Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an inkjet recording apparatus and a defective nozzle detection method.
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, there is an ink jet recording apparatus that records an image on a recording medium by ejecting ink from a plurality of nozzles provided in the recording head with respect to the recording medium conveyed by the conveying apparatus. In such an ink jet recording apparatus, a predetermined test image recorded by the recording head is read by a reading means such as a line sensor having a plurality of image sensors, and defective nozzles having defective ink ejection are detected based on the obtained image data. There is technology to do. Ink ejection failure of nozzles includes non-ejection of ink, ink ejection amount abnormality, and ink ejection direction abnormality, and a defective nozzle is detected based on a line pattern defect or density unevenness in a test image.
In the ink jet recording apparatus, calibration of the reading unit is performed in order to correct the sensitivity variation of the image sensor of the reading unit and the illuminance unevenness of the light source (for example, Patent Document 1). In the calibration of the reading means, a white plate having a uniform and known reflectance is read by the reading means, and a correction value for matching the obtained imaging data with a value corresponding to the reflectance of the white plate is calculated. In reading the test image by the reading unit, the image data of the test image is multiplied by the correction value, and image data of the test image as a reading result is generated. As described above, the defective nozzle can be appropriately detected by using the result of reading the test image by the calibrated reading unit. In order to enable the calibration of the reading means using such a white plate, the inkjet recording apparatus includes a mechanism for installing the white plate in the reading range of the reading means, and the white plate and the reading means when reading the white plate. A mechanism for adjusting the distance from the light incident surface is provided.
However, the above-described conventional technique has a problem that the structure of the ink jet recording apparatus is complicated by a mechanism for performing calibration using a white plate, resulting in an increase in the size of the apparatus.
An object of the present invention is to provide an inkjet recording apparatus and a defective nozzle detection method capable of appropriately detecting a defective nozzle by calibrating a reading unit with a simpler configuration.

Next, a method for detecting defective nozzles in the inkjet recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment will be described.
In the inkjet recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment, the defective nozzle is detected at a predetermined timing or based on a predetermined input operation on the
Detection of a defective nozzle is performed by recording a predetermined test chart on the recording medium P and analyzing imaging data obtained by imaging the test chart by the
FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating an example of a test chart used for detecting a defective nozzle. A
Each
Since each of the plurality of
When the defective nozzle is identified, the
After the defective nozzle is identified, the print job is stored in the
Thus, the defective nozzle is detected based on the result of reading the
The defective nozzle is detected based on the position of the
C(i)=Ia/I(i)・・・(1)
Therefore, in this embodiment, instead of a dedicated standard member such as a white plate, an unrecorded white recording medium P is used as a reading object having a uniform reflectance, and the reading result by the
That is, in the calibration of the
When the calibration image data is generated, a correction value that matches the pixel value of each pixel in the calibration image data with a predetermined value is calculated. That is, among the calibration image data, the pixel value I (i) of the pixel corresponding to the i-th image sensor (i is a natural number in a range corresponding to the number of image sensors) in the X direction of the
C (i) = Ia / I (i) (1)
Here, the predetermined value Ia can be set to 255 corresponding to the maximum gradation, for example. Alternatively, the predetermined value Ia is saturated (exceeding 255) by multiplying the pixel value I (i) by the correction value C (i) when a reading target having a reflectance higher than that of the recording medium P is read. Therefore, a value smaller than 255 (for example, 240) may be used. The predetermined value Ia may be a value corresponding to the reflectance of the recording medium P, for example, an average value of all the pixel values in the imaging data of the recording medium P.
The correction value C (i) is calculated for each of the imaging element columns corresponding to R, G, and B in the
In this embodiment, the recording medium P is white when the output from the R, G, and B image sensors of the
After the calibration is performed as described above, when the

Prior to the start of the defective nozzle detection process, the

As described above, the inkjet recording apparatus 1 of the present embodiment includes the
Further, the
Further, the
The ink jet recording apparatus 1 includes a
The
Further, the
The
Further, the
In addition, the defective nozzle detection method of the present embodiment is based on the unrecorded area reading step in which the
(Second Embodiment)
Subsequently, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described. This embodiment is different from the first embodiment in that the

The defective nozzle detection method of this embodiment is the same as that of the first embodiment except that the

Prior to the start of the defective nozzle detection process, the
When the defective nozzle detection process is started, the
Further, in the process of step S <b> 104, the
As described above, the ink jet recording apparatus according to this embodiment includes the
Moreover, since the pixel value in the imaging data of the reading
The reading
In addition, the inkjet recording apparatus 1 includes a
Further, the
Further, the
