Abstract
Description
図1は、本実施形態に係る表示装置DSPの構成を示すブロック図である。図1に示すように、表示装置DSPは、制御部10と、表示部30と、表示部30を照明する光を発生する照明装置ILと、を備えている。制御部10は、信号処理部20と、表示部30の駆動を制御する表示駆動部40と、照明装置ILの駆動を制御する照明装置制御部60と、を備えている。
照明装置ILは、表示部30の背面側に位置している。照明装置ILは、複数の光源LSと、複数の光源LSと表示部30との間に位置した仕切り部材PTと、を備えている。照明装置ILと表示部30の間には、色分離素子A1が配置される。色分離素子A1は、特定の波長の光を所定の方向に分離する。複数の光源LSは、X方向及びY方向にマトリクス状に配置されている。これらの光源LSは、回路基板LFPCにそれぞれ実装されている。
導光部LGは、光源LSと対向する第1開口部OP1と、色分離素子A1と対向する第2開口部OP2と、光源LSを囲む側面P10と、を備えている。図示した例では、導光部LGは、1個の光源LSを囲む4つの側面P10を備えている。また、第1開口部OP1及び第2開口部OP2は、いずれも四角形であり、第1開口部OP1の面積は、第2開口部OP2の面積よりも小さい。なお、一例では、第1開口部OP1の面積は光源LSの面積と同等以上であり、また、第1開口部OP1の形状は光源LSの外形に応じて適宜決定され、光源LSは第1開口部OP1に嵌め込まれている。このような導光部LGは、光源LSから色分離素子A1に向かって広がる角錐台状に形成されている。
WA1=1.7〜2.7μm
WA2=1.5〜2.5μm
WA3=2.0〜3.0μm
程度が望ましい。
WA1=1.2〜1.7μm
WA2=1.0〜1.5μm
WA3=1.3〜1.8μm
程度が望ましい。
用途は、透過型のディスプレイデバイスとして有用である。特に、ある程度の指向性が要求され、広すぎる視野角は要求されないHUD(ヘッド・アップ・ディスプレイ)等が最適である。視野角が要求されるモバイル端末やTVなどにおいても、視認側に拡散板を配置して任意の視野角に制御することで使用することができる。
その他、本発明は上記各実施形態そのままに限定されるものではなく、実施段階ではその要旨を逸脱しない範囲で構成要素を変形して具体化できる。また、上記各実施形態に開示されている複数の構成要素の適宜な組み合わせにより、種々の発明を形成できる。例えば、実施形態に示される全構成要素から幾つかの構成要素を削除してもよい。さらに、異なる実施形態にわたる構成要素を適宜組み合わせてもよい。
Claims (18)
- 第1色が対応づけられた第1画素、第2色が対応づけられた第2画素、第3色が対応づけられた第3画素が周期的に配列される画素配列層と、
前記画素配列層に対向して、前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素の配列に合わせて周期的に配列され、それぞれ入射される光を前記第1色、前記第2色、前記第3色に対応する波長の光に分離して前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素に照射する第1素子、第2素子、第3素子を備える色分離素子と、
前記色分離素子の前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子に光を照射する照明装置と
を具備する表示装置。 - 前記第1素子は、前記第1色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第1画素に集光するように回折し、前記第3色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の左側に位置する前記第3画素に集光するように回折し、前記第2色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の右側に位置する前記第2画素に集光するように回折する特性を有し、
前記第2素子は、前記第2色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第2画素に集光するように回折し、前記第1色の波長の分離光を前記第2画素の左側に位置する前記第1画素に集光するように回折し、前記第3色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の右側に位置する前記第3画素に集光するように回折する特性を有し、
前記第3素子は、前記第3色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第3画素に集光するように回折し、前記第2色の波長の分離光を前記第3画素の左側に位置する前記第2画素に集光するように回折し、前記第1色の波長の分離光を前記第3画素の右側に位置する前記第1画素に集光するように回折する特性を有する請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 第1色が対応づけられた第1画素、第2色が対応づけられた第2画素、第3色が対応づけられた第3画素が周期的に配列される画素配列層と、
第1構造を有する第1素子、第2構造を有する第2素子、第3構造を有する第3素子を有し、前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子は、前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素の配列に合わせて周期的に配列され、それぞれ入射される光を前記第1色、前記第2色、前記第3色に対応する波長の光に分離して前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素に照射する色分離素子と、
前記色分離素子の前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子に光を照射する照射装置と
を具備する表示装置。 - 前記色分離素子の第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子は、透明な誘電体材料を凹凸形状に成形した構造を有する請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 前記画素配列層は、第1方向について異なる色が対応付けられた画素が配列され、前記第1方向に対して垂直な第2方向について同一の色が対応付けられた画素が配列され、
前記色分離素子は、前記第1方向について前記凹凸形状に成形され、前記第2方向について前記凹凸形状の前記第1方向及び前記第2方向に対して垂直な第3方向の厚さが略同一に成形された構造を有する請求項4記載の表示装置。 - 前記色分離素子は、前記凹凸形状の溝幅が、前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素の画素周期と前記画素配列層との距離に応じて増減される構造を有する請求項4記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子の前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子は、少なくとも第1色に対応する第1波長λ1の光をそれぞれ異なる方向に回折させる請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、前記第1素子が前記第1色に対応する第1波長λ1の分離光を中央に向けて回折し、前記第2素子が前記第2色に対応する第2波長λ2の分離光を中央に向けて回折し、前記第3素子が前記第3色に対応する第3波長λ3の分離光を中央に向けて回折する構造を有する請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1色は第1波長λ1の光に対応し、前記第2色は第2波長λ2の光に対応し、前記第3色は第3波長λ3の光に対応し、前記第1波長λ1、前記第2波長λ2、前記第3波長λ3は、λ1>λ2>λ3の関係を示す請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、凹凸形状を有し、前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子それぞれの前記凹凸形状の平均溝幅W1,W2,W3がW2≦W1≦W3の関係を満たす構造を有する請求項9記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、凹凸形状を有し、前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子それぞれの前記凹凸形状の溝本数N1,N2,N3がN2≦N1≦N3の関係を満たす構造を有する請求項9記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、凹凸形状を有し、前記第1素子、前記第2素子、前記第3素子それぞれの前記凹凸形状の前記第3方向の最大値−最小値の厚さΔh1,Δh2,Δh3がΔh1≦Δh2,Δh3の関係を満たす構造を有する請求項5記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、前記画素配列層の光入射面側に配置される第1偏光板と前記照射装置との間に配置される請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 前記色分離素子は、前記画素配列層の光入射面側に配置される第1偏光板と第1基板との間に配置される請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 前記画素配列層の前記光の透過面側の上部に拡散板が配置される請求項3記載の表示装置。
- 第1色が対応づけられた第1画素、第2色が対応づけられた第2画素、第3色が対応づけられた第3画素を周期的に配列し、
前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素の配列に合わせて、その配列に対向するように第1素子、第2素子、第3素子を周期的に配列し、第1素子、第2素子、第3素子それぞれによって背面から入射される光を前記第1色、前記第2色、前記第3色に対応する波長の光に分離して互いに異なる方向に照射することで、前記第1画素、前記第2画素、前記第3画素の配列面に画像を表示する表示方法。 - 前記第1素子が、前記第1色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第1画素に集光するように回折し、前記第3色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の左側に位置する前記第3画素に集光するように回折し、前記第2色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の右側に位置する前記第2画素に集光するように回折し、
前記第2素子が、前記第2色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第2画素に集光するように回折し、前記第1色の波長の分離光を前記第2画素の左側に位置する前記第1画素に集光するように回折し、前記第3色の波長の分離光を前記第1画素の右側に位置する前記第3画素に集光するように回折し、
前記第3素子が、前記第3色の波長の分離光を対向位置にある前記第3画素に集光するように回折し、前記第2色の波長の分離光を前記第3画素の左側に位置する前記第2画素に集光するように回折し、前記第1色の波長の分離光を前記第3画素の右側に位置する前記第1画素に集光するように回折することで、前記画像を表示する請求項16記載の表示方法。 - 第1波長の光を第1回折方向に集光させる第1素子と、
第1波長の光を第1回折方向とは異なる第2回折方向に集光させる第2素子と、
第1波長の光を第1回折方向とは異なる第3回折方向に集光させる第3素子と
を有する色分離素子。
