Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an image reading apparatus and an image reading system, and is suitably applied to, for example, a reading apparatus that reads an image from a document and generates image data.
Conventionally, as a reading device, for example, a so-called flat bed type is widely used. In this flat bed type reading device, for example, a glass plate that transmits light is provided at the top of the main body, and a movable reading unit is provided inside the main body, and a document with a reading surface facing downward is placed on the glass plate. When placed, the document is sequentially imaged while moving the reading unit to generate image data.
In addition, in the reading device, an automatic document feeder that automatically feeds documents sequentially in the upper side of the flatbed main body (hereinafter also referred to as a flatbed), that is, a position facing the glass plate. Some are provided with In such a reading apparatus, the automatic document feeder separates the documents stacked on a predetermined document placement table one by one, along a predetermined document conveyance path, and between the flat plate portion and the glass plate. When the originals pass through the reading position, the images are sequentially read by the reading unit stationary in the flat bed portion.
In such a flatbed type reading apparatus having an automatic document feeding unit, a stationary document reading mode for reading a stationary document placed on a glass plate by a user, that is, a stationary document feeding unit, and an automatic document feeding unit sequentially. The document can be read by appropriately switching between the transported document reading mode for reading the conveyed document.
By the way, in the conveyed document reading mode, if a deviation occurs between the period during which the document passes the reading position and the period during which the image is read by the reading unit, the image data includes an image of a portion other than the document, The accuracy of the reading position is deteriorated such that a part is not included.
Therefore, some reading apparatuses are provided with a document sensor for detecting a document on a document conveyance path in an automatic document feeder (see, for example, Patent Document 1). In this reading apparatus, the document is read by the reading unit based on the detection time point when the document is detected by the document sensor based on the path length along the conveyance path from the position of the document sensor to the reading position and the conveyance speed of the document. By determining the start time for starting the reading and the ending time for ending the reading, it is possible to read the original reading surface without excess and deficiency and generate appropriate image data.
By the way, in the above-described reading apparatus, for example, the automatic document feeder can be rotated so as to be separated from the glass plate with respect to the flat bed by a user's operation. Can be set on a glass plate.
However, in the reading apparatus, since the automatic document feeder is configured to be rotatable with respect to the flat bed portion, the position accuracy of the automatic document feeder is inevitably lowered due to the component accuracy of the rotation mechanism. . That is, in the reading apparatus, when the automatic document feeder is brought into contact with the glass plate, a certain amount of error occurs in the position of the automatic document feeder relative to the flat bed portion. In this case, the reading apparatus varies the distance from the document sensor to the reading position on the document conveyance path in the conveyance document reading mode.
Then, the reading device may be located at a position where the leading portion of the document is deviated from the reading position at the start time determined based on the time point detected by the document sensor, and reads the range deviated from the reading surface of the document. There is a fear. In other words, the reading apparatus has a problem that in the transported document reading mode, the document cannot be appropriately read due to the positional deviation of the automatic document feeding unit with respect to the flat bed unit.
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to propose an image reading apparatus and an image reading system capable of reading an image from a stationary document and a conveyed document with high positional accuracy.
In order to solve such a problem, in the image reading apparatus of the present invention, the flat bed portion having a light transmitting portion that transmits light and the facing state facing the light transmitting portion of the flat bed portion or separated from the light transmitting portion. The image reading system of the present invention is an image reading system having an image reading device and an information processing device, the information processing device having an operation unit that allows a user to specify the type of document whose image is read by the image reading device; A document type transmission unit configured to transmit a document type designated by a user to the image reading device, and the image reading device includes a flat bed unit having a light transmission unit that transmits light, and a light transmission unit of the flat bed unit. An automatic document feeder that transitions to an opposite facing state or a non-facing state separated from the light transmitting portion, and a light transmitting portion of the flat bed portion that is provided in the automatic document feeding portion and is in the facing state, and the automatic document Provided on the flatbed unit and the document conveyance unit that conveys the document to the reading position along a conveyance path including a gap formed between the sheet feeding unit and movable along a predetermined movement direction A carriage, a reading sensor that is provided in the carriage, reads an image from the original sandwiched between the light transmission part of the flat bed part and the automatic document feeding part through the light transmission part, and generates image data. A knowledge unit that knows whether or not it is possible to detect the presence or absence, and if the knowledge unit knows that the document can be detected by a non-contact sensor, contactless When the reading sensor starts reading the document from the start time determined based on the non-contact detection time detected by the sensor, and the knowledge unit knows that the document cannot be detected by the non-contact sensor Includes a control unit that starts reading of a document by a reading sensor from a start time determined based on a contact detection time detected by the contact sensor, and image data transmission that transmits image data obtained by the reading sensor to the information processing apparatus. Part.
In the present invention, since both the reading sensor and the non-contact sensor are provided on the carriage, the distance between the reading sensor and the non-contact sensor can be kept constant regardless of the position accuracy of the automatic document feeder relative to the flat bed portion. . For this reason, the present invention determines the start time by the reading sensor based on the non-contact detection time point when the document is detected by the non-contact sensor, and starts generating image data without deviating from the leading portion of the document being conveyed. be able to.
According to the present invention, an image reading apparatus and an image reading system capable of reading an image with high positional accuracy from a stationary document and a conveyed document can be realized.
Hereinafter, modes for carrying out the invention (hereinafter referred to as embodiments) will be described with reference to the drawings.
[1. Configuration of image reading system]
As shown in FIG. 1, the
The computer 3 is similar to a general computer device, such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a storage unit such as a hard disk drive (not shown), a display unit 3D composed of a liquid crystal panel or the like, and an
The image forming apparatus 2 is a so-called composite apparatus (also called MFP: Multi Function Printer), which has an image reading function and a communication function for reading an image in addition to a printer function for forming (that is, printing) an image on a sheet as a medium. Have. For this reason, the image forming apparatus 2 can operate as a printer, a copier (copier), a facsimile apparatus, an image reading apparatus (also referred to as an image scanner), or the like by combining these.
In the following, in the image forming apparatus 2, information is presented to the user, and the side on which the
[1-1. Hardware configuration of image forming apparatus]
As shown in a schematic front view in FIG. 2, the image forming apparatus 2 includes a flat bed (FB)
The
As shown in a schematic plan view in FIG. 3, the
Further, a carriage drive unit 15 is provided in the
Incidentally, a
A reading
A
For example, when the power is turned on and when the document M has been read, the
Subsequently, the
On the other hand, the automatic document feeder 8 (FIG. 2) is configured around the
A
The document conveyance unit 36 includes a
The
The document transport unit 36 is provided with a
Further, a
With this configuration, when the document M transported along the transport path W reaches the scan sensor position PD, the
That is, the
By the way, the document transport unit 36 is located on the downstream side of the scan sensor position PD with a gap between the glass plate 11 of the
A light emitting unit 42 and a

The document transport unit 36 lifts the document M, which is transported along the transport path W and proceeds to the right in the gap G, upward by the inclined surface of the
A document discharge table 48 is provided on the lower right side of the
As described above, the

[1-2. Functional configuration of image forming apparatus]
Next, the functional configuration of the image forming apparatus 2 will be described with reference to FIG. Incidentally, FIG. 4 mainly shows a part related to the image reading function among various functional blocks of the image forming apparatus 2 and omits a part related to other functions.

[2. Computer configuration]
Next, the configuration of the computer 3 (FIG. 1) will be described. The computer 3 includes an arithmetic device such as a CPU (not shown) and a storage device such as a RAM (Random Access Memory) and a hard disk drive, and various programs are stored in the storage device. The computer 3 performs an image reading process using the image reading function of the image forming apparatus 2 by reading and executing an image reading program from a storage device, for example.
At this time, the computer 3 reads out and executes the image reading program, thereby forming various functional blocks as shown in FIG. In FIG. 4, the computer 3 performs overall control by an
When the image forming apparatus 2 reads a document, the reading condition
Among the options prepared as the document type, “plain paper” and “glossy paper” have relatively low light transmission due to the properties of paper, and therefore the transmission sensor 25 (FIG. 2) in the image forming apparatus 2. The detection light L1 can be blocked. On the other hand, the “OHP sheet” is a highly transparent film or the like and has a relatively high light transmission, and therefore allows the detection light L1 to pass therethrough almost without being blocked.

As shown in FIG. 6, the
On the right side of the reading setting screen D1, a start button B1 displayed as “Start” and a cancel button B2 displayed as “Cancel” are displayed. When the start button B1 is operated by the user, the document reading process is started according to the contents selected in the selection columns C1, C2, and C3. When the cancel button B2 is operated by the user, the document reading process by the image forming apparatus 2 is stopped (cancelled).

As described above, the computer 3 executes the image reading program to allow the user to select the value of each reading setting item via the reading setting screen D1 (FIG. 6), and reading setting information that is the value selected here. Based on (FIG. 5B), the image forming apparatus 2 is made to read the original.

[3-1. Image reading control processing procedure and image reading processing procedure]
First, an image reading control process executed in the computer 3 and an image reading process executed in the image forming apparatus 2 in response thereto will be described.
When the execution of the image reading process is instructed by the user, the computer 3 reads the image reading control program from the storage unit and executes it. As a result, the computer 3 configures each functional block shown in FIG. 4 by software, starts the image reading control processing procedure RT1 shown in FIG. 7, and proceeds to the first step SP1.
In step SP1, the computer 3 displays a reading setting screen D1 (FIG. 6) on the display unit by the screen display unit 63 (FIG. 4), thereby displaying predetermined initial values set in advance for each reading setting item. As a state in which the user's operation can be accepted, the process proceeds to the next step SP2. At this time, the initial value of each reading setting item is stored in the reading setting information storage unit 65.
In step SP2, the computer 3 determines whether the reading condition has been changed, that is, whether an option different from the initial value has been selected for each reading setting item. If a positive result is obtained here, the computer 3 proceeds to the next step SP3, updates the read setting information by storing the changed option in the read setting information storage unit 65, and proceeds to the next step SP4.
On the other hand, if a negative result is obtained in step SP2, this indicates that the user does not intend to change each option of the initial value. At this time, the computer 3 proceeds to the next step SP4.
In step SP4, the computer 3 determines whether or not an instruction to start the document reading process has been received from the user, that is, whether or not the start button B1 on the reading setting screen D1 (FIG. 6) has been operated. If a negative result is obtained here, the computer 3 returns to step SP2 again.
On the other hand, if an affirmative result is obtained in step SP4, this indicates that the user has an intention to read the document by the image forming apparatus 2 in accordance with the options of each reading setting item at this time. At this time, the computer 3 proceeds to the next step SP5, and instructs the image forming apparatus 2 to start the image reading process. Specifically, the computer 3 sends an instruction to start the image reading process by the scanner driver 64 (FIG. 4) and the reading setting information read from the reading setting information storage unit 65 via the

In response to this, when the main controller 51 (FIG. 4) of the image forming apparatus 2 receives an instruction to start image reading processing and reading setting information from the computer 3 by the data transmitting / receiving
In step SP11, the
If a negative result is obtained here, this indicates that the user desires to read the document M placed on the glass plate 11 of the
On the other hand, if a positive result is obtained in step SP11, this indicates that the user desires to read the document M placed on the document placement table 31 using the
In step SP14, the
In response to this, the computer 3 proceeds to step SP6 in the image reading control processing procedure RT1 (FIG. 7), receives the image data transmitted from the image forming apparatus 2, and proceeds to the next step SP7. In step SP7, the computer 3 displays an image based on the received image data on the display unit 3D (FIG. 1), and then proceeds to the next step SP8 to end the image reading control processing procedure RT1.

Next, the conveyed document reading process in the conveyed document reading mode performed by the
In step SP21, the
In step SP22, the
In step SP23, the
In step SP24, the
In step SP25, the
On the other hand, if a negative result is obtained in step SP25, this means that all the documents M set on the document setting table 31 have been fed, that is, image data has been generated from all the documents M. Represents. At this time, the
In step SP26, the
[3-3. Document reading process]
Next, the document reading process in the conveyed document reading mode performed by the
In step SP31, the
If a positive result is obtained here, this means that the presence or absence of the document M cannot be detected by the transmission sensor 25 (FIGS. 2 and 10) as described above, and is a mechanical sensor regardless of the light transmission degree. This indicates that the detection result of the
In step SP32, the
On the other hand, if a positive result is obtained in step SP32, this indicates that the head of the document M has reached the scan sensor position PD, and at this time, the
In step SP33, the
If a negative result is obtained in this step SP33, it is estimated that the beginning of the document M has not yet reached the transported document reading position PA, that is, the reading of the image by the reading
On the other hand, if an affirmative result is obtained in step SP33, it is presumed that the top of the document M has reached the transported document reading position PA. Therefore, reading of an image by the reading
As described above, when the document type of the document M is “OHP sheet” and the light transmittance is high, the
On the other hand, if a negative result is obtained in step SP31, this means that the original type of the original M is “plain paper” or “glossy paper” and the light transmission degree is low, so that the transmission sensor 25 (FIGS. 2 and 10). Indicates that the presence or absence of the document M can be detected. At this time, the
In step SP34, the
If a negative result is obtained here, this means that the amount of detection light L1 received by the
On the other hand, if an affirmative result is obtained in step SP35, this indicates that the amount of detection light L1 received by the
In step SP36, the
In step SP37, the
If a negative result is obtained in this step SP37, it is estimated that the leading edge of the document M has not yet reached the transported document reading position PA, that is, it has not yet reached the start time, and is read by the reading
On the other hand, if an affirmative result is obtained in step SP37, it is estimated that the leading edge of the document M has reached the transported document reading position PA, so that reading of the image by the reading
As described above, when the document type of the document M is “plain paper” or “glossy paper” and the light transmission is low, the
In step SP38, the
In step SP40, the
On the other hand, if a positive result is obtained in step SP40, this indicates that the end of the document M has reached the scan sensor position PD, and at this time, the
If a negative result is obtained here, it is estimated that the end of the original M has not yet reached the transported original reading position PA, that is, the reading of the image by the reading
On the other hand, if a positive result is obtained in step SP41, it is estimated that the end of the document M has reached the transported document reading position PA, that is, this time is the end point at which the reading of the document M is to be terminated. It represents something. At this time, the
As described above, the
[3-4. Reading sensor movement process]
Next, the reading sensor moving process performed by the
Incidentally, the
In step SP51, the
In step SP53, the
In step SP54, the
In step SP55, the
If an affirmative result is obtained, this indicates that the original M cannot be detected by the
In other words, in this case, since the original M is not detected by the
Therefore, the
If a negative result is obtained in step SP57, the
On the other hand, if a negative result is obtained in step SP56, this means that the transparency of the document M is relatively low, that is, the document type is “plain paper” or “glossy paper”. This means that it can be detected. This also indicates that the starting time for starting reading of the original M should be determined with reference to the time when the original M is detected by the
That is, in this case, in steps SP34 to SP37 of the document reading processing procedure RT4 (FIG. 11) to be executed later, when the document M is transported along the transport path W by a predetermined distance LE from the transmission position PE, It is estimated that the head has reached the transported document reading position PA. Therefore, when the position of the
Accordingly, the
If a negative result is obtained in this step SP59, the
In step SP61, the
If a negative result is obtained in step SP62, the
At this time, the
In step SP65, the
Next, the
In step SP66, the
As described above, when the
[4. Effect]
In the above configuration, in the
In the image forming apparatus 2, as shown in FIG. 10, the boundary portion of the
By the way, as described above, the image forming apparatus 2 has an
In such a case, in the image forming apparatus 2, the relative position of the
Therefore, the image forming apparatus 2 attaches the
In addition, the image forming apparatus 2 uses the detection result of the original M by the
For this reason, the image forming apparatus 2 starts from a point in time when the leading edge of the document M is detected by the
The image forming apparatus 2 is sandwiched between the gap G, that is, between the glass plate 11 of the
As a result, the image forming apparatus 2 changes the degree of bending according to the thickness, rigidity, etc. of the document M that may occur when the conveyance path W is curved, and the leading edge of the document M is detected by the
The image forming apparatus 2 determines the start point of the reading
Therefore, the image forming apparatus 2 receives the
From another point of view, the image forming apparatus 2 does not necessarily have a high positional accuracy of the
On the other hand, when the transparency of the document M is high, that is, when the document type is “OHP sheet”, the image forming apparatus 2 detects the document M by the
Further, the image forming apparatus 2 stops the operation of the
Further, the image forming apparatus 2 allows the user to set the document type via the reading setting screen D1 (FIG. 6) in the computer 3, and determines whether or not the degree of light transmission in the document M is high based on this document type. The
According to the above configuration, the image forming apparatus 2 of the

In the above-described embodiment, the light emitting unit 42 and the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the light transmission degree of the original M is low, and when the original M is detected by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the light transmittance of the document M is low, and the maximum light amount position PG calculated based on the light reception signal obtained by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, in the document reading processing procedure RT4 (FIG. 11), when the light transmission degree of the document M is low and the leading edge of the document M is detected by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the optical path of the detection light L1 in the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the user is allowed to set the document type via the reading setting screen D1 (FIG. 6) in the computer 3, and based on this document type, whether or not the degree of light transmission in the document M is high. A case has been described in which whether or not the original M is detected by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, in the document reading processing procedure RT4 (FIG. 11), the leading edge of the document M is detected by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the image forming apparatus 2 and the computer 3 are connected by the
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the present invention is applied to the image forming apparatus 2 configured as a so-called composite apparatus and having an image reading function has been described. However, the present invention is not limited to this. For example, the present invention is applicable to various electronic devices having an image reading function such as an image scanner and the like. The invention may be applied.
Further, the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and other embodiments.
