inverse
Therefore, when assuming the Hammerstein model as the model of the power amplifier, the positional relationship between the
As described above, according to the present embodiment, not only the instantaneous nonlinear distortion that occurs in the power amplifier but also the distortion that occurs due to the memory effect is estimated, and the inverse characteristic of the memory effect is added to the transmission signal in advance. To do. Therefore, even when a power amplifier that is affected by the memory effect is used, it is possible to accurately perform distortion compensation on the transmission signal.
(Embodiment 5)
The feature of the fifth embodiment is that an increase in the circuit scale of the feedback system is suppressed in the RRH that implements MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output).
Since the configuration of the communication system according to the fifth embodiment is similar to that of the first embodiment, the description thereof will be omitted. However, in the fifth embodiment, the
FIG. 14 is a block diagram showing the configuration of
The forward
The configuration of such a forward
The combining
In the fifth embodiment, beamforming is not performed, but MIMO is performed, so that the
At this time, in the feedback path from the power amplifier for each antenna element to A/
As described above, according to the present embodiment, when MIMO is performed using a plurality of antenna elements, the transmission signals of all antenna elements are combined to generate a combined FB signal, and the combined FB signal is fed back. Then, the forward characteristic of the power amplifier for each antenna element is estimated. Then, the reciprocal of the estimated forward characteristic is calculated, and the calculated reciprocal is used as the distortion compensation coefficient for each antenna element. Therefore, in the feedback system for updating the distortion compensation coefficient, it is sufficient to provide one set of analog circuits for the combined FB signal, so that it is possible to suppress an increase in the circuit scale of the feedback system.
(Embodiment 6)
The feature of the sixth embodiment is that not the LUT type distortion compensation using the distortion compensation coefficient stored in the LUT but the series type distortion compensation using a series is executed.
Since the configuration of the communication system according to the sixth embodiment is similar to that of the first embodiment, the description thereof will be omitted.
FIG. 15 is a block diagram showing the configuration of
The series
The forward
The inverse
FIG. 16 is a block diagram showing the configuration of the forward
The forward
The
In the sixth embodiment, not the LUT type distortion compensation by the distortion compensation coefficient read from the LUT but the series type distortion compensation by the operation using the series is executed. In series-type distortion compensation, distortion compensation is executed by calculation using series, so the forward
As described above, according to the present embodiment, when distortion compensation processing using a series is performed collectively for each sub-array, the transmission signals of all antenna elements are combined regardless of the sub-array to generate a combined FB signal. The generated FB signal is generated and fed back to estimate the series corresponding to the distortion characteristic of the power amplifier for each sub-array. Then, the inverse function of the estimated series is calculated, and the calculated inverse function is used as the series for distortion compensation for each sub-array. Therefore, in the feedback system for updating the series, it is sufficient to provide one set of analog circuits for the combined FB signal, so that it is possible to suppress an increase in the circuit scale of the feedback system.
In each of the above embodiments, the calculation of the forward characteristic and the coefficient of the series is performed independently for each sub-array or each antenna element. This is because the cross-correlation of the transmission signals for each sub-array or each antenna element is low, and it can be considered that a plurality of transmission signals are orthogonal to each other. However, generally, in the header portion of the transmission signal, cross-correlation may become high between sub-arrays or between antenna elements. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 17, for example, in the header portions of the transmission signals x1 and x2, updating of the coefficients of the forward characteristics or series is stopped, and in the data portions of the transmission signals x1 and x2, the coefficients of the forward characteristics or series are changed. The update may be executed. By doing this, the coefficient of the forward characteristic or the series is updated using the data portion having a lower cross-correlation, so that the convergence is improved.
In addition, the above-described respective embodiments can be implemented in combination as appropriate. That is, for example, when the second embodiment and the fourth embodiment are combined to compensate for the distortion caused by the memory effect, the variation range of the update may be changed based on the amplitude ratio. When combining the embodiments, it is possible to combine three or more embodiments. For example, combining Embodiments 4 to 6, when MIMO is performed, series distortion compensation may be executed for each antenna element and distortion caused by the memory effect may be compensated. Even in such a case, in the feedback system for updating the coefficient of the series, since the synthetic FB signal obtained by synthesizing the feedback signals from the plurality of antenna elements is fed back, the analog circuit is minimized and the circuit scale is increased. Can be suppressed.
