Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fixing device capable of fixing an image on an envelope and an image forming apparatus including such a fixing device.
As disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2017-116789 (Patent Document 1), a technique for preventing the occurrence of envelope wrinkles in a fixing device including a fixing belt, a pressure pad, and a pressure roller is known. . In the fixing device disclosed in this publication, a main pressure portion is provided in a portion of the pressure pad that faces the inner surface of the fixing belt (near the center of the nip region). Protrusions are provided on the upstream side and the downstream side. These protrusions provided on the pressure pad protrude toward the fixing belt.
The fixing device disclosed in this publication has a normal pressure mode for plain paper and a light pressure mode for envelopes. In the normal pressure mode, the upstream protrusion, the downstream protrusion, and the main pressure portion are in contact with the inner surface of the fixing belt. In the light pressure mode, the upstream protrusion and the downstream protrusion contact the inner surface of the fixing belt, and the main pressure portion does not contact the inner surface of the fixing belt.

The present invention includes a fixing device having a configuration capable of further suppressing the generation of envelope flaws by devising the distribution of pressure acting on the envelope in the nip region, and such a fixing device.

FIG. 3 is a diagram schematically illustrating a state in which the
As described above, the nip region N is formed between the fixing

For example, in the nip region N, zones M1, M2, M3, and M4 as shown in FIG. 3 are formed from the nip inlet side to the nip outlet side. The curvature center O1 is located on the
In the zones M1, M2, M3, and M4 (particularly, the zones M2 and M3) in the nip region N, the path of the

The second curved shape portion is included in the latter half portion of the nip region N. In the second curved shape portion, the nip region N has a concave shape toward the fixing belt 10 (pressure pad 15). In other words, the shape of the
As indicated by points D4 and D5 in FIG. 5B, the conveyance path difference turns from the plus side to the minus side as the nip region N changes from the first curved shape portion to the second curved shape portion. Between points D5 and D6 shown in FIG. 5B, there is a minus-side conveyance path difference between the
In the nip region N, a straight shape is formed at a position downstream of the second curved shape portion so as to be continuous with the second curved shape portion. Between the points D7 and D8 shown in FIG. 5B, there is almost no difference in the conveyance path between the
Referring to FIG. 5C, the nip region N configured as described above includes a low distortion region where the path difference integral value is less than or equal to half of the maximum path difference integral value, and the path difference integral value is the maximum path difference. And a high strain region that is larger than half of the integral value. As described above, here, the path difference integral value at the point T4 in FIG. 5C constitutes the “maximum path difference integral value” between the nip inlet and the nip outlet for the nip region N.
A region between the points T1 and T3 constitutes a low distortion region, and a region between the points T5 and T7 constitutes another low distortion region. A region between the points T3 and T5 forms a high strain region. In the low distortion region, the integral value (accumulation amount) of the conveyance path difference between the
(Maximum pressure value)
Referring to FIG. 5D, in the nip region N as described above, the maximum value among the pressures applied to the
Specifically, in the low strain region on the first half side, the pressure indicated by the points P1, P2, P3, and the like is applied to the
In the low strain region on the second half side, the pressure indicated by the point P6 is the maximum pressure value, and the pressure having this magnitude is applied to the
Adjustment of the magnitude of the pressure as described above is such that the shape of the
Further, the adjustment of the pressure level as described above is performed in the same manner as described above by displacing the relative position of the
(Function and effect)
As described above, a value obtained by integrating the transport path difference from the nip entrance with respect to the transport path difference of each portion in the nip region N is defined as a path difference integrated value. When the
The pressure that acts on the
As described above, when the envelope 20 (the
Pressure to deform the envelope = transport path difference in each zone x pressure in each zone (pressure distribution)
That is, the pressure for deforming the
As a result, it is possible to sufficiently suppress the pressure for deforming the
The nip region N may be configured such that when a predetermined portion of the
The first half portion in the nip region N may include a first curved portion that is convex toward the
Further, the radius of curvature of the first curved shape portion may be larger than the radius of curvature of the second curved shape portion. Thereby, while setting the pressure at the nip inlet side to a low value, the pressure is gradually increased toward the downstream side, and the pressure can be increased rapidly at the nip outlet side. As a result, it is possible to secure the fixing property and the transportability and transport the
Moreover, the conveyance path length comprised by the 1st curved shape part is good to be longer than the conveyance path length comprised by the 2nd curved shape part. This also allows the pressure to be gradually increased toward the downstream side while setting the pressure on the nip inlet side to a low value, and the pressure can be increased rapidly on the nip outlet side. As a result, it is possible to secure the fixing property and the transportability and transport the
As described above, the means for adjusting the pressure in the nip includes a means for adjusting the pressure in the nip according to the pad shape. The magnitude of the pressure is adjusted by displacing the relative position of the
As shown in FIG. 2, the nip region N extends from the lower side to the upper side in the direction of gravity, and the fixing
As shown in FIG. 5D, the maximum pressure value in the nip area N is 1.3 of the pressure acting on the
In the configuration of the embodiment shown in FIG. 6, the nip region N is configured such that a pressure of 70% or more of the maximum pressure value is not applied to the
In the configuration of the comparative example shown in FIG. 7, the nip region N is configured such that a pressure of 70% or more of the maximum pressure value is applied to the
As a result of comparing the embodiment shown in FIG. 6 with the comparative example shown in FIG. 7, in the case of the embodiment shown in FIG. It can be seen that it is possible to transport
FIG. 8 is a graph showing the relationship between impulses for deforming the envelope and wrinkles (conveyance path difference × pressure distribution). In this graph, the difference between the conveyance paths of each zone inside the nip region N is plotted by multiplying the pressure distribution acting on the envelope in each zone inside the nip region N and integrated. It can be seen that the smaller the difference in the conveyance path of the envelope, the smaller the impulse for deforming the envelope, and the smaller the impulse for deforming the envelope, the less likely that wrinkles are generated.
It can be seen that if the impulse for deforming the envelope exceeds a certain threshold, wrinkles are likely to occur in the envelope. That is, from this graph, it can be said that there is a correlation between the values shown below and the state in which the envelope is wrinkled.
Difference in transport speed between the front and back surfaces of each part inside the nip region N × pressure of each part inside the nip region N That is, the pressure distribution in the transport direction inside the nip region N with respect to the transport path difference changing inside the nip region N By adjusting the, it is possible to prevent wrinkles from being generated in the envelope when the envelope is passed through the nip region N. As described above, the pressure that acts on the
Difference in transport amount in each zone (inlet, middle, outlet, etc.) x pressure (pressure distribution)
Further, the force that deforms the envelope in the nip region N is accumulated, leading to deformation of the envelope. For the total load required to transport the envelope, the envelope difference between the front and back of the envelope inside the nip region N and the integrated value of the pressure, that is, the value of ∫ (conveyance path difference x pressure) dy (the y direction is the transport) By setting the pressure distribution in the Y-axis (rotation) direction inside the nip region N so that (direction) becomes smaller than the threshold value for generating envelope flaws, the envelope is appropriately conveyed while preventing envelope flaws. Is possible.
In addition to the above, the nip region N is larger when the
